Mike England was very patient working with us while we decided what we wanted and how much we wanted to spend. And I appreciate the fact that, as a salesperson, he did not abandon us once we signed the paperwork to start the project. He stayed in touch with us throughout the project and was very responsive. In fact, he made the project manager seem a little slow to respond. The major delays in the project were due to awaiting approval from the HOA board, the city and the county - not the fault of Archadeck. When Archadeck initially framed the deck, it was the wrong shape and size, but I think that was because of confusion caused by our multiple discussions of how long and which direction our ramp would go. (I doubt most contractors have had to work with people like us who want a special ramp for Dachshunds.) Fortunately, Mike came out and made sure the frame was redone correctly. It took a couple of tries to pass county inspection and I'm not sure why because honestly I didn't understand all of the lingo, but ultimately it passed and the project was able to proceed. After staining, there is sap oozing from some of the deck boards, but Archadeck explained that happens sometimes with southern yellow pine and it can be cleaned with turpentine. Overall, the project took a bit longer than expected, but the deck is sturdy, well-built and looks great. It was well worth the wait for a quality product.
Description of Work: Tore down old deck and replaced it with bigger deck plus ramp and gates to control access to ramp and stairs.

We recently had a final meeting with company representatives to review the problems we experienced and I am pleased to report that the situation is much better. Although I am unhappy with the process, the product is very nice and serves as a great place to entertain.
Description of Work: We contracted Archadeck of Charlotte to build a deck and patio. We were told the project would take 5 days to complete. It took nearly 5 weeks! We were promised there would be a superintendent to help the project along but that didn't happen. I ended up managing the project myself by calling and complaining to the office and sales rep. We were lied to on top of the broken promises and mismanagement of construction. Every piece of the project had to be redone at one point or another during this ordeal. The only contractor who did what they said and when was the painter. I am disgusted with this company and hope this review will save at least someone the heartache of dealing with them.

The communication was awful. Numerous unreturned phone calls and emails. Contractor was 4 hours late the day he was supposed to show without any notice after wife and I took day off to wait for them. Contractor finally showed up to start the project and didn't even have a tape measure to take measurements. Had to borrow mine and then took only 2 measurements. Told me they couldn't get started that day because it was raining (on an indoor project). Promised to show up the next day at 8am. Took another day off work only to get a message at 9am that he was sick and would be back Tuesday. Emailed the supervisor and after 2 days heard back that he didn't even know the guys didn't get started. Needless to say at that point we cancelled the appointment.
Description of Work: Who had scheduled an appointment for a 3 step project: moving an interior doorway and patching up drywall; install triple French doors to backyard and brick up existing door; install a covered patio to existing deck. Met with he service rep and they were great at the initial meeting. After several weeks of no communication we had scheduled them to come out to house to start project one, Ashdod a family emergency so we had to cancel. Once we returned tried to reschedule several times. Cancelled contract before work started.

Awesome job!!! Archadeck did a full screen porch, deck and paver patio project for us. Punctual, friendly, efficient! Work looks great and project was started and completed on schedule. No mess was left behind and we are thrilled with the final results. Steve Peirce and Kellie Hanneman and their crews went above and beyond for us.

The folks at archadeck did a fantastic job. They had different teams that needed to come in to handle framework/build; roofing; electrical; paint; & stonework on patio. The quality of work was phenominal and even more impressive was the desire by each team to make sure we were completely satisfied with the work that was done. Archadeck was there every step of the way coordinating; keeping us informed and making sure that we were completely happy with the finished product. As the project went along, there were some changes we wanted to make and archadeck was very accommodating and able to implement as per our desires. Another side note, we were expecting our backyard to be a mess for a month or so as project unfolded, but we felt they were extremely neat and clean with work they were doing - an added bonus. Overall - professional, courteous, accommodating & high quality. Could not be happier. Would highly recommend! Thanks Mark and Archadeck!!
Description of Work: We had archadeck remove our old deck and re-build with a larger screened-in porch that included EZ Breeze windows so that we can close in for longer use during colder months. They also added a stone patio at the landing area of the new porch steps.

