Ceramic Tile, Flooring Sales and Installation, Plumbing

About us

My name is Mack Adams and I thank you for taking this moment to review my Company Profile. I pride myself on being a tile repair specialist, do all my own work, and take great pride in the end result. A ceramic repair should be practically invisible and should last for years. I can be difficult to reach because I leave my phone in my truck when working. I try to give 100% of my attention to the job that I am currently working on. If I can help phone me at 704-619-4526 and leave a message. I will try to get back to you within a day, two at most. I do not perform entire tile job installations, and that allows me to focus on my expertise of high-quality repairs. Please do not contact me via the Angie's List Message Center.

Mack was great! Very professional. He worked over the phone with me via photos to do an initial assessment then was able to get me worked in quickly. He was right on time, emailed the day prior to confirm and called me on his way over. He also walked me through exactly what needed to be done and how long it would take. Would definitely use him again.

Fast and cheap?no. Mack Adams is the only employee of Adams tile and he stays booked several months in advance. We has a large shower with no structural issues, but badly stained after 18 years of exposure to well water. With elbow grease, stripping pads, razor blades, and muriatic acid and about 11 hours of hard work?the shower looks almost new. So, if you want it done correctly the first time, put you name on Mack's list.

He did a very good job. It was not a simple job, because the previous contractor did some really poor quality job, but everything seems to have been resolved. We had one little issue, but he was very good about coming back out, and taking care of it. We had the bathroom done about 3 or 5 years ago, and we had to have it redone. He was very easy to work with. I had paid the last contractor 5000 Dollars, and the work was very poor quality, so the price for this was very good. He was very good about fitting us around his other jobs, and he knew what he was doing. We would use him in the future.
Description of Work: We used Adams Tile Repair Co. He had to remove the shower base in the master bath, down to pretty much the subflooring, and lay the plan, relay the tile, add a rest bench and he did a reseal.

Mack Adams came out in July and assessed the job...then we spoke about a start date in October, as he was already booked up. He called me on Monday, Oct. 14th to say he could start my job on that Friday, Oct 18th. He finished up on Tuesday Oct. 22nd. He replaced the tile etc. in the wall where the plumber had knocked it out in order to put in new faucets for the shower. He caulked etc. and did a marvelous job in the master bath. Mack did some caulking etc. in my other bathroom upstairs. Mack is very professional and personable. His rates are very fair. I will indeed call him when I am ready to fix up my third bathroom that is on the first floor of my home.

Mack was on time, performed the work as expected and cleaned up the area afterward. The work included removing all existing grout and then re-grouting and sealing. He even pushed down a tile that had lifted a bit. It was definitely labor intensive work and the shower looks really good--reminds us of when we bought the house!
Description of Work: He refreshed our fully enclosed, tiled steam shower. After 10 years, we found it was getting harder and harder to remove the mildew on the grout. It needed professional attention.

Mack did an excellent job in replacing the chaulking around two tubs and ceramic enclosures. When I first call he informed me that he was booked until September. When I told him that there was a leak through the ceiling below he said that he would come over to take a look and see if he could squeeze me in. Two days later he came to see the project and was able to come that Saturday to fit me in. He was prompt, professional and did an excellent Job. I do not praise easily and this is my first review for anything.

