We scheduled an appointment window with a technician from 9:30am to 11am on Saturday. We were promised as early in that window as possible due to a conflict we had at 10:30am. The high on Saturday was 96 degrees. We waited in the scorching hot home until 5:30pm and no technician ever came despite multiple calls to the office, and emergency service lines. We also missed the event that we paid for tickets to go to. We still have not received a call or an explanation for the no call no show and because we waited all day, no other company could get out to help us. Now we won't have AC until Monday afternoon at the earliest..during the hottest weekend of the year so far. Completely unacceptable and rude.

I used this company several times over a period of a few years. They installed a new HVAC unit at my house. The unit has broken down at least once per summer ever since it was installed. Last summer it broke down 3 times. B&E no longer returns phone calls at all and none of the repairs were covered by a warranty. I had to hire two different companies last summer to do repairs. This "new" AC unit that was installed at a good price, has cost me over 10k in the last 5 years.

I've been very pleased. Actually one time I even had raccoons come in and mess up some of our heating and air conditioning stuff and they came in and dealt with that issue and got it working again. They had chewed through some of the insulation and got into the furnace itself in the summer.

I've had consistently positive experiences with B&E over the last four years and I highly recommend them. I have a regular maintenance contract with them. In April 2012 they installed a new HVAC system for us, for a very reasonable price, and it worked great. However, because it was just a single system with no zoning (as per the original house design) we found that upstairs would end up much warmer than downstairs in the winter. Also, the air would get very dry because of the heating. So we asked B&E to add zoning to the system and to install a humidifier as well. They were able to do the upgrade in one day, with minimal disruption, and for a very competitive price (because it was off-season). The zoning works extremely well (two thermostats: one upstairs, one downstairs). There were some snags in getting the humidifier to work correctly, which required a series of follow-up visits, but they stuck with it until I was satisfied that the problems were fixed (and there was no additional charges for the many hours of extra work they put into it). All of the B&E employees we've dealt with have been friendly, professional, diligent, and committed to complete customer satisfaction. I also appreciated the fact that they took the time to explain the work they were doing and they were very open to input from the customer.

The technician who came to check the air conditioning for the year, was up in my attic, and came across a stinky, dead squirrel up in my attic, and my wife had gloves in the garage, and he graciously took care of it, and removed it. I can't speak highly of them, they are the greatest. I found them on Angie's List. They do great work, and I really appreciate their work.

I can't speak highly of them. They are just the best. We had to have both our air conditioning replaced and the furnace replaced. I have a service contract with them, they come out and check my air conditioners, and then come out and check my heaters.

I purchased system from B&E in July 2013. I went with B&E because of the 3 estimates they were almost the lowest, but it was a better system(a Trane). The system installation went great! The staff have always been friendly and courteous. Recently I was having a problems with the system not cooling as it should have been. Come to find out after some diagnostics, it was a leak that had developed in the coil line. Fortunately, the equipment was under warranty. The repair was done quickly. Shane is great to work with you and very professional while Dawn(who works in the office) is very pleasant. I look forward to a continued and long term relationship with this company.

The service guy was great. He was on time and answered all my questions. He reviewed finding of both units. He explained that one unit was older and may need to be replaced sooner and why in terms that I could understand. He gave me information on new units and reviewed the differences between models. There was no pressure or push to replace my unit - just information. My air conditioner and heat have been working great. This review is late so I could use my units through both seasons and give accurate and through information.

The installation took most of the day and they did have to leave a couple times during installation. After they left we noticed the house was not getting warm, even though the thermostat showed it was on heat. We called and they came right back and found that the heat and air were switched. They fixed it and the house warmed up. Then around the end of February the unit started making a loud noise whenever it came on. I called and they sent someone out, but I didn't have time to get home from work and my son was there. They apparently thought I had a problem with the unit outside and did not check the inside unit. I called them back and told them it was the inside unit and I wanted to be there when they came out. They called the next and gave me enough time to get home. We turned the unit on and they heard the noise, found the problem and said that I needed a new motor - that it was a new Trane unit and they should have them in stock. They would check and let me know when they could install the new motor and told me that it was okay to run the unit, if I could put up with the noise. I was afraid to use it not knowing if I was doing more damage or not. They called the next day, said they had the new motor and that they would be out that afternoon. They showed up when they said they would, replaced the motor and things are running great again.

