They had done some painting for me last year and did a phenomenal job. I worked directly with Tony and we loved him. He was so incredibly patient even though my young dog barked every time Tony went in and out. I finally put a bowl of dog treats near the door and then Tony was my dog's new best friend. I hired Value Remodelers which is part of Archadeck of Charlotte to paint a bedroom. I wasn't sure if they would be willing to come out just to paint one bedroom. They didn't have any trip charge or service charge, they just came out for this small job. They even called when he was leaving so I knew to expect him. I work from home so it was important to be able to plan my day knowing exactly when he would be here. He was clean cut and well spoken. He did an amazing job painting. While he was there I told him that I had wished I would have purchased blinds for him to hang but couldn't find my tape measure. He came back down a little later to tell my the size I would need was 35 x 62 and he believe I could pick them up at Lowes. I picked them up. Not only did Tony finish before I expected but he had also hung the new blinds before he left. I will ask for Tony every time. He's great! I love Value Remodelers. Last time I had them patch walls and even dust high ledges since they were already up on ladders.
Description of Work: They painted a room and hung blinds as part of their Value Remodelers business.

DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE! Three month remodel from high bid turned into over a year long nightmare. Job started in October of 2011. They provide NO supervision of their subcontractors, and are slow to respond to any calls, emails or contact. You must provide your own contractor if you want things to be done right. I was subjected to late arrivals and departures, no protection for my home or furniture, lewd prison graffiti on my deck boards, the nose of my new Subaru Outback being crushed, damage to two leather arm chairs, blood smeared and left on the inside of my kitchen range hood vent, a kitchen wall that was so out of level it was wavy, and my venting system being clogged with plaster dust to the point that it had to be replaced, and, after signing the final check in June, the tiles falling out of my kitchen backsplash and going into "warranty" coverage before the job was done to safe and acceptable standards. My floor had to be installed three times before it met the manufacturer's specs. This month (Jan 2013) they FINALLY finished the warranty work on the patio lights, but only after I emailed to ask when it would be done. If you want a high priced, beautiful deck...then give them a call. Otherwise...do not put yourself through the aggravation of dealing with this company unless you need a second career managing their lazy, corner cutting subcontractors and slick salesmen. Apologies to the plumbers and electricians who did a fabulous job...but they were not employees of this company.

A great design person came and spent the afternoon wih me designing a particular type of porch that I wanted built. She was quite informative and knowledgable. She spent a lot of time getting the details exactly as I wanted for the porch, landing, and steps. I went to the business site and met with her and her boss to discuss prices and details. I made last few decisions and signed the contract. She promised to oversee all work and keep me posted as to the progress since I would be working and not be around to ever see any of the construction. After signing the papers they told me they needed a map of my lot. Since I did not have one, her boss promised to get one from the courthouse records in Gastonia. This turned into a great hassle because the man that promised to do this decided he did not want to go to the trouble to go to the courthouse an get this. She finally tracked down my former real estate person and with his help acquired the needed map. However, her employer fired her prior to beginning the construction and did not replace her with anyone that ever contacted me to help see me through the construction or oversee the progress for me. At this point my relationship with the company completely fell apart. I had to continually call/email messages to have the debris removed from my yard. I was never told when the crew would or would not show up. I felt that I was completely in the dark and frustrated. The porch was finished in a couple of weeks longer than the original estimated date and turned out to be quite nice. I did not wish to work with this company ever again and hired someone else to build the patio for me.
Description of Work: I wanted to replace a small deck with steep steps with a large screened porch, landing for my grill, and easier access to the back yard. When this was completed I wanted to add a patio to my yard.

It is unfortunate we were in a position to let go the original designer for this client. For the sake of privacy, we will not discuss this matter on a public forum. With the utmost respect for her, we would professionally disagree with the statement that “…no one ever contacted [her]...” We strive for perfection on every job. As humans, we are on occasion, not perfect. No matter the case, we will complete the job to the satisfaction of the homeowner or we’re just not done yet. It is not our intention to simply disagree with the entire statement made by the client. In fact, we would absolutely agree that this project did take a couple of weeks longer than expected and it turned out beautifully. (The far majority of our clients have a very positive experience with our company; imagine what they would say about their finished product.)

