Hello, I've called 3 times about the estimate that was done on my property. The same young lady keeps saying she's going to contact the guy who came out to my house and then reach back outto me. Still haven't heard back from themeither of them. I am going to move on to a different company. If that's honestly the best service you can provide, then you should've probably stopped at the 1st generation.

My review of this company is a conundrum. The workers are dedicated, hard-working, and courteous individuals that produce excellent results. The project management/billing procedures were unprofessional and rustrating if not insulting. I found 4th Generation on Angie’s List and contacted them for an estimate to remove ivy from our residential property. Josh was scheduled (and was confirmed) to come out at 4:30pm on Thursday, but instead showed up at 2pm while I was at work. I had to explain over the phone the details of the project, and he was unable to provide me even a ballpark estimate. We did have a LOT of ivy, but this company specializes in ivy removal, so you would expect them to be able to provide at least a ballpark estimate. Hesitantly, I agreed to let them attack it for four hours ($800) and make a determination from there on how to proceed. After another call at the four hour mark, I agreed to let them finish the whole day Friday. The workers did a great, thorough job, and made a good dent in the ivy. Josh asked me if I could pay by check, and I provided him a check for the full $1800. Josh contacted me Saturday morning asking if they could come back that day and work on it some more; I agreed. They arrived on time and continued their great work. I asked Josh to pay by card on this job, but he would not allow me stating I had to pay by check. The workers on-site told me customers pay by card all the time and payment wasn’t even due immediately, but Josh told me I had to pay by check. Then, he told me I could pay by card on any following jobs?! How can you just make up rules on when certain payment methods are accepted? You either accept a form of payment or you don’t. I just bit my tongue and wrote him another check for $1400. Josh contacted me again Monday morning asking if they could come back out and work more on it. I asked him to provide me an estimate of time remaining since I was already in for $3200; he agreed to call me at 10am when he arrived on site and with 4 men. At 2:30pm, he finally calls me and says they’ve had 5 guys working on it for 4 hours and need 2 more hours to finish. Frustrated, I asked him why he added another man to the job without asking and why he did not call at 10am as promised. His reply to adding 5th man - “it’s just another few hundred dollars”. Seriously? You can’t just change our agreement without checking and then have the audacity to tell me it’s just a few hundred dollars extra out of my wallet. Again, I bit my tongue and told him to just finish the job. I just attributed it to Josh being young and I thought maybe he doesn’t have a great deal of experience yet; overall he was pleasant to talk to and friendly, but I did not appreciate the way he handled things. Later, Josh texted me asking to contact Kathy to submit card payment, which I planned to do the next day during business hours. The next morning, Josh and/or Kathy call, text, and voicemail me no less than 5 times between 8am and noon, while I’m in meetings at work, trying to get me to submit payment for work that was completed 18 hours ago. They acted worse than a collection agency with the unnecessary, borderline harassing phone calls in such rapid succession. I had to step out of my meeting to let Josh know I would call Kathy on my lunch break. Of course, when I call Kathy, she’s not in the office nor able to take my payment. Josh then asks me for my name and email so they can invoice me. Why couldn’t they just act like a normal company and do that the first time, or second time, or third time? Ironically, the online invoice clearly accepts card payments and shows they have a Net 30 day payment policy (meaning you have up to 30 days to pay for provided services without penalty/interest). So why in the world is Josh blowing up my phone less than 4 hours into the work day after service completed? And why could they not invoice me for previous work? The whole thing was quite unprofessional and the way they treated me from a customer service perspective after spending $4700 in four days, makes me not want to deal with them again. That is a shame, because the workers are fantastic (and have better customer service skills than management). There are a lot of great reviews for this company, and I wish I could have been another, but the lack of following an agreement, not following their own payment policies, and acting crazy like a collection agency when I’ve done nothing but pay them immediately for thousands of dollars worth of work (and even bought the workers lunch one day) ruined it. Maybe you’ll have better luck if you choose them; maybe I just am an anomaly. Five stars for the workers; 2 stars for management.

Dave's crew did a fantastic job. I had large areas that had become overgrown with ivy, poison ivy, volunteer tree shoots, many weeds in general, looked awful, and the crew pulled them all out by the root so they wouldn't grow back. It was A LOT of work and they did it non-stop. When they were done, those areas looked amazing and I was so impressed with their hard work. I still can't get over the extent of the weeds that needed to be removed and how great it all looks now. They also put down a thick layer of mulch. These guys all worked so hard and I'm so happy with the results. Terrific job all around. Dave guarantees the work and stands by it. I would definitely hire them again.

No they are not responsive, not to the ones they do not want to service. I had to call twice to get someone to call back. Then when I had to reschedule due to an emergency, I could not get that person who did the scheduling. I just had to leave a message. No one answers the phone, you always get the same VRU and you have to leave a message. This is not good. I think if a business wants to advertise here at Angie's they need to have a 'store front' which means that every customer can get a reply in a reasonable amount of time. What they are doing is screening calls for selective servicing based on their current business situation. They may be the greatest business in the world and I am sure that all who had the pleasure of being helped legitimately think so, but to me it seems to be a crap shoot.

