Anthony & Sylvan Pools

I chose Anthony & Sylvan largely based on their warranty of the pool shell. Sounds all great until you have a problem. Our pool was built 7 years ago and we've had leaks ever since. Every time I contact them they drag out the entire process, each time taking months! They send a repair crew who isn't even knowledgeable about the location of the detected leaks. They scurry out and nobody checks a thing. I am on round 4 now and having to add water daily. I don't know how anyone with a conscience can work for a company like this. Don't let the slick salespeople fool you. Our same salesman is still employed at Anthony & Sylvan - he doesn't care about our issues any more than the Warranty Manager does.

Do NOT hire Anthony & Sylvan to build your pool! Take a look at all of the Better Business Bureau Complaints to get a good idea of the company culture and how impossible it is to get them to do the job right the first time, on time, or to stand behind their work. My pool: 1. Took them 2 years to build (they said it would take 8 months, its a rectangle) 2. They used plumbers that don't do pool plumbing (and they plumbed it wrong). 3. They inspected and signed off on the pool when the plumbing was totally wrong and water didn't even flow back into the pool. 4. The pipes underground were cracked and leaking when they signed off on the pool. 5. They denied that the water leaking out from under my pool could possibly be a leak, until they reluctantly came out to check it after fighting with them for almost 18 months. 6. Now they have agreed that there is a leak, agreed that the pool was never plumbed correctly in the first place, agreed that they signed off on it anyway (which is fraud). They are now slow-rolling the repairs to the plumbing and my travertine deck (said it would take a week, but we are at over a month now). The manager literally wrote me an email that said "we don't have any control over our subcontractors' schedules". No joke. No subcontractors want to work for them because they pay the lowest rates in the industry -so they only get the least experienced subs. Their "lifetime warranty" means that it will take a lifetime before they fix your pool.

Destroyed our AC and refuses to take responsibility for their actions. During the construction phase of our pool, back in August 2023. I noticed that the subcontractor damaged my mini-split air condition unit. They hit the unit hard enough to knock it off the pad that the unit was bolted down. They also crushed a corner of the metal housing. At the time, the unit was functioning, so I thought the damage was only cosmetic. I told the general contractor (Steven Lyszczyk) during one of the site visits, when I noticed the damage. I don’t have any proof of our conversation but I told him, not to worry about what is assumed was only cosmetic damage, because the unit was still working. However, when it got cold, it didn’t work. I had air conditioner tech come out and they said the unit was damaged and has been slowly leaking Freon. He said the damage happen when the unit was knocked over and crushed. The lines and the air conditioner coil were both leaking Freon. The leak was slow, which is why the full extent of the damage and that the unit would need to be repaired. The air conditioning company said due to the damage, they aren’t able to repair and must be replaced. This damage was done during the installation of my pool by your company. My general contractor says that this isn’t Anthony Sylvan Pool’s responsibility, but they did the damage. He claims that because I just realized the damage had happened, but it actually occurred in August that the company isn’t responsible. This is a newer unit, and was only three years old at the time of the damage. I’m willing to work with the company isn’t willing. Edit (3/15): They gave dodged our calls but finally picked up. The general manager (Michael Exum) has the same thing to say, not their problem.

Please trust the one star reviews and find another pool builder. Once the sale was made the hole was dug almost immediately, leading us to believe that this was going to be a smooth process. Absolutely not! The hole is a trap because at this point you are at their mercy. There are often weeks and sometimes months before we hear from anyone, or before another step in the process is scheduled. 5 months in and we are still living in a red mud mess with no end in sight. Our sidewalk is busted, the yard is destroyed on both sides, all natural areas are ruined, and existing patio is cracked just to name a few. The latest gift is that our retaining wall is now warped due to leaving 8+ feet of mud piles for over a month to get continually rained on. The equipment and weight of the mud distressed the wall and when asked about assistance with repair A&S has basically said not our problem. Beware, dishonest business tactics, incompetent project managers, and lack of any communication is what you are in for if you choose A&S to build your pool. WORST DECISION EVER

My family decided to create an amazing backyard. We were incredibly excited. Unfortunately, Anthony & Sylvan (Raleigh) managed to kill all our joy. They turned the project into 16 months of misery. A&S charged us about $130,000 for the project. This proved to be a premium price for a very poor overall customer experience. Communication from them was non-existent except when it triggered a payment. The Project Manager met me at the Kickoff meeting and then failed to communicate with me for 6 months. We had 3 separate delays that totaled 35 weeks of calendar time. Once the pool was filled we went through several more months of quality control issues. A leak, the electrical panel, the filter pump, 14 weeks to install finish items, and troubleshooting the heater 3x. Even after the pool was filled but we just could not get away from them. Do some searching online and through Facebook and you will discover entire groups of A&S pool owners who all share similar experiences.

Too many delays. But when it was all said and done?!! It was well worth the wait. They did an excellent job! Some of my neighbors who own pools and did not use A&S said they did a better job than the company they went with! That made my day, being this is our first pool. Thank you!