We did not have a good experieince with Archadeck. Miscommunication and half truths plagued the job. For example, they didn't show up to begin the job on day one,(leaving me waiting at home all day without a call) but on day two. We were supposed to have a job coordinator at Archadeck but they were not well coordinated. For example, I received an email telling me that the gutters were to be placed on Wednesday. But the gutter installers were at the house on Monday, placing them before the screens ever went up. The men doing the gutters told us the men placing the screens would undo and then redo the gutters. I called my job coordinator and told him that despite my questioning the gutter guys they didn't stop working and he needed to call and fix it. We repeatedly had issues with the sales team, and those in charge communicating, telling the crew what we wanted done. We were told that there would be at least three crews and yet it was only one that did all the work. The job boss clearly was working on at least a few jobs at once and one day left only one worker at my home to handle things. My husband had to help lift and hold the sliding glass door in place because that day there were only 2 men on the job. For the amount of money spent, I find that ridiculous. The owner would stop by to marvel at the work being done, and to hand hold us because we clearly got the reputation of being difficult. But I must say I would have pereferred less chatting with us and more quality control. We had to call and complain about the buckling in the ceiling and the stap marks on the deck (the Archadeck office told us the strap marks on the wood was from the wood curing---total BS) One day the men didn't show up because it was raining hard by them and although it was only drizzling and misting at our house they refused to lay brick. Again the office told us that you can't lay brick in rain, total BS, espcially since the bricks to be replaced were under the roofline of the porch. The head of contruction came and spent an hour going over the things we wanted fixed, he agreed that we had the right to be irritated at some of the quality, however the next day when the workers showed back up they had no idea what needed to be fixed- once again a communication failure. Our initial lumber order did not have the deck boards for the floor. Then they ordered more and still we didn't have enough trim to complete the job. There was a two week period in the middle of the job when no work was done. We ultimately fired Archadeck and hired someone else to complete the sliding glass door, masonry work, transum light, drywall repairs, trim work, painting and all finish work. The painter Archadeck suggested was wonderful, professional and excellent at his job. The electrician they recommended was very good and professional. The main contractor who showed up day after day, was frustrated by the job and for not being included in conversations regarding the sliding door. He showed up overwhelmed and unprepared for the work regarding the removal of a door and window to be replaced by a sliding glass door. Archadeck did not like our tone with them, and thought we were rude because we were fed up with micromanaging the work. The deck is complete. It looks good. It is built well. They sent workers to finish the job and fix the flaws we saw. I'm glad it's over.

They started on it in May and finished in September. They were supposed to be completed with the job in under a month. We had to repaint the inside of it. It was not well made in areas. The quality was terrible. The ceiling was supposed to just be stained, but the materials were so terrible that we had to paint it with three coats of paint. Everything was terrible. The materials, time frame, and workmanship were all terrible.

Response from Archadeck of Charlotte
While this project did take longer than our typical porch, we started construction on June 8th and the final inspection was completed on August 22nd. The combination of the details of the project (including but certainly not limited to) a tile floor in the porch, painting by the homeowner, weather, construction delays, etc , pushed this project out to 2.5 months to completion. The average porch takes about 4-6 weeks. Also of note, the homeowner insisted we cracked their concrete patio through the course of construction. While we felt strongly we did not cause the crack, we did issue a credit to the homeowner before the job was completed in the name of customer service.

Overall: Did good work. But frustration on my part because of their lack of punctuality.
Description of Work: I had a plumbing problem and had to have my Archadeck-built deck removed and then replaced after the plumbers fixed the pipe. I contacted Archadeck/Value Remodelers to do the work, since they were the original contractors. The crew came on 5/7/12 to remove the deck. They came 5 hours after they said that they would be there, and after 4 calls to find out where they were. The same thing happened on 5/10 and 5/11 when they were to return to replace the deck. Time of arrival was changed 3 times.I will say that they did a very good job with the work. You cannot tell that the deck was taken up.My problem was frustration in waiting for workers and having to change my schedule several times for 3 days.

