This business is unethical. They overcharged and overquoted for work at our business. They claimed $30k worth of repairs were needed and threatened building code violations etc. Numerous other electricians told us this was incorrect including the fire marshall. In addition they hassled and abused our accounting manager calling her before and after work. Stay away. Filing a complaint with BBB.

SCAMMERS! AVOID THIS COMPANY. Was quoted $95 hourly rate on the phone, and described the job in detail, providing my address. Electrician arrived and didn't have the parts needed to complete the job. Said he would have to charge us 2 hours labor in order to go back and get the parts needed. Electrician asked my husband to leave work and go get the parts needed. I called the office to talk about the lack of preparedness and was told they would discount the hourly rate (which she jacked up to $125) back down to the $95 I was originally quoted. They were counting on us moving forward due to a time crunch, but fortunately, we had some wiggle room in the schedule and sent these scammers packing.

I went on your website to find an electrician for a small job in my kitchen. Father and Son’s Electrical called me immediately and said that they could be out to my house for the repair the following morning. That initial contact was great and they were sensitive to the fact that I needed someone in a hurry. They told me that they would charge me $40 (they are running a special) for the visit and then $95 an hour. I was in agreement with that so we scheduled the visit for 7am the following morning (2/20/18). The electrician called me a bit after 7 to tell me he was running late. I was ok with that as there was heavy fog on the road and I told him to be careful and I would see him in a bit. He arrived a few minutes to 8 and by the time he got in the house for me to sign him in my kitchen clock said 8 am. He did a very good and thorough job and had everything working and was completed right at 10 am. I was happy that it only took the two hours and he brought everything to his truck and then brought me my bill which I paid and signed and he was on his way. The bill seemed high but the gentleman said that they would email me a receipt so because I was already an hour behind I knew I could review the bill details later in the day. I reviewed the bill that same afternoon and discovered that they had charged me for 3 hours of labor instead of the 2 that I thought they would. I initially did not think it was a big deal though and I called in to let them know that I thought there was an error. The first lady I spoke with was nice and said that they did not prorate the service time and that this was written in the contract. While I understand that concept I did not think for a minute that you could work for 1 minute into the hour and still get charged for the full hour. After speaking with her a bit she put a gentleman on the phone who I believe is the “Father” of Father and Son’s Electrical and he proceeded to be a bit aggressive with me about the time and that they have GPS and that they know exactly when he got there and when he was done. All I know is that he left my kitchen with the work done at 10am. I absolutely admit to signing the bill at maybe 10 minutes after 10 am but all of the work in my kitchen was done at 10. The “Father” continued to argue with me that his employee had worked after 10 and that I should have understood that he would be paid the full hour since that is in the contract. If this is true that you can work a few minutes into the hour and get paid for the full hour that is the worst pay policy I ever heard of. I know no industry where this is the standard. What worker would not slow down a bit when they are closing in on the hour and work a couple of minutes after so they can get paid for the full hour. This also puts the customer at a distinct disadvantage as we are completely at their mercy with absolutely no recourse except to stand in the dark in your house without electricity. It also occurred to me that although they were completely willing to charge me a full hour for a “minute or two after the hour” of work why am I not allowed to deduct the full hour that they were late to arrive at my house to perform the work? I absolutely do not blame the gentleman who came to my house as he did good work for me but fair is fair and whatever he did that I cannot validate after 10am is something that I am not willing to pay for. I also question you Angie's List if you would allow the businesses that you represent to charge customers for a full hour when they work a minute or two after the hour. Now the customer and the service person are not on equal footing in the performance of the service. They can work as slowly as they want to and you will have no recourse? If they charged for the quarter hour or even the half hour I would not like it but I could understand that. What I cannot understand is working for a couple of minutes and getting paid for the entire hour. I would like them to credit me the hour. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to talk to them again and I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want them to try and call to discuss this with me. I will not do business with them again based on the way I was spoken to by the owner who did not even try to let me speak and understand my point of view about this situation. Angie's List - I would also recommend that you tell the providers who are on your site that this practice of “not prorating” their service time is not a practice you will support as it takes complete advantage of your customer. As I said in the beginning the work done was done very well but if you are thinking about using this company you should make sure you monitor every minute and watch what your service person is doing every minute that they are in your residence as a 5 minute window can add $95 dollars to your bill!!!

Electricians arrived timely (I was late) but my spouse was home. Electrician tried to market whole house surge protector (Eaton) to my spouse who didn't know we already had one installed on the electrical panel mounted behind the panel cover which by the way was purchased through Angies List Good Deal from MI Electric out of Huntersville, NC in January 2013. It was not obvious that it was already installed. Irregardless, this was not in the scope of the work being performed by Fathers & Sons Electrical and should have not been brought up until I arrived home around Noon that day. I agree with Fathers & Sons Electricians that a Whole House Surge Protector is a good idea. It had been already been taken care of by me a year and six months earlier. Had I been interested, I would have inquired at the time their work was being performed.
Description of Work: I bought a deal for $99 for $200 of electrical services. 1. Installed two (2) digital LED Bulb friendly wall switch plate timers to replace manual switch which serviced front door entry and back door entry. Timers were purchased from Home Depot by me. 2. Replaced two (2) flood lights fixtures (front and rear of house) that are LED Bulb friendly. The fixtures were purchased from Lowes by me. One (1) fixture was installed on second floor soffit (overhang) which required an extension latter to reach. Worth noting, only one electrician was required for this task even-though Father's and Son's Electric Service required that two (2) electricians be dispatched for this service call. The reason given was that it was a second story install for one of the flood lamp fixtures. Maybe, they required two (2) electricians to load and unload ladders from roof of van. 3. Replaced two (2) surface mounted florescent fixtures in Bonus Room after removing existing fixtures. Existing fixtures had bad ballasts and were no longer functional. Two (2) surface mounted fixtures were acquired from Lowes by me. 4. Work required about 2-3 hours and total cost not including fixtures/wall timers supplied by me was approximately $600 well above the good deal price. Now, from a conversation with Father's & Son's dispatcher / owner in advance of the work, I knew it was going to cost more than the "Good Deal" due to the need for a second electrician.

