TURNS OUT WE DO NOT HAVE THE STRUCTURAL ISSUE THAT WE HAD THOUGHT. HE WAS AWESOME AND ASSURED ME THAT WE HAD NO PROBLEM.

We have a colonial style house with a kitchen that is closed off to other rooms. Two builders have looked at the space and made differing recommendations on how to open up the space to adjoining rooms by knocking down walls. To settle the debate, I wanted the advice of a structural engineer and chose Intelligent Design Engineering based on Angie's List reviews. Marcel was prompt, professional, and thorough. He discovered that the builders had assumed the non-load-bearing wall was load-bearing and vice versa which would have been a disaster - or at the very least a costly last-minute change of plans when they had opened the walls up. Marcel emailed me his report including a drawing of the space and his recommendations within a few hours.

He gave us a blue print and a recommendation on what to do. He was very nice and professional. I have no problem with him. He came when he said he would and gave the evaluation when he said he would. He explained stuff to us.

Marcel arrived at our house on time. He inspected not only our chimney, but some other small cracks in our masonry that we had not even noticed. He was a pleasure to work with. We would use him again

I was able to get an appointment quickly. The person who came out was knowledgeable and easy to work with. I wanted an independent report about the wood under my house as I was told there was a lot of damaged wood underneath and he inspected it for me and will be providing a written report. I will use them again in the future.

Marcel showed up on time, and walked through our entire house and basement, addressing all of our concern areas. At each spot, he told me why it is or isn't a problem, what we can do to fix it, and gave me pointers on how to fix it myself to save money. He didn't find any major problem areas, let me know I could call him anytime to review what we talked about, and decided he'd only charge $250 for a consultation fee, since he didn't have to write up a report. Considering we were expecting AT LEAST $500, not to mention thousands more if he found any major problems, that was a price we were VERY willing to pay. We plan on finishing our basement in the next couple of years, and we'll definitely be calling Marcel to engineer the plans.

Marcel responded very quickly to my online request for information. We made an appointment for the inspection within a week of our first phone conversation. He asked some questions about my areas of concern and prior work conducted on the house. He then conducted the inspection. A week later I received the report via email including photos depicting the referenced issues and repair recommendations. I received a hardcopy shortly afterward. The document is appropriate to pass on to contractors for bidding purposes. Marcel was easy to work with and proficient at his assessment. He provided us with peace of mind and a sound course of action. I'm happy to recommend Intelligent Design Engineering and I'd be happy to use their servies again.

Marcel Papineau came on time and was extremely professional. We walked through out the house looking at the walls and taking pictures of areas of concern. He did the same think for the exterior of the house. Fortunately none of the cracks were serious and the foundation was fine. He did find a settling of our garage that did not need immediate attention but I might want to level off at some point. Using Marcel saved me several thousand dollars doing repairs that I did not need to do while giving me peace of mind that my house was ok for now.

My real estate agent recommended Intelligent Design after an inspection report noted cracks in an exterior wall of a home I was interested in purchasing. Marcel promptly assessed the situation, provided detailed drawings of his recommendations for repair, and patiently explained the repair process to me. He willingly worked with the company that placed the new foundation footings to make sure that the work progressed according to his recommendations and that he could inspect the project prior to the new footings being buried beneath the house. After his final inspection of the house, Marcel provided a professional report that I can pass along to the next buyer to assure them that the house is in good shape. Overall, Marcel was prompt, pleasant, competitively priced, and easy to work with.

Overall, the customer service and experience was wonderful. I trusted Marcel and his expertise. I will definitely use again in the future.

Marcel was very responsive. I was able to schedule an appointment with 24 hours of making contact with him. He spent a great deal of time assessing the issue, taking appropriate measurements, etc, and was able to provide a report the same day complete with recommendations for resolving the structural issue. He is very, very knowledgeable and professional. I have also used Chad Ritter in the same engineering firm and was also, very, very satisfied with his level of knowledge. I highly recommend this firm.

Marcel was very easy to speak to on the phone and was quickly available to see us. This was important as we were on a tight schedule due to wasting time with other structural engineering firms. Once we met Marcel we had a solid confidence in his firm and shortly after his visit we had the structural plans. We are happily enjoying the new design.

Marcell was great to work with. He seemed very concerned and responsive. No work was actually done, but we would have considered using him if the need had been there.

I called and left a message for someone to call me about a crack on my porch and a dip in my driveway. Mike called me back and spent about 15 minutes listening to me panick about how I thought my foundation was unstable. Fortunately he remained level headed and asked me several questions and while he informed me that he couldn't say for sure without looking at the property, he mentioned that it sounded like normal wear and tear and not necessarily something I needed an engineer for at this point. He did, however, tell me what to do to monitor the cracks to see if they were signs of foundational issues or normal wear and tear related cracks. I didn't ultimately engage them, but if in a year I notice any of the changes that Mike and I discussed, I will certainly be calling him back.

Marcel is very professional and efficient in his work. He scoped everything out within 30 minutes and verbally detailed his early recommendations to my contractor and myself. A detailed report for us to follow came the next day. I couldn't ask for much more. He provided the service that was advertised and I'm now able to continue with my remodeling project with some piece of mind that I won't have to fix it later.

I give Intelligent Engineering 5 stars. Marcel was easy to contact. He was prompt in returning my call. He was out in a few days. He was on time and very professional. He listened to all our concerns and gave the house a very thorough inspection. He located the problem and wrote a very complete report with pictures. He is available to talk with the company we select to do the foundation work . I highly recommend this company.

Marcel worked with us through this process. He is very diligent and timely. He came up with a design that would maximize the space above our garage for storage space while improving the structural integrity of our garage ceiling/roof. Marcel worked beautifully with our contractor. Our contractor had an idea that gave us additional garage space, and Marcel adjusted the drawing accordingly. We could not be more pleased.

As always, Mike was prompt and professional, listening to our requests and ideas. His solution was perfect. In particular, if not for his idea for how to design the beam in the crawlspace we would have been required to re-route a lot of HVAC and electrical equipment. Clearly his knowledge and creativity saved us and our client a lot of expense. As the project progressed, we were asked for further explanation from the county building inspector. Mike was able to turn around a solution within 24 hours which allowed us to keep moving with the renovation.