We had Anthony & Sylvan install our pool. We have had constant problems with the pool and spa since the pool was completed in Aug of 2021. Anthony & Sylvan will not correct any of these issues and I just received an email from Mike Exum ( the General Manager) stating that he will agree to drain our pool and remedy the issue that Anthony & Sylvan created but that we need to use our hose to fill our pool back up. This is a ridiculous statement. We cannot use our hose because it would take a week to fill the pool and be extremely costly. The Aqua-Duck water company states it will cost $2,100 to fill our pool with water. Water is included in the pool contract. Anthony & Sylvan put water in our pool when they were aware of the issue and they would have to drain it to remedy it. Now Anthony & Sylvan is saying they are going to correct the issue but we have to pay for water a second time! Our spa does not work correctly. We have a 12 jet spa. Only 6 of the 12 jets actually produce hot water after the hot tub reaches maximum temp of appx. 104 degrees. Anthony and Sylvan specifically told us in writing that they design spas this way on purpose. The other pool companies I spoke to refuse to do it this way and other pool companies don’t even understand why Anthony & Sylvan would do it this way. Anthony & Sylvan never disclosed to us that we would not have hot water in our hot tub after it reached max temperature of appx 104 degrees. If they did, then we obviously wouldn’t have agreed to let them build our spa. If you Google Anthony & Sylvan- you will notice they blocked Google reviews. Companies can pay to do this. Instead they link “Chamber of Commerce” reviews. The Chamber of commerce gives them 5 stars but if you read the reviews they aren’t all 5 stars. When you post on the Anthony & Sylvan website directly, they have it programmed to immediately post over you so that all the negative reviews on them get covered by ads. But if you take the time to look, you will see all the negative reviews. Anthony & Sylvan just makes it hard for you to find all the negative reviews but thousands are there all over the internet. Electric on our pool is not complete and I cannot get a CO. It’s been 18 months since my pool was completed. Anthony & sylvan refuses to remedy the situation so that we can get a CO. This is Anthony & Sylvan’s contractual obligation! We have had constant issues operating the pool equipment using the app. The app is the only way to operate the pool. I have asked several times for a remote control but they said they don’t recommend it and they will not give me a controller. I offered to pay for the controller but they still ignore these requests. They claim the controller will not work properly and cause more problems. They use a system named Jandy. Several other pool companies I called won’t use this system because of all the issues. If you do a quick Google search then you will see thousands of complaints on the Jandy system yet Anthony & Sylvan will only use this system. Things that happen with this system- you will shut the heater off but it will stay on indefinitely. You will pay for all that wasted gas/electric because the app doesn’t work correctly. Pool lights constantly different colors and never working correctly, no connection and always needed to reinstall the app………When I complained to Anthony & Sylvan numerous times, I was told in email by Justin Taylor (Warranty Manager) that my finger was sliding the buttons incorrectly. Yes folks I have a defective index finger! In addition to these very large issues there are numerous small ones like broken coping they never replaced, .hot tub tile issues, both interior and exterior ….

If I could give them company zero stars I would. I would NEVER recommend to use this company. If your project goes as planned, you probably ok. The minute something goes wrong, good luck getting them to take accountability and actually fix it and trying to reach someone that will actually call or email you back is impossible. No level of integrity from their subcontractors. This company only cares about their profit and not their customers. We’ve not only lost time and money, but we’ve lost the ability to trust their vision of “ We promise thorough communication throughout the entire process so you always feel in control.” A business that creates nothing but money, is a poor business. We absolutely love our pool built by Anthony & Sylvan. Bryan came up with a gorgeous design, and Adam did a great job overseeing the construction. I was so appreciative of the great communication keeping us in the loop during the entire process. The subcontractor they hired for the hardscaping was topnotch. Our property backs up to a golf course, and so many people have stopped to comment on what a gorgeous job they did. We have had several minor issues after completion (light malfunction and remote control antennae replacement) and had to submit warranty claims. Brody has come out and gone above and beyond to make repairs, but also to explain how to better utilize the equipment for maximum efficiency. He's very patient explaining things. We are so happy with the quality and service we have received and wouldn't hesitate to recommend (or use) Anthony & Sylvan in the future!

The end result made it all worth it! The process from start to finish didn't go without its fairshare of bumps, however, Anthony Sylvan and more specifically the project manager, Ray K., did what they could to rectify in a timely manner. Overall, we are pleased with the results and would engage AS again if the opportunity presented itself.

It went wonderfully. From the initial meeting and drawings and the way through construction and clean up, Anthony & Sylvan was excellent to work with. Particularly, Geoff has been extremely helpful in answering post construction and pool maintenance questions.

Our project was awesome! Anthony & Sylvan exceeded our expectations for our project. They told us what to expect, it went plus or minus according to schedule, and they managed the time for each subcontractor in a way that was really invisible to us. They sped up when they could, and in the end we are so happy with their performance! Highly recommend our designer Brian Montgomery and Tim Fournier our project manager.

Anthony & Sylvan Pools did an excellent job in providing a quality pool product. Their team remained highly focused on customer service and satisfaction through all aspects of the sales and build process. When any unexpected events occurred they were quick to action and remedy where needed to ensure commitments, expectations and timelines were maintained. I highly recommend this company.

