My wife and I contracted Archadeck of Charlotte for a complete porch/ deck remodel. The design for this major project was created and produced by Archadeck. The project began on time, continued on time and was completed on time. All through the process, Archadeck was in contact with us advising the progress and what would be next. The quality of work, the followup, the constant communication and the finished product is superior. We would recommend Archadeck and will not hesitate to use Archadeck again. We are very pleased with our finished product. A truly professional and first class company. Jerry & Debra Fitzgerald/ Weddington NC

We can not be happier with our finished deck! The difference between our old deck and our new composite on is night and day! Archedeck provided us a seasoned professional in our lead carpenter, Jarrod, who carefully took off the old decking and then added some trusses, and bolstered the infrastructure of the stairs. The composite decking went on like a breeze and was finished off with a railing system that leaves the project looking so perfect! We are the first clients to use Archedeck's new digital project management/communication system, BuilderTrend, which put all our pertinent information about the job in one place online (paperwork, drawings, schedules, etc.) and provided a way for us to receive/contact team members quickly. It was a huge communications timesaver. When we started thinking about this project, we knew the major reason for choosing a contractor would be their experience with this specific product. A composite deck brings a lot of building issues that are outside the realm of a regular, treated wood deck. We knew we needed someone who could bring their "A" game, and the folks at Archedeck didn't disappoint. Archedeck is for real when it comes to building and installing composite decking systems!!
Description of Work: We had an 20+ year old pressure treated wood deck. Archedeck of Charlotte took off the old decking and railing and replace it with a composite decking/railing system while maintaining the original structure.

I met them at the home show and discussed my project. He showed up on Tuesday and looked at the project and said he could get it done on Friday. They showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently. I am very pleased with the outcome of the project and would recommend this company.

Eric and his team spent a lot of time with us getting to understand our vision for the project, and helped us by offering creative ideas to enhance the space. The work was completed in a timely manner by staff who kept the area neat and clean, who were friendly, and who clearly had expert hands. The price was more than reasonable and did not change throughout the process. We could not be happier with Archadeck and the work they completed for us.

Mark..Verbally quoted price that was $3000 HIGHER than other quotes..enough said! Refused to provide written estimate with sizes unless I committed on the spot and ignored the fact that I said I was getting estimates from other scheduled installers. Very pushy, arrogant and visbally quota-driven during discussion.

Review 2 After writing our initial review, we met with the owner of the Archadeck, Mr. Eric Kent, along with another representative. They came out to the house & sat down with us to listen to our concerns. We were very impressed with them. It does say a lot when the owner himself will meet with the customers. We had a wonderful conversation with them. And they truly cared about our needs. My wife & I were impressed with both their professionalism & sincerity. It is this reason we felt to write a follow up review. We spend well over an hour discussing the problems we had over the course of the project. Notes were taken & they listened before responding. After we talked, they came out to look at the few punch list items we had. Before the day was over, all the issues were addressed. And to be fair, we did have to wait for warmer weather to address the staining. It is important for us to write this update. It speaks volumes that they took the time to come out & listen to us, address the issues, correct the problems & apologize for the process. All of us agree that this final product is incredible. It?s not often you will follow a horrible review with a positive one. We stand by what we said before but it?s not how you start, its how you finish. And we are very appreciative of Mr. Kent & Mike Luick coming out to talk about our problems with the process. It shows they truly care about their customers & the reputation of Archadeck. My wife & I are excited to enjoy our porch now with spring around the corner.

This job started well with Eric Kent (the owner) working with us to design the fire pit and patio and determining the scope of the work. The patio and fire pit were done first and were done by Monty and turned out well. After that, it went downhill. The communication to us and to all the different subcontractors was abyssmal. None of them knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing. We had to constantly monitor them and show them the original quote to keep them on track - and they still did some work they shouldn't have done (installed wood steps instead of Trex to match deck, replaced an old gate instead of building a new one). I had some hope when a project manager from Archadeck named Mike came out one afternoon; I thought he would coordinate the subcontractors and alleviate that problem, but frankly, I cannot think of a single thing he did to move the project forward, so it was a waste of time meeting with him. There were gaps of a week with beautiful weather when no one showed up. Some of the subcontractors said they were done without having done cleanup - we received the final invoice when there was still wood, grout and other garbage in our yard that needed to be removed. There were paint stains on the new deck steps after they painted the railings. The full job took 3 months when it could have been done in a month. The final straw was that Archadeck attempted to charge us for a mistake they had made - they retiled the deck where the spa had been not the way we agreed, so they had to remove it and do it correctly. I would give Archadeck an F, but the patio and fire pit turned out well, so I that is why they get a D. The C for quality is an average of an A for the patio and fire pit and a D for the other jobs.
Description of Work: Archadeck put in a patio and fire pit, repaired a slate deck, removed an in deck spa and built up and tiled the resulting hole, added additional stairs to a deck and repaired some railings.