We hired Mac because he had done work with very good results for us at a previous location. Unfortunately, we did not have the same good results this time. Mac came to survey the work areas and provided quote so he would know exactly what was to be done. One shower had bad grout that was rubbery-like and neeed rework. He did get rid of the rubbery-like substance that was in the grout lines, but chipped up the tiles surrounding the drain. He did recaulk the kichen backsplashes and they looked fine, after one year they already need redone. He regrouted the master shower and that work looked fine when he was done, one area there also needs reworked after one year. This interior work was completed in February 2012 On the exterior porch, he suggested water was penetrating the grout lines so he regrouted to help seal them. He said this might take more than one treatment, we would have to evaluate after some time and he could come back in the future to re-treat to (over time) resolve the issue. This work he performed in June 2012. He was there for days, typically between about 10 or 11 AM and 2 PM. I don't object to his short work days because they are very intense, but when he, at the end of this project, said the job had taken him longer than he'd planned, he charged me more money than originally quoted. He told me this work had been frustrating for him. I believe his added charge was unfair. He is an experienced tile worker. He was at the job site to provie a quote so he could see exactly what the job involved. If he was unsure, he should have said upfront that he would bill on exact time and material. Waiting until after he is done and then adding money for labor doesn't seem right, but I paid it. Even though I provided him with exact grout names and when asked, I told him yes, I wanted him to match the existing grout, he applied a much darker material to the exterior porch, so that it does not match the under roof portion where he did not treat. He also left the final day with a heavy glaze on the entire exterior porch which I had to scrub (multiple times) to remove from the tile. The end results were no improvement and I paid about $600 for that portion of the work. Despite being instructed to use our laundry sinks for his water source and cleaning instead of our stainless sinks, he used my stainless sinks and scratched them beyond repair. He said oh yes, you did tell me that. No I'm sory, no offer to remedy my marred sinks. I do not like writing negative reviews. Based on the work Mac did for us a few years back, I expected the same quality. We did not get that. Mac is a nice person, but I did not invite Mac back to rework, and would not hire him in the future based on this performance.
Description of Work: We asked Mac to regrout a shower floor, touch up calking/grout in another shower, kitchen backsplash and for ideas to help control standing water on a low spot on exterior porch.

To find and fix the leak, plus repair the grout, Mack had to remove the semi-frameless glass shower enclosure, and we were going to have the company that originally installed the shower come out and reinstall the enclosure. He found the base rail under the shower door had been caulked on both the inside and outside, so even though the weep holes were clear, water below the level of the weep holes had no way to drain out. The grout had failed under the door at the wall, and had allowed leakage into the wall behind the baseboard between the shower door and the entrance door. He removed the 12-inch section of baseboard and cut out the sheetrock behind it, and we could see the mildew on the back of the baseboard, sheetrock, and bottom frame of the wall. I used straight Clorox and killed all mildew on the wall base, and confirmed (using a light and mirror) that there was no further mildew or mold inside the wall. Mack was to replace the section of sheetrock and baseboard. He replaced the sheetrock, but cleaned and then repainted the baseboard on all surfaces, inside and out, and reinstalled it. He then repaired all grout in the bathroom using a different product and method: he dug out the grout as much as he could, then replaced it with mortar, then colored the mortar with spray enamel, using mineral spirits to clean up all the overspray. He did a very good job of finding the leak and repairing the tile so the leak would not recur, which is why the quality of his work was not graded a "D" or "F." The remainder of his work was not good. The grout in the shower and bathroom does look better, as it is now a consistent color throughout, and should last longer. However, he was unable to completely clean off all overspray from the tile. Instead, he spent several hours basically smearing the paint over most of the tile, with the result being the tile is now a slightly darker color, not uniform, and even "splotchy" in areas. Water no longer beads up and runs off the tile inside the shower, so it appears perhaps any glazing was removed. Mack is a very nice guy, and insisted he could save us some money by letting him reinstall the glass enclosure, so we let him do it. He would be fine reinstalling a fully-framed enclosure, but does not know how to reinstall a semi-frameless one where two of the glass panels are joined directly together. He first ran a bead of clear caulk along the end of one panel, then pressed the other panel to it (which is not the way to join them). This caused caulk to be smeared on the inside and outside of both glass panels. He then installed the top frame and "bumper strips" to help secure the two panels, then ran a bead of caulk along the inside of the two panels and inside bottom of the panels where the glass met the tile. He then roughly ran his finger along all beads of caulk, unevenly smearing caulk over the two panels and tile. He then spent several more hours trying to clean the caulk off the glass, again using mineral spirits, and even though some areas of the panels looked better, there was actually a thin coat of caulk over most of the panels. Again trying to help, he noticed that a small portion of caulk on our granite countertop backsplash had separated, so he re-caulked it. However, it was a very sloppy bead and he left some strips of clear caulk smeared on the countertop. We had the company that originally installed the shower come out, but they were unable to clean the panels. We had to replace both stationary glass panels in the shower enclosure at a cost of $300. In general, Mack knows how tiled showers should be built, but he really should stick with "tried and true" repair methods and not experiment on his customers using new ways. And if he wants to continue reinstalling shower enclosures, he should take the time to learn the proper way to do it from a professional. It is now July 8, and I need to update this rating. I downgraded the overall experience, price, quality, and professionalism to an "F." The enamel paint Mack used to color and seal the "grout" (mortar) is now washing away inside the shower, so about half the "grout" inside the shower is now mortar-colored while the rest is still a shade of medium brown. Obviously, the "grout" is not really sealed. He protected the vertical joints (where wall meets wall) from leaking by running a bead of clear caulk over the "grout," but did nothing to protect the horizontal joints (where walls meet floor). Where the wall meets the floor next to the shower door, the "grout" is now cracked and mold or mildew is starting to grow in the crack. So in many respects we're back to where we started before paying Mack's high price, and we still have to find someone who actually knows what they're doing to fix the mess Mack left us. This has been a very frustrating experience, as well as a complete waste of $1900 and a lot of time.
Description of Work: We were occasionally smelling a slight mildew odor which appeared to be coming from the wall next to our shower by the door leading from our master bedroom into the bathroom. We suspected the tiled shower was leaking into the wall. Mack was to find the source of the leak, fix it, and also repair the grout in the shower and entire master bathroom, which had been installed incorrectly when the house was built seven years ago. He started on 3/4/2013 and finished on 3/8/2013.