We were very satisfied with our services. Ron our salesman was amazing anytime we needed him he was a phone call away and always making sure what we needed was happening and if not he was reaching out to whoever needed to help get it done. Berry out project manager was the same way Out at the job site at 7 am making sure everything was rolling and getting done he was also just a phone call away and ready to help if needed We are enjoying our pool every single day this summer. Looking for a nightmare of an experience with constant issues, meaningless communication, empty promises and a whole lot of finger pointing rather than problem solving? Look no further! This is your company. First, a salesman will come out and do just that! He will sell you a dream and says "absolutely" to anything you ask. You will be given a beautiful design rendition and get excited to start digging. Once the pool is dug, you will be greeted with the gunite crew who will track the concrete all over your pavers, play dice on your BBQ island and get the stuff all over your neighbors house. You can call your useless project manager or better yet send him a text and he will respond with something along the lines of "oh I will get someone to take care of that." Well, that someone will be you! Think things cant get any better? Nope! They can. Once the trenches are dug, if it rains, A&S will push things back. Makes sense. But here is the kicker. All that needed to be done was a small trench to drain the standing water and construction could continue. Shoot your project manager a note on the matter and he will let you know that the water just needs to evaporate. Common sense says to pump it or give it a way to drain right? Wrong. You will be digging the trench to drain the water yourself but the good thing in this case, you will get a "thanks" back in response. Want to keep working on your own pool? Sure thing. Wait for the electricians and the plumbers to come out. They do not line anything up or make it straight. You can contact your project manager again and he will tell you "we will take care of it later." I don't know much about plumbing, but pipes cant just be pushed nearly 8" to suddenly be lined up properly. In case you were wondering, they had to redo it after several weeks of back and forth. You can call your project managers boss and request an onsite meeting to which 3 guys will come in polo shirts and 2 will blow smoke up you rear end and the 3rd cant be bothered and will play on his phone the whole time. Nothing will get accomplished but you will be told "everything will be taken care of." Don't worry! It wont. Things will get better when the contractors leave a bunch of trash daily and no one will take responsibility. There will be a lot of "not my guys" or "we never leave garbage" being said but the tone will change when you note that you have a Ring camera system that has documented all of your claims. Shout out to Ring! I highly recommend their services and products. I digress, back to this company. This crap show will continue when the graders note that they will not do what the rendition shows because it will look terrible and was actually unattainable given the gradient of the yard. Its fairly comical that none of this was taken into consideration prior. Moving along, you will get probably one trade that is competent. In our case it was the mason guys. They spent a lot of time fixing the gunite unevenness and the grade issues. The pebble tech guys were in and out quickly. There was an end in site. Not a chance. A&S tells you to fill your pool, scrub it and then puts you into email only land. Tons of outstanding issues, but they got their final payment and couldn't care less. A nice guy will come out and give you pool school. He is redeeming for the company, but doenst change that when asked where our "welcome kit" was, found out it was back ordered. I sent the office coordinator an email asking where the kit was and she sent me back a picture of a scrub brush on our island and said "you got this." I did in fact get that but that is NOT THE KIT. Have some pending issues and guess what? Everyone went silent! Save yourself the headache and literally go with any other company than this one.

Although the project got behind schedule, it was worth the wait. We love our beautiful new pool! Our designer and project manager were great, and we would use them again in a heartbeat!

the best five stars I will give it to our project manager (Ray) his absolutely the best, answering questions about anything, he doesn't forget about you when they finish the project. Always with the best attitude and has the answer for all your questions .

Ray our project manager was instrumental in keeping our project running smoothly and on schedule! He was also available for questions after hours! Geoff that did our pool school Was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Our pool looks great!

Overall it went well. We had some scheduling delays. Once each 'team' got here, they worked quickly to get their part completed. The one critique I will give is they are good at what they do but should care more about the client/client property. Anthony & Sylvan Pools always promise to make it right. We're happy now that we finally have our pool. At the end of the day we would hire them again and recommend them to others.

The overall project went very well and everyone was very pleasant to work with. They met the deadline even with issues with recurring rainfall. I would recommend them.

A+ experience from day one! We had nothing short of an excellent experience with Anthony & Sylvan here in Greater Raleigh! Since the first design meeting with Brandon McNamara, to the completed product with Sam Snipes leading the project management efforts, we have been thrilled and excited about our pool. Their reputation as a company has proven to be spot on and they hit every project milestone with accuracy and efficiency, without sacrificing the quality that they promised. Not only did they do their jobs, but they became trusted advisors throughout the process. Highly recommend and thank you very much!

We are extremely pleased with the job Anthony & Sylvan did with our inground swimming pool installation. Our designer, Brian Montgomery, spent a lot of time with us to get the design right. Our Project Manager, Jake Driver, was extremely responsive. He was very good about keeping me informed and he always answered my calls & Texts immediately when I had a question. The support staff in the office did a great job of keeping us informed about all the steps along the way. The project was finished on time even though they had some water issues with our property that I expected to delay the project but this was not the case. I would and have, highly recommend Anthony & Sylvan for your swimming pools & spa needs.