BE VERY CAREFUL OF DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! In summary, communication with their customers, subcontractors, and themselves is awful. They overpromise and under deliver. Business practices are questionable. Examples are to follow. My wife and I recorded all of our experiences on six pages b/c early on we became suspicious of how this company operates. We signed with them at the end of April after a meeting with their salesman. He presented us with great ideas and reasonable pricing. We were told the start of the project would be about 3-4 weeks after HOA approval. We received approval from the HOA and after 3 weeks we realized Archadeck was behind in their schedule and opted to put off our project until August for personal reasons. I had to call our salesman a few times to find out where we were initially on the schedule. The final time I spoke with Kathy, a manager. I expressed my concern about the lack of communication so far and she assured me that she would personally call me on August 5th, one week before we agreed to start. I never received this call on 8/5, 8/6, or 8/7. I called and spoke with the scheduler, Callan, on 8/7. Once again I expressed my concern for the lack of communication. I made it very clear early on that I expected to be informed. I also made clear that we expected to have a dedicated crew to the project since we put it off for a couple of months. We started on 8/12. It was an EXTREMELY frustrating process from then on. It's as if this company forgot we were on the schedule and tried to fit us in when they could. We were supposed to meet with our salesman/PM on the first day to review plans with the carpenter. This didn't happen and resulted in big delays. The plans called for a step down deck from our porch. 3 weeks into the project we realized this wasn't being built. The carpenter had to tear down the existing frame and start over. Our initial inspection failed on the second day of the project. Our PM hired a soil engineer as was required on the failed inspection notice. A few days later without any warning we received a $300 bill from the soil engineer. We asked the PM about this bill. He initially told us this might be an incidental as stated in our contract that wasn't expected so we might have to pay the bill. He said "he would look into it." He called us back and said the company would pay for the bill. It turns out that on our county zoning website it clearly states this test is required.(I was able to find this in 5 minutes) Yet Archadeck who obtained permits for this project claims they weren't aware of this requirement. We saw crews no more than 2 - 2.5 days a week on a project that took 9 full weeks to complete. There were no major weather delays to account for this. We had to constantly call, fight, demand, and find out when crews would be available. We failed 5-6 inspections. When I asked if we needed a re-inspection of the initial inspection we failed I was told in an email that we did NOT. This was clearly false. We didn't have another inspection on the deck for 3 weeks. We had work that had to be done multiple times. This included wiring under the deck that was unprofessionally done, a deck that had to be stained twice because crews after the initial staining left red clay to dry and ruin the finish, we had railings that weren't done correctly. We did get the VP of construction, John Flinn, involved. This was fruitless. It's as if no one in this company talks to each other. We ultimately had Erik Kent call us. He was on vacation and didn't make any attempt to hide the fact that he was annoyed he had to call me. Mr. Kent, if your crews and staff had been diligent, honest, and timely you wouldn't have had to get involved. If you want to be annoyed take it up with your staff. We met with him the following week. As far as I'm concerned his visit was nothing more than theatrics. The attitude of this company clearly starts at the top. He did give us a discount of $500 at the end. This seemed inadequate for all OUR time and trouble we had with Archadeck. Other examples of miscommunication included the subcontracted painter who called us and didn't know the color of the stain we were using. We had picked this out at our initial meeting with the salesman. We(my wife, the owner of the concrete company, and Mr. Flinn) scheduled concrete crews towards the end of the project to come out on a M/T/Wed. two weeks in advance because the owner of the concrete company was on vacation. Archadeck rescheduled the concrete company because they were not available for some reason. This was not true according to the owner of the concrete company when he arrived that week. They were supposed to pour concrete that Friday but never showed. When I asked the scheduler why they didn't show, he told me the owner of the concrete company told my wife he wasn't going to be able to make it until the following Monday. This was a bold face lie. This conversation b/w my wife and the owner of the concrete company never happened. It turns out the owner of the concrete company sent the scheduler an email the previous Thursday letting him know they were delayed until Monday because of weather. My wife saw this email herself. The scheduler never called us with this information and instead decided to lie to us. We were told by Mr. Kent there would be a final walk through inspection. This never happened. Instead we received our final bill. As a final example of their poor communication, on October 29th I received a call from the soil engineer looking for payment on the service he provided on AUGUST 15th. This was the bill our PM told us he "would take care of." We already paid our project in full and still have to deal with their incompetence. This is not how a reputable company operates or treats its customers. It's clear from other reviews that our experience was not isolated.
Description of Work: Demo of existing stairs to our porch, and railings on the porch Installed EZ-Breeze windows to the porch, painted porch, and stained the floor Built step down deck next to porch, along with steps Added concrete patio below new deck, and concrete pathway from the front of the house Added lighting to the new deck and stairs

