The subcontractor sent a crew to install the floor and they put the wrong thresholds down, the wrong moldings around my fireplace hearth, sawed the lumber inside my house and left baseboards bulging out where they weren't put on correctly and took all day for what I was told would be a 4 hour job. I called the subcontractor and had to be home once again for the guy to come inspect the problems. He agreed it was a bad job and sent another crew to fix it, which meant another day that I had to be here. That crew fixed part of the problem, but not all of it. Once again the subcontractor scheduled another crew to come out. I stayed home, only to be informed that the crew leader quit that morning and wouldn't be coming out. Again a crew was scheduled to come out to fix the problems, but they showed up with only part of the needed material. This required another visit after they ordered more material. They ended up having to tear up my entire hallway floor because it had been installed so badly. Finally, they got the problems fixed - or so I thought. There are nails coming through two of my thresholds now and I just can't bring myself to call them again and take another day to be here for them to fix the problem. I'm going to live with it and chalk it up to a life lesson. Hopefully this review will help someone else avoid the hassles that I endured.
Description of Work: I bought laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators. The material was fine and I'm pleased with the look of my floor. Unfortunately, they told me that they used their own installers, but a subcontractor showed up to do the job instead.

The service went pretty well. They told us they would be gluing the floor down as opposed to laying a vapor barrier. They had to do the flooring that way because of our slab flooring. The crew did not speak English. I tried explaining to them that we had discussed laying the floor a certain way but they did not understand. Eventually a project manager came out to straighten things out. Once they got everything straightened out the crew did a great job. They put the furniture outside which did not seem right to me. I had no problem scheduling their service and they were right on time.

Description of Work: The store associates were so friendly and helpful on my initial visit. They showed me the various flooring options and helped me pick out colors. I purchased over 900 square feet of flooring on the spot. Big mistake! I recommend that you choose a contractor first, set an installation date, then let the contractor purchase the flooring. The contractor will get the best pricing. Also, the associates state over and over, buy more than you need, just bring it back if you don't use it. But when I brought the excess flooring back, they loudly stated that I should have read my paperwork because on a back page in tiny letters, it states you only have 30 days to return unused product. I was really upset because the associate suggested that I buy double the amount of extra flooring because it was being ordered from out of state. But "bring it back if you don't need it"! He saw a single female and thought "sucker", I guess! Do not even consider using their preferred contractor; that contract has even more small writing that does not protect the consumer at all! Since I was planning on using the refund money to purchase vent grates, I have not bought them yet. I spray painted my metal grates brown. I also bought wood colored quarter round at the home store instead of their overpriced versions. I love the flooring, though; it's just what I wanted. If they had declared the 30 day return policy in the beginning, I would have been a happy customer. Bringing back five boxes of flooring out of 50 purchased should not have been as big a deal as they made it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with services provided by Lumber Liquidators and installers. I was treated in a very professional manner. I appreciate the 'no pushing' method of sales. I especially appreciate the potential installer going about his business even knowing that I might not use his services.
Description of Work: I had visited store and was made to feel very welcome. Ricky Ward showed me the bamboo display and took time to explain difference between regular bamboo and stranded. He showed me the difference between nailed and grooved installation. When I decided on three samples, Ricky brought them to me and spoke of the current sale price. He also gave me his business card as well as business card for their installers. I took the samples home to view. Once I determined what I wanted, I called the installers. It was easy to set up appointment time that suited me. The installer came on time to take measurements. His measurements came to within 6 sq feet of mine. The installer discussed the installation charges with me and explained each item involved in the installation. I told him that I had another contractor who was interested in doing the installation work. The installer was very pleasant and just asked that I let him know directly if I decided to go with the other contractor. The fact that I might not choose his company did not deter him from his completing the estimate. I took the completed quotation back to Lumber Liquidators the next day. I did decide to go with the other contractor but place my order for the materials. That person wrote up the order, explained the items, told me about delivery options, and offered payment options. Delivery was made the next day. Now I'm waiting for the bamboo material to come to my home temperature and humidity level. This 2 to 3 week sitting period is necessary to a successful installation. One can also look at website to get information about the bamboo produce and installation recommendations.

