We were very happy with this project, design was great, quality of construction was excellent. Any minor issues that came up during the project were addressed quickly and very fairly. We literally got quotes from a dozen companies (long story) and became very familiar with different construction methods they were going to use, costs for updgrades (e.g. tile flooring) and overall interaction between us and different companies. Can certainly say we are very happy we picked Deckscapes.

Once we gave him a deposit Chip explained that it would be sometime after March 15th before they could start the project. We had our old deck and walkways (pressure treated wood) torn down starting on March 27. We now have a brand new Trex deck and walkways. They did a great job and it is wonderful. The project went very well. The project manager, Mick, was very patient with our many concerns and questions. The entire crew that worked on the deck was very good. I would recommend this company to anyone who is getting a deck or porch.
Description of Work: We met with Chip Thomas on January 28 to get a proposal for a new deck. Chip gave us several ideas and drew up a proposal shortly thereafter. He was on time and worked well with us. After hammering out several details, we gave him a deposit on February 3rd.

Deckscapes made this entire experience quite a positive one. We were provided with answers to all of our questions and great suggestions as well. Everyone with whom we interacted made this an outstanding experience..one of the best we have ever had with any home improvement job we have done over the past 40 yrs of homeownership (multiple homes in multiple states). First, their pricing was very competitive, materials were top notch and delivered exactly when promised. Work commenced when scheduled. The gentlemen who did the construction were a pure pleasure to have at our home. They could not be more polite or personable...and they worked--showed up early in the morning and worked in exceptionally hot weather ---- putting in a very full day. The job was completed within the promised time frame with perfect results. I highly recommend Deckscapes.. I know if you give them a try and make yourself clear, they will provide you with a top notch product at a reasonable price. No reason to worries when dealing with this company--NONE at all! I will not hesitate to use Deckscapes for future projects.
Description of Work: We contracted with Deckscapes of Pineville, NC for an addition of a deck to our home to modify an existing patio area.

From the very beginning Mick was a wonderful person to work with. He made helpful suggestions concerning materials and colors. Mick sent us to another job to make comparisons between materials. He checked with us regularly for a start date as we had the deck put on after we had a porch rebuilt. They started on time and finished on time. The crew that was at our home were polite and talented young men. Mick inspected regularly while the work was going on and refused final payment until all the staining of the lattice was complete. We could not be more pleased with the work done by Deckscapes. We interviewed four contractors before hiring Deckscapes and we can highly recommend them to others.

Deckscapes showed up on time to do the job. The work was was performed in a very professional manner at all times. They got there when they said they were coming, they were never late and never had any excuses. The quality of the work was above and beyond what we expected. Their prices were competitive. We feel that the quality of the product was above and beyond what we paid for. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting to build decks or other hardscapes .
Description of Work: Deckscapes built a deck with an attached pergola on the back of our house connected to the back porch and extending along the back of the house. The deck extended across the bay window of our breakfast room. We had Deckscapes design the deck to mimic the extension of the bay window and include a pergola at the far end of the deck. The design was drawn perfectly and the finished product is exact.

They met or exceeded our expectations in every way. We were not looking for the cheapest provider, but their pricing is very competitive, especially for the top-quality work they provided. We were careful to explain the design features we wanted, and used a lot of the photos on Deckscapes' webpage as examples of what we liked. The result was good communications - and no 'misunderstandings'. The open porch with gabled roof allows the daylight into the house, and helped us avoid turning the den into a dark room. We are delighted with the results, and the premium features they provided include electrical outlets, ceiling lights, installation of 2 fans, tongue-and-groove ceiling (it's stunning!), premium wood decking and wrought iron railings with a simple, clean & classic look. The lattice work is heavy, custom-built and includes an access door. There are a few photos of the porch on the Deckscapes facebook page which show the open design, railings and ceiling. We used Sherwin-Williams' Hawthorne semi-transparent stain on both the floor and ceiling.
Description of Work: Deckscapes removed our old deck and replaced it with a larger, open porch. Also added a small side porch and provided custom, heavy-duty lattice work around the bottom of the porch.

