James was very prompt in answering our call and coming out to talk to us. He was a great communicator and very patient with all of our questions. Since he was our first estimate - he had to field questions when we were comparing others and did not give us any indication of irration. We may have payed slightly more than what the others were offering, but we felt more comfortable with James and felt like he would be a "long term" contractor for us as he was not only the salesman - but also did some of the work. We liked that! Everything happened as he said - except for the shutter installation - which was not his fault. I liked how he listened to everything we had to say and was not irritated at all by our little nit picking that we gave him. He was happy to fix or change anything we asked. His crew is just absolutely awesome! They are so kind and so friendly. I truly felt like family was working on our home. I think James and his crew take great pride in their work and I would so love to have them back again! I put off doing this review because I wanted to post pictures and now I don't see where I can post before and after pictures. Now Angie's List disappoints me for that! I would love to show off James' work!!!

Price was good. Amount of time to finish the job was acceptable, and quality of work was good. Overall we are very pleased.

The project was flawless from beginning to end. James and his crew were punctual and were here when they said they would be here. The project took about 10 weeks to complete and would have been much quicker had the custom cabinets been finished earlier. Two parts of the project included removing existing walls (indoor and out) and redirecting weight bearing portions of the structure. James was able to complete these 2 parts of the renovation while we were out of town. We also remained in the house with 3 young kids during the complete kitchen remodel which took about 2 weeks. That was a little rough for us, but James went out of his way to make sure the exposed portion of the kitchen was safe for the kids. We have worked with many contractors and I cannot really say enough about how great it was to finally find an honest, hardworking, and true to his word contractor.

He was nice, but I ended up using someone else who was cheaper. I would have him out again for another estimate.

We had chosen this builder after seeing his recommendations on Angie's List, and JC Builders lived up to all of our expectations. The crews were punctual and respectful to our property. The job was done on-time and within the estimate. Also, the room is absolutely gorgeous. It's the most insulated and comfortable room in our house. The quality is fabulous. We're very thankful we chose JC Builders. We highly recommend this company for all of your remodeling projects.

Upon calling JC Builders, James Carr came out immediately to discuss the project and get information for the quote. He was by far the most professional and easy to talk to. We had an instant connection with him and his quote turned out to be very competitive. The first part of the project consisted of laying down the footing and getting the concrete slab poured. Then the brickwork, columns, and bluestone was added to the porch. James uses a contractor exclusively for this type of work and has worked with him over 10 years. We had a few bumps in the process, but any problems were resolved quickly and professionally. The quality provided by the foundation/brickwork contractor was beyond reproach. The work was exceptional and went beyond our expectations. James came out to the site periodically to oversee the work and make sure any problems or issues were addressed. Next the framing work, roofing and electrical work was done. This work was exceptional as well. I was impressed with the attention to detail. James not only oversaw this part of the project, but also did some of the work himself. At times we needed his opinion or ideas on what would look best and he provided honest answers. The one thing that stands out to me the most was his attention to detail and the fact that he always used quality materials. As a consumer, you are always weary that a contractor will cut costs and use inferior materials. That was not an issue with James. All his materials were of superior quality. We verified this ourselves by looking up the material on the Internet and finding it to be of superior quality and usually high end. We are extremely pleased with the quality and end result of our covered porch. There was only one item that I would recommend improvement on and that would be punctuality, which is why I rated it a B. There were several instances when we were told someone would be out to work on the porch that day and no one would show up. Also, there were times when we were told no work would be done that day and we weren't notified until the afternoon. That was a little disappointing since we were really excited about the project. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the workmanship and professionalism of this contractor. I'm very glad we chose this contractor and I would do it again without reservation.