Their price and quality are first rate. My neighbor is a hardwood floor installer and he installed a floor with all the discounts he could get for being in the business and he still couldn't get as good of a deal as what you can at Lumber Liquidators. It was about $1/square foot less than any competitor I checked out. There is a huge selection to choose from. I asked them about getting it installed and they said that if they can't find someone that meets their standards then they won't recommend anyone in order to preserve their reputation. They were, however, able to recommend someone to us but he was booked several months out. They are very big, so when any one goes out of business they just buy their inventory then sell it at a terrific discount. They also make their own hard wood and cut out the middle man to keep the prices down for their customers. When I compared, the competitor's seemed to have terrible selections, inadequate amounts and ridiculously high prices. At Lumber Liquidators it is all they do so they are full of information. They don't try to sell you the most expensive or cheapest one, they just tell you about the different types and advantages or disadvantages of each. Also, I bought glue for the flooring for $150 a can at a competitor's store and I bought the same can at Lumber Liquidators for $50 a can. It seems like a lot of installers buy their products from them, too.
Description of Work: We bought about 500 square feet of bamboo flooring from Lumber Liquidators. They are a supply house, they do not install or deliver the product. They sell flooring and different products needed for the installation. They buy close out and they have their own production facilities.

Immediately after installation noise the floor made was outrageous (popping, cracking). It began to buckle, cup and p*****. We were assigned to Shelly Carter ("Customer Care") to discuss and sent her all the requested pics. We were told we'd receive a written statement as to how to proceed. Over seven weeks passed with no word. I e-mailed Ms. Carter for an update. She said she had mailed the letter and it had not been returned so I should have it. She e-mailed me a copy of the letter which had my name on it but a completely wrong address (an entirely different city). The letter states that L.L. will take no action because an HVAC system was not utilized in my home during acclimation. I called Ms. Carter to refute multiple items within the letter, namely that I never stated in our initial conversations that my HVAC was not running. I am assuming she just used that as the easiest way to dismiss my claim. The letter further states that the normal characteristics of wood are to expand when the moisture balance is excessive and shrink or contract when the moisture content is below normal. As our wood bloated up when the A/C was running constantly I fail to see that this statement applies to our situation. Lastly Ms. Carter included an excerpt from the installation instructions which were very enlightening as none of our multiple boxes contained them. The only instructions we received were the few lines printed on the end of each box. I opened our last remaining box that we kept as spares to be sure and there were no instructions in it either. That new box also was warped and cupped and the pieces wouldn't even fit together. During our conversation Ms. Carter did not dispute any of these facts. Finally she informed me that Lumber Liquidators would not stand behind the 30 year warranty on this product because “it was installed”!!! I fail to see the value of a warranty that is voided because the product was installed as designed and intended. When I pressed her for options she said she would send me a packet to tell me how to set up an inspection. I made sure she corrected my mailing address that day (7/7/09) and I have yet to receive anything. In that time I have been able to do some research and have found multiple complaints from other consumers about the nature of these Lumber Liquidators “inspections” and their outcome. I have no doubt that this inspection would be yet another opportunity for Ms. Carter to tell me we have no recourse. I sent a UPS pack to the CEO with all the documentation and asked that he contact me. He stuck me with another "Customer Care" rep who's just as bad. Had I googled LL before I made this purchase I would have known they refuse to back their warranties. I've also found tons of people on Facebook who are part of anti-LL groups. STAY AWAY!!! I've lost all my $$$ and have to have the entire area re-done. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$!

We thought we did our homework online and went to the local showroom with print-outs in hand. The salesperson seeing this assumed we knew what we needed/wanted when we said we'd like to order the $2.75 sq foot Brazilian Cherry flooring. He failed at that time to confirm we realized that was the short flooring. This was not made clear to us until we went 10 days later to pick the product up. I might add that option for delivery was not mentioned at the time of the initial sale either. Plus, when the forklift operator was bringing the product out to load in our vehicles the bottom 3 boxes split and spilled all over the parking lot. He started to gather the scratched and ding d pieces and put in my truck before I indicated that I wanted 3 new boxes to replace those. Another note, although our installer did a fantastic job working with the smaller pieces (See reports for Integrity Home Builders). I have several pieces where the pre-finish is starting to bubble.
Description of Work: Purchased 1000 sq feet of pre-finished Brazilian Cherry inch thick 3-1/4 inch wide Shorts wood flooring. Shorts = Shorter lengths than standard flooring. In this instance the majority of the pieces were 12 & 15 inches long. With just a few at 18 inches and 3 feet.