There are always 2 sides to every story. What’s most unfortunate is in the end, this client received a beautiful project but was still upset enough to write this review despite a substantial discount for their inconvenience. This particular homeowner changed their mind several times during the job which resulted in delays in their project. While it seems as though it’s impossible to win over every client, (even when we go above and beyond our contractual obligation) that won’t stop us from trying.

Initially this project started with a $15,000 budget - after reviewing with carastaur?, Shea Builders, and 3 other builders, we chose ArchaDeck. Eric Kent, the local Archadeck owner and the one you see on the commercials, came out and gave us an initial estimate as well as showed my wife and I a portfolio of other porches built in the area. Eric was very good at designing a concept of what we wanted with vague descriptions of our wishes. We were a little unsure of all the options that were available, but Eric showed us options through pictures, and his suggestions. His goal was not to make us spend more money, as he eliminated multiple items that were things we could do ourselves for far less - like the fan and painting. When we said we still had another company coming to quote, there was not a pressure pitch of "what will it take to get you to commit right now?'' He recommended some other builders that were credible and said he looked forward to hearing from us. When we narrowed it down and were leaning toward Archadeck we visited their new showroom to put our deposit down. One of the showroom displays was a porch with different types of fixtures and screens. One item was an EZE Breeze vinyl window/screen instead of basic screen pattern. I was instantly in love with them, and asked Eric why he didn't mention them before - he said it would add another $4,000 to the price and that he wanted to stick to our 15k budget. I said we'd find the money and we put our deposit down. In about a week we had a 3D CAD model emailed to us of what our porch would look like on our house - this was great, we agreed and ArchaDeck filled out all of the HOA paperwork and we started receiving our materials shortly. The porch builders were top notch - in the event of a tornado, my house will be gone, but the porch will remain. It took a few weeks to build the porch, patch the hardy plank, and install the 2 doors. The EZ breeze windows are custom ordered to the sizes specified, so once they arrived, they were quickly installed. The major issues we had with ArchaDeck was not the structural or cosmetics of the finished porch, but some service issues. 1) There were multiple items docketed by the building inspector that seemed basic - my issue with that is that these are public record and look bad on the build, why call in an inspection without doing one yourself. 2) Archadeck was supposed to acid stain the slab, it was not done properly - someone just through muradic acid on the slab and tossed stain on it - no sealer - and said it was done. This was an added cost and took multiple visits from Eric and another ArchaDeck rep to get the slab just painted one solid color, which was the cheaper option. 3) We felt like we were hounded for the final payment when we were still waiting for small items to be taken care of. Overall the construction, quality, look, features, etc. of the porch are perfect. Looking at our house, you can't tell it was an after thought. From the inside, the EZE breeze windows go from a screen porch to a 3-season room in seconds, and it has a semi-feel of an indoor/outdoor room. Archadeck cost a little more but they did deliver even though we are very picky.
Description of Work: Had a large gabled screen porch designed and built with EZE Breeze Windows installed.

The quality of the work was excellent. The project manager and contractors were all pleasant and made every effort to be accommodating. The pace of construction was frustrating as we'd often go 4-5 days at a time without anything being done, in contradiction to the schedule they provide. Archadeck doesn't use dumpsters onsite so the buildup of scrap and materials on our yard and driveway over the life of the project (10 weeks) was frustrating. Our biggest issue however is with the owner of Archadeck, who came out for the initial visits and wrote the contract for us. His either lack of attention to detail or sheer incompetence led to several disagreements throughout the project regarding issues that we felt where highly suspicious. When we asked to have an existing door moved and the old place filled in, we were surprised that his idea of filling In a hole left by the old door was to use siding on the outside, despite the fact that our house is brick. This type of issue led to an overall lack of trust on our part about what was written into contract and of Archadeck. This wasn't an isolated incident either.