This happen in my opinion because Trane, Carrier, and all of the people that make the furnace, Coils, AC units buy there parts from China, Mexico, and third world country's If it was made in the USA small stuff like this would not happen. B&E hires only US citizens. We drug test. We have a lab and work room at the office to train our installers and Tech's to do the best job. So we can overcome a motor that is not balanced. Just like my New Ford Truck the Chip in the Key would not sink with the truck so it would not start. More China cheap parts. But i will say thank your for your business. We want you to get on our Service Maintenance Plan. Called the PPSA B&E comes out 2 time a year to keep the equipment working they way it should for many years to come. Sorry that you feel that 2 trips to your house and give you service first before non-service contract customers and no overtime charge on Sat and Sunday calls Is not worth the $179.00 per year. We have not changed our Service Contract price in 10 years. It should be about $100.00 more per year. It cost $7000.00 more today then 10 years ago for a New Truck. Gas is up from 10 years ago. We haft to pay our service Tech's More then 10 years ago. Our Insurance on liability, Trucks, building, and health has doubled in 10 years. The cleaning products have doubled in 10 years. Our price for algae treatment for your drain lines cost $120.00 we give it free to contract customers, the price to clean the Condenser coil on the AC unit If we come out to a non-contract customer is $80.00 per cleaning. You get this free. Our check list brings your equipment up to factory fresh condition, so your power bill you can save Hundreds of dollars just on your power bill. We just fixed a Heat Pump where the strip heater was running all the time. The non-ppsa Customer had to pay Duke Energy $606.00 for just 1 month because a mouse shorted out the strip heater causing it to run all the time. We put and spray for pest to stay away from your unit. The point in a service contract is for you to buy something from B&E so we can make a living. The service contract (PPSA) is a loss for us. If my service Tech's do not sell you anything B&E loses money on 2 trips a year. I would be happy for you to be a pardner in our company. We will sell you shares of B&E if you believe we a making a killing. For a 10% share in the company i proposal to sell you 10 % of the company for $100,000.00 and we will pay you 10% of the profit every quarter. We could use the cash and its a great investment. Give me a call and talk to Eddie. We would like all our 916 contract customers a share in the company. But the price of the contract is the normal cost for 70% of all the HVAC company's In Charlotte. Morris is $18.00 a month or $216.00 a year. Sometimes a HVAC company will give you a 1 year new customer special for $99.00 and then the next year raise it to Charlotte average of $169 to $229.00 per unit. Most of the bigger company's will fire tech's if they do not average $400.00 on every visit they make on service contracts. Why? Because we all lose running a Man down the road doing 4 to 5 calls and not making any sells on Ad on's like a UV germ killer that sells for $395.00 or capacitors at $189.00. For 30 years we have heard it all but only 10% complain on high prices? So why not buy a stake in the company. We would like you input on what price we can charge to stay in business. Thanks for your input but high prices after great on time service you must walk in our shoe's to set the price on what we charge. B & E Air Conditioning first came out and was only at my house for about 5 minutes, and replaced a fuse in the furnace. The AC started working again, but quickly started to stop cooling all together after about a week. The AC was freezing up, and I checked to make sure everything was ventilated properly, etc. I had him come back out, and B & E stated that it was for sure the coil, and needed to be fix and cleaned. I was quoted $500 for the work. I was told that it would take at least 2 hours to complete at $150/hour. He made it sound like it was going to be a much bigger product than it really was. He then left for an hour to get cleaning supplies. While he did the work, I watched him remove 1 piece of metal, spray some cleaner on the coil, and brushed it with a brush. At that point, I called the office to make sure everything was done per office standards with charges, etc. It did not take him even close to 2 hours to fix the AC, and this point I feel over charged. I have contacted the company multiple times to dispute the charges, and have been getting the run around on call backs, etc. I believe that I was overcharged by $100, as he had quoted $150/hour, and in reality only did less than 2 hours of work.
Description of Work: I hired B & E Air Conditioning to clean an air conditioning coil in the HVAC as my air conditioning was working the best. The unit was icing up.