We chose to repair our wooden deck, since it was 10 years old. The original time quoted to do this job was 2 days which was a Thursday and Friday . It would be done in time for Labor Day weekend. However, this was not the case it wound up taking 5 different visits to complete the job. The quote process: Salesman was originally professional and timely with quote Tear down process: Quick and Clean. They probably could have stayed longer than 2 hours this day and got started since all the materials were delivered a day prior to this visit .However, they did not, leaving the whole project to be completed on day 2 since this was only a 2 day project per quote. Build Process: Installers ran out of lumber on day 2 and came back on Saturday of the Holiday weekend. They finished late afternoon on saturday and said they would build the gate and bring it back later. They came back with the gate and installed it the following week. Installers were friendly and hard workers. Quality: Upon inspection there were numerous boards they installed that had deep knots(holes) and cracks where screws were driven in leaving room for stubbed toes and lots of splinters. One of the rail board were extremely rough and splintering thtroughout a 12" stretch. Again splinters would be had by using the rail to hold onto to go up or down the stairs. . Repair Work: Company came out and replaced the numerous boards, however, there was still an issue identified with a replacement of the rail. The second rail had 2 indentions on the edge and was installed with screws. This did not match the way the other rail was installed.. The depth of the screws in this newly installed board were inconsistent and had some holes with no screw showing and some with screws showing - inconsistent depth. The second board also was not sanded on the end rounding out the edge like the opposite side board. This shows that this repair was not done to perfection but to just get it done the quickest way wether it was the right way or not. Paying Salesman: This is where the company completely gets the poor performance with how the salesman handled the situation with me pointing out some stairs I was not happy with (they replaced and put a center board in between the step because of the length of the 1st step) and the rail listed above. I was told that the rail was "perfect" with the 2 indentions and was told it was framing lumber. I was also told the fact that one rail had screws and the other rail had nails did not matter and if he was installing cabinets then I could complain "job was perfect". The fact that the screws were different depths, holes were showing and did not look like a finished surface. It looked like someone drilled a hole but did not fill it. Repeatedly I was told that I was wrong and " the customer is not always right". He also stated that he did replace the other boards (so I should be thankful they replaced bad boards that were installed in poor taste to begin with - my frustrated comment). I told him I was going to get the check and pay (I was done with him) and he made the comment "don't pay him and he would put a lien on the property". I never said I would not pay him, he brought this up. Maybe he has has other unsatisfied cutomers in the past that refused to pay him that he was quick with this comment to me. He did offer me a $200 credit. It wasnt the price of the job that was questionble it was the job itself that was not satisfactory to "the Customer" . I told him I did not want the credit and to keep the money. A credit wasn't going to fix the imperfections . All I want is a finished deck with out the holes and minor imperfections that i feel as a consumer I am entitled to.as he walked away he was still clinging to the" Customer is not always right , you're wrong." since nothing was going to be resolved , I asked him to get off my propery. It was clear there was not going to be any reconcilliation. This transaction started out great and unfortunately it did not end that way. When a customer hires you to do a job that they have requested then they are going to have the final say since it is their plans that the builder was building for them. So yes the customer would be right!!

Chip came out and we discussed what we wanted done. He was on time, polite, and professional. We had gotten a few other quotes and Deckscapes's price was the best. We had reviewed their website and was impressed with all of their projects. Work was scheduled and the crew came out on time, and they were also polite. Mick stopped by periodically to check on the crew and project. The crew worked quickly even though it was extremely hot and muggy and our back yard was full of biting insects. Once the deck was complete, there were two changes we wanted to make. I called Mick and we discussed the modifications. I was impressed with Mick's concern and he said they would gladly do whatever needed to be done to be sure we were completely satisfied. Chip even called expressing concern and he even stopped by after the modifications were done to be sure we were happy. To us, that is number one customer service. We have already referred our neighbors to Deckscapes and we are having them quote another project for us. We are very satisfied and we would definitely hire them agan.

