About us

Jim Dickerson Company, Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Air is a family owned and operated company serving the Charlotte and surrounding areas. After pressure washing our home we were unable to turn the exterior faucet completely off. We also had a leak in one of our bathroom sinks. I contacted Dickerson and within two hours the leaks were fixed and a detailed work order explaining every item used and the cost of labor was in my hand.
Description of Work: Fixed an external faucet that was leaking, and repaired a bathroom sink that also was leaking.

Very pleased with work! Contacted Jim Dickerson Plumbing on Friday, day after Christmas. A knowledgeable receptionist answered the phone. I requested a Monday appointment and was given the first time slot (8-9 am). Receptionist offered a Saturday appointment; I declined due to confidence in the cause of the leak and trying to avoid a 24 hour charge. Receptionist call Monday morning (7:45 am) indicating technician was in route. Technician arrived at 8:15 and completed the job in 1 hour 30 mins. Brian was very professional and focused on getting the job done without excessive talk. Brian's professionalism to identify the problem and resolve it was excellent in comparison to other contractors that I dealt with. I'm pleased with the price because I have been charged more for less from other contractors.
Description of Work: Leak on the first floor which originated from the second floor bathroom. Fairly certain the bath tub drain was the problem. Jim Dickerson Technician inspected the 2nd floor toilet and bath tub. He determined that he would have to cut into the 1st floor ceiling to confirm the leak and repair. Cut out the section of the ceiling drywall to repair broken bath tub shower which required a waste and overflow tub kit.

They are very professional. They were here on time and when they said they would be. They are particularly good. He put in our new bathroom fixtures. They are competitively priced. We would use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced a water line that had broke. We couldn't figure out where the leak was so we got a whole new line going from the street to our house. They also replaced a shower valve that was leaking in our bathroom. They installed new plumbing fixtures in two bathrooms.

They really worked hard. The plumber came first to take a look at the situation and he told exactly was wrong. He told exact details and gave me exact numbers. However, I won't let the other guy come and stay with me. Apparently, this was because so he doesn't charge us more with 2 foreman's. He did exactly what he said he was going to do.

This man came when he said he would. He did a good job of finding the leak and repairing it. He had to remove the drywall but taped it back up. This will be fixed later when we get the floor worked on.

They were great - came out quickly and as scheduled, and did exactly what was needed. The plumber also gave us good suggestions on a long-term fix for the lavatory faucet, but agreed that we didn't need to over-spend on it now. We'll use them again in the future.
Description of Work: A plumber diagnosed a problem with a lavatory faucet, and was able to fix it temporarily so it would keep working. He also unplugged a thick clog in a separate sink and got it working right again.

We were very pleased with the work they provided. They were able to determine that the leak was caused by a main pipe in our home that had been accidentally drilled into by the electrician who had worked on the property when the house was being built. It either had gone unnoticed or unreported and was hidden once the ceiling was in place. They determined this by first eliminating all the other possibilities and as a last resort opening the ceiling up by cutting out a piece of the drywall.
Description of Work: We had a leak on the first floor which we thought was coming from a bathroom or fan duct on the second floor. We had been unable to determine the cause or location and needed to get someone out who could help us.

I have been very pleased with this company each time I have used them. Their employees are friendly and professional and have always completed the work to my satisfaction. In the case of the clogged kitchen drain, the plumber told me that my drain fixtures were old and had a lot of buildup in them. I mentioned that we had plans to redo our kitchen within the next year or so, and he recommended that I wait and replace the drain once we had the cabinets removed, as that would be much easier and cheaper than him cutting through the cabinet and wall to replace the drain right then. It sounds obvious, but for someone like me who doesn t know much about these things, I appreciated him telling me that and not trying to get the extra business when it wasn t in my best interest. He simply snaked the drain to get it working and gave me several suggestions for how to prevent it from clogging again before we had it replaced. I also like that they always explain their charges in detail.
Description of Work: I have used Jim Dickerson Plumbing to unclog my kitchen sink drain, replace broken p-traps in both my bathroom sinks, and replace my hot water heater. The price listed was the hourly rate.