James Carr with J.C. Builders did a fantastic job for us. If you are looking for a builder that stands behind his work and makes sure it is done right---James Carr is your guy. He is active on-site most of the time, not only overseeing what is going on, but is actually involved in some of the building himself. When James came to give us an estimate, he gave us various options and ideas that allowed him to design a gorgeous sunroom for us. He also gave us the idea for the portico over our front door. Our fireplace was a little challenging since it is an existing stone fireplace, but James figured out the best way to install the mantel without being costly and messy. During this building process we had a horrible hail storm and ended up needing a new roof, window screens, and all new gutters and gutter guards. James offerred to take care of all the additional work needed since he was already here and handled all of the paper work necessary for the insurance company. With the storm, we also had water get into the living area of the house and soak the carpet. After pulling the carpet up and seeing what was beneath it, we decided to replace all the carpet downstairs with solid hardwood floors. James had his hardwood guy out within a couple of days and the installation was done in 3 or 4 days. The guys that work for J.C. Builders even helped us move all of our furniture before and after the floor installation! This is a great crew of men with J.C. Builders. During this time, we also had our upstairs air conditioning leak water through our upstairs bathroom ceiling. James, again, said not to worry and had one of his guys sheet rock the ceiling. He again handled the paper work for the claim with the air conditioning unit. We had only two glitches in the building process and I must commend James on his fairness and professonalism in handling both matters. James states that he performs work of the highest quality and anything with his name attached to it will be done the right way. If it is not to your satisfaction, he will get it right. I can attest to this statement. First, the existing brick on our house was no longer made and could not be found anywhere. We ended up using a brick that was the closest match they could find. James and his brick guy thought the brick would blend well with the existing brick, but once the sunroom was built the brick appeared off. We decided to get the brick/mortar stained, which James agreed. Once the staining was done, it looked oustanding and blended well with the existing brick. It actually turned out to be more of a mortar color issue versus the brick. Second, the sunroom ac unit did not function well and kept leaking water, even after several trips and adjustments by the air conditioning company. We let James know that we were not satisfied with this unit and wanted it replaced. James got with the air conditioning company and had a new unit installed within a day or two along with an extended warranty for our trouble. I cannot say enough positive things about James Carr and his crew. Every member of J.C. Builders was a pleasure to work with. Most of the crew have been with James for many years and that speaks volumes for James and his company. Every member of the crew aims to please and cares about their work and craftsmanship. Without a doubt, J.C. Builders will be my builder for any future remodeling or building.

We signed with them but the project hasn't started yet. They were fine. We liked the owner. We also met with another company and what we liked about J C builders was that the owner will actually be onsite. The other company's price was very close to this one but we just liked J C builders because he said he owns the company and would always be there onsite.

First I would like to thank James Carr and his guys for all the hard work. I found JC Builders on Angie's List, and could not be more pleased with the overall experience. We called JC Builders and set up an appointment for a Saturday morning. James met me at the house on time to give me an estimate as well as discuss other options regarding the ideas I had. We did get a few other estimates from some other companies. We decided to move forward with JC Builders based not only price but comfort level with James himself. The one thing that really made a big impression on me was that he told me that he is there on the jobsite swinging the hammer everyday, and he was. During the remodeling there were several times when we changed things and went in different directions. James was always willing and happy to do whatever we wanted. There was never a time where I thought he or his guys were frustrated with me or my wife. James and his guys also cleaned up everyday after work to maintain a safe clean environment for our children not to mention our animals. Overall the total remodel went very smoothly including the small bumps along the way like the weather. James had everything planned out and it all fell into place. The remodel did take longer than expected only because we kept adding things and since this was my first experience having a home remodelled. I highly recommend James and his company to anyone wanting to do any type of remodelling and I will definitely be using JC Builders again in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with James. He was responsive, professional, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to get the job done for us. We had quite a bit of rain throughout the project, which of course, caused delays but James always kept his cool and still got the job done by my deadline (my 4 year old twins back yard birthday party!). :-) I will be using James again to install an under deck ceiling on the beautiful new deck he built for us.

My husband and I put down ceramic tile ourselves five years ago, and I would not recommend a dining room tile job as DIY. It looked decent but not great, and when we were ready to sell our home we knew it had to go. JC Builders had built our screened in porch, deck, and put in kitchen tile for us before, so we called them to fix our tile job. Sadly (for us), when it was all said and done, it cost less rhan a hundred dollars more for JC Builders to do the tile than what it had cost us to do it ourselves. We had to buy so many supplies to do it (and rent a wet saw) plus the cost of materials that we have learned our lesson now... hire professionals unless you yourself are one. Because we were trying to quickly get our house on the market, they hurried to get it done. They worked long hours and did a great job. The owner is always on site and is the leader of every project he does, which is great and ensures the job is done right. Our new tile looks great. Oh, and our house went under contract in one day, and had we left our old tile (again, not horrible but not perfect) I doubt the house would have gone so quickly. I also thi k the porch, deck, and kitchen tile JC Builders did helped. We now live in the DC area and are looking for as good a general contractor.

Throughout the entire project proposal process, James was nothing but professional, helpful and eager to please. He spent many hours developing a detailed project proposal and put a lot of thought into ways to cut costs on the project without sacrificing quality or design featured we really wanted. In the end, we accepted a different bid but we would have been very comfortable working with James on this project.

We are SO happy with the end result of our addition! James and his crew far exceeded our expectations. The workmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. James was very flexible when it came to making changes as the job progressed. He added a lot of design elements that we had not even thought of. Anything that did not look perfect was done over- even things I completely overlooked. James and his crew was very responsive and always maintained a clean and safe worksite, which was a big plus since we have three children. Also, every subcontractor that James brought in was also top notch. We are extremely pleased with JC Builders and would highly recommend this contractor for any size job.

