Madewell Concrete is Metro Charlotte’s top trusted concrete provider for driveway replacements. Replacing driveways is a large undertaking and an investment that will pay-off for years in terms of property value and longevity of use, so it’s important to use a driveway replacement company you can trust. Madewell Concrete specializes in residential concrete replacement. If you are considering a driveway replacement in the Charlotte NC area, it’s important to trust a professional concrete provider that considers all the functional elements required to build a new driveway that lasts for years to come. Your driveway gets put through a lot — not only is it responsible for holding up against several tons of vehicular metal and rubber, but it also has to endure storms, sleet, and, of course, those blisteringly hot southern summer days in Charlotte. Although there’s a lot to expect from a driveway, Madewell Concrete will install one that does it all. One component that separates us from competition is our commercial-grade concrete. The commercial-grade concrete we use is over 4 inches thick and has a rating of 3000 to 4000 psi. As a point of reference, 4000 psi is the same as airport runways, so you can rest assured your driveway can withhold extreme wear and tear over the years. Additionally, our commercial-grade concrete requires virtually no maintenance. We guarantee the longevity of our driveway replacements with a 10-year limited warranty. Aesthetic Component of Your Driveway Your driveway is one of the first elements that visitors experience on your property, it should have an attractive, clean appearance that complements the exterior of your home. For this reason, we offer a variety of colors, textures, and patterns for your driveway. So, if you’re not a fan of plain gray, don’t worry—you have many attractive design options to choose from.
We selected Madewell Concrete in Charlotte, NC, after the rave reviews we saw on Google. Wow. What a major mistake. We had them pour an extension on our driveway and replace a patio in our back yard. The patio concrete was to be colored a natural earthen color and stamped in a random stone pattern. They poured on a 97-degree day and the result was a disaster since the concrete cured at too fast a rate to properly stamp it. When I complained, I was told by the sales guy to reach out to another company and pay more to seal it. I of course continued to complain, and they ultimately poured it again. At first, I was happy with it looking from a distance. Then after further inspection, I noticed they poured it several inches lower than the first pour; thus, it was several inches lower than the surrounding ground surface. Additionally, they broke a couple sprinkler heads and a drainage water outlet with their skid loader AND ran their skid loader into our whole house generator, damaging the generator cover and breaking its concrete base (which they slapped some concrete on hoping I would not notice) and shifting the entire generator several inches from its original location! The **** of it all is that they said NOTHING to me about it and simply left the job site once when they were done pouring the concrete. I reached out to the sales guy who quoted my project and found out he is no longer with the company, and I reached out to the project manager requesting he elevate it to his senior management. Apparently at this point I am being ignored despite multiple requests. I have had to pay dearly (thousands of dollars) to fix all they damaged and had to put pavers on top of the concrete to elevate it to ground level. I will add to all of this that they do not leave the job site without completely tearing up your grass and yard with their skid loader and they will not backfill the gaps they created between the concrete pour and adjacent grass. You will have at least an 18-inch-wide gap that is at least 4 inches deep that you as the homeowner will have to back fill with dirt to get everything level. I would give these folks ZERO stars if I could. They are a total disaster, and I might add unethical since they damaged several items on my property and said NOTHING to me about it and in fact tried to hide the damage!

After collecting four quotes from various contractors to replace my 10'x10' pad in my backyard with a 20'x15' stamped and stained patio, I went with Madewell, even though they were the highest bid. I chose them as they had a great quantity of positive reviews and were the most professional onsite during the quoting process. They came out on Monday, 8/9/21, to pour my pad and it was completed around 3pm. A few days later, I went out to get a closer look at the job. I found countless areas along the edges of stamped bricks where spalling was already occurring. As I walked, even more portions of the stamped areas were crumbling away. There are additional hairline cracks on the edges that will start spalling after our first freeze. I took numerous pictures and sent to my onsite contact, and he told me that this was a normal part of the stamping process and that it'll look better after sealing it. Knowing that this wasn't true, I started asking around on various concrete design forums online. Their responses have all been centered on that it was a shoddy job, and that it needs to be redone, because it'll continue to spall more as it continues to cure. After pushing back with my contact, I was told that my only two options were to seal it (putting lipstick on a pig), or to have it reviewed under the warranty process. I was told that the warranty process is only valid once I'm paid in full, which I am not. I refuse to pay in full (and not know how the warranty claim will go) for an extremely sub standard product. During the numerous back and forth conversations, I was never offered an opportunity for someone on the mgmt team to come take a look and inspect my patio to confirm/deny my complaints. They are hoping to take advantage of my ignorance on the subject and hope I'll go away.