The work was done very professionally with no followup required as no problems occurred later. On the day work was scheduled, there was a mixup with the directions given to the plumber which resulted in a relatively short delay, but the office very quickly resolved it by sending another plumber who was closer and available. The scheduled plumber called to inquire, apologized and called the office to address. I also received a followup call apologizing for the delay which was very much appreciated. I have used the company previously and will continue to do so. Debbie in the office had also given me great advice on being prepared with a new kitchen faucet in the event the existing one could not repaired.
Description of Work: The kitchen faucet had to be repaired as the sprayer became disconnected. It had to be removed to be repaired then reinstalled. We also had two existing faucets removed and new bathroom faucets installed.

I had the company come to the house two times within a week to fix issues that my contractor left unresolved. I had a great experience with Jeff the plumber on the first visit and I specifically asked for him when I uncovered the second issue and had to call for second visit. Jeff was efficient, courteous and willing to patiently explain the problem and solution in detail. After he finished the second repair, he did a quick walk through of my basement to make sure there weren't any obvious signs of other issues. I've used this company before and will continue to use them. They are reliable and I never get the sense that they are trying to invent problems to fix.

Plumber, Jeff Ross, showed up on time. He was pleasant, clean cut and courteous. He went right to work and cleaned up as he went. He was here an hour, but when he went to write the bill he put down that he was here 1 1/4 hours. When questioned, he said that he "had to" charge for up to 15 minutes travel time. When called for an estimate, I was told $135 for the first hour and nothing was mentioned about 15 minutes travel time charge. When I called the company, they said that I wasn't supposed to be charged for travel time, but 1 1/4 hours was correct. I timed him myself and he and I were not in dispute about how long he was here. However, I spent 20 minutes on the phone with 2 different women who wouldn't listen. It was as though they were grandstanding for each other in the office. The plumber was awesome, it is unfortunate that he is more than likely going to be made into a scapegoat by those women. What started out as a positive experience, my faucet looks great, ended up in disgust. Otherwise, this company would've gotten an awesome review. On the initial bill I was charged $196.25. After my verbal combat session with the office ladies, I paid $150 which is what it should've been to start with... $135 1st hour, $30 hoses subtract $15 Angie's List discount. Here's a tip for them- Decide if you adding 1/4 hour for travel time and make sure that office staff/plumbers are on the same page. He told me he was supposed to charge for the travel time. She told me there was no such charge. Their installation fee would've been $129...a flat fee. I was just trying to find the best plumbers using Angies List.

WE WERE CALLED TO CHECK A LEAK COMING FROM INSIDE THE BATHROOM. WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY THE MEMBER THAT DUNCAN REHABILITATION HAD TURNED THE WATER OFF BECAUSE OF THIS LEAK. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT PIER AT THIS LOCATION BEFORE WE WENT TO THE JOB SITE. WE CALLED AND LEFT 2 MESSAGES ON HER VOICEMAIL AND THEN CONTACTED THE MEMBER TO ASK IF WE SHOULD GO. HE ASKED THAT WE WAIT UNTIL SHE CALLS. WE ARRIVED AT THIS SITE WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF HER CALL. WE LOCATED AND REPAIRED THE PROBLEM IN 1 1/2 HOURS. WE COMPLETELY REBUILT THE COMMODE THAT WAS LEAKING FROM THE TANK. THIS CUSTOMER WAS NOT CHARGED AN HOUR OF TRAVEL. HE PAID FOR THE TIME WE WERE ON SITE + MATERIALS THAT WERE USED. I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY CONFUSION HE MAY HAVE.

We were under the impression from our inspector that our pump would keep chugging along so it wasn't a "right away" repair. And then...it died. So, we called looking for someone to get here before our weekend company arrived the next day. We had already purchased a pump from a home improvement store, and none of the other local companies we called were willing to come install a new part purchased elsewhere. These guys came out that morning, looked at our pump, went to another home improvement store and bought the connecting pieces that we hadn't got, and installed the pump within a couple of hours. They also made sure we would be able to drain it in the future, which was couldn't do before.
Description of Work: When we purchased our new home, the pump was on its last leg. When it finally broke, these guys came out to replace it.

