DJ PAINTING

When I first contacted Doug, after seeing his advertisement on Craigslist, he was able to come to my home to give me an estimate the same day. He was very kind and provided a written estimate within 24 hours of our meeting. His price seemed very reasonable, as well as his 4-5 day timeline. He could also begin the work in a little over a week - which fit my timeline nicely. Overall the project ended up taking 10 full days of work - more than DOUBLE his estimated time. Some of the rooms in my home were done beautifully, however many rooms were left with flaws. In the upstairs of my home he ran into trouble with parts of the ceiling peeling after it was primed and painted. He ended up leaving many blemishes on the ceiling and even leaving a large spot of peeling paint. He also did not include painting the trim in the areas he painted the walls in home and left many drips of wall paint on the doors and trim. His organization of work was not well thought out. He spent nearly a week working only on my downstairs, leaving my furniture covered in plastic or stacked in different rooms the entire time, leaving the living room and kitchen unusable. He then moved upstairs and for the following five days I was unable to use either of my full bathrooms because he was working on them at the same time. I was forced to go to a relative's house to shower for nearly a week. Removing popcorn from ceilings is very messy and while at first I was impressed with his attempts to work in a clean way, I soon realized that was not the case. My personal vacuum cleaner needed to have all of its filters replaced because he used it to clean up after himself (without permission) and the dust from the ceiling clogged the entire thing. He also knew that I would eventually be replacing the vinyl floors in the downstairs areas of my house so he stopped using drop clothes as he painted the ceiling - letting white ceiling paint splatter all over my floors (which will not come off!). Without continuing to bash Doug, I will just say that I had a very unpleasant experience. I emailed him a lengthy list of my concerns a day after he was "finished" and had collected his final payment (it had taken me that long to put all my furniture back to where it belonged and realize all the issues). It's been over two weeks since then and he has made no effort to contact me and make things right.
