I have used this company for over a year now. At first the service was good and fair. They charged $50 per visit bi-weekly and chemicals were marked up, but not unreasonable. Then apparently the company was sold. The once per month rate went from $60 per month last year to $75 in the Fall and then when I questioned the increase Jessica Ratcliffe the Office Manager stated that it was actually going to go up to $85 per visit. I checked with my next door neighbor and she was still being charged $40 per bi-weekly visit and her costs had never gone up. Then I just received a price quote from them via email and the once per month charge was listed as $95! Below is the quote copied and pasted from the email I received today. This company does not charge the same amount to all clients. I do not trust them and would not use them. AGREEMENT START DATE: 1/6/16 IN-SEASON SERVICE: WEEKLY SERVICE RATE: $ 45 BI-WEEKLY SERVICE RATE: $ 55 MONTHLY SERVICE RATE: $ 95 NOTE: In order to properly schedule the opening/closing of your pool please schedule service (3) weeks in advance. *In-season starts mid-April ? mid-May and ends Labor Day. Off-season starts when all leaves have fallen from the trees and have been cleared from the area NOTE: Initial service visit is a $95 charge. In order to be put on the schedule for routine service the pool must be balanced and clear. This may take multiple visits at $95 per visit. (This does not include chemicals) This initial charge still applies if pool is perfect upon our arrival of your first visit. Any service that requires a visit of more than (1) hour will be charged $95 per hour due to work required on the pool, prorated in 15 minute increments. (I.E. 1hr 15 mins of service would be $118.75)

After starting my weekly service, they billed me $700 for chemicals, when I already had them in my pool storage closet. Then, they "repaired" a crack in my pump housing (for $200), after which the pump started regularly cavitating. They stated that it was my fault because the water level was "always" too low...apparently adding water isn't part of the service. However, I also know that the cavitation was happening even when the water level was fine. Eventually the pump motor seized. They wanted to rebuild the motor for another $400. After having them perform my weekly service all summer, I went to another provider who installed a brand new pump with a three year warranty for $700. Do Not Use This Company!!
Description of Work: I had contacted them when my pool liner had "floated". The owner quoted me a good price over the phone, and then, in his own words, told me that he had "lost his shirt" on the job. Well, he more than made up for that!

Pleasant at the beginning and gave an estimate within 10% of other companies. When I asked questions about exactly which equipment was to be installed and the various costs for equipment he became somewhat angry. It seemed he had his way he wanted to the install and would not break out costs nor explain the details. He was not up to date on the installation of certain pumps and the interface with newer automation. I chose not to use the services.

Jeff's quote on service was roughly the same as two competitors, but CPS's rates for chemistry and supplies were lower. I pay $40 a week during the summer, and cut back to fortnightly service from November through April. They are regular as clockwork, always professional, clean the pool and pool area, backwash the filtration system if needed, check and adjust chlorine levels, clean the skimmer basket, check the hoses on the Polaris unit, and in general do everything I need to keep my pool healthy. When I had questions on the pros and cons of winterizing my pool and re-opening it in the spring, I got to speak with Steve, the senior specialist on pool hardware, and he carefully listed the advantages, disadvantages, and costs. Great help, and allowed me to make my own decision. One of the great features they offer is digital service records and billing. As they leave from a service call, they send an email from their truck with a digital service call record detailing everything they did that day, so i have a permanent and easily searchable record of every service on my pool. I've been using them since last summer, and I plan to use them on an ongoing basis for the foreseeable future. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I moved to Charlotte in August 2014, and immediately starting looking for a pool services company to maintain the chemistry, systems, and general health of my in-ground pool. Two people at UNC-Charlotte recommended Carolina Pool Services (CPS), so I called for an estimate for weekly or fortnightly service. The head of the company, Jeff Crowley, came out to my place, looked at my pool, and it turns out they had installed a new pump system there two years prior.

Not as I would have expected. Was pleased at first at the diagnosis, but my opinion started to fade when the equipment was not checked and he had to make subsequent visits which if they were more thorough would have been unnecessary. Finally, a quote for another part was asked for and never given. My impression was that this company believed their errors made ME a difficult client. I do no recommend this company.

This customers house was up for sale and the minimum requirements were done to get the pool up and running correctly. There were 2 more visits performed at this residence, at no extra charge, to diagnois the issue. It lead back to a bad controller interfering with the functionality of the board. This bad controller was removed from the system and a verbal quote was given to the customer for its' replacement, with no reply.