James did an outstanding job. I had a good idea of how I thought the deck should be designed, but James and I discussed in detail and he came up with much better layout. He put a lot of nice finishing touches on it to dress it up. The deck looks great and is very functional. It is well built and should last for a very long time.

We are very pleased with the overall results, including the consultation prior to construction, communication of progress during construction, and the final product. James did a great job in providing consultation/ideas during the estimate process, as well as answering many questions prior to and during construction. That was a sharp contrast to the two other firms that I contacted regarding the project (one firm was extremely late in returning my initial and follow-up call; a second firm was over-aggressive and submitted a bid that was much higher in price yet for a less-attractive roof design). In addition, James and his team were very responsive, punctual, professional and maintained a clean work-site. There are a couple of other projects that we will likely do next year, and I plan to simply call James directly, given I have a high-level of confidence in his team's quality of work and overall value.

James is a true professional. His excellent reputation had preceded him and he lived up to it. Throughout the estimate, material pricing, purchasing and scheduling of the job, he maintained contact, always being responsive by email or phone. He performed much of the work himself and his crew was polite, neat and dilligent. It was truly amazing to see the speed with which they worked, framing the entire deck within one day. The deck was completed within 3 days with minimal disruption to our lives. It is rare in this day and age to meet a person of their word. His professionalism, skill and dedication are exemplary. As long as we reside in his area of coverage, I will never call another contractor than him for any construction job, interior or exterior, at our home again.

The day after my husband contacted the company, the owner was at our house, measuring and providing us with quotes. Other companies took days to even call us back. After we decided to go with JC Builders, they immediately (as in, the next day) began work. The crew is small and the owner works with them, and, as a mom who is home all day with a baby, I felt very safe with this situation. They worked hard all day for several weeks (we had a lot to be done) and we love the finished result. Lots of little details that make our porch really stand out. We were thrilled with the quality of the work, but even more thrilled with the service. When any long project is being done to a person's home, it is very important to feel comfortable with those doing the work. We had a difficult situation because my mother passed away unexpectedly in the middle of the project, and we had to leave town very suddenly. We felt very comfortable leaving a key for the owner to complete the project while we were gone. We couldn't be happier with the service we received, and we will use JC Builders again for any home remodeling or repair we need. The only "note" I need to make is that the amount we spent may not have been what I listed above... I can't recall the amount, but I know it was right on with the quote we received and "fair" compared with the other companies we received quotes from.

JC Builders did an amazing job. The owner, James Carr, was on the job site every day with 2 workers. He was there cutting the wood with them, and did not sub out any work. They built my deck in about 2.5 days - I was very impressed that they finished that quickly! They were all very professional and helpful with any extras I needed. James does not nickel and dime you for every request, which is very refreshing. He is a friendly and honest business man to deal with and I have already recommended them to my friends and plan to use them for any future needs I may have. I got his name from a recommendation from my neighbor, who also used them to build their deck.

James gave me an estimate and worked within my budget. The work was done a little later than the expected finish date. This was due to added work on my part and his attention to detail. I will hire him again for future projects. Highly recommend.

Had talked with various contractors for almost 2 years about job. One important issue was designing and building a screened porch on the front of a 50 year old home and have it fit in functionally and appearance wise. Because of the neighborhood, the cost of the job could not be excessive. Mr. Carr's presentation and pricing were impressive and his references were good. He started the job when promised, finished when promised and was open to any suggestion or change request on our part. The finished price was just as originally quoted, with adjustments for some changes we made. The only suggestion we made to him and he promised to address on future jobs involved organization of the job site at the end of the work day. This issue was due partially to the long work days in order to finish the job as soon as possible and did not interfere with our normal routines.

We had many good conversations with members of the crew. We were treated just like an equal. We felt very comfortable with those men doing the job. They were on time, bright and early everyday. Their craftsmanship was amazing. This crew was very skilled. We have had many compliments on our new deck. Every chance we get, we tell people about this company.

SUPER QUALITY AND VALUE JOB. THIS JOB WAS QUOTED BY THREE VENDORS AND JC WAS THE LOWEST AND MOST FLEXIBLE OF THE THREE. HE HAD GOOD REFERENCES AND HIS CREW COMPLETED THE WORK IN ONE 10 HOUR DAY. THEY LITERALLY SHOWED UP BEFORE I LEFT FOR WORK AND WERE PACKING UP WHEN I RETURNED. VERY PROFESSIONAL, THEY LEFT A BIT OF A MESS FROM THE JOB, BUT FRANKLY FOR ALL THE BENEFIT, I DIDN'T MIND CLEANING UP MYSELF.