We purchased for $99, $200 worth of electrical services from father and son electrical. They emailed us and told us there would be a $125 charge for driving to our house which leaves $75 for $200 worth of electrical services. For us, this place is unbelievably ridiculous and we will never ever contact them again. So, in essence, we would have ended up paying $99.00 for $75 worth of electrical services. The math just does not work out. Father and son sent an email saying they were no longer with Angie's list and to request a refund from Angie's list which we have done

If this person had researched the market prices for electricians in the Charlotte metro area. They would have realized that the normal service rates for the average quality electric service company is $125.00 service call and $125.00 per hour. Companies package the pricing in different ways, but we are all about the same when it is all said and done for the first hour. This is another reason we are no longer servicing Angie's members. Many give bad reviews without even using our company. They just trash your company in the reviews because they do not like the pricing. We have been in business for 34 years and provide quality 24 hour emergency services that must be appreciated. Some people must realize that you only get what you pay for in this world.

I purchased this deal to get a few small things done in my house and needed to leave town for a family emergency out of state, so I had not scheduled the service. I was dismayed to learn, after purchase, that there is a 125.00 service fee, so I would end up paying a lot for a small amt of work. I was thinking of cancelling for this reason, but before I could I received the email that this company was discontinuing their Angie's list association. Thanks for the refund!

I purchased the Big Deal, and was immediately contacted to schedule an appointment. My husband requested to work from home this day so he could be there during the 8-5 time frame. They called that morning to say the electrician had an emergency and would not be able to come out that day, but would be happy to reschedule. We could not reschedule at that time because we didn't have open availability during the week and they didn't work on weekends.

It is sad that some people do not understand the word "emergency". When we have an electrical emergency, a customer is having a problem that can create a threat to life and property. Homes catch on fire and burn down every day because of electrical fires. We at Father and Son Electric Service Co., Inc. have to place those situations as a high priority. We regret that we have to reschedule other jobs for the safety of others. I am shocked that this customer would be so self centered as to condemn us for providing quality emergency service to a family in need. It is sad that people do not have consideration for others. I pray God's Blessing upon this customer and unfortunately have to give him a "F" RATING as a human being. Ron Talerico, President/CEO Father and Son Electric Service Co., Inc.

Got the work scheduled right away that was only a few days out. Chris arrived on-time and did an excellent job. He worked really hard and did a professional job. My only complaint is the cost is higher than a number of other companies, so the "big deal" doesn't have as much impact as one might think. $125 just to show up and then $125 per hour to get the work done is not outlandish, but most of the electrical contractors I've worked with in the past have the service call $$$ count towards the first hour, then the hourly rate begins after that. That said, when he was done Chris said that repeat customers get a substantial price break, which would be welcome. Net is he did a great job, was very professional, and scheduling was not an issue - I just thought the cost was high since others seem to be able to do the job for less. With the repeat customer price break, it will probably fall in-line with everyone else. I would use them again.

I have purchased many "Big Deals" in the past and have been extremely satisfied as they truly were "big Deals". This one did not at all meet the criteria of "Big Deals". Charging the astronomical and unheard price of $125 just to come out and then followed up by $125/hour, was much like doubling the price of the service and giving you 50% discount. Sorry, I was not born last night.

I called and told them than I needed a fan outlet installed in the ceiling and a duel box to run the light and fan separately. He does a little bit of work. He drilled a hole in ceiling and hits a stud. He figured out he had to go to the store because he didn't have the wire to run the light and fan and a switch cover. The workmanship was good. The bill included a service charge. I called and talked to the owner. I asked about the service charge and he said it was because of gas. The service charge was the same as the hourly rate, of $85. He said he was going to deduct a hour half. I asked about the time about finding the stud. Everything I asked him he had a smart alec attitude. I will not them in the future.

Not too well. Had all the details been listed from this provider about the $200.00 of service for $99.00 I would not have purchased As a matter of fact, I have just done the work to cancel and get a refund. A trip charge of $125.00 along with a per hour labor charge of $125.00 is not such a great deal. While presented as a $101.00 discount from $200.00, I saw it as having only $75.00 to apply towards the actual work. This equates to 60% of the hourly charge and a mere 36 minutes of work before I would incur more charges. I have no problem with any provider and what they wish to charge as long as I know before hand. After speaking with an Angie's List representative, he mentioned that you can contact any service provider before making a final decision. Being new to Angie's List I did not think of this. I will in the future if there is one with "The Big Deal". My final thought is that all of this does not solely rest with the provider. I feel that Angie's List bears some responsibility as well. Had this information been listed in an easy to see and read format, I would have not proceeded further. I recommend that this be a part of any "Big Deal" in the future.

I ended up not having the service performed. They wanted to charge $125 just to come to my house, then another $125 an hour. For the first hour they would have been here it would have essentially been $250. They would have then credited the $99 I paid to the $250 one hours worth of work. I was not happy about the way the experience turned out.

I worked with Luis S. He was extremely courteous and called about an hour prior to arrival. He was on time, kind as can be, and thoroughly explained what he was doing and the parameters of the cost. He called on me a few times to approve that the work was completed to my specifications. He "hopped to it" and did not drag his feet, acknowledging that his hourly fees were high. I will call this company again and ask for Luis specifically if we need work done in the future.
Description of Work: Arrived to trouble-shoot a ceiling fan installed by my husband that wouldn't stop "clicking."