On our initial call we set an appointment for the following week for an estimate. The owner showed up right on time and went over everything needed and gave me an instant price, we scheduled for the next available time. The work team showed up when scheduled and began work immediately, they did a thorough job of removing weeds, etc. exactly as requested. Afterward they installed mulch with the best results I've seen, it all looks very professionally done and should prove maintenance free for a good while. I will definitely call David and his team when we need additional landscape work performed.

I highly recommend 4th Generation Landscaping & Design. We used them for delivering and spreading approximately 74 cu yards of mulch as well as clearing out about 800 sq ft of monkey grass and brush overgrowth (by hand). The communication ahead of time and during the project were great. The cost estimate was slightly lower than other estimates, and I'm certain the service we received was far superior. The crew was very friendly (even a neighbor remarked on this). The completed project looks great. We would definitely contract with 4th Generation again.

4th Generation Landscaping did a phenomenal job removing a lot of unwanted ivy and cutting back overgrown areas in my yard. Not only did they do great work, but they did it the old fashioned way to make sure it was taken care of permanently and safely. Everything from the initial estimate to the actual work was done with the upmost professionalism, timely, and exceptional results. The crew worked from sun ip to sun down and kept me posted on the progress they were taking as did Dave (owner) who made sure things were completed not only up to my expectations but his as well. I will definitely hire these guys again for any landscaping projects and can’t recommend them enough!

I have been using Dave and his crew for over 10 years to maintain my landscaping and yard work. These guys are professional and detail oriented. They are one of a few companies that pull the weeds and ivy by the root and it has been one of the key reasons that I have stayed with this company throughout the years. They really know there stuff. The mulch is a quality mulch that last and gives me a great curb appeal. My yard has won yard of the month several times! I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for reliable, trustworthy, and professional landscaping.

The results exceeded my expectations. The company was EXTREMELY responsive through all phases of the project (estimation, scheduling, work, followup). My job was supervised by a site manager who kept me informed at all times. During each progress review, the site manager ensured that I was satisfied with the work and he was willing to redo whatever I was unhappy with. Given that the weed removal services are based on an hourly rate per worker, the site manager alerted me whenever the team was on breaks or at lunch. Speaking of the team, its members were constantly, and I do me constantly, working. There was ZERO evidence of anyone, including the site manager ever slacking off at any time. I really feel that the team earned every penny of their rate. The same applied to the application of mulch. The entire team worked hard and without delay. Regarding the actual job, it consisted of the clearing of weeds and ivy from several large beds. The team removed all weeds, including the ivy by hand. The ivy was removed, as promised, by the root. Note that the ivy had been growing for more than 20 years and so was extensive. They also spread a 4-inch deep layer of mulch on all cleared beds. This required 72 cubic yards (1,944 square feet) of mulch. I am extremely pleased with the work performed by everyone at 4th Generation and highly recommend their services. If you want the job done right the first time, I strongly urge you to consider 4th Generation. I have attached pictures of the before and after views of one bed that 4th Generation rehabilitated. I have also attached a picture of one other area that was cleaned up by their team. It is representative of the entire job.

I paid a total of $5,046.62 directly to 4th Generation Landscaping for materials and labor of all landscaping work plus an additional $838.95 for the purchase of the grass sod, as previously agreed. Work was performed from April 2, 2019 to April 23, 2019 and included trimming all shrubs, redefining all landscape beds, install plastic on all landscape beds, install mulch throughout all beds, remove all bushes along front and side sidewalks and install grass sod. Took 3 weeks to perform a job that should've taken a week at the most. Any time there was a remote chance of rain, they did not work. Even if it didn't rain. The grass sod was installed on April 23rd and was watered daily for the next 10 days. Within 3-4 days, the grass sod started to turn from green to brown and steadily started to die. Within two weeks the majority of the grass sod installed was dead. I contacted Mr Bey of 4th Generation Landscaping via text message and sent him photos of the current state of the grass sod on May 11, 2019 and the communication from him over the next few weeks was unsatisfactory. He would not take ownership of the result of the sod so I then contacted Super Sod (the manufacturer of the grass sod) and had their turf consultant come on site on May 28th to review the sod installed by 4th Generation Landscaping on April 23rd. Upon inspecting the sod, there were roots, rocks, and other debris found underneath the sod and it was determined that the ground had not been properly prepped for sod installation which is why the freshly installed grass began to die days after installation. I have photos of before and after work and all work in between. Mr Bey's only response was that I did not have an irrigation system despite the sod being watered daily by hose and sprinklers. His offer to resolve was to aerate and plant grass seed in place of the grass sod installation. Planting grass seed is not comparable to installing freshly grown and cut grass sod. His dishonesty and lack of accountability was very disappointing and I'm forced to take legal action thru small claims court. The landscapers also dumped some of the debris removed from the sidewalk onto the back of my yard instead of disposing of it properly off site.