While we appreciate the (however brief) kind words on our quality of workmanship and people, it is unfortunate this review was primarily focused on the negatives. It should be noted that in the light of a disagreement between what was to be provided, the homeowner ended up receiving more than what we were contractually obligated to provide. For example, in the brick vs. siding dispute as mentioned above, the outcome was brick at no additional charge (even with “siding” written on the scope of work). Upper management has contacted this homeowner. No job will be perfect, and while we continue to improve we hope the public will understand our primary focus is (and has always been) quality and customer service.

The best part of the experience was the guy who did the quote was very knowledgeable, very likeable. The worst part was it was just a verbal given to me, nothing written, and the estimator or they guy who did the quote seemed like expected me to just find out right then and there and I was just given quotes.
Description of Work: I had some quotes done but ended up doing the work myself instead of calling the people that did the quote. It was Archadeck of Charlotte. It might have been $5000 to rebuild the deck of the same size and maybe $9000 to rebuild twice the size. That was tearing out my deck and rebuilding it twice the existing size.

The Company sent two different crews. (1) To clean and prepare deck and bridge, (2) Another crew to stain deck and bridge. The lady who quoted the job came out and measured the job without seeing me for any questions I had for her on the work. I had wanted to point out several things to her, but she did not wait for me to be at home. So everything was over the phone and I never got to meet her. I asked for a better price as her price was double what I had paid others in the past to do the same work. She did reduce her price by $50.00 and said they would lose money if they met my previous prices for the work. They seem to have several people involved in this type of work, so with a lot of people to pay, I understand why the price had to be higher. The two crews did an excellent job cleaning and staining the bridge and deck. I gave this vendor a "B" due to the cost for the job being double what I had paid before for same work. However, the vendor I had used before was not in business any longer and I needed for the color of my stain to be the same. This vendor now has the franchise for the stain I have been using for several years.

I don't even know where to begin. We have had multiple remodel projects in the past and actually chose Archadeck since they were an established company, hoping to avoid the many headaches we had previously experienced. Well, we were wrong, again. We signed a contract back in December of 2013 with an estimate from Archadeck that the project would take about 8-10 weeks to complete. That is when the headaches began. We had several delays getting approval for the project. The project did not get started until sometime early to mid March. We had minor rain delays with the foundation, which I understand. Lumber and supplies arrived around the first of April to begin framing and the roof. This is where major delays began. The construction workers obviously were given poor or no communication on our project, which was exactly what we the customer were given. We were told routinely by Kellie, the scheduler, that workers would be out this day to do that and no one would show for days. Windows were ordered that were the wrong windows, so new windows were ordered. Guess what, the new windows were also the wrong windows. The construction guy noticed this and called this into Kellie, but she told him to install them anyway that my husband had approved them. When my husband arrived at our house the construction guy showed him the windows and since they were the wrong windows they stuck out 1 1/2 inches from the exterior side of the house .I called Kellie and she said the siding would fill in this gap, but siding had already been put up and they still stuck out about an inch. So again new windows had to be ordered. When I would inquire about the delays we were having, Kellie would bring up the fact that my husband did not like the windows and they were waiting on new ones to come in. THEY WERE THE WRONG WINDOWS, WHY WOULD WE LIKE THEM. I then challenged her on why couldn't some other work be done while we waited on windows, like the patio or the steps. Within the next 2 weeks the patio was installed.. Why are we having to beg for work to be done? Is this not what we have paid for? We had issues with the tile floor and with the trim around the windows and door. We just wanted the trim to match the existing house. The project manager took pictures, but this information obviously did not get to the workers, so this had to be redone. When they went to install the door to the existing house, that was ordered back in May and had been sitting in our garage for 2 months, it was the wrong door. Remember the lumber and supplies that were delivered back in April? Well the left over warped wood and debris was finally picked up on August 8. We had been asking for this to be done for approximately 2 months. The siding and steps had to be redone due to unacceptable quality of work. This company admitted to us several times that they had problems with communication but never did anything about it. A good example of this was when we were ready for some of the interior work to be done. The trim around the interior door had about a 1/2 inch gap between it and the wall. I took pictures of this and sent it to Mike, the second project manager, who said they would fix it. We also had trim work around an oval window that was hand cut and obviously wavy, I mentioned this also to Mike and again he said they would fix this. The painters came in and filled in the gap with caulk and painted both of these trim pieces, and even put on a second coat, even though we informed Mike this was not acceptable. The carpenters then came back out to replace the trim which then had to be repainted again. So now you can see that it has been patched. I have asked repeatedly to speak with the owner of the company, even leaving him a message on his voice mail and to this date they have not meet this request. I called David, the V.P. for the company, last week to inquire why no workers had done any work on our project and his response was that he thought they were finished with our project. We were told by Mike, about a month ago that 95% of our project was completed, yet they are still not finished. I am submitting this review now, even though the project is not completed, hoping to get a response for the owner.