They said I had a gas leak from the copper tubing inside my wall. They estimated $2,500 to fix it which I thought was excessive. I asked for an itemized listing for the repairs to show me what would cost so much. They never gave me that back. They did call me back and explained that they thought I had a two-story house and could do the work for $1,350. However, in the meantime, I had already contacted someone else who was able to do the same work for $800. I found the problem was that they did not change the copper tubing during the installation and I had purchased a larger unit. The original copper tubing was too small for the larger unit. The copper tubing became crimped during the installation so that it cut off the flow of gas. I feel that as though if they had changed the copper tubing at the time of installation, I would have not needed any additional repairs. I had used them for a number of years. I had felt that they were good and trustworthy. However, I will not be using them any longer.

We are sorry that you feel like this after being a customer for many years. Last year people were stealing copper because it cost so much. You needed a 50 foot line set 7/8 and 3/8. That is what was there. Cost $250.00 . You always run a new low voltage wire with the line set. Thermostat wire 50 ft cost $30.00. Must take all Freon out and pull a deep vacuum ( vacuum 4 hours ) Need torches and 15 % silver brazing rod. cost last year 160.00 for a 1 lb. You must put a filter dryer on the Coil side of the Line Set for good dry Freon and to keep trash out of the compressor and Evap Coil. We would also need Down spout and hangers to hide the pipes going up the wall and into attic. Then at the end Put new Freon in system at $60.00 per lb. holds about 7 lbs.. I am sorry but we must make 20% on a job like this are we would go broke. I did not count the free Freon we gave you to get by so you would not be hot. The truck up keep, our building rent, paying our staff a wage to live on. If you think we are rich. No we are just a Company that has been doing HVAC for 31 years. What happens when the line set is installed wrong. Compressor goes out in a few years, the expansion valve goes out in the next few years. Sorry but this repair was worth $1600.00 . I can't tell you how someone puts in 50' line set for that little of a price. Just be sure to call them if the Compressor goes, or the coil. Just trying to stay in business. Don't know why it took a year to say you were not happy. I hope your new HVAC company will take care of you. Sorry Eddie

But after getting to many complaints on his attitude we had to let him go. He worked for us over 10 years so we gave him many brakes. His knowledge of the job was no problem. He was smart. My husband made the appointment between 10am and 12pm and they were supposed to call his cell phone. They called our house phone and said they were running late and would be there around 8:15am. There was an obvious miscommunication and we waited until 12:30pm while no one came and then had to call and cancel because no one would be at the house after that time. This isn't the first time this has happened.

Everything from the estimate, to the overall repairs went very well. The lower heater and air conditioner were originally lying on uneven ground causing problems. B& E put in a vertical unit in a better location that worked out better than I thought. The guys were all very professional and thoughtful. The work went well and was on time and estimate, I would highly recommend B&E to anyone that asks. Also as the summer drags on I have more air conditioning then ever. Last year I had trouble keeping the house cool, this summer I have had no problems with it, the house remains at a comfortable temp.

The install began on 5/29 for 2 days. During the install the molding around my attic stairs was ripped off, they did not repair it as promised. The installation was not complete due to some parts on back order- waited 1.5 weeks, called for completion of the job at the end of the second week was told it would take 2 hrs. 8 hrs later, the dampening system was not operating, the tech did not know what he was doing, he called for help, but no one was able to tell him why there was an error code. B&E had to have a Trane manufacturer come and see what they did wrong- it was wired wrong! While I was waiting another week for the Trane man, my duct came off the unit! The technicians are badly trained, the job has taken over a month, and is stilll not complete. The only apology I received was from the man that came on a Saturday to re-attach my duct. Greg refused to apologize and stated that the work was done properly -Really?! I think I can attach a duct by watching u-tube better than what these people did. Never did this company clearly communicate that my system was the first that they will be installing and that it may take longer than the original 2 day quote. No one called me after I emailed and called numerous ocassions to discuss why my duct would come off. No one even understood why I wanted my molding to be replaced (6/25-still not fixed). It was a horrible experience, this company is not customer focused- just money focused, they have stayed in business by taking people's money and hoping no one complains. I don't think they will last another 5 yrs with such poor customer focus and inferiorly trained technicians. I would not recommend this company to anyone, I don't think it should have taken 4 weeks to install and HVAC unit. Look it up on u-tube you may do better doing yourself than hiring these people.

