We were under a tight time schedule because we had friends scheduled to visit with us. The company assigned two people immediately and they worked efficiently and professionally to get the job done on time and with high quality.

Description of Work: I want to commend Unlimited Resource in their diligence in trying to reach me when I requested information. I made an error in my contact information, but the office manager, Brandee Oliveira, found a way to contact me. It was through my error not theirs, that they did not have the opportunity to bid. At the next opportunity, this will be one of the first companies I request information.

I called Rob in September 2012 to come out and give me a quote for a custom wooden carport. I had an idea of what I wanted but I needed a professional to tell me what was possible and how much it would cost. The estimate he gave me was $3500 for a 15'x8' carport which actually wouldn't fit my car completely and to pour one concrete slab of 6'x8' to extend my driveway slightly. I was shocked at how high the price was even though another contractor was shocked at how low it was. So I decided to give up on the carport for awhile. Then in February 2013 I saw that Rob's company Unlimited Resource was running an Angies List Big Deal $1499 for 30 hours of work. I have very little experience/knowledge with construction so I figured 30 hours should be enough to build a wooden carport. I called Rob and he came out again. We talked about the same project as before but this time he was far more vague about the cost. I reminded him about the previous $3,500 estimate and he seemed noncommittal about it saying that it might cost more. He did tell me that the project may run a little over 30 hours but he might not even charge for me a couple extra hours. He drew up an agreement and I read it overnight. As I read the agreement, I noticed that the labor cost was $75 per hour after the initial 30 hours which is extremely high in my mind but I was optimistic that it wouldn't run over too long. I signed the papers and wrote a check. Rob had Nate come out to start digging so we could extend the driveway. He spent ~6 hours digging. Meanwhile I had another guy come out and cut a tree that was in the way at a cost of $475. The next day Rob brought out Jason who seemed to know exactly what he was doing. They started talking to me about building an extension to my house that would cover part of my driveway which would essentially cover my car and allow me to exit/enter at any time while being dry. Although this was a decent idea, it's not what I wanted. Also Nate had already spent 6 hours digging a hole and I had just paid $475 to have a tree removed based on Rob's plan. It was too late to turn back now. Jason went back to the drawing board and came up with a modified version of the original plan. He measured the length of my car and decided that actually the carport needed to be 18' in length to accommodate my car which is a little over 15' long and to offer more protection. I agreed. I knew that this would require more work and more materials. Then I began to wonder why Jason wasn't the one who came out initially because he had clear, concise ideas which he came up with 10 minutes after showing up. It was like Rob gave me a quote and then brought Jason out to give him a quote. Although Jason didn't mention cost, I felt more confident about what we were doing after speaking with him. Anyways, the new plan required the driveway to be extended by another 6' which meant more digging. I'm currently unemployed so I decided to save some money (I saw where this was heading) and help dig. I have to say I have a new respect for digging holes. That was really hard work and it took us another couple days to move all that dirt and get the site ready for pouring. By now I knew that the cost was going to be ludicrous because we had 4-5 people out there digging and moving dirt for two days. There goes the Angies List 30 hours of labor Big Deal. $1,500 to dig a hole. While we were digging one of the guys mentioned that it was something like $300 to rent a Bobcat for a day. So for a third of the price I could have had that hole dug out in a couple hours. The concrete guy came and poured the concrete. That was $1,000. I didn't see any receipt for that. Now we are up to $2,500. Then it came time to order lumber and other materials necessary for actually constructing the carport. That turned out to be ~$2,200 and Rob was completely transparent about that as I paid the supplier directly. Now we are up to ~$4,700 and we haven't even started building yet. I'm pretty worried at this point because now I was about to be charged $75 per hour for carpentry and the two guys who finished the concrete curing. This is almost triple what I got paid as an entry-level software engineer. Make of that what you will. I don't have the exact number but bottom line it ended up taking about 3 full days (3 guys on one day and 2 guys on 2 days) to finish it at a cost of $4,500. That was after Rob discounted the work because the real amount was ~$5,000 not including some extra shingles because they ran out. Now we are up to the final amount of $9,200. Don't get me wrong. The carport looks incredible and better than what I had imagined. It is solid, all the angles are neat, and the paint looks sweet. It is truly master work. I try to live without regrets but right now I regret this. I could have gotten 900+ car washes for the cost of this carport. I could have went to Ultra in Miami as a VIP three times for the cost of this carport. That's about 7-8 months of living expenses for me. Like I told Rob, I think it's about how much value you put in money and what your priorities are. If I had known beforehand that it was going to cost $9,200 + $475 for the tree, I would not have done it. Simple. Rob tried to explain to me that because we extended the carport by several feet that justified doubling the cost. The more likely reality is that his quote was way too low. I don't think he even imagined it would go this high. Also, I may have been able to save $1,000+ by using a bobcat to dig the hole. This is one of my main regrets about the whole project. Rob turned out to be an honest guy as the amount of hours he tallied closely matched what I tallied. However, the vague estimate he gave me was clearly wrong. I truly believe he didn't do it on purpose and honestly underestimated the amount of work. I suggested that he let Jason do estimates in the future because he seemed to know more about carpentry. Also, Jason ordered almost exactly the right amount of materials to build the carport. He is a pro. All of the other guys (and girl) including Nate, Mike, Emma, Leonard were good people. They knew what they were doing, worked hard, and were very professional. I would recommend Unlimited Resource but I would also say that you need to be reasonably certain what the plan is and how much it will cost before signing anything. In the end, it was a learning experience. I learned that next time I want a solid plan before building anything. I learned more about construction and concrete. I learned that digging holes is not easy work. I also got an awesome carport. Too bad it all cost so much.