It went very well. All were very helpful and responsive starting with Greg Handzlik who handled the contracting and help with design. All the individuals who worked on this project were polite, professional, prompt, very reliable and did excellent work. These include Adam and Peter who did the bulk of the remodel, Steve James and Rick who handled the plumbing aspects and Firehouse Electric who handled the electrical work. I would definitely recommend all of these individuals.

Awful business practices. We wanted an estimate for a screened in porch and discussed several options with the salesman when he came to our home. We expected a detailed estimate of the work and various options so we could make a decision about what to include. Over a week later (we contacted him), and he sends an email with "rough investment ranges" for the project, stating that it will be about 49k for the porch and another 7k for the patio. There are no details in this estimate at all -- and one option we discussed were the EZbreeze windows -- we have no way of knowing whether this "estimate" included the additional options we discussed. We went back to him and asked for a more detailed estimate/proposal. He said he'd need to come to the home (requiring us to miss more work) to discuss and provide. He insisted this was company policy. Well, we did have him to the home -- thought that was the point, so that we could get the details. If this company is not willing to provide a detailed estimate that actually gives us some information, why would we waste our time for a second meeting? I've read other accounts here where people have had the exact same work done -- removal of deck, building of screened porch with ezbreeze windows, and building of stairs to new patio area and those projects are listed at 30k. Not really understanding why ours was projected to be 56k+. I guess having some details in an estimate would answer that.

All “F’s” and we didn’t even have the opportunity to do any work? This seems highly punitive. This potential client (not actual client), demanded a detailed scope of work be sent over via email for a $50k project after one brief meeting with him on site. (That meeting was brief only because this potential client had to get on a conference call.) Unfortunately, it’s just too easy for people to take our details and knowledge presented in a scope (for free) and then shop that around to the lowest bidder. Sending out a scope of work on a $50k job after 15 minutes with the homeowner would be a disservice to the homeowner. The best way to get an appropriate, detailed scope of work is to have an appropriate, detailed meeting on site. For more complicated projects, that can take more than 1 meeting. Furthermore, we are happy to arrange meetings outside of our clients work schedule and do so all the time. If this client would like, I’d personally offer to come out any time they are not working. Please call our office and ask for Mike Luick. We will produce a detailed scope of work that will be reviewed in person. Once we can agree on the scope, we’ll ask for a deposit on the contract. At that time, all of the intellectual property we have on paper will be reproduced for dissemination. Thank you.

This is perhaps the most difficult review that I have ever done. The first visit from Greg (project manager) was excellent. He came up with some really good ideas and gave a nice presentation. During the initial meeting, I told him that the most important factor in a contractor is open communication and doing what you say. He gave me every assurance that he would be in constant communication during the process and the whole project would be 5-7 days. After considering other options, we went with Greg's bid. From there, things started to go south. First off, they team was one week late starting the project with no explanation. It was only after I called them that I found out that they were not coming on the promised date. I was told that they moved me because they did not get my deposit. I told the owner of the company that I was willing to pay 50% on the first day of work and 50% on the last day of the project, given its short duration. I told the owner that Greg said that it was ok and "we would work it out," but I was told that the policy is that without a deposit, you don't get schedule. That would have been fine, if I was told that my initial proposal was not acceptable. So, we started a week late. Long story, short for the next two months, it was a constant black hole of communication. If I had not actively been reaching out to find out when the next sub-contractor was coming, I would not have known a single thing. Most of the work was pretty good. We did have some quality issues with the wood work around the hot tub, but for the most part, the end result was fair.