Response from Archadeck of Charlotte
When the homeowner feels the need to be the “project manager”, the project won’t go well for either party. This job had a process that was far from perfect; however the product stands on its own. It’s unfortunate that as a company we did everything possible to deliver a beautiful project and even after accomplishing that and offering a discount, the homeowner was still unhappy. Ironically, calling our office is a much more effective communication tool than writing a 6 page journal or a public chastising. What separates us from other companies is that we care enough to want to get it right. Sometimes, yes, sometimes, the project is not right the first time. This company is comprised of humans that can make mistakes. However, even at great expense, we will absolutely make it right every single time.

Archadeck is the most professional contractor we have ever worked with. They kept us informed on a weekly basis with every detail of what to expect and who would be at our home doing work. The contractors were all very professional and cleaned up at the conclusion of each day. The best part about the project was the quality of the workmanship! Our screened porch came out even better than we ever imagined and has truly become the favorite room in the house by the entire family! Eric Kent and Archadeck will be our first and only call for any indoor or outdoor renovation/addition project we do in the future.

The project was completed on time and quality of the work was outstanding. The installer, Mike Homewood, was professional, courteous, responsive and he took a lot of pride in his work. This is my third project with Archadeck, deck around my pool, lower deck and now an additional deck with a screen porch. I wouldn't even call anyone else for a quote, due to the quality, professionalism and communication from past projects. These guys are true craftsman, and focus to every detail, made my experience another A+. They cleaned up the worksite each day, and were friendly and very considerate of my wife and kids. The quality of the project went beyond my expectations. I knew what I wanted and the salesperson offered additional idea's that I hadn't even thought of to make the project even more special. The roof line on the screen porch is blended into my existing structure as if it was originally part of the house. I can only say WOW when the my addition was completed. I'm already planning an outdoor kitchen and patio, and Archadeck will be the only company I'll consider, they are just that good.

The larger deck was built first. A wet Spring put my project behind schedule and since I preferred to be home for the construction, it made scheduling difficult. The crew did show up on schedule and did an excellent job. I was happy to be onsite to make a few small changes. Another crew came a few days later to clean the site and remove excess material. A few months later Archadeck returned to my home to build the second deck for my hot tub. This also went off without a hitch. Punctual crew and clean-up a few days later.

It didn't. As I stated above, we were very hesitant to contract a company that couldn't keep track of prospective customers.
Description of Work: Had provider come to house to discuss and measure back deck for screening in. Talked about 1 to 1 1/2 hours listening to his sales presentation. He left saying he would be emailing proposal the following week . Waited over four weeks before contacting them again. He said the we "Had slipped his mind" but would like to set up another appt. to come out and talk to us. I told him to forget it because if Archadeck was truly interested, we wouldn't have slipped his mind. No offer to prepare a quote and mail it ASAP. My fear was that this initial behavior might be indicative of how they handle such a project.

