There are not enough words to describe how professional this company is and the A-1 quality of our awning materials & installation. We had both a stationary fabric awning & retractable fabric awning installed. Following initial contact with the company, the company president, Gary Westlund, came to our house and gave use a thorough description of their products, including photo examples and fabric samples. His professionalism immediately convinced us to go with his designs. Following one test fit of the awning frame, the awning fabrication was completed in a timely manner. We also can not say enough about the great two-man installation team of Bek and Rae. They were so knowledgeable and skillful in the installation of both our awnings; it was a pleasure to watch. We were amazed that the intricate aluminum stationary frame fit our house and roof like a glove; a perfect fit! Plus, Bek & Rae deserve much praise for their installation skills. We are extremely happy with our new awnings, which have essentially provided another room to our house, shading us from the hot summer sun. We would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a quality and solidly built awning or canopy

From the start everything went quite well. They came for the quote and measurements. I was looking for an awing or a flat an top for my patio. The quotes came in very competitive. I chosen them because of price and the size of the pan. They actually measured a cut out for my kitchen nook that nobody else took into consideration. I actually got a little larger top by them doing that. The installation went very well. They arrived when they said they would. They have no problems installing the top. Took them about 5hrs total in and out and they were gone.

Description of Work: 21'8" x 10' retractable awning purchased for our patio area - $3415. Installation was on/about 11/20/2012. Wind sensor added to the awning approx. 4/17/2013 - $280. On 4/22/2013.a perfectly calm beautiful day, we rolled out the awning. Within 30 min the wind sensor activated the retracting process & before it completed the awning flipped up and onto the roof, breaking the support arms & burning out the motor. It also broke the satellite dish on the roof. Charlotte Tent & Awning's owner stated we should be under the awning any time it is rolled out. In this instance, if we had been, we could have been injured by the falling support arms. Charlotte Tent & Awning sent a representative to evaluate the damage. Subsequent response from the owner is that his company bears no responsibility/liability for the incident & that we should "junk" the entire awning & start over. In essence, $3700 is "down the tube." We have since tried to reach the owner by phone to get some questions answered (such as possibility of repair), but he has not shown the courtesy of a return call. We have met with another awning company owner for his assessment & for opinion on how to move forward. He is familiar with Charlotte Tent & Awning's products & work. He further stated the awning sold to us is at the bottom of Charlotte Tent & Awning's product list, & that an awning with stronger support arms probably would have withstood the minor wind that supposedly caused the problem. He determined that the motor is working, however the support arms and front crossbar need to be replaced. Rather than "ditch" the entire $3700 project, we have elected to contract with this company to do the repairs.

The awning sold to the consumer is indeed a high end product which is manufactured right here in the US by one of the leading companies in the awning industry. Retractable awnings are designed for usage on calm weather days only and when the homeowner is present. There is no manufacturer in the industry that would recommend or provide a warranty in windy conditions. The awning broke during a severe gust of wind, and was not the result of any defect in workmanship, quality or installation. In fact, the BBB has already looked into this and found no fault with the product nor with Charlotte Tent & Awning Company and has closed the case file. The consumer was never told he had to "junk" the awning and start over. It was simply recommended to him that his homeowner's insurance company might be able to help him with the cost if he replaced the awning. The consumer was given an option to have the awning repaired, but he rejected this option also.

We are EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.
Description of Work: Charlotte Tent & Awning installed an awning over our porch (I believe Sunbrella brand) for our contractor in the fall of 2003. By Spring 2008 it was rotten. Never having purchased an awning prior to this one I didn't have any expectations on how long it should last. In the spring of 2008 we hired Charlotte Tent & Awningto replace our original awning. No mention was made that Sunbrella has a 5 year warranty on their product. Charlotte Tent & Awning charged us $1,400 for our new Sunbrella awning. It is now four (4) years later, and our awning is rotten. Several calls have been placed (which were followed by 2 visits and no progress) and $200 more have been spent. Finally, the representative from Charlotte Tent & Awning called me to say that they could not do work on our awning, and I may or may not be entitled to any refund. Again, no mention of 5 year warranty on our product. I only discovered the warranty when researching product yesterday. At this point, I am extremely disappointed with Charlotte Tent & Awning, and I would caution you if you are considering their services.

The customer's awning fabric did not fail. The problem was a result of the framework structure that he provided us to work with (it was not originally built by our company). Fabric was attached by the only means possible, and when the customre did not maintain it properly, it became loose. When our attempts to re-fasten the fabric proved unsuccessful, we immediately refunded the $200 service call fees. The awning is now simply nearing the end of it's normal life span for this type of structure. As a show of good faith, we even offered the customer a discount on a replacement, but his demand was for a full refund (after having enjoyed the awning for nearly 5 years). The BBB has since concluded that Charlotte Tent & Awning Company did indeed make a good faith attempt to resolve the issue and has closed the case file.

Very well. The initial awning we ordered did not fully shield the porch and did not meet our needs of covering the porch from strong late day sun. The company worked with us to replace with a much larger awning that fully covers the porch and reduces the temperature by at least 15 degrees. The replacement awning was installed in just under two weeks from the first installation all while the entire company was on a week vacation. All staff that came to our home or who we dealt with on the phone were timely, courteous and very professional. Charlotte Tent and Awning Company really shows they want the customer to be pleased from start to finish and made sure we were.

