JIM GRIFFIN ROOFING CO

We have a sunroom, built from a kit, that is attached to the home we purchased in May 2010. In July 2010, I noticed that when it rained, the seam where the home and sunroom connected would leak into the sunroom (luckily, there is no leakage into the home itself). I contacted this company assuming I would actually be dealing with Jim Griffing Roofing. What I didn't find out until much later was that I was in fact dealing with a "partner" named Chris Ebel. In August of 2010, he came out and gave an estimate for repairs of $250 for roof repairs. We set an appointment and a worker was sent to perform the repairs. I was told to contact Chris directly if there continued to be a leak. I called Chris the next time it stormed to inform him the problem was persisting. He came out a few more times to try and caulk or re-tar other gaps in the siding or seams on the roof. Each time I called him to let him know that he had not fixed the problem, it was like pulling teeth to get a call back an appointment set. He would frequently skip the appointments. Finally, after threatening to drop them and use another company, he came out with his siding "person," whom I did not realize was a sub-contractor, and told me that the only other thing he could think to do was to replace some siding that didn't overlap enough, and put in a J-channel. He provided an estimate for this of $575. I agreed to this price, though I felt it was inflated, and the subcontractor did a very nice job of matching the existing siding. However, I still had concerns about the work and again had to threaten to call the president of the company in order to get a returned call and follow up appointment. Finally, I got him to come out, and it became clear there was nothing more he could offer me. I paid the amount and wiped my hands of him, even though the roof STILL LEAKS. This was in October 2010. In December 2010, I received a notice from the subcontractor stating that even though I had paid Jim Griffin Roofing in October, they had never paid the subcontractor, and the subcontractor was demanding payment from me. It was at this point that I realized I had been charged a 91% mark-up! After leaving stern messages with Chris through email, phone, and via phone with Jim Griffin Roofing, I finally actually spoke to Patti Griffin. She was able to resolve the problem. When I confronted her about the price, she said the subcontractors were friends of Chris's. I told her that didn't make it okay to rip people off, to which she replied, "I know." I did not receive any refund or discount, however. I did receive a call back from Chris with his apologies (and excuses), but I would NEVER work with him again.

He did a really job! I have been working with Jim for years.

The sales contact for the company was pleasant and generally responsive. The work was performed quickly and the price was fair. There were two resultant problems that they had to come back and repair. After the completion of the job, I notice that my vent fan on the roof was no longer working causing my attic to retain much heat. When I confronted the company about this I was told that the attic fan was not warranted - they would do nothing to fix it. Additionally, I have personally picked up numerous (over 30) roofing nails from around my house. My daughter stepped on a roofing nail the weekend of July 22 while trimming hedges. The nail went through her shoe and into her foot. This necessitated a trip to an emergency care hospital where she received a tetanus shot. The company offered no remedy for this situation either.