The company promises to turn the project around in two days, quoted like $26500 added a change order of $1500 for "additional cement and dirt" where they get you to sign and there is a waiver of any stress cracks in the change order! BEWARE we paid $28500 for a new driveway with stress cracks they are not going to fix saying this is unfortunate and normal...they say they warranty and that is false the warranty process doesnt work (software) so please be advised to stay away from this company!

We hired Madewell Concrete in February/2021 to replace our existing concrete garage floor, driveway & front step pad, with the concrete tinted Smoke. A 3-inch compacted gravel base was to be placed under all concrete. In addition, the new front pad was to be stamped, accent-colored & sealed. Work started in March. We paid a total of $14,729 for the job. Brian P was onsite manager, Austin M as sales manager, and Miguel M & his crew provided the labor Based on our agreement, and in addition to information & pictures used as sales tools and readily available at the Madewell Concrete website, Madewell has failed to provide a quality product as promised. Further, Madewell has resorted to unprofessional behavior in an attempt to evade fulfilling their obligation to me. As I continued in my attempts to resolve issues with this company, both the Project Manager & the Sales Manager stopped communicating with me, and Madewell has now completely abandoned the unfinished project. I even submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, of which Madewell Concrete is a member. Madewell failed to respond until the BBB contacted them a second time. Issues Madewell Concrete has failed to resolve to my satisfaction: GARAGE FLOOR: There was a one-inch gap on the right side at the base of the garage door where the door no longer rests on the new concrete as it had with the old concrete. The insets in the concrete (for the door bottoms to rest in) were sloppily finished. I actually had to chip concrete away from the bottom of the garage door tracks in order for the garage door to even go down. Workers forced concrete up and behind the track bottoms causing them to flex inward. DRIVEWAY: The gravel was nowhere near 3 inches at any point. There was barely an inch at the top towards the garage & little to NO gravel on the bottom half of the driveway. I mentioned small amount of gravel to Brian after the gravel delivery truck arrived and he assured me it would be plenty to spread a couple inch layer under the entire driveway. He was wrong. The driveway was poured in two different batches. There is a physical seam where the 1st & 2nd batches met and the concrete was not smoothed/brushed properly. There is also a distinct color difference between the batches. The concrete also has thousands of small white spots covering almost the entire surface. There is a huge color difference between the garage floor & the driveway. Brian P even said he was "concerned about the color difference". Irrigation piping: after the old driveway was removed, Miguel pointed out irrigation pipes running underneath. Miguel used the Bobcat to run concrete mix up to the top of the driveway and pad, rather than the heavy truck backing into the driveway. Even then, the piping was damaged. FRONT STEPS PAD: Messy with ugly tooled line joints diverging at an angle to the horizontal & vertical lines created by the stamped pattern pads. The stamped projects at Madewell's website are beautiful. Ours is not. In my initial email to Austin, the Sales Manager (which included pictures), he replied "I do agree with you, the joints do not look the best." But later informed me they would not do the work properly unless I paid an additional $1600. OVERALL: There are many rough edges & markings in the concrete that were not smoothed properly. Concrete was "slopped" up on the garage walls and will have to be ground down to avoid trapping water behind the walls. What do I expect from Madewell? I'd like the driveway gravel to be the full 3 inches I was promised & I paid for. The driveway & garage floor should be moderately the same color, rather than the current huge difference. I want my walkway to be equal to the quality of the Madewell project pictures at their website...at no additional cost to me. Any concrete up against the walls/steps should be removed.