We signed the contract on 3/14/2014 with work scheduled to occur on April 2nd 2014. Lumber and material were delivered and placed on driveway but it was for another project and not for ours. A call to Archadeck ensued in a discussion concerning the contract and that the contract was binding. After convincing Archadeck to send a supervisor to visually inspect the deliverey did they concede that there was a mistake. This caused an unnecessary delay in our project. The second delivery was corrected but included almost enough material to build another stair case. Even after multiple calls, this excess material sat in our driveway along with all the debris for over three weeks after the project was completed. The two individuals that built the stair case and installed the ceiling were both extremelly good carpenters, efficient and careful to cleam debris around the work area. The electricians were also professional and did a very good job. Unfortunately, the individuals that were sent to stain the stair case were incredibly sloppy (stained sidewalk) and ineffecient. With a stair case over 20 feet, Archadeck did not and would not paint the underside without an additional hefty charge. The contract did not state that they would or would not stain under the stairs so we requested the project supervisor to come out and see from the patio how hideous the stairs looked. While he was onsite we showed the many places where the painters missed. The contract also included two gates to be installed but were not built by the carpenters due to Archadeck not informing them. Again a call to Archadeck and the review of the contract confirmed that the gates were to be included. Yet again another delay to reschedule the carpenters and then to reschedule the individuals to stain the gates. We signed the original contract on 3/14/14 and wrote the last check the last of June, 2014. What we were led to believe was to be a simple project that wouldn't take any time to complete, took over three months. Never again!
Description of Work: Archadeck tore down an old stair case, approximately 20 feet in height and replaced with a new one. Archadeck also installed a new bead board ceiling under outdoor deck along with ceiling fan.

We were supposed to have them start on June 3. Then they said it would be June 10. They actually started on June 25. Then primary carpenter had a death in his family so they only worked 2 hours on the 1st day they came. Several days later another crew showed up and said that the deck was higher then what they were told so they would have to order more wooden supports and come back another day. They came back and their ladders were not high enough. My husband and I are both retired so are home most days. This made it easier for the crew as they needed to come through the house. We kept getting lumber deliveries on our driveway. Got a total of 3 deliveries The final construction crew was great. I was never told when anyone was going to show up. No one called or emailed me from the company although I sent a number of emails to them. The laborers really did a great job on the construction but had to anchor the new portion of the deck to the house so had to cut into drywall in basement to do that. The deck builders do not do dryway so I needed to get someone else out from Archadeck to repair the drywall. The deck was completed on July 3 Out of the blue with no advance notice to us, the drywall people showed up on July 9th. They did a very good job of drywall repair but they don't do painting so yet another crew would need to come out to paint the 12 ft long stretch of new drywall and also paint the deck and basement door landing and stairs. No one came. I begged. I threatened. I complained to the BBB. Then on Sunday, 7/13, my hubby and I returned home around noon to see a work van in our driveway (again, no advance notice). It was the painters. They did a great job of the painting. So all of the actual workers did a wonderful job. However, the scheduler was the pits. Would not keep us apprised of what was going on at all. If I was still working and had to take time off from my job for all of this I would have been fired! Their workers are great but their office staff is the pits.
Description of Work: Contract was an add on to rear elevated deck, a new landing and stairs to rear door, and application of solid stain to all.

The job took longer than estimated, but weather did play a part in this. The Archadeck Team have several jobs in play and it's a balancing act to keep them all going well and on schedule. Communication on status and when the team would be returning could have been a little better. However, we were very pleased with the final product and at a reasonable price. Greg Handslik who helped us with the design and options is very honest and did a great job taking care of us.
Description of Work: Converted rear deck to a screened (EZbreeze System) in porch.

The salesman was pleasant and punctual. The design he came up with seemed great. The fact that they wouldn't stand behind the quoted price was a real red light.
Description of Work: We got as far as signing the contract when they called to say the price had changed and our deck would be considerably more expensive than they had promised. We decided it would be in our best interest to just walk away.

Horrible. The workmanship is fine, but since they use mulitple contractors, they took forever to complete what we thought was a small project . The painters painted on a day it rained (weather forecast called for rain) and had to eventually be redone When digging posts for the arbor, they dumped the dirt on my garden plants and smothered them. They also cut the electrical wiriing to my path lighting and refused to fix. We found used caulking guns left in our gutters. Their communication is poor and they could care less if you are happy or not.