Today March 29, 2013-Happy to report they are done. They came at 2 pm as I was told they would. Took a break for lunch at 3:30 and were gone by 5:00. They restored my yard back to a workable state, put the bricks back in place-though not perfect, decreased the size of the concrete square. They checked the functionality of the drain, made some adjustments and stated it works fine. My opinion is still out that. The beauty of the screen porch is beginning to show. This turned out okay but was not a good first impression. The builder and electrician were exceptional, unfortunate that it was a package deal. Learned a valuable lesson that I will not have to repeat. would I use them again...probably not. Am I looking forward to enjoying the finished product. Absolutely! i regret it had to come to this. Today, my dealings were with Kathy Young, General Manager-perhaps it was timing, not sure but she seems to be the one if any that is the "mover and shaker" of the organization. Certainly wish I had known that-I would have dealt with her from the beginning.
Description of Work: I can't begin to say how disappointed I am with this company Archadeck and how they have handled this job. I had lots of customer service calls that turned out to be just that "calls"-several things were promised as being on schedule but very little was. A drainage system was to be installed as well as a screen porch. The screen porch is nice however the "eyesore" state they left my yard in is horrible. All I have been told is my yard is too wet to work in. Well-that was what you were to be fixing. there is a "pop-up" drain that doesn't pop up and a huge concrete slab in my back yard that is so much bigger than the pipe that it sticks out like a red flag in a field of cotton. They had to remove bricks that have not been put back, they left mounds of clay around the porch that splashes into the inside of the porch and has turned my white stain into red. To pacify me they brought out a roll of straw to blanket around the porch. The rain has come and the yard dried and the rain has come and the yard dried and they are still waiting for the right day. Water is standing the drain (where the big concrete slab is) with no where to go-why? Because it is lower than the end drain it should come out of. I have taken to social media in an effort to get some resolve to this. I made a mistake in paying them before they were done. New screen porch and yet I don't want to even come out the door. It looks that bad. I guess they are still waiting on the rain -again! To think Eric Kent called me one day and asked how did I like everything? My response-are they done? He said yes until I sent him pictures. I should have known something was up when one of the workers sneaked in my back yard and took the wheel barrow (on a Sunday morning). The sub-contractors that Eric speaks so highly of leave a lot to be desired. The builder and electrician came in a timely manner-did what they said and finished on time. The crew in my yard never spent a whole day -I was always the after-thought-they came late and left early. They are supposed to come back after all they left two bails of hay (to impress me) but it has been three days and no rain. I am not pleased with Archadeck. Pictures to follow....

I got three estimates. Archadeck wasn't the cheapest but they were the one who supplied a 3-D rending of what my project would look like when it was done. They answered my call and I didn't have to chase the man down for a price. The craftmanship and the customer service was wonderful. The sales guy Steve Peirce was always around to answer any questions. We ran into a small problem but they fixed it. I went with a bigger company and paid a little more just because of this. I had used smaller companies in the past for projects and they aren't around if something goes wrong. Everyone at Archadeck was wonderful. Anne called me every other day with an update on what to expect. I was never left wondering what was going to happen.

See above. Great work and full satisfaction.
Description of Work: We used a subsidiary of Archadeck- Value Remodelers to remodel our master closet and bathroom. Greg Handzlick designed the project and continually stopped by to check progress. The project involved demolishing the current walk in shower down to the studs and totally rebuild. Walls were finished in tile with frameless glass door. Garden tub was removed and closet expanded. Tile floors were ripped up and replaced . Guest powder room was also retiled. Ivan G. was the main craftsman. He was a perfectionist, very hard working and did an amazing job. We could not have down this without Greg and Ivan. The subcontractors that did work on the project spoke highly about the great work ethics of Archadeck and Value Remodelers. We are pleased and question why we did not do this before.

Everything was fine with this company. I had no problems with them. They showed up on time and were responsive. They were a little expensive, but I knew that before getting the work done.
Description of Work: I hired this company to build a screen in porch.
