Clutter free is a professional organizing company assisting anyone who needs help de-cluttering and functionalizing their home or office. Organizing is not a one size fits all process. We strive to create a system that enables the client to maintain the easiest. Our process includes a free phone consultation, an in home consultation and work sessions. There are no contracts, just an hourly fee. So if a consultation is all you need then that is all you pay for but if you need assistance to accomplish the de-cluttering and organizing then you you can hire us for that too. There are no extra fees for dropping off donations or recycling. The only extra fee is for a trip charge if you live outside our 30 mile radius. We accept cash or check at time of service. Great! Cary is a true pro. She was flexible in scheduling our work times for when I was available. (I work a night shift so she came to my home in the evenings.) From the minute she walked into my kitchen for our first decluttering session, she jumped right into beginning the task at hand. She tackled our huge project and took it one step at a time. When I felt overwhelmed, she calmly pushed ahead and directed me to work on the subtask she wanted me to complete. Cary offered continual guidance and encouragement to keep me on task. Cary was amazing. I had not cleaned out closets in 20 years. I gave 15 large bags to charity, which Cary delivered. I have an empty 12 foot closet ready for new things! I found clothes I had misplaced, so I now have a new wardrobe of my own own clothes. Cary handled the emotional side of throwing things out. Her approach was to take everything out and only put back what you wanted/needed. Excellent seervice. I asked for more time but she is booked, so get on her list as soon as possible.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER!! She challenged me appropriately on things using a creative view so that I could make my own decisions. She gave me useful techniques to continue the process on my own. I thought she was amazing and her personality is perfect for what she does. She's quick, thorough and truly does an incredible job. I have recommended her to all my friends. The biggest and best thing she did was gave me insight on how I should be utilizing my time when going through my schedule. I went from overwhelmed and unmotivated to empowered and inspired after my very first visit with Cary. I was really upset with myself for not managing to de-clutter my belongings before moving into my new home and the unpacked boxes just sat there in my spare room which I intended to turn into a guest/home office space many months ago. Well, after being in my new location for over eight months, I was very anxious to make some progress with clearing out the many boxes of stuff before the end of the year and it was just not happening on my own, so I decided I really needed some professional help. I am so very glad I found Cary an Angie's list! Cary is truly someone who will partner with you to make some real and lasting progress in de-cluttering your life. Over the eight hour period of time we spent together (spread over two days), we not only managed to get rid of the intimidating amount of clutter in my guest room, but I was also able to fully tame my master bedroom closet. What a joy it is to have a place for everything and everything in its place! And, I say we, because Cary was an integral part of the process by feeding me boxes (some of them quite heavy), taking things down to trash and recycle, and also taking all of the donated items away (no stress for me in having to haul things away). She came in to our home like a force. Very professional and disciplined. We bougth 12 hrs at once for a discount and to committ to the decluttering process. She helped us get rid of almost half our stuff we didn't need. She brings boxes and bags and takes the stuff right to donation and brings back receipts. It went fabulously! Cary listens to what you want, asks good questions to truly UNDERSTAND both the spoken and unspoken needs or desires and then reminds you what you said you wanted when you start to waver a little bit over something. (Well maybe it was just me who needed to be reminded when I said I wanted to donate something and then hemmed and hawed over it....but she did so in a gentle way that I found very effective in keeping me focussed on the desired outcome). She's attentive, prompt and has a great sense of humor. Cary is non-judgmental and understands that different people have different priorities and puts her emphasis on helping you make your space fit YOUR life. I have zero hesitation in recommending Cary, and I'll hire her again in a heartbeat when I find a condo to buy and move again to a permanent place.

She came to my house for 2 hours and helped me to declutter multiple times. One day we worked on my walk-in closet, which I couldn't even walk into before her help. It is so wonderful now. It went very well. She spent time discussing my objectives and helping create a plan of attack. We then spent time doing some of the presort needed before being able to get things back where they should belong. Since we were only going to be spending a couple of hours, after getting things going she spent time reviewing what I would need to do after the presort. She gave me all the necessary ideas needed to get things moving. If I need more help she said she would be pleased to come back. She has since emailed to check how the project was coming along. I loved her help and follow up and would definitely recommend her service to others.

I had moved from a larger house I had lived in for almost 30 years a few years ago and, at that time, had to downsize significantly. Nevertheless, I still ended up with boxes of "stuff" I didn't know exactly what to do with. I didn't want to throw it out, so it all ended up in the office. After reading the reviews, and especially Cary's thoughtful response to one particular review, I decided to hire her to help me get that office finally cleaned out so I could actually use it. She arrived right on time and we went immediately to work. She is very systematic and I found it extremely helpful to talk through why or why not to keep something. I had tried to do this myself, but just kept going around in circles, mentally speaking. Having someone else to bounce the logic off was key for me. One of the things she said that will continue to help me in this regard were, "If you lost this, would you buy it again?" I realized that the answer many times was "no", but I nevertheless hung onto the object because it had been a gift or because I felt that to get rid of it would be "wasteful." However, it helped me to realize that I was going to be donating all these items to someone else who could actually use them made me realize that they wouldn't be wasted. Cary also made things so easy by taking care of bringing the items to donate and doing a lot of the physical work. She charges $60 an hour and, although the final cost seemed on the high side to me, since I'm just a public school teacher, it was TOTALLY worth it!! I love my office now! In a few months, I plan on hiring her again to help me tackle the GARAGE!!! Totally, totally worth it! Thank you, Cary!