Our experience was great! Mack was friendly, knowledgable, and worked with our timeframe. He knew how to meet our tile needs while staying within our budget. Our shower grout makes the whole shower look brand-new and sparkling. Plus, it's now much easier and better to clean versus the old, moldy grout. Overall, his work has made our bathroom looks much nicer and cleaner. If we have any other tile or grouting needs, we will call Adams Tile Repair.

He has an unusual method of repairing tile that I was very skeptical about, but he did a beautiful job and the "grout" fixes match perfectly. He worked quickly and did a few things that I hadn't even asked him to do, as he was waiting for the job to dry.
Description of Work: We had some ceramic floor tiles in our master bath that were slightly loose due to cracked and loose grout, a few places where just the grout was cracked out, some very moldy caulking and a few other related problems. Mack fixed everything.

Mack came out very quickly to give us a quote for the work, but because it would take 3-4 days, it would be about a month before he could do the work. This was fine with us, because it was not an emergency, and no one used those bathrooms at this time. He did come at a later date we agreed on, and was finished in about 4 days. He worked most mornings, then left to let things dry out for the next day. I was very comfortable with just giving him a key while I was at work. Although the one bathroom was more work than he had first thought it would be, he stuck by his original quote. He cleaned up the area when he finished, and even tightened the plumbing fixtures, and cleaned out a slow drain. I would definitely use him again, and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Mack made our 2 guest bathrooms look like new. In one bathroom after years of use by teenagers, he had to regrout the entire shower and part of the tile floor. In the other bathroom he had to regrout areas of the shower . The floors were white tile, with (what used to be white grout). He painted, or colored, the grout to look white again.

Mac came out and gave me an estimate for repair. We scheduled a time, and he was very accommodating when I had to reschedule. He arrived at the designated time and fixed both bathrooms and then had to leave after several hours. I paid him in full at the time, although he said that I could make partial payment because he needed to come back again. He said that he would return because he was not completely satisfied with the way it looked. After a couple of rescheduling attempts, he came out and finished the job. Mac communicated well and I would hire him again.