Our mission at B&E has always been to offer our customers exemplary service built on a foundation of honesty, education, certification, and high ethical standards. B&E quoted this job on 05/24/2013. Customer signed contract 05/29/2013. We installed this full system on 05/30/2013. The add on innovative ComfortLink Smart Control zoning parts that the customer wanted were not in stock so customer agreed we would install equipment with thermostat then arrange to come back and finish zoning when parts came in. Customer never went without air conditioning during this period of time. Parts came in 06/10/2013. We worked with customer's schedule to come back out 06/14/2013. We brought Trane's Field Service Rep out on 06/25/2013 to make sure everything was up and running correctly, since this zoning & thermostat is Internet-enabled access, room by room control. The job was inspected on 06/25/2013, by Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement, and passed of which is in compliance with the State of NC. The Subcontractor (Carpenter) B&E hired contacted customer on 6/26/2013 directly and scheduled an appointment on Monday, July 1st 2013 to replace new molding around the attic access. All of our customers are important to B&E, and we have done everything in our power to satisfy, remain attentive, staying in close contact by phone & e-mails during the whole time from beginning to completion. We scheduled a follow up before the fall 2013, for heat mode to assure customer this unit will be working fine before the winter. Thank you, from the Staff at B&E Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc.

B&E provided a complete replacement quote with no surprises. They made an extra visit to ensure the estimate was accurate and they went over and above the initial replacement quote by installing a steel lintel at existing crawl space opening. As a former general contractor in the Charlotte area, I have recommended B&E and I would use them again.
Description of Work: Heat pack was not functioning. B&E evaluated unit and provided repair and replacement estimate.

Roof vent was not sealed properly and caused leaking in the attic and ceiling. Had them come out 3 times before it was finally fixed.

[member name removed], a friend for 30 years. Yes, we had to replace the flu that the builder installed. It was the wrong size vent and needed 1 vent for each furnace. When we bid on the job we did not see this problem. So we ate it with another $300.00 in b-vent. Yes, my guy that installed the flashing on your old roof did a poor job. So B&E hired a roofing company to install the flashing correct. We want it right. The new equipment and labor was put in when it was 130 deg in your attic. I asked you if we could have done the job in March, but you waited till it was 95 deg outside. The Roof was so hot that Jerry had to buy new shoes. I am 59 years old now and depend on the guys to get it right every time. Remember the times i came out put Freon in your AC for free, more then 3 times. I remember i took out a 5 year old AC unit and installed it at you house in the middle of July in 1999 and only charged you $500.00. It was 10 pm at night when i finished. For the past 30 years we have been there for you. We are not roofers. Jerry that works for me you saw grow up from a baby. Jim's son put your flu in and has been working for B&E over 10 years now. He said he messed up. But B&E paid you $500.00 for the ceiling damage. B&E hired a roofer so it would not fall back on us ever again. All i can say is sorry about the water damage. It was the same rain storm that was on the news that South Park Roof caved in. This was a bad storm. We had rain in the time we installed your furnace that had no leaks, but this storm was much worse. Sorry Randy. Some jobs cost the contractor. This one cost B&E big time. We lost $2000.00 . By selling the job to cheap, not knowing you need a new vent system, and the flashing leaking causing you water problem. We learn a lesson to. We call a roofer to cut all holes in a roof. It will cost the customer more but it will protect our pocketbook. Keep those drains clean. You know they will back up every year. Thanks for your commints on Angie's List Eddie Burkhalter

So here it is about 10PM on a Sunday evening and B&E gets a call from my neighbor (they used my name as a reference) so they knew what neighborhood they were in and withing 30 minutes Greg shows up and does a "stop-gap" repair and won't accept payment. The following day they came out, made the repair more permanent at a modest charge while advising they best get some quotes on their outdated 22 year old equipment. Jump ahead to November and B&E got the job because of the great service they provided at a "time of need". No one in the A/C business is perfect but these folks really try hard and do that little extra when it counts. They have done it for me time and again but in this case did it for a neighbor while my units ran perfectly all summer long and the heat is now doing the same.
Description of Work: Renewed my service contract with them for two units they installed about 2-1/2 years ago. Reason for making this report was to tell about a neighbor that called me for help, it was hot, they had just come back from the beach, and their A/C was down.............it was Sunday evening. I told them to give B&E a call since they couldn't get their service provider or anyone else to look at it.