Had a busted hot water heater. Dickerson Plumbing charged $145 to come out and tell me that I need a new one but they said I'd get that money back if I hired them to do the job. They quoted the total job at $995 which is, in my opinion, way too much. They said the price was so high because hot water heaters that size (6 gallon) are expensive. Home Depot sells them for $250. I ended up getting a couple of co-workers (non-plumbers) to do the installation and it took the two of them under two hours start to finish.

THIS SERVICE WAS FOR FHG, INC. THIS CALL WAS PLACED BY DAN WRAY(CONTRACTOR) TO CHECK FOR A LEAK IN THE BATHROOM. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, OUR TECHNICIAN NOTICED THE WATER HEATER WAS LEAKING. WE DID GIVE HIM A QUOTE OF $995.00. THIS INCLUDED ALL PERMITS FEES FROM THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE (ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING), ADDING A QUICK DISCONNECT (THIS IS A NEW CODE AND THIS HEATER DOES NOT HAVE ONE), PROVIDING AND INSTALLING A 6 GALLON HEATER, HAULING OFF OLD HEATER AND PROVIDING A WARRANTY ON NEW HEATER. OF COURSE, AN INDIVIDUAL CAN COMPLETE A JOB, AT A MUCH LESS COST, THAN A CONTRACTOR WHO HAS LICENSED, BONDED AND INSURED PLUMBERS. WE DO NOT PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM HOME DEPOT. WE INSTALL NAME BRAND HEATERS THAT ARE OF HIGHER QUALITY AND COST MORE. THE SERVICE CALL OF $145.00 WAS TO DETERMINE PROBLEM, NOT TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE ON WATER HEATER INSTALLATION. WHEN MR. WRAY CALLED HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS CAUSING THE LEAK.

We found the leak late Friday night. We had used these folks before to install a water heater so I looked them up again and found that they counted Saturday among their "regular" hours. I called them about 10:30 the next day. At the time she didn't have anyone but promised someone early Monday. Leak was not too bad so we agreed. I hadn't hung up for 2 minutes when she called me back and said she had a technician call in and could he come right over, so he came exactly when he said he would. He found the leak quickly (it appeared to be in the floor, but was actually in the wall) and had it fixed in two hours or less. We were left with a hole in the wall but he told me he couldn't fix that right up front. He explained everything he did and gave me some good information on my current plumbing and some inherent problems with the sort of pipes used.

I was extremely pleased with the work done by Ron. I did not mention Angie's List until he had already started working on the problems. So I knew that did not make a difference in the service. He was personable, knowledgeable and very professional. He also took a couple of minutes and made friends with my 2 dogs. Excellent customer service by Ron.
Description of Work: I had a leak in my Guest Bathroom and also needed a new Ballcock Assembly in the Master Bath. I had originally called a plumber that I had used in the past but after several unanswered messages I looked at Angie's List. I called approx 9:00 am and Ron, the service representative was here by 10:00am. Ron repaired both problems and work was completed by 10:45am.

Initial quote was 1675. They charged an additional 25 dollars to haul away the older model. They also charged an additional 2.50 for every 100 dollars over 500 if you use a credit card. They also charged for additional parts needed because of the code changes in the past 15 years. They were out of stock on the 40 gal water heaters and since they had 50 gal replacements they gave it to me at the quoted price.

I have used Dickerson plumbing on many occasions. Most recently, I moved into a new house and needed help to install a gas grill and a washer. The young man who came was very patient and helpful in explaining the supplies I needed to complete the listed installations and the installation was completed the next week. A month later, we were having problems with poor plumbing done in the construction of our house which resulted in a leaking faucet even after a few visit by these idiots. We found that we had some missing parts which no one in town stocked. After speaking with the manufacturers ourselves, we ordered the missing parts. The same gentleman from Dickerson plumbing came to help again. He found that the new parts were not even necessary and that all that was needed was to tighten everything up. I was charged only a minimal amount for this visit and was very pleased by his honesty. I would refer him to all my friends enthusiastically.