Disappointed after reading such good reviews from the phone call.
Description of Work: I called the phone number that was listed on Angie's List on a Sunday morning expecting to leave a message for someone to call me back on Monday. The owner, Mack, picked up the phone. He wasn't rude, but curt and asked that I call him back Monday morning. I understand it was a Sunday, but he answered the phone and I thought it wasn't professional, nor friendly that he wouldn't at the very least take down my name or phone number, thank me for calling and tell me that he would call me on Monday. We were pleased over all. Adams Tile Repair came out quickly and was prepared to do the job the same day he came out for an estimate.
Description of Work: When we bought our house, the ceramic tile shower had cracks in the grout around the base and going up the walls. Our inspector recommended getting this fixed. Originally, we hired a contractor to do several jobs around the house including fixing these cracks. He put caulk over the cracked grout and we were happy with the job done. However, 4 months later, mold showed up on the caulk. I cleaned it and it came back over and over. After 6 months the caulk came away from the wall. This is when we called Adams Tile Repair. Mack Adams, the owner, came out removed the caulk and replaced with grout mortar. It looks so much better and he made the color perfectly match the original grout work. We haven't used the shower yet because it needs time to dry/cure. Finally, he repaired cracks we didn't know we had around the drain. When he did that he also unclogged the drain for us. A service we weren't even expecting. We are very happy with his work and will use him again.

Mr. Adams is an outstanding contractor. I believe that, because of his history of exemplary work, he is also a very busy one! He took a significant amount of time during our first meeting to assess the level of work that would be needed to remove mold in some of the shower grout. He showed up on time for that appointment, and for every subsequent time he was expected. After assessing the work needed to accomplish the goal of a mold- and grime-free shower enclosure, he explained in detail what exactly he would be doing to meet that goal. Although we were anxious and ready for him to begin our project immediately, due to his prior project commitments it would be roughly 6 weeks before he could return. We are happy to report that the result was definitely worth the wait! Our project took approximately three 4-5 hour work days on his part. He meticulously removed existing tiles, cleaned them without breakage, restored the wallboard behind them, and replaced them. Then he cleaned the shower pan (which was terribly dingy despite cleaning attempts, and had the look of needing replacement for a very long time) and installed new grout. All new, and well-cleaned, grout was sealed with the appropriate product. At the end of each workday, he left the area very clean so that we were able to use the sinks in the bathroom. These were the qualities we were looking for in a person to do this job, and these are the qualities which Mac Adams demonstrated: attention to detail; ability to deliver top-quality work at a reasonable price; honesty and dependability; a verifiable history of having completed similar projects. Mr. Adams runs a business model to be emulated, with strong ethical behavior backing it up. If more repair/improvement contractors were of this caliber, the average homeowner would not experience angst when the time comes to hire someone to complete repairs! We are grateful for a resource such as Angie's List to help in the process of vetting the individuals and companies who are paid hard-earned money to complete a task we are unable to do ourselves.
Description of Work: Mr. Adams was hired to remove, reclaim, and replace roughly 1/2 of the shower tile in the master bathroom of our 24-year-old home. In addition, he was asked to restore the original fiberglass shower floor, which definitely showed it's age, to a close-to-new state. Lastly, the tile surrounding the garden tub was in need of cleaning to bring a sense of cohesiveness to the fixtures in the shower/tub area of the bathroom.

Mack did great work. He arrived on time and took only two days to do the work (one day to remove the failing tile and clean the area and allow it to try, and one to perform the work). I had ceramic tile in my shower whose grout had failed and was coming off of the wall and allowing water to penetrate and leak out of the shower. Mack removed all of the failing tile, reinstalled it, then cleaned and restored all of the grout in my shower and in the tub in my bathroom. You can tell that he cares about his work; I'd definitely use him again.
