Horrible! Don't Use Them!!! Please Read This! They ruined my furniture and won't return any of my calls! I wish I never used this company. My first conversation with Harry (the owner of the company) I asked him if he was bonded and insured, he said yes. He asked me how big my home is that I'm moving out of and how many bedrooms. I told him how big my home was and how many rooms I had. Harry and his crew of 3 men showed up at my home at 9:30 am, an hour late. They didn't leave my home until 2:30 a.m. the following day! Harry sat in his car the entire time while two men were moving all the furniture and one man stayed at the truck arranging how all the furniture would fit. Harry not only brought a truck that was WAY too small, but he had other items in it! I didn't know he had these items taking up room in his truck until the 2nd trip to my home when I saw the crew take a trundle bed, two chairs and a desk out in order to fit all my stuff so they didn't have to take a 3rd trip. I'm paying them $95 an hour. They damaged so many things of mine, I'm still sick to my stomach over it. Our sectional couch was to go down in our basement, it was broken up in pieces for an easier move. Instead of taking the door off the hinges they forced the pieces of the sectional through the door opening and completely damaged the wall and the entire backside of my sectional, beyond repair other than getting the couch completely reupholstered. They also got a piece of our sectional stuck in the doorway for an hour! No exaggeration, I timed it because I was paying for it. They smartened up when they moved our chair down and took the door to our basement off the hinges and took our front door off the hinges. The chair moved down with ease, but by the time they got the chair down there, my golden yellow chair had four black spots on it the size of my fist. It was July in NC when they moved us, so it was hot. But they did nothing to keep their sweating under control by wiping their heads with a towel. I had to get all my upholstery professionally cleaned because they had continuous drops of seat falling from their head on to our furniture. It was raining sweat, no joke, it was that bad. Then I saw both of them rest their head on my couch and my mattress while they were moving it! My upholstery items smelled so bad it would make anyone gag. We have expensive high-end furniture we have collected through the years. Our entertainment unit, my desk, my husband's desk, our coffee table, our kitchen table, our bookcase and my Pulaski bedroom set (bed frame, end tables, a dresser and chest of drawers) all have gashed and large scratches on them. We did not see the extent of the damage until they left and we inventoried everything. My husband bought a $50 bookcase from Lowes and it was completely destroyed. One side of it was literally snapped in half. We had to throw it away. My Pulaski bed frame is formal, with lots of scrolls engraved and one big scroll on the top center of the frame......it completely popped off! Just broke right off. I couldn't help but cry. I asked Harry to please find the scroll and I will glue it back on. I told him it was so important, how expensive it was and I would forget about the other damaged items if he would find scroll the broke off so I could glue it back on. He said he would definitely find it and give it to me. That never happened. At 2:00 a.m. they finished moving everything and told us they were done and wanted to get paid. They were going to leave without putting any furniture together and without putting our doors back on the hinges! Yes, they were going to leave with our front door leaning up against our home. My husband told them they weren't going anywhere until they put both the door back up, until they put our sectional together (they were leaving it in pieces scattered in our basement) and until they put our bedframe together (they were leaving our bedframe in pieces and our matrass and box spring leaning up against our bedroom wall .) They Left at 2:30 a.m., but not before I reminded Harry and each crew member individually about the missing scroll. They assured me they would find it and mail it to me. I called Harry 2 days later (on Sunday) to follow up regarding the scroll and all our furniture that was damaged. I told him that I wanted all my furniture repaired. I reminded him that he told me during our first phone conversation he was bonded and insured, and I would like him to file my damaged items with his insurance company. He stuttered on his words but said OK. He said that he would call his insurance company the next day on Monday to get it resolved. I called Harry on Monday to find out how everything was to be handled and he didn't answer his phone so I left him a VM. I called again on Tuesday and left a VM. And again on Thursday and again on Friday, leaving a VM every time I called. On the 6th phone call and VM I started to let him know that if he didn't return my calls I would take legal action. Still not return call. I decided to call from a different number and what do ya know, he picks up the phone on the second ring. He tells me he's been in the hospital and is still in the hospital due to his diabetes and he got his big toe removed. He said he would be getting out of the hospital later in the week and will give me a call when he left. A week later, still no return call. I called another 6 or 7 times and left VM each time. Then I had my husband call from his number and what do ya know, Harry answered his phone. My husband started in on Harry right away and Harry said he was back in the hospital and would call when he got out in a few days. We have called numerous times since then and left VM's with no return call from Harry. I'm sorry for such a long story, but I wanted everyone to know what happened to me. In fact, I joined Angie's List when I noticed A1 Affordable movers was on Angie's List, just so I could leave this review and let everyone know the kind of company Harry owns. Working with A1 Affordable movers was a huge mistake and a huge regret that I have to live with every day when I see my damaged furniture. Please don't every hire them!!!!
Description of Work: They moved me from one home to a new home (approx. 20 minutes from each other).

While the move went well for the most part, we found that most of our boxes ended up in one room upstairs as opposed to the rooms that they were clearly marked for. It was if they took a pile of boxes from the truck and put them in the room that was marked on the box that was at the top of the pile. This meant a lot of extra work for us and that was the reason we hired a moving company as opposed to moving ourselves.
Description of Work: We used A-1 to move us into our new 2 story home.