When I originally came out (early Spring) and met with (member name removed) and gave him the quote for the landscape cleanup, which entailed cleaning up your landscape beds, installing the landscape fabric in your beds, installing mulch, trimming back your shrubs, and also removing shrubs by the root, he asked me about sod and I let him know then that I specialized in everything except for sod. (member name removed) was adamant about us installing the sod anyway. Because he insisted on us doing it anyway I told him that we would purchase the sod and that he would reimburse us for the cost of the material upon reciept. We also picked up the proper soil to prep the sod properly, from super sod in Pineville NC and then made a second trip back to the same Super sod in Pineville, hauled it all the way to (member name removed) residence, which is an hour distance as well as wear and tear on my vehicle to try and help (member name removed) out. We also spoke about the fact that the timing for installing the sod was not the right time especially being that he didn’t have an irrigation system in place to keep it watered properly. (member name removed) also went out of town during the time of the installation. When we put the sod down it was healthy and green. The sod had not been properly watered for two days. (member name removed) even stated that due to him being out of town that he was not able to water the sod. When (member name removed) paid me the final payment for the landscape project he was happy and he told me that everything was great. Two weeks after we finished the project he called and told me that the sod was dying. I made a trip back out to his property to take a look at what was going on and saw that half of the sod was alive and half of it was already dead. To rectify the situation I offered to come back out during the fall and aerate, seed, fertilze, and lime the area at no additional charge. Also I stated that I am willing to offer a 30 day guarantee that if the grass doesn't grow that we will come back out and reseed in areas that doesn't take, but only if he was to get an irrigation system installed.

Wonderful! Dave and crew were always on time, performed the tasks required and with top quality service. While the rain delayed the completion, as expected, 4th Generation was on site as soon as it was dry enough to get to the natural areas. Dave was on top of the job and alerting us to when the rain delays prevented work. I cannot say enough about the team (8 guys), they were hard working, friendly and most accommodating. This was a fairly large job and 4th Generation handled all without a hiccup.

Dave and his team gave me a very reasonable and detailed quote, and were able to begin work immediately. His team coordinated a large delivery of fresh mulch, cleaned up my poorly maintained flower beds, re-edged, and installed over 80 yards of mulch. Dave and team did an excellent job on our yard and came to our rescue at the last minute. We had started our project planning with a different landscaper at the end of August and by the end of October only the irrigation system was finished. When it became clear they had no intention of finishing our job I reached out to Dave. He came to our rescue and would not rest until the job was completed. He is professional, punctual, communicates really well, and did an excellent job! They worked rain or shine when possible and completed the job with limited time and a week of solid rain. You really can't ask for a better team. Dave always asked me for input at every step to be sure I was satisfied with the work before moving to the next phase. His team never even left for a lunch break. One of them would pick up lunch and they would only take about a 15min break if that. You can count on Dave and his team to do a great job! Thanks so much Dave and Team!

Dave's crew did an awesome job with our challenging backyard. We had a large amount of branches (many big ones, many more small ones), large piles of leaves, and other lawn debris to deal with, and when it was over they ended up with a completely full load of stuff to haul away. They were punctual, worked hard, and got the job done within the alloted timeframe, all while dealing with the joys of our steep driveway. I'd definitely hire them again!

We hired 4th generation landscaping to do some clean-up work. The previous owner of the house had been a master gardener and my wife and I do not have green thumbs. The owner came out and quoted a ridiculously high price, but I thought maybe he had special people or something and bit. Unfortunately, his people didn't have any special experience, even though they were hard workers. In the end, they didn't finish the work and we had to hire someone else. The owner seems proud of being a 4th generation company, but at his rates, there won't be a 5th generation.

Thanks for leaving your feedback but I am a little surprised by the review after you were satisfied with the work once we finished. The work that we completed for you was very intense, hard, manual landscaping labor (that not too many companies like to perform). It didn't require high level skill (as tools weren't even used) but we removed poison ivy, English ivy, and other weeds (by the root) by hand. I brought 4 men out and worked sun up to sun down, in almost 100-degree weather, in full sun, on hands and knees, all day. I spoke with you several times throughout the entire process and you assured me that the guys were doing an excellent job. In the end, you told me the job looked phenomenal and paid without a problem. To hear this now, without any indication that something was wrong with the job, is confusing. If I would have known something was wrong, I would have done my best to fix it and to earn your business again in the future. That is my track record and I have never had anything less than a B for that very reason. I'm sorry to hear now that you were displeased but I wish you would have reached out to me prior to hiring another company and prior to writing this review. Thank you for your business and I wish I could have help fix whatever issue you had with the company.

The team was AMAZING. They showed up early on a Friday, a few days earlier than initially agreed to because we mentioned to Dave and Stephanie that we were having people over. So customer focused. So our yard looked beautiful when people were over. All of the workers were thoughtful, nice, and very detailed with their jobs. When one guy was finished with his part, he started helping someone else. We would hire 4th generation back without any hesitation and they are our go-to people now.

Dave and team were very professional and did a great job. They were punctual and responsive. The mulch looks great and I highly recommend. They did little extra things like pick up debris from the yard from a recent storm. That's great service!
