I have an older gas fireplace. Have only had wood burning before. The techs from Ron’s have been great. I have had them out several times… they are always prompt, friendly, professional, & knowledgeable. They go the extra mile and explain everything. I highly recommend Ron’s.

Ron's installed a new see-through fireplace for us in summer of 2017. We were impressed with the friendly professionalism and the quality of work. Mary, in the shop, was very helpful with design ideas, and did a beautiful job hand-staining the mantel. The tile work is exactly the clean, contemporary look we were going for, and it's great to have the fireplace open to the kitchen as well. Ron came today to do the seasonal check up, and was very thorough in cleaning and examining the unit. He even took time to correct a small glitch in the remote that we had not even noticed. I recommend them as reasonably priced and committed to quality.

We had a propane fireplace in the house we moved into. We noticed over time the things were developing soot in the house that you don’t clean regularly. So, we called Ron’s place up. But first we researched the manufacturer, as a new home owner we looked through all the manuals and looked up manufacturer, they’re out of business. No one had bought them out. So, there’s nothing I can do myself. So, we call Ron. He says these are all proprietary parts, company’s out of business, you’re going to need a new fireplace. So, we price out a new fireplace, which is several thousand dollars, it’s a double sided, open on both sides (one side in the living room, one in my library). So, It’s a big fireplace, huge heat source in the winter time. Since my home is all electric. It can get cold here, in the teens. Ice storms are more of a problem here. So, I call Ron, he’s got a good reputation. He’s the only game in time. I had him proceed with replacing the fireplace. It’s freestanding in the middle of the room. The builder when he built it, built that freestanding area bigger then it needed to be. The library is south facing, so in the winter time it gets a lot of sunshine, but that doesn’t get through to the family room. Ron connected me with a contractor who reduced the closure in the fireplace by 3 feet, and Ron installed the fireplace and chimney. It’s just the nicest improvement we’ve ever made to the home. It’s beautiful to look at. I had the contractor false stone the whole thing. So, it looks like I have a great big stone monument in my home. It’s beautiful.

Two guys were here. One guy goes up on the roof with a long telescopic little furry thing, looks like a dust broom. He uses a portable drill to run it down the vent from the top, while the dryer is running. You get a good idea how much is coming out. The inside man, disconnects the dryer, pulls it out from the wall, to get to the vent on the dryer. They’re here about an hour. It’s something we do every couple of years. The performance of the dryer starts to decline as things build up. We’ve used them now three times.

They test the system, they light it. They clean all the fake wood inside. They reset the stones in the baseplate. They re-add the stuff that looks like burning embers in the bottom. They replace the batteries. They clean the blower. It has a blower that blows the hot air out. So, they test all that, clean everything. They take the glass panes out and clean it. They get it brand new looking.

I've had Ron's Fireside fix two chimneys and install a propane fireplace insert, and the work has been reasonably priced and professionally installed, with good communication and no surprised. They have a shop in Castle Hayne where the products they install are on display, and I found everyone there to be helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend Ron's Fireside for anyone needing anything from a chimney sweep to an insert.

Description of Work: Ron's fireplace charged me $150.00 each to turn on a pilot for 2 gas fireplaces. Which I have never had anyone charge that much money for a job that took no more than 3 minutes. The owner was extremely arrogant. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

We contracted with Ron's Chimney to perform a basic fix in October of 2013. After several months of hounding them they finally finished the job in July of 2014. Not only were they unprofessional in their customer service but the workmanship was substandard. Now a year and a half later we found out that the chimney cap they installed was inferior quality and is not preventing rain from entering the chimney. Furthermore, instead of installing a standard chimney cap they customized something that they jammed into the chimney opening, so needless to say, now we are stuck with paying somebody else to remove it and install a correct cap. Was the most expensive lesson I have learned in a long time. What a rip off! We will never use or recommend them to anybody.

We just love our new fireplace. Ron Jr came to our house to give us an estimate and advice on an appropriate fireplace for our space. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions on the efficiency and heat of the different fireplaces. The work was started on time and completed on schedule. From the first meeting with Ben in the showroom to the final inspection everyone involved in this project was friendly, courteous and professional. We would absolutely recommend this company to anyone looking to install a new fireplace.