I heard about Clutter Free from a Big Deal coupon. We recently renovated our house and moved back in to a space with more storage and better organization. I requested help to get my systems up and going to reduce the build-up of mail and junk on the kitchen counter instead of the new entryway storage. I wanted advice on how to organize the use of the new and improved space in the entryway, kitchen cupboards and utility closet. This was not a clutter busting situation. I gave her a tour of all the storage areas available in our house. Cupboards were sitting empty or underutilized - in the entryway, in the kitchen, upstairs hall, project room, laundry room, bathrooms, and in the attic (i.e. lots of space). Pros: Cary, the proprietor, was friendly, cheerful, energetic, and arrived on time. She brought with her some good organizing tools to help power through clutter and taught me how to sort into the four categories: keep, re-assign location, give away, throw away. The entryway hutch became much more useful. She did tell me what sorts of things that I should store there to make it the most functional. Cons: I was most interested, and stated from the beginning that I wanted help with the big picture where to put stuff, how to organize my stuff. She got fixated on culling stuff, and, having moved three times in the past year, that was not a priority or need of mine. For example, there were 4 similar hats in a drawer and she pressed me to reduce down to one hat. Or, she set her eyes on a specialized wooden tower that we use so the toddler can reach the counter to be able to help in the kitchen. She wanted to talk through how I used it, if I really used it, and if I needed there, etc but this was not something that I felt I needed to explain to her. She wanted me to question the boxes of miscellaneous spare parts that I have. My son is a budding inventor and we really do use our junk to make things. Thus this focus on reducing my stuff was not of interest to me and we should have been getting to the issues of importance to me. I was a bit put off with comments that she made about the small size of my laundry area given the extensive renovation, and my choice to have all of my good china accessible. It is true that the display may not be the most esthetically pleasing because there is too much crammed in the cupboard but that is my choice because I want it useable. Ironically, she ran out of her beautiful labeling tape so a couple of the key shelves (incoming mail, bills to be paid and other actionable mail) are not labeled and I keep getting things mixed up, to the chagrin of my husband. Cary got so immersed in actually going through the entryway hutch that she did not mind the clock. In the end I felt that she should be compensated for the extra 30 minutes she worked, though it was not at my request, so I paid her at her regular rate for those 30 extra minutes. My husband later said that was not the right thing to do. At the rate we were progressing, it would be very expensive to not only plan but to execute all the improvements in space in our house. Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations for bigger picture help. In any case, I think that Cary would be a helpful clutter buster if you sufficient funds, patience for several visits, and don't mind being questioned about your stuff.

This client brings up some great points that I hope all potential clients will consider when hiring a professional organizer. Professional organizers are different from closet organizing companies because we don’t just come and measure your closet for a generic build in. We help our clients assess what they have and how they use it to make sure that we are giving the client the most functional space. That often means asking questions about how often you use items and if the items “earn” the space it is taking up. An organizers job is to push you on items that are not used often to see if you will push back with legitimate reasons why the item should stay. An organizer can logically organize any space but if they leave the space filled with “potentials” and rarely used items, you will soon stop using the space for what you do use often. The items you use most often turn into piles of clutter on chairs and counters so it doesn’t get lost among the “potentials” and rarely used items in the closet. Clutter Free strives to give you a functional space by helping you to assess your space and how it needs to be used. Then we help you find your treasures and most often used possessions to organize in the space. What is left either needs to be stored away, assigned another space, donated, sold or trashed. The organizer will help guide you in making those decisions but they are ultimately made by the home owner and not the organizer. The Big Deal coupon that the member purchased was for a one hour whole home consultation and a one hour organizing session for a small space. After walking through the whole home and giving organizing and storage suggestions, we chose the entry way as the space to organize which did become more functional for her. My goal for each session is to finish the space we are organizing so the client can be excited about the work we have done. If it takes a little longer to complete the project, I happily stay if possible to finish it up. I rarely get paid for this extra time and only if the client insists. I am happily refunding the member for the extra time and sending her the labels she needs by mail. The process of de-cluttering and organizing can be stressful but the end result will leave you with more lasting peace than a message or counseling session at the comparative price of an hour of de-cluttering and organizing. Organizing almost always saves you time and money as well because you don’t continue to repurchase items you can’t find in your home or spend hours looking for it. I can work with your budget and schedule to help you reach your goals of a Clutter Free and Functional home.