The sales process and bidding was normal for this type of project. Eric Kent, Owner was personally involved. He mentioned that he had never been sued nor had a BBB claim against his company. During the install they dug out a section of steps and it caused water to crack our boat house wall. He would not take responsibility for the repair of $4,000.00. After this problem communications went downhill. Within one year the re-decking on the rear of the house started to drop 3" in the middle. Eric Kent said he would not help with the repair because it is out of the one year warranty and they did not alter the structure. They told us the framing was adequate for the re-decking by their engineer. I hired a structural engineer and he determined that the existing framing was not strong enough to hold the heavier composite materials. Eric Kent still refused to help with the repair cost even after I offered to split the cost. I hired an attorney and after 14 months Eric Kent finally settled just before being taken to court. It has just been announced he is not a Board Member for the BBB in Charlotte.

Response from Archadeck of Charlotte
This customer made a complaint with the BBB. The complaint was closed with the BBB as Administratively Judged Resolved, which mean Archadeck made every reasonable effort to resolve the dispute. Archadeck did offer to fix this customer’s complaint for cost as this was unforseen and the customer signed an unforeseen condition form at contract siging. We then offered again out of good will to do the work for ½ the cost per the homeowner's requets. Upon issuing a contract for this additiona work the homeowner refused to sign it and then we did not hear back from the homeowner again until 2 months later when they hired an attorney. Emails and documentation has been provided to Angie’s List to confirm this. Due to protecting our “Brand” we settled with writing the customer a check.

After a tree fell on my ugly pergola, I needed to replace only the top. The columns were still viable. The start-date was postponed due to weather, but it went very fast once begun. All the lumber was hand-cut on the premises. That is amazing in itself. The young man hand-cut (8) fancy ornamental angle-pieces to enhance the look of the structure, and secured them to the 90degree angles of the structure. I decided it was not my taste, and he (after putting all that time into their manufacture) cheerfully removed them and filled in the holes on the columnes. The painting was also postponed due to rain, understandably. The painters did a good job also. Took them just 2 days. All involved with the process were pleasant, flexible and good to work with. I am very happy with the finished product.

I don't understand how this company gets any business! The Archadeck representative came to our house to give us a quote to get a screened in porch built. They did a porch for our neighbor and so I thought I would give them a try. The guy who came over made us feel that he clearly didn't want to be there. He did not engage with us or act personable at all. Perhaps that it was a Saturday afternoon and he had better things to do with his time? He told us that he was not even willing to draw us a simplified sketch of a porch design unless we committed right then and there, without even going over any estimates. He was pushy and aggressive. He had a lot of nerve! We ended up using a different company (Exterior Additions) and we could not have been happier!

Steve Peirce came out and gave us an estimate for replacing all the wood with new wood as a sperate estimate for the replacement with the TREX® product. My husband wanted the deck to be as maintenance free as possible so he decided on the TREX® product. The estimated start date given was for the week after July 4; however, we received a call that the job could be started on June 27. The installers arrived early in the morning each day and by the end of the week (they had to wait one day on additional material) the deck was finished and looks beautiful. Through out the replacement process Steve stopped by and made sure that everything was proceeding to our liking. This is a good company and we will use them again if we have another job of a similar nature.
Description of Work: Remove the old wood from the deck, the railing and the steps. Also removed the lattice from the deck frame. Replace all wood removed with TREX® (a green product that looks like wood but is maintenance free and has a 25 year guaranty). Replace the old lattice with a stronger lattice in a frame and close of all open spaces around the deck.

Overall very well, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Because the work was performed over the Christmas holiday season (including during the big snowstorm in Charlotte), we lost over a week of work. This was also due to some miscommunication about the fact that Eric's team was waiting on us for some feedback to the painting contractor. After about a week of nobody showing up, we called Cathy in the office, and she got us all back on track. The work crew was great, very experienced, and came to the job with some very good ideas. The office staff is fantastic; friendly and incredibly responsive. When I would call with a question or request, it was always handled same day, usually within a couple of hours. Eric makes the planning process easy, as they've done many of these and know exactly what they're doing. Only caution would be that, if you're looking to do a completely custom job and are particular about details, you'll need to take a more active role that we did, as several aspects of how they approach the job are non-custom. We didn't pay enough attention to the colors of some of the details and had to make some changes. Overall, a great experience, and I would recommend Archadeck to anyone.
Description of Work: removed existing deck, replaced with screened porch and added a new outdoor deck. Also added a stone patio and firepit. Porch and deck included lighting and ceiling fan. Porch is wood, outdoor deck is composite material.
