Mike’s Tree Service

The original tree cut and moved away as requested. My elderly mother wrote two checks totaling $2600. After the incident we had another tree service give an estimate (for a baseline). Their cost would be between $375 and $525 for the original job. I called Mike Odom (the owner) to get substantial money back. He delays and ignores my calls. We're forced to submit a police report and follow up with legal action. It reeks of elder abuse (financial).

We signed a contract with Mr. Rodney Oldham, the owner of Mike’s Tree Service, to cut down and remove a very large oak tree from our property. Although the tree was cut down, all the wood and leaves were left on our property, in spite of repeated phone calls to remove the huge amount of wood, limbs, and leaves. At first Mr. Oldham made promises to remove the items, but never showed up. He finally stopped taking our phone calls. Ultimately, we paid the city of Chapel Hill to remove the refuse. However, the large swarth of our lawn which contained the tree debris needs to be repaired/replaced. We submitted complaints to the Better Business Bureau as well as the NC State Attorney. The BBB repeatedly attempted to get in touch with Mr. Oldham, but their inquiries were never answered. We have not yet heard back from the Attorney General’s office. It appears at this point our only recourse is small claim’s court.

He was friendly and his prices were great. He was professional and showed up when he said he would. It was an all around positive experience and we would definitely recommend him.

I've used Rodney (Mike's Tree Service) in the past and called him to remove additional trees. While taken down a tree, a limb feel on my brand new roof and punctured a 2" hole in it. I was not aware this happened, until he showed up one evening a few days later to patch it, just before a downpour. He said he would cover the cost to fix it; the roofer repaired it for me, I paid for it. I called Rodney to let him know the cost and he said he would get me the money (but he had to get it from the tree climber.) Surprise, he was a no show. I addition, I had to arrange and pay for the city to come and pick up the trees stacked at the road. Too bad, 'cause Rodney, you're a nice guy and you know the right thing to do, but knowing and doing....

Rodney Oldham came to my home late to render an estimate. Okay, he said he missed an exit. The estimate was given to me on July 3, 2012 and he stated that if I wanted the work completed on July 4 that he had to have cash. The cash amount was 500.00 for the work. He stated that if I paid by check that the work would be done on July 5. My husband and I signed the proposal to have the work completed on July 4 with one eyebrow raised. As a side note, he appeared to have been drinking something prior to his arrival because his eyes were extremely red however he was drinking a Sunkist while rendering the proposal. He never stopped drinking the Sunkist. Again, our eyebrows were raised. Needless to say, he never called or showed on July 4 nor did he call on July 5. Do not use this company. Please remove from Angie's List. The work proposal was to cut down one 1 pine tree and 2 small trees as well as trim back several trees. He stated that it would cost $150.00 to haul the wood away and that it was not worth his gas to do that when I could have the city to pick up the wood. Of course, it is cheaper for the city to pick up the wood (50.00) however there are specifications that must be met. He promised to meet those specifications and to stack the wood at the curb. He made a lot of promises however he was a no show and he never called to say why he did not keep his promises. I called his number and only received voice mail twice. After waiting on July 4th past the window he gave (9 am - 10 am) , I waited past 12 Noon, I called and left a voice message stating a cancellation of the proposal.

Rodney Oldham is the man that does the work for me. He can convince you that you need something done even if you don't. He is a great salesman. He has a lot of men working for him. You can bargain with him, because I always do. I negotiate with him on price. He is willing to work with his customers, he is on the ball.

They are very prompt, professional, and they always work efficiently. Overall, I've been extremely pleased with their service. I really appreciate how well they clean up after themselves.