Just to be clear the first estimate I gave I believe was for a smaller carport like 12x8 and I did not have any notes or a written estimate from the customer on the price of $3,500 so I imagine we could had been visualizing different end projects. As far as the carport we completed, it had changed and grew during the project and because it was contracted by time and materials the end price was undeterminable. The second slab was added in the middle of the project so the renting of the backhoe would have been better at the start of the project if we knew it would have been that much digging but given the timing, progress and potential scheduling problems I voted against it and in the end only charged 90 of the 120(This more then covered the digging of the holes and then some) man hours that was put into the project as well as supplied some materials we had in stock. We did our best to reduce the unexpected cost of his project but I feel was not due to poor planning, estimating or execution. The customer was a great person to work for and I totally agree with his suggestion of having the project detailed out to determine the final cost, it just doesn't always work out that way.

Rob and his three painters arrived on time, worked hard, were pleasant to me and to each other and did an outstanding job. They left my new home cleaner than they found it. I had started painting and decided the job was too big for me, but they touched up some of the places that I had painted where I had not done a very good job. Kudos to them all!
Description of Work: Rob's painters painted my living room, dining room, kitchen, foyer and hall. They were very professional and did an excellent job! The three painters worked together as a team and were perfectionists. I could not have asked for nicer, more pleasant people to have in my home. I will recommend them to others. The price was fair and they performed the work quickly and got it done before I moved in even thought I only gave Rob a couple of days notice.

After the purchase of the "Big Deal" of 30 hours of contracted labor I met with the members and went over their list of things they would need done; Repair sencond story deck railing and repair banding, powerwash deck, build overhang on rear entry and repaint living room. I gave her an estimate on materials for these projects and the cost above and beyond the prepaid contracted labor contract they pre-purchased and request they let me know which of these items they would like done or if they would like to do all of them. I didnt not hear back from them till I recieved notice from Angie's List that they were requesting a refund, I spoke with the member on the phone after recieving this notice and she told me that I did not call her back regarding the work, I explained that she would need to decide on what she would like done; she didn't care and requested refund still, which we provided.

Rob at Unlimited Resource was punctual and precise. He did an excellent job of providing both quality materials and workers. He had a good vision of what would work best for us in the space. The end result exceeded expectations. The job was done over several days and we never felt "abandoned" or out of the loop. Things went according to plan. This is rare in our experience with handymen and contractors, We would definitely trust Rob with another project.
Description of Work: Robert Arriago of Unlimited Resource did an outstanding job of transforming a box laden garage into a two car plus organized storage facility. Our garage had become the "catch all" for inherited items and former business inventory. Only one of our two cars could be parked inside. We were beginning to attract mice and knew we had to clean up the mess. But, we wanted the garage to be attractive as well as functional. Robert and Nick and another professional garage system crew devised an accessible shelf and hook combination that provided just what we needed. Our concrete garage floor had cracked and was repaired and coated with a protective finish. Reults exceeded expectation. When the work was finished, Nick cleaned up everything so we had a sparkling new addition to our home. Nick also helped us reconfigure our attic storage for accessibility and safety. We added extra lights for visibility and more flooring. The garage job involved moving a freezer and many other items out of the garage while the work was done. But, Rob made sure the freezer remained plugged in, etc. Not one item was damaged in the transfer. Nick even took our wheelbarrow to the service station to get air in its tire. Nick also did odd jobs throughout our home from nail pops to blind replacement to rehanging a door to adding hooks for indoor storage. All the work was excellent. Every worker was polite and professional. We will definitely call Unlimited Resource again.

I called Unlimited Resource and left a message, Robert called me back very quickly and he came to my house that day or the next. After showing him all the work, we agreed on a price I thought was very fair to complete all the work. I only had a three-day window and Robert committed to completing the work in the short time frame. It took a few days to get the wording in the proposal correct, but everything was changed to my satisfaction and the work started on time. The two painters, Nate and Jason, who showed up were kind and professional. They did an amazing job patching and smoothing the walls that the previous homeowner had left in very bad shape. They also fixed some moulding that had been installed incorrectly--it looks almost perfect now. They put drop cloths or plastic on everything and cleaned up at the end of each day. I ended up adding some work to the project (repairing and painting the ceiling in our 20x13' den), so it took one day longer than I'd planned, but the painters did a GREAT job and I am VERY pleased. I've found very few mistakes and smudges, but I'm sure if I find anything larger, someone will come out and fix it right away. My closet doors were re-installed incorrectly so I called Robert and he came out that evening and fixed them right away. I will be hiring Unlimited Resource in the future and I highly recommend them.

