IDE Structural Engineers

Marcel was the engineer and since I had been through this on another home I felt he was thorough, patient with all my questions, as well was his staff particularly Kathleen from his office. The fee was very reasonable especially for the time he spent reviewing the job. Not only would I recommend IDS for any engineering work but another engineering firm recommend IDS to me as being top notch and they truly were.

Daniel was professional and thorough. He took the time to explain his findings to me, and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend Daniel and this group.

Patric was on time, thorough in his inspection, and great at explaining what he saw. Issues were minor, but in addition to pointing out the issues, solutions were offered as well. Would recommend to anyone I know and would hire again if any more issues come up.

A detailed report was sent to us with a list of the problem areas and verbiage for possible and required fixes for those areas. The Engineer was very personable and explained everything to us in layman terms. My wife said that he fit right in like part of the family. We are very pleased and would contact IDE again.

Michael was prompt and listened to my description of the situation and the work we had done. He examined inside and outside and diagnosed the complex issue almost immediately. He described it clearly and even provided a basic sketch so that I could understand it. He also provided a solution that should eliminate our problem in the future. Contacted IDE after recommendation from foundation repair company inspection that identified widespread rot and deterioration of structural floor members. Also researched them on Angie's List and NARI membership. One phone call got an inspection scheduled promptly. Daniel, the P.E. arrived promptly, was courteous and professional. After a brief discussion of the nature of the problem and services to be provided he went right to work. He conducted a thorough inspection, provided a verbal update and submitted his written report promptly as promised. He also answered some follow-up questions I had. I would definitely recommend IDE. P.S. I don't know how their competitors work but I was pleasantly surprised that the actual engineer performed the inspection. I was expecting a "tech" of some sort to do the "dirty work" and then the engineer to prepare/sign of on the report. Nice to have the actual professional handle the process from start to finish.

I inherited the home in question and discovered a long standing moisture problem in the crawlspace had resulted in severe mold and rot in the structural members supporting the floor system. I had the crawlspace inspected by a foundation repair company and they suggested a structural engineering evaluation due to the extent and severity of the rot. IDE was one of the companies suggested and I contacted them after some research including consulting Angie's List. The initial phone contact was uneventful and an appointment was scheduled promptly. Daniel arrived promptly, was professional, courteous and got right to business after discussing the nature of the services he would provide and answering a few questions. He did a thorough job, delivered his report promptly as promised and answered a couple follow-up questions. I was pleased and would recommend IDE without reservation. There was one positive surprise. I had anticipated a "tech" would do the dirty work of navigating the crawlspace, conducting the inspection, taking notes etc. and the engineer would write or sign off on the report. In this case Daniel the P.E. handled the actual inspection and process from start to finish. This increased my comfort level that the final product was accurate and complete.

Daniel provided an exhaustive and comprehensive examination of our home with regard to structural issues such as cracking walls, nail pops, sloping floors, etc. - a variety of issues we had become concened with. He then gave us his analysis of the issues as well as recommendations regarding repair options. He followed up with a very nice report (with pictures) , which expanded on the original analysis with recommendations and options. We were very happy with the service.

Excellent experience! Mike Gervais was a pleasure to deal with and very professional. He took accurate measurements and calculations. He made sound recommendations and got the engineering report back to me the next business day. My entire experience from scheduling the appointment with Kathleen to my inspection from Mike was a great experience. Kathleen spent a lot of time on the phone discussing the process and how prevalent structural issues are in the Southeast. I would highly recommend this firm.

They came to our house in under a week. The engineer and I had a conversation before he arrived to prep the meeting. Excellent experience.

To start, the customer service at IDE is great. Kathleen was friendly and very responsive to finding a slot for us on short notice so that we could get our inspection completed in time to close on our home. Marcel completed our inspection. He ran into a short delay en route to our home but called us ahead of time to let us know that he was about 15 minutes behind schedule. He was also kind enough to discount his services (which we didn't even ask for) because of the brief delay. Once he arrived he walked us through the damage that he found and did a great job of explaining the possible causes of the cracks and several possible scenarios for what do expect down the line in repair costs as the home continues to settle/age. He was prompt in completing his report and repair plan to give to a foundation repair company to complete the needed fixes. I would use this company again in the future for any of our residential structural engineering needs!

Daniel Rochester arrived 15 minutes early and presented himself very professionally. After a brief conversation Daniel went to work measuring and addressing my concerns as we walked through the house. Daniel took the time to understand all of my questions before crawling under my house and continuing his inspection. After his inspection was complete Daniel addressed all of my concerns and gave me a good verbal report that he found nothing that had to be repaired and that only minor settling had occurred in our 26 year old house. Prior to calling Intelligent Design Engineering I had thought about calling a foundation company. I am so happy that I hired an Engineering firm who had my best interest in mind prior to calling a company a foundation company. Even if I had needed foundation work, I would have had someone who was working for me that would have provided a plan that I would have given to the foundation company. With the professional service and the peace of mind that I now have to go on with my renovations, I feel that your fee was very reasonable and money well spent, probably saved me a few thousand dollars!

This is the second time I have used Intelligent Design and there service is great. I am experienced in remodeling and construction and find there recommendations to be sound and practical. They are very responsive. Best engineering service provider I have ever worked with.

Marcel worked me in after a cancellation, so he was a little late getting to us. However, he did a very thorought inspection of our attic and crawlspace, and provided a very detailed report. Very pleased with the service and would use again.