I contacted this company for an estimate because they sold the previous owner of my home the old awning. A salesperson came to my house the following week and showed me samples of shapes, sizes and colors available for order. He took measurements and helped me make a decision on style and color. He was able to give me an estimate that day and I ordered a new awning. It took several weeks (4-6) before my order was ready. When it did arrive, he called and scheduled a time to deliver and install the following week. On the installation date, he arrived on time and was able to complete the work in about an hour. I am very pleased with the new awning. The order process was simple and convenient - I didn't even have to leave my house. It was a positive experience.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate to replace my awning with a new one I selected from samples I was shown by the salesperson. Placed my order for the new awning. Took down and disposed of the old awning and installed the new awning.

Estimator came as scheduled, measured and indicated frame was in good condition and did not need to be changed. Gave estimate which was accepted with 1/2 deposit. Learned from neighbor that someone else returned to re-measure. Awning was installed when no one was at home. It was ill-fitting and smeared with dirt. Supervisor inspected it and said it was fine. After another complaint, another supervisor came and said it was not and would be adjusted. Again, crew came and replaced awning when no one was at home. It still fits imperfectly and company apparently does not care.

THE WORKMAN WAS THE SAME PERSON WHO ORIGINALLY INSTALLED THE AWNING. HE STARTED ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, THE DAY AFTER I CALLED THE COMPANY. HE WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE WORK, BUT RETURNED TUESDAY AND SATISFACTORILY COMPLETED THE JOB. MONDAY WAS MEMORIAL DAY, SO TUESDAY WAS THE NEXT WORK DAY FOLLOWING THE START OF THE JOB ON FRIDAY. HE WAS POLITE AND PATIENT, EVEN THOUGH HE RAN INTO DIFFICULTY OVER THE CRAMPED SPACE AVAILABLE AFTER THE NEW GUTTER COVERS HAD BEEN INSTALLED. AMOUNT OF THE BILL IS ESTIMATED AS I HAVE NOT YET BEEN BILLED

I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET AN ESTIMATE FOR AN AWNING. THE GENTLEMAN CAME AS REQUESTED, ON TIME, TOOK MEASUREMENTS, SEEMED VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. HE SAID HE WOULD EMAIL AN ESTIMATE TO ME. I WAITED A WEEK, THEN CALLED THE COMPANY. THE GENTLEMAN WHO ANSWERED WAS VERY POLITE, SEEMED CONCERNED, SAID HE WOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH THE SALESMAN AND CALL ME BACK. HE CALLED RIGHT BACK, SAID I'D HAVE AN ANSWER IN A COUPLE OF HOURS. I CHECKED MY EMAIL LATER AND SURE ENOUGH, I HAD AN ESTIMATE. BUT HE DID NOT FOLLOW UP BY PHONE AND I DIDN'T CALL HIM AGAIN. IF I'M GOING TO SPEND $2000, I'D LIKE THE SALESPERSON TO EXPRESS MORE INTEREST.

VERY GOOD. RESPONSIVE. DID NICE JOB. WHEN JOB WAS COMPLETED ONE FASTENER WAS OMITTED. I LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE AND IT WAS REPAIRED IN 24 HOURS. WOULD WORK WITH THEM AGAIN. ALSO, WHEN THEY CAME TO ESTIMATE, THE AWNING FRAME WAS NOT AFFIXED TO THE BUILDING PROPERLY. THEY DID A TEMPORARY REPAIR ON THE SPOT AT NO CHARGE TO ENSURE THAT THE AWNING WOULD NOT FALL. ANYTIME ANYONE DOES SOMETHING HELPFUL WITHOUT BEING ASKED, I GIVE THEM BONUS POINTS. I ALWAYS TELL COMPANIES I GOT THEIR NAME FROM ANGIE'S LIST AND BELIEVE THAT HELPS GET THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE, SINCE THEY KNOW THEY MIGHT BE RATED. FYI, BECAUSE I WAS IN A RUSH AND THE PRICE SEEMED OK, I DID NOT GET A COMPETITIVE QUOTE.

I CALLED TO ORDER NEW FABRIC AND CHARLOTTE TENT AND AWNING WAS ABLE TO PULL UP THE ORIGINAL ORDER FROM 10 YEARS + AGO TO GET THE MEASUREMENTS. THEN THEY MAILED A CONTRACT WITH FABRIC SAMPLES. I SENT THE SIGNED CONTRACT BACK WITH MY FABRIC CHOICE AND ONE DAY LATER THE AWNING WAS UP. IT WAS THE EASIEST PROCESS!

THE AWNING WAS READY ONE WEEK EARLIER THAN THEIR ESTIMATE. THE TIME WAS LENGTHENED BECAUSE THE COMPANY CLOSES THE WEEK OF JULY 4. THE AWNING WAS INSTALLED JULY 26. THAT NIGHT, IT RAINED HEAVILY AND WATER POOLED ON THE AWNING. I CALLED ON JULY 27, AS ONE SIDE HAD SLIPPED LOWER. IT WAS REPAIRED IN ABOUT TWO HOURS AND I THEN LEARNED IT IS BEST TO RETRACT IT IF RAIN IS EXPECTED. THE WORKERS WERE POLITE AND DID NOT WASTE TIME. A BROKEN PART IN THEIR MATERIALS WAS ALSO REPLACED ON JULY 27.
