Bob was an amazing salesperson. But he promised more than he delivered. He said it would take 3 days - it took 8. We had to push our movers back a couple times. He said his workers would wear covers on their shoes and have drapes on the carpet. Neither was true and we still find paint spots on the carpet. He said they would rip out the old tape at the corners of the ceiling, but they only did that in our master when I saw that they were not doing it. They didn't do it anywhere else, and since I was not there overseeing it, and we wanted to move in, we had to live with it once they were done. He also pressured me into paying our final payment before all the little details were finished because he "had to pay his workers." But then it took forever to get them to come back and finish the touch ups. Overall, the house looked great at the end. But I was very unhappy with the disconnect between what was promised and what was delivered.
Description of Work: The entire house repainted - walls, trim, ceilings.

I decided to go with Five Star, because Richard P. who gives the estimates made me feel like he was very knowledgeable on his product which he is, and I felt like I was hiring some high quality professional painters! I took off of work for the three days that were expected to have the job done and watched as my nightmare unfolded. Day one consisted of five painters coming over along with Richard P. to show them what was expected and if I had any questions or concerns to contact him. As I did my morning routine when I am off work, I notice everyone getting the paint prepared in areas they would be working from together. It stood out real quick to me that they only had 1 drop cloth, which was not utilized as much as ONE was needed. They scratched my hardwood flooring in the Kitchen when they moved the refrigerator in which Richard took responsibility for and took off $300 from the cost of the job. I was able to obtain a quick quote due to the fact I live in a new community. As day one came to an end the lead painter named Carlos asked when a good time for one of his guys to come back tomorrow and finish the job would be. I said that I was told that this was a three day job, so I'll be here and ready to answer the door at 8 am, and I asked Carlos, do you really think he is going to be able to finish what is left by the end of tomorrow? Carlos said he had another job he had to be at and he would be back to help finish at 3 pm. I said OK and that left a funny feeling with me. As I looked at the paint job that was supposedly finished in the kitchen I became very weary of how this job would turn out. The kitchen had two different batches of the same color paint used which did not match! This had to be redone on day 3. But let me talk about day 2. Day 2 began with the one painter showing up but almost an hour later than he said the day prior which was 8 am. I give it to this guy though, he worked his tail off painting a lot of what was left for him. As five O'clock came around and no sign of Carlos, I called Richard asking him if he had heard from him as I wanted to know the plan for day 3 and show Carlos the two tone paint job he left in kitchen. I also told Richard that I was not happy about having one guy under the pressure of finishing such a large job as I was expecting this to be a professional job done. Richard later got a hold of Carlos and said he was caught in traffic which is why he was late that day. This two tone paint also appeared all through the down stairs, and I figured out that on day one when they were outlining the walls to be painted that was the different batch of paint, in which they had to take care of on day 3. Richard came by on day 3 and checked the progress of the job and assured me that all issues would be up to my satisfaction by the end of the day. He then asked that I sign his contract of job finished and for me to give the check to Carlos when they are finished. I then told Richard I am not one to sign things until a job is complete. He said in that case will I sign it and stick it in an envelope along with a the check and stick it on my front porch so he could pick it up in the morning. I said sure. Well, that didn't happen...as the Carlos and actually 3 other guys finish for the day on day 3 Carlos asked what I thought. I said well Carlos since we have had such an issue so far with paint matching up I can not honestly make a decision on that until the paint drys. Need less to say he used two different tones again in the foyer. I could honestly keep going, but it's just making me angry reliving it. I will give Richard a B+ for his effort in trying to satisfy me/get paid due to his unprofessional paint crew as I told Richard my neighbors said "I should fire you, but I want you to make things right." A check was finally struck when my wife and I were completely over it, and wanted to put this nightmare behind us. Richard had Carlos bring over two new gallons of paint for any touching up that was needed in the future and that is when my wife signed the contract being complete with a side note on there saying "not satisfied, I will finish it myself". Don't use Five Star Painters, please save yourself the headache, but if have too, I hope your experience goes a thousand times better than ours.
Description of Work: I had the entire down stairs painted including the kitchen and half bath, as well as, a large open 25 ft. foyer, upstairs hallway and master bedroom.

Then did a very nice job. There were a couple little spots that could have been better. This is from an OCD person so I have to give them credit that I am usually hard to please. I would use them again and upfront let them know my desires and I believe they will perform perfectly.

They did a very good job. They worked long hours and finished my project 1 and 1/2 days early. Owner did a couple of inspections, did beginning walk through and ending walk through. Moved my furniture and window treatments out of the way and them back into place. Highly recommend them.