Madewell replaced our concrete driveway and sidewalk last year. There was a low spot near the front steps that retained water after a rain. I contacted them and they replaced that section (under the warranty!) to give it a drainage slope. It rained over the weekend. It was beautiful to see the water drain away. Stephen and his crew were very professional, courteous and efficient.

We enjoyed talking to Michael, the salesman, who measured everything and gave us a clear idea of what the process would entail. The quote he submitted via e-mail was detailed and included a rendering of the work. We then spoke with Jonathan, the crew chief. He was friendly and comprehensive and answered all our questions, so we knew how the process would go and what to expect when it was over. The job took one day, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The crew (four men, I believe) worked steadily, quietly and meticulously until dusk to finish. They first had to dig up the bricks of the old walkway and patio -- we asked them to set those aside rather than disposing of them, which they did -- and dig up and haul off the broken concrete of the damaged parking pad. They then spread the new concrete carefully and cleaned up thoroughly. Jonathan returned on the second day to seal the stamped border, walk the project with us and answer a few last questions. We would definitely hire them again for a similar project.
Description of Work: We needed a parking pad replaced -- essentially the top half of our driveway -- plus a concrete walkway built from our driveway along the back of our screened porch to a patio at the other end of the back yard. We paid extra to get a stamped brick border simulating brick around the edges of the walkway and patio. We also needed a small section of the front sidewalk connecting our front porch and the driveway to be replaced.

Madewell performed a stamped concrete patio job a couple weeks ago. The quality of work done was good, however, it’s completely overshadowed by the poor experience, issues, & professionalism. With that said, I primarily dealt with Michael & Jonathan - who were friendly individuals & were relatively easy to get in contact with. First - I noticed a few workers drinking on the job & on our property. I enjoy beer as much as the next person, but it’s not professional to allow your workers to drink while they are performing such a detailed & large job - or any job for that matter. There were around 7 beer bottles the workers tossed in our trash cans & I personally picked up two from our back yard. This was brought up to Jonathan - to which he noted he allows them to when the job is near complete. Again, not acceptable when you’re on a job - especially when the customer isn’t satisfied. The cleanup was tumultuous. They made an absolute mess on our home siding, the neighborhood road, damaged some of the neighbors yard, cracked our stone siding for landscaping, left our water hose on & the hose nozzle was displaced in the middle of our yard. There was also boot markings left in various areas of the patio patterns. Because of the nature of the job location, Our fence had to be removed in order for the job to be completed. They agreed the would reinstall the fence to its fully working condition - this didn’t happen. The fence gate doesn’t open & latch properly. Madewell has yet to return & address the issue - even after having contacted Michael & Madewell directly. This will likely cost me more money having the issue fixed. Our yard was completely ruined. It rained heavily the day before - which was noted by Jonathan - and they elected to still perform the job fully knowing it was going to be a war zone in our yard. They lackadaisically repaired the yard by throwing hay over it. Again, another hefty expense I’ve incurred by having it leveled, soiled, seeded, etc. Lastly, we were told (and paid for) a firepit with a retaining wall. We were given a fire pit area. Pictures were shown to both Michael & Jonathan about what we wanted & were assured they would deliver. They didn’t. In total, this job ended up costing us a few thousand more because of the mess & issues made by Madewell Concrete. I’ve emailed customer support & Michael regarding my issues and have had zero resolution. Take your business to the other concrete companies in Charlotte - there are many.
Easy to work with the entire time. Good communication, timely service and pleased with the final job.

This is a sales/broker company that subs work to good people but the Madewell supervision is short on experience. They don’t have their own crews and they rent the equipment.
We were concerned about replacing the curb along the driveway side away from the garage and brick work that bordered the driveway outside the garage. Johnathon recommended using a swale instead of the curb and installed new bricks on the border. His professionalism was outstanding. Overall, an excellent job by MadeWell Concrete. Our driveway is the envy of the neighborhood. Highly recommended.
I m the envy of the neighborhood with my slate stone stamped concrete driveway entrance. Jonathan was right. The finished product was going to knock my socks off ....and it has. Great company to work with and true to their name MadeWell .
Thorough attention to the little things. Clean work. Asked many questions of what we needed and what we wanted. Explained the process and what we should expect. Will hire again for the next project .
