We went through our warranty company and initially had a good experience as they were using a sub contractor. The sub contractor was very professional and prompt. He advised the owner was away at the time so he was handling the calls. He was totally excellent. However my unit still wasn't fixed even though many things were tried. The owner returned and we were contacted by management. A manager tried to tell my girlfriend, the hoemowner, that if it's 30 degrees and our home is 40 our heat works despite their own company attempting fixes. He then called me since she was not home and repeatedly asked if I was home. I told him I would be calling her to make sure it was ablegit call and he kept asking if I was home and ignored what I said. I confirmed and called back stating that he was being rude and asked if we could be polite going forward. I explained to him that due to safety I had to confirm he took offense. Eventually I got frustrated and he escalated and hung up.

The tech looked at unit, stated the draft motor was bad. cost between $450 and $650, would let us know exact $ on Monday. We never heard from him again. I had to call another company and they fixed the unit with a minor part ($10) and a service call.

Our air conditioner broke during a heat wave. When we called Morris Jenkins we were told they had a four-day wait. This was unthinkable, as the highs were 100+ and our house sits in full sun. I found 24 Hour Air online and called, expecting to hear the same wait, if not longer. To my absolute shock he said he could be at my home within two hours. He told me when to expect him (10pm) and he arrived in the time frame that he said he would. Tyrone was polite and professional. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and recommended the repairs needed. We had to receive approval for the repair from our home warranty company, so we could be reimbursed for the service, and Tyrone patiently waited while I arranged that by phone. He spoke to the home warranty representative and we had no problem getting authorization for the repair. He said he would return the next morning with new parts (fan and motor) to fix the a/c issues. The next morning he called me to let me know when he would arrive. Again, he arrived in the time frame, and quickly and professionally fixed the a/c. He emailed me a receipt, as requested, immediately. I could not have been happier with the service provided by this company. They saved us from days of suffering during a heat wave with a senior citizen in the house. I'm just sorry they don't do regular maintenance service, as I would have gladly given them my business. If my a/c breaks again, I will know who to call, and I will hope that Tyrone is on call! Thank you, 24 Hour Air, and thank you, Tyrone.
Description of Work: Replaced fan and motor.

After having a chance to truly see what happen, the overall experience was quite poor. I think this is just another case of a contractor taking advantage of someone in immediate need with not many other options. I returned home from a weekend away to a house temp of almost 90. The outside unit was not working. I found 24 Hour Air online, they advertise that they do not upcharge for weekend/holiday work. When called, they gave me an estimated time, then called back due to running late. No major problems at this point other than a little miffed that they could not be here in the time they stated. The technician looked and diagnosed the problem with the contactor in about 2 minutes and replaced it within 10. All was well until I had a chance to research a little. Turns out they charged me $230 for the part, when the retail price is about $28. I also noticed on their website that they offer for you to check out Angie's list, the description that Angie's list has is $49 service calls, I was charged $69.99. Had this been a case where I didn't have a house full of people and needed to get the temp back down to normal quickly, I would never had hired this company. I see that they have a reasonable service call charge, but it is clear they make up the difference in charging 10x for the parts.
Description of Work: Service call to determine reason for outside unit not starting. Replacement of Contactor.

Response from 24 Hour Air
Thanks for your response to our service. Im glad we were able to get you cooling. Unfortunately, we have not been on Angie's list since our company's profile was uploaded in 2009. I believe at that time our service call fee was $49.99. We believe our prices are very competitive for the Charlotte area, but will apologize for the late update. Management

The technician arrived and immediately took out an electronic temperature gauge. In less than 2 minutes he determined that the a/c was working fine based on the temperature coming out of the vents. I responded that seemed odd, because there was a drastic difference in the set temperature and the temperature in the house. This is when the technician became abrasive and defensive. He repeatedly said, you don't have to take my word and you don't have to believe me, but I am telling you the truth. The service call basically went downhill from here. Next, the technician checked our air filters and advised that they needed to be replaced. I recognized that the filters needed to be replaced; however, still wanted confirmation that the a/c unit itself was working properly. Keep in mind this is a $119 service call. When questioned about the performance of the unit itself, the technician became defensive again, stating that the unit did not need to be looked at because he knew it was fine. The technician concluded that since we were all the same color, we should request a white man to come and service our a/c unit next time. He was immediately asked to leave and that basically concluded the service. The entire appointment lasted no more than 10 minutes, and resulted in a complete waste of time and money.
Description of Work: Tested temperature coming from vents. Checked air filters and said they needed to be replaced. This was an appointment to have our a/c looked at, however, the technician NEVER looked at the a/c unit itself.

Response from 24 Hour Air
Our tech went out to this residence to do a system check to see why system would not cool home of the week where it was 100 degree's outside. Resident said low air flow was coming out vents also. System had been turned off 4 hours prior. First thing our techs are trained to do is check filters. Resident said both filters had not been changed in a year. Our tech told them that they need to be changed every 2 months or less as if the system gets no air, no air will come out vents. Resident demanded that tech was incorrect. Continually insulting the tech. With the air filters out the system, tech checked delta T and air volume out vents. All was within manufactures specs. Tech concluded that systems issue was extremely dirty filters which in turn caused pressures/temps to drop in evap, which lead to the coil freezing up. The affect from this is no air able to pass through coil, meaning no air flow in home. Residents pretty much told the tech he was 100% wrong. At that point, as he is trained, he should wrap up call as he did, as an expert opinion was not actually wanted. This is not a tit for tat forum, so our comments will be left at that. management
