Alan Johnson Landscapes

Alan came out to the house on two occasions.  He presented several options and we discussed the pros and cons and costs of each.  He then summarized his thoughts in a written document.

Alan's 32-year career as a curator/horticulturist at the NC Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill has made him a unique treasure in this landscape business. He's a delightful combination of geek scientist, creative genius and mud-on-the-shoes landscaper. He did a few rough sketches for us, showing hellebores here and ferns there and yadda-yadda (a la the Star Spangled Banner on an envelope) and we were committed. In large measure because we've also admired work he's done in other area landscapes for friends. We knew it would stretch our budget a bit, but we jumped at the chance to upgrade our environment with really cool plantings that would provide year-round color and interest. He brought in native plants that make us proud to be in the North Carolina Piedmont. We're watering as needed, but this is an amazing array of color, texture and fragrance that obviously thrives in the acidic shady clay we have here. And despite herds of deer nibbling our trees and grass every day, our landscaped plantings seem to present no temptation to the whitetails. Amazing.