It took 2 calls to get them to respond and come out. I got my estimate and planned to use them. I had to get approval for the project from our HOA first. That took 6 weeks. The first week of January I received my approval and called back John and said I was ready to start. It took several emails and calls and 4 weeks later he came out to discuss the final details. He said he would call me the next day with a schedule for the shipping of materials. The next week I still hadn't heard from him so I started e-mailing. After several days I started calling and got the answering machine. Several days later I got a call from the secretary saying that John had been busy but would call me the next day. I never heard from him again.

We got a few estimates from Angie's List providers, but Deckscapes was the only one who said they could give us everything that we wanted. For example, other providers said we couldn't have a gabled roof - Deckscapes said no problem. Other providers said it would not be possible to have a 2-way fireplace - Deckscapes figured it out. Our final cost may look high, but I think it was comparable once you took into account all the bells and whistles we added. They include the 2-way fireplace, stone veneer hearth to the ceiling, siding replaced with hardie board and painted, painted beadboard ceiling with 2 ceiling fans, composite floors, all-weather vinyl windows and screens, and wiring for TV and sound. The patio has a large seat wall and firepit. In addition, at the last minute we asked them to remove a portion of the siding in the front and replace it with stone veneer. Although the process was not free of bumps (mostly due to subcontractor error), we found Mick to be very professional and diligent about following up on any issues. He was refreshingly responsive and easy to reach by phone or text. The final product is AMAZING. We love it and have no regrets.

The finished product is beautiful. Unfortunately, getting the job completed was difficult. Our job started with the fireplace build and there was not a meeting between Deckscapes, the mason and us. The mason did not seem to understand the design and details expected so the fireplace was built and rebuilt. We learned that the mason was having medical problems so he was not really able to handle this job. Deckscapes reacted very well to complete the job with a beautiful product but I wish they had been more proactive rather than reactive to save time and frustration in the building process. Our 3-4 week job ended up taking 2 months to complete. Overall the scheduling process and workers showing up unscheduled was handled poorly but the quality of the finished product is very good.

these guys were great. mick was out multiple times to see the site and discuss our plans before going ahead with the project. he even came up with an idea we had not thought of which is what we ultimately went with. they worked with me on price, the guys were friendly and did great work. scott made sure we were happy with every little bit and even adjusted a couple of things near the end because i am so anal. all without any complaints or upcharges. they left the worksite spotless after they finished too- and they finished in the time they said they would. very, very professional. mick came out a few days after completion to inspect again and make sure we were fully satisfied- which we are! we love the new space and use it all the time. have since referred them to a friend as well. highly recommended.

I first contacted this company 06/29/12, it took them until July 13 to send me the proposal/estimate. They never followed up. I had to call the office regarding receiving the proposal and the receptionist was very unfriendly. I called after receiving the proposal and they have not followed up as of today. I called Deckscapes for someone to come out to home to give an estimate for deck/patio design. Deckscapes Design/Sales associate arrived on December 29th to give a free estimate of work and suggestion of design ideas for deck/patio. Even though the Design/Sales associate appeared to be annoyed being at the site doing this estimate, he did give good feedback and possible design solutions. At the end of consultation, the sales associate asked for email and no other contact information and said he would have an estimate and design plan sent to me in email the next day. He then went on to say that he did not have any business cards with him and did not offer up any of his contact information. It has been nine days since the day of the consultation and no contact has been made about the estimate from Deckscapes and the Design/Sales associate.

