Over all poor at best and the sad part is the owners don't even care, that's what bothers me. I have since replaced the cornices so I don't intend to deal with them just spread the word.
Description of Work: We needed our roof replaced and in the beginning they were very helpful. they helped with the insurance procedures as well as showing up at the time when the insurance adjuster was there to inspect. But when the time came to perform they came in force must have been 10 or so people of Mexican heritage. The day was hot so they whipped the the new roof by stripping the old roofing first (3 layers) then the new roof. They were done by 9:30pm that day. Now the bad stuff, they missed the cornices (6) to be exact plus the ridge vent and the flashing at the chimney was poorly done at best. They came out agreed they need to fix and maybe a day later they came out and fixed everything and from the ground looking up it looked good. I paid them but not after they didn't come back with a bill, they called me and basically made me feel like I was skipping out of paying them. Now maybe a month later I needed to clean the gutters and went up on a ladder and saw the cornices they had just roofed right over the old shingles and part of the contract was they were suppose to remove the old first. I called them they said they would come out and never did. I sent an email telling them it was all (6) cornices with pictures plus I said it was a poor job. They must have been offended so they just decided to ignore me. It's been several months now and not even a phone call. Now I'm worried how the rest of the job is you know the stuff that an untrained eye would miss.

Response from D.D. Quinn & Sons Roofing
We were scheduled to start on the homeowner’s house in May 29th. Due to severe thunderstorms, we rescheduled for Thursday, June 2nd. Since we were removing 3 layers of shingles (most houses have one), we scheduled (2) 5-man crews so we could finish major repairs in one day. The crews finished major repairs at around 9pm that evening. They very next day, Friday, June 3rd, I met with the homeowner and did my walk-around to ensure quality of work. I also explained that major repairs were now done and we would concentrate on the punch list of items to complete the job. The homeowner indicated a few small areas that he thought needed touch up work (1 piece of flashing, 2 missed cornices due to the late finish and a few leftover nails left) and ridge vent concern. I indicated we would address all areas within 72 hours. On Saturday, June 4th, our crew finished all areas documented by the customer. I placed a call with the homeowner and he said everything looked great and he was happy with how it turned out. On Monday June 6th, we mailed our invoice requesting full payment, as our policy is to not take any payments until the job is complete. On June 28th, I placed a collection call with the homeowner stating that we had not been paid and that I would stop by that evening to pick up the check. We agreed to meet that evening. I asked the homeowner if he had any other concerns and he remitted payment in full. He then mentioned that he didn’t receive an invoice. When I asked him why he didn’t call, he stated that he wanted to see if we would try to collect payment. On August 16th, I had a conversation with the customer about the cornices. I mentioned that I could come out within 48 hours and take a look at his further concerns. The customer indicated that there had been no leaks in the cornice areas or in any other area around his home. Later that evening, homeowner emailed pictures of his concerns and commented that in his opinion, we did a poor job. After reviewing the areas, it was determined that these new concerns were cosmetic in nature. Our master roofer determined that there were areas on the cornices were the 3 layers had fused together or to the fascia, making removal difficult without possibly damaging the fascia or siding on the home. This is a pre-existing condition with the home (3 layers) and is spelled out in our contract that liability for these areas is the homeowner’s responsibility. Our standard contract states that no fascia work is included in the contract and that if fascia work is done, it will be billed separately. In an effort to limit the homeowner’s out of pocket costs the roofer made aesthetic allowances to the cornice areas that are not seen at ground level. The homeowner stated that these aesthetic allowances are not seen unless up close at eye level. These allowances are consistent with standard roofing procedures and in no way did it compromise the integrity of the roof. The customer nowhere states where there has been a leak to this area. On August 18th, the customer was sent a letter with these findings, along with a quote for removing the fascia and pre-existing fused material. We would cover the roofing material cost to replace the shingles on the cornices. To date, we haven’t received a response. We understand that no two houses are the same. We attempted to complete the job in a workmanlike manner by installing quality shingles, making sure the roof did not leak and by addressing pre-existing conditions according to roofing code. I believe we addressed each of customers concerns in a timely manner and addressed the concerns as contractual bound. Unfortunately, the homeowner feels differently. Lastly, I am offended that the homeowner would bring “Mexican heritage” into his complaint. We use only licensed and insured subs, when we are overbooked with jobs. We require that these subs list us as an additional insured to protect the homeowner and we pre-screen all subs before work is done at a home to limit our liability. We follow all federal residency requirements as required by law. Our company believes that you shouldn’t judge a person by the color of their skin and it says more about someone who does.