The chimney had been filled with the old bricks and building materials and lowered below the roof line when the house was renovated before we bought it. Ron, Jr. and his helper Al cleaned out a pickup truck bed of debris and then built an air exchange system on the roof which is connected to the existing chimney. Even though we had told Piedmont Gas workmen where to put the new gas line for the fireplace, they missed the designated spot by several inches. Ron and Al had to relocate the line to meet the connections to the coal basket. Then, as predicted, sawing into the bricks caused problems that the fireplace frame did not cover up. We did end up having the front of the fireplace tiled in slate. Ron and Al covered our furniture with plastic and attempted to clean up as much of the brick dust as possible when they were finished. Ron, Jr. is knowledgeable and friendly. He knows his end of the family business well.
Description of Work: Ron, Jr. installed a stunning, vented, coal basket gas fireplace in to a very tiny, pre-existing opening. Ron Jr. warned us that ventless gas fireplaces caused problems for people with allergies and that vented was much healthier alternative. Of course, vented costs more. To back up this claim, he told us that ventless fireplaces were now illegal in Massachusetts. He also warned us they might have to saw into the brick front to fit a frame for the unit into the opening. Of course, a frame costs more. This might cause some of the bricks to crack or to break off. If that happened, he said we could consider having the bricks refaced with tile or slate. Of course, tiling the existing fireplace costs more. At the time, I wondered if Ron Jr., was telling us all this to make sure we spent much more money than we had originally planned. Then he showed us a pamphlet with the unit he recommended for our house. And of course, it cost more than the simple unit we saw in the shop. The result? Beautiful, original looking and totally functional!

I joined AngiesList after this happening because I don't want to go blind into another situation like this. This company had another questionable report on AngiesList and if I would have been a member before calling Ron's I would have had more questions prior to them having come out and would have canceled the cleaning of the chimney with them.
Description of Work: Overcharged for job requested to be done. Was told it would be $150 or 'it could be more' as the company personnel looked at my chimney & home to clean the chimney. That sounded about right. Then, they came to our home on appointed date and said it would be $350 which for cleaning the chimney sounded high but I trusted that this was the going rate for this area since we've not lived in this area for very long. I paid right at $100 each year in the town I lived in prior to moving to Wilmington for a very professional chimney sweep to clean our wood burning fireplace & chimney every year. Ron's Fireside Shop is in the business of selling and not cleaning as I found out. An hour to clean the chimney and another hour of selling and I get charged $350. They said the fireplace was VERY dirty. I saw some ash fall down when they opened the damper but not that much. There's a cap on the chimney but they said it had bird feces in the chimney. They said that the chimney had good 'bones' but major selling seemed to be the basis of their chimney sweep. Selling in the range of $5000+. I called after they left and found out for chimney sweeping $350 is not the going rate and questioned the amount. I tried to clear this up before writing this because I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt. I gave this company a N/A on Quality because I cannot tell if quality work was done or not - my problem is the cost of an hour of cleaning a chimney being $350.

They did the work well. The only complaint I have is that young man who came out twice was never on time. He was Ron's son and he was not very professional. He came in over an hour and half early. He called me and told me that he was in the area and he had a cancellation and asked me if it would be okay to come over. I was dying my hair and I told him that. He was very smart and so he told me that he doesn't know if he would be able to get over here. If they were customer oriented, he would have said that it was all right or that he was sorry for the inconvenience. The unit they put in works right and we love it. The work they did was good. However, I felt that the son was rude and I didn't want him coming back here. He is not always rude, but if it is inconvenient, he will be rude. We had a very good experience with the dad, who sold us the unit. He gave us good information. However, the boy who did the service was another story. We also had a little short where the blower was but the boy didn't want to look at it. It blows at one time and doesn't blow other times. It didn't make any sense. The boy told me that, that is how it worked. My husband looked and he found some wires that was not connected and that's why it was not blowing properly. They could have found that if they had taken the time to do it. They have a good product. The owner is doing his job. I was going to call him directly and tell him about the experience but I never got around to it. I did call once, but his son answered the phone so I didn't say anything to him. It would be a shame for that company to lose business because Ron really needs to let his son know what he is doing. It's his son and he should be able to communicate to him. The original experience with the installation was good. The product itself is excellent. It was a little expensive. We don't have a choice but to use them again.

When I called them, they said they would come out and clean it, but when they came out they said they wouldn’t. They wouldn’t and said that it had to have a cap on it and they tried to sell me $3000 worth of stuff. I am sure that they are very good; I just think that they are a little high-end and refused to do what I asked them to. The cap they were wanted to sell to me was $700 and I found one online for $150 and had it installed by someone else for $100. I got someone else to clean the chimney and install the cap after having this company come out for $85.