The owner of this company lacks customer service skills. The level of communication was insufficient. I was not kept informed of when services would be performed and when services were delayed. They sub-contract to local painters, and I will say the painter did not do a bad job. But I look to be aware when someone will actually be coming to do the job and did not receive that level of communication. Unsurprising to me, the level of communication did however go up when it was time to receive payment.

I had Five Star Painting remove the popcorn from my 2 story entry. They did a great job and fast. They also cleaned up nicely before they left. The job was an Angies Deal for popcorn removal. Because the area was two story they charged a little more but I was certainly satisfied.

Had to start over with new contractor separate from a Five Star Painting. The only things done correctly by Five Star were getting the estimate, setting a start date and then refunding my deposit in a timely manner. All work and communication in between was a disappointment. The carpentry work done on the home was amateur at best and has to be fixed and/or replaced by another licensed contractor. Cuts were terrible, ran boards wrong way, tried to hide other repair work he did not do with scrap wood. He also used scrap wood to extend boards when cuts were not measured and therefore short. Site left dirty on day one after discussing this would be cleaned each day. Trim pieces removed and not put back or replaced, etc etc. After three days of this, the owner agreed with all the issues and set a "new" crew to come out following morning. That crew supposedly showed up around 9am and then left doing zero work. Owner was unaware after I begged him to oversee job more closely and make sure things were on track. Time was a factor. Line of communication between owner/project manager and workers was terrible. The job was left totally unfinished when original worker said he was done. I found all the problems everyday before the overseer of the project did, whoever that was suppose to be, I am still not sure. Project manager was never really on site except at the beginning of the project. They did not come back at the end of the day like they were suppose to or middle of day to check on things. When they did come back, it was due to texts or phone calls showing poor quality and workmanship. Numerous "I'm sorry" and empty promises later, had to tell Five Star that it was time to part ways and would like my deposit refunded. This was four days after initial start date. *** The owner did promptly refund my deposit. The ironic ending was that they were very prompt picking up their remaining materials on job site. Within 45 minutes of firing them they returned to home to pick up materials. Wish they were that prompt at handling problems and returning a phone call. I did get a phone call back, but it took a lot longer than it should have, also given the corporate office had to get involved. As others have said, they talk a good game, but it gets old very quickly. Also learned, as another pointed out, that the workers that showed up to my site were subs and not "their workers or crews" as originally pitched in estimate meeting. Just a very bad experience and huge waste of time.

The problems started when they would never show up when they said they were going to. All in all, it took about six weeks to complete the entire job, which is way to long, as our project should have taken no more than 2-3 weeks. The constantly just sent one to two people to the job, which was half the reason it took so long. On top of that, they did a terrible job in terms of quality. They did not use drop clothes, and there was paint all over our new marble floors and hard wood floors. I ended up spending most of the day one weekend on my hands and knees cleaning the paint off the floors. As for the exterior of the home, it was even worse. They painted our windows and did not go back and clean all of them up where they had gotten paint on the glass. There was probably about 4-5 windows that we had to go back and scrape the paint off because they never taped them off in the first place and never went back to clean up their mess. All in all it was a long, painful experience with 5 Star and going back and forth with their manager, Richard was a joke. We complained about the final product and he did take $500 off the bill, however, that still left us with cleaning up the huge mess they left behind. I would not recommend 5 Star to anyone unless they want a headache when it comes to getting a job done in a timely, professional manner.

Bob come out initially and did our quote/estimate. He was quick to respond, very nice, and seemed to understand our needs, so I went with him for our project. As Tom said, he talked a good game. On the day they were supposed to start, we received an email that they were running late on another project and would not be out until the next day. The next day, they show up to start pressure washing and the pressure washer didn't work. The guy left and never showed back up again that day. The third day it rained a couple of drops and they said they couldn't do anything. So finally after waiting 4-5 days, they came out to complete the project. After pressure washing, stains were left running down the side of the house. Windows were not cleaned. The house actually looked worse after cleaning than before. I called and they came back to correct this. Then, for the painting, Bob initially said they would touch up trim and chipped places and make things "look great". None of this was done. The remaining paint was left with us to do for ourselves if we wanted. On our deck columns instead of cleaning and prepping first, they just painted over. There was actually a glob of pine sap or sticky spot on one column- just painted right over- now we have a big glob of painted sap. Lastly, we invested a lot of money on a concrete paint/stain that had a lifetime guarantee for our concrete deck. After the painting was completed, you could see roller marks. During the walk through, I asked Richard about these and he assured me they would dry up and go away. They did not. I called him back because he stated to me that "he doesn't run away". I could always call them back if I wasn't happy once it dried. Well, that's exactly what he did- run away. Cashed my check and never saw him again. Now we have a lifetime of roller marks on a very expensive concrete deck. Will never use them again and would not recommend to anyone.