The estimate was quick and very reasonable. They worked with us patiently to pick colors for the decking, trim, and balusters that matched the brick on our home. They came to do the work when they said they would. The men who did the work were courteous, professional, neat, and skillful. They seemed to take pride in doing a very good job. Our stairs flare out and they worked very hard to be sure the angles were correct. They removed the trash promptly. Additionally, they worked quietly without blaring music. We would not hesitate to recommend them.
Description of Work: Deckscapes removed our existing wooden deck, rails and stairs. They re-decked our existing frame with Azek decking and trim . They rebuilt the stairs into the yard using Azek decking and trim. All the wooden balusters were replaced with bronze aluminum ballusters. They wrapped the outer exposed framing with Azek trim boards. They removed all trash from the site.

This project was a pleasure from beginning to end. The estimate was performed on schedule and we received a highly detailed quote for the project within a few days. We had about four estimates done for the same project. Deckscapes stood out above the others, not only in price but in the professionalism that was apparent from the beginning. We are extremely happy with the work that was performed by Deckscapes and have every confidence that should a problem arise that they wouldn't hesitate to take care of the issue. The screened-in patio looks like it was part of the original construction of our house. We have enjoyed countless hours out there already and are looking forward to many, many more.

They had quoted me $27,000 for the job. He was confident that he could correct the areas of problem. He also, gave some valuable advice and suggestions. The only drawback was that I had to follow up for the estimate, but he apologized for the same as he was busy. Then I emailed him saying I will be going ahead with another company, but received no response for the same. I may consider using his services in the future.

We could not be happier with the work done by Deckscapes. They removed the old deck and built the porch in the estimated time frame. They worked with us and made the railing the way we wanted it. The project manager had never done one with vertical rails, but when he was finished you would not have know that, because they were perfect. There are many small things that were done that really classed up the build. Things they didn?t have to do, but they did and it shows.

I am the host and producer of the For Your Home show on PBS. Mick Feduniec was our contractor, designer and installer for a new deck on a viewer's home. Mick was great to work with. He developed a great new deck design that met the homeowners needs while allowing us to re-use some of the existing frame work. This saved the homeowner money and reduced the waste that would have gone to a landfill. Mick and his team worked efficiently and professionally to get the job done on time and on budget. The work was tough because the temperatures exceeded 100 degrees for the entire week. You can watch Mick and his crew build this deck on by clicking visiting the For Your Home web site at www.foryourhome.com and clicking on show #2702.

The first thing they had to do was removed the old deck and while doing so, they left nails and debris in my driveway and never bothered to cleanup. I had to do it myself. They never had any supervision or someone checking on them to ensure quality. I also feel they did inferior work on the installation of the new deck; I called them to complain about the way the deck looked and they just wanted me to deal with it. Finally i was able to get the owner to look at the deck and he agreed with me. They wanted to just replace the whole thing again but I was reluctant because of the problem I had with them during the 1st go around. I have made attempts to contact them and they are bad about returning my calls and have lousy customer service. I felt like I should of received some sort of price reduction because of the poor workmanship! I would not recommend them to anyone!
Description of Work: I hired them to replace my deck and railing, plus replace a rubber roof. We had set up a start date a month and a half from when we wanted to start but they ended up starting a week late without and notification to us.

We initially worked with Art on a bid. He was very helpful in coming up with a design based on our vision and worked with me as we adjusted the plan, always updating the quote as changes were made. I then asked to meet with the owner as I wanted to get an impression of him before signing the contract. Although there were a few delays in the project start date (approx. 1.5 weeks due to weather and then one of their workers getting injured), the deck is now complete and looks amazing. They did a great job and I would definitely use them again. They were very upfront with all aspects, even refusing to paint the project because they had problems in the past with reliable subcontractors. So I was very appreciative that they wouldn't just take my money to paint (hoping that their sub performed). I ended up painting myself which wasn't really a big deal since most of the deck was composite.
Description of Work: We had a composite deck built off the back of our house that included decorator pickets (aluminum). We also had an existing enclosed patio screened-in. I received bids from three contractors and went with Deckscapes.