It was an Angie's List deal... It was just ok... Every time I log in, I'm asked for a review, so I'm adding one. A bit of paint was on the door when they left, and the job was just ok... The experience has caused me to avoid Angie's List deals, although I still love the reviews aspect...

Fantastic! I called on a Groupon deal because I thought it would cost as much as it would for me to buy the supplies and do it myself. I hate painting so this was perfect! I called to make an appointment and Robert came out for the estimate. He was very professional and super nice. He rescues dogs and who doesn't appreciate that? :) He picked out the color that would perfect with a shower curtain I purchased He gave me the discount to buy my paint from Sherwin Williams. My painter, Hector, came out he was right ion time, quick and efficient. Richard Prosciutto came out at the beginning to go over the process and complete payment. Also incredibly nice! Needless to say my bathroom came out PERFECT! The color is beautiful! A+++++++ Don't forget to tip your painter!

I originally purchased two "paint 1 room for $99" deals from Five Star Painting through Angie's List. I contacted the office and was quickly scheduled for a review visit. There was a scheduling mix-up on their end and the review appointment was rescheduled for a few days later. The owner and estimator (Richard and Bob) both attended and were punctual, professional, and friendly. During our conversation, I mentioned some of our on-going remodeling projects in passing. The Five Star team offered to bring in a carpenter and provide me with an estimate for additional carpentry and painting services. A few days later, Bob and a carpenter (Jeremiah) came by and went over my wish-list in detail. It took over a week (and a phone call from me) to get the estimate back, but Bob answered my estimate-related questions quickly (even over the weekend) and the scope and fees were appropriate so my $198 "deal" morphed into a $5,800 project. And I couldn't be happier. The work was conducted in the kitchen/dining room, living room, and large hallway bisecting our house and took approximately a week and a half. Work was conducted generally between 9AM and 5PM, Monday through Friday, along with one full Saturday. The specific services are listed above. Everyone with Five Star was great to work with. Bob provided helpful advice on paint color choices. (A designer was available through Five Star if I wanted to delay the project longer to get an appointment with her - a service I declined.) Richard was happy to fulfill my request for low/no VOC paint due to the large area being painted and two small children in the house. Each additional team member who was brought into our house was introduced/accompanied by either Richard or Bob. Richard also stopped by the house on a regular basis to check on progress. Everyone was respectful and proficient at their particular trade. (Jeremiah, in particular, was responsive to my requests and flexible enough in his methodology to accommodate an old house's flaws, I mean, "character".) The carpentry, tiling and painting services were well-coordinated and the projects were completed without unnecessary delays. Measures were taken to protect my floors and furnishings during the work and the area was cleaned up at the end of each work day. I am very happy with the execution and results of my Five Star project(s). There's not much left in the house to paint but I will definitely call them again if the need arises.

They made me buy my own paint which cost more. First, they did not come in the correct date. The guy that came out to do the job did not apply on the coupon that they would do foyers. There was just a lot of confusion so he ended up painting the foyer and only gave it one coat. I wasn’t thrilled to death because all the confusion. There were a lot of difficulties.

We had purchased a big deal for the service. I was not terribly pleased with the quality of the work that they did. He was very nice, and very kind. I purchased the deal and I hired them for longer. This was the first time that I had hired painters, and I think I was naive, in how to approach it and handle it. They were very patient with me, but I ended up paying them an additional 1,800 Dollars, in addition to the paint, and I had to hire other painters to finish their work. The other painters came out and asked me if I had done the painting. They were appalled. They didn't do a good job. They kept telling me how rushed I was making them. They came on a Wednesday, and I wanted my 1800sq foot house in 4 days, but they couldn't get it done. They had 2 people everyday, and 3 people one day. I paid the dining room, and the laundry room myself. I didn't realize how much amount I had paid until the time the other painters came and did a good job. The deal is not a bad deal but the job was just bad. There is paint all over my floors, and all over my carpet. I had a carpet cleaner come in, and they said that they couldn't do anything about it. They were fairly responsive, they answered my phone calls and texts and stuff.

I purchased an Angie’s List Big Deal for this service and it was good. They did the work in three days and it was really quick and professional. There was really no follow up afterwards. I guess the foreman did not really come back out to talk to me. I really did not have any issues, but would like to have had a follow up with him.