The folks from Unlimited Resource were good about showing up at the agreed upon time. The team doing the work was polite, friendly and professional. At the end of every day, they did a great job cleaning up behind themselves. They did a fairly good job containing all the drywall dust that results from doing the skimcoat - better than I would have thought possible. They finished the job on time and it looks good. I'm happy with the results and would use them again.

Robert was very responsive from the start. He continued to be very accessible and I was comfortable with him and his entire team.
Description of Work: I own an older home and had the paneling on my kitchen and dining room walls replaced. I also had the ceiling for both rooms removed and replaced. Unlimited Resource drywalled the walls and ceiling and they installed new light fixtures. They also removed the soffit above my cabinets and added crown molding to both rooms. The service was great; they even spent time helping me find a specific dining room light fixture, which was above and beyond their scope of work. They added recessed lights in my kitchen and suggested I add a couple more above my island and I am so glad they did - they have made a big difference! Unlimited Resource also painted my new kitchen and dining room walls and ceiling. I just had to tell them my choice of Sherwin Williams paint colors and they took care of picking up the paint too. The quality of work was great but equally important for me was the fact that I felt comfortable leaving Unlimited Resource alone in my home when I left for work. I definitely recommend them and will use them in again in the future as I continue to update my home.

We had to do repairs, recarpeting and interior painting of our house prior to putting it on the market. This was a difficult project for us because we were living 3,000 miles away, and the house had suffered due to the fact that we had renters living in the house for two years. I made a one-week trip to Cary to set up the repair work and handle umpteen other details associated with putting one's house on the market. Because of the fact that we lived elsewhere and due to the short time frame it was important to us that we find a handyman who could provide quality work on a variety of different projects and who had the skills to manage a project without excessive supervision. I called several handymen while in Cary, and Robert Arriaga, our project manager from Unlimited Resource, was one of the first who returned my call. After I explained my situation and the time crunch, he agreed to meet with me after hours the very next day. We toured our house, identifying problems that needed repairing; Robert took extensive notes and made numerous constructive suggestions on how to effectively fix problems. We look at paint swatches and selected colors. After our tour, he promised me a quote within 48 hr. The quote was delivered in a timely manner. Back in California, I spent considerable time working with Robert remotely to finalize the quote and the scope of work. Because I lived 3,000 miles away, it was important that we get the contract defined precisely, since there would be no opportunity for me to change things 'on the fly' as the job progressed. We had the quote finalized in a few days, and his men started work on the house on the day that he'd promised. After the work was completed, our realtor visited the house and was impressed with the quality and appearance of the work. The jobs were done as defined, with no shortcuts. His team had done a good job cleaning after the job, despite the fact that there was no one there to fuss about it when the job was completed. I visited the house later, and was equally impressed. While I was impressed with the quality of the work, what most impressed me about Robert was his 'project management'. He understood my dilemma, and frequently communicated with me, giving me updates on progress, and asking relevant questions to ensure that his team was doing what we wanted. The carpeting job was especially telling in this regard, as Unlimited Resource does not do this job; he subcontracted this work out. I gave him general information about carpet brands and preferred colors that I picked out at the local Lowe's, and he and his subcontractor rapidly provided me a quote, ordered all the materials, and completed the job in a timely manner. He met with our realtor to double check that the colors that I selected 'blindly' were in fact a good choice. Overall, I was very pleased with Robert Arriaga and Unlimited Resource. Maybe the work could have been done more cheaply, but the attention to detail, responsiveness, and 'turnkey service' provided when we were in a bind more than compensated for the few dollars we might have saved. Thanks, Robert, for making a difficult situation easier.

Overall this was an amazing experience and I recommend to all to please take time to do your research before hiring any Service provider to perform the least to the greatest tasks. Unlimited Resource team was punctual, professional, and worked as a team. Each knew what their assigned tasks were and they performed as assigned. Great team work skill as they had to prime walls as well do a lot of repairs in some areas of bath and living room. This was done with great detail and work came out beautifully as their quality of work is beyond reproach! I am overjoyed with the outcome and would certainly recommend them to anyone that needs this type of remodeling as well as I would have them to come back to do in my home and work for me again! Love their work and professional ethics as well as quality!
Description of Work: Unlimited Resource is an excellent and professional Service provider. They painted my master bed room, bathroom, and living room as well as hung a new bathroom light fixture. The job was done timely and detailed to perfection. I did not like the 1st color picked as it was too light and once discussed with Contractor, the color was changed with no problem or hassles.

We were unable to proceed with the intended project, but overall Mr. Arriaga was very thorough and helpful.
Description of Work: Mr. Arriaga and Laura (office) were very prompt & helpful in answering my email request for an estimate on installing an exterior door in place of a set of windows. An appointment was set & Mr. Arriaga was, again, prompt & knowledgeable with the site inspection. Mr. Arriaga provided a quick written estimate for me, which was right on with his verbal estimate, but there were challenges on our end to proceed with the proposal. I kept having to inquire about additional issues, etc. (because of family involvement) after the proposal was presented to me and Mr. Arriaga had provided a start & end date for the project, weather permitting of course. Due solely to family discussions on our end, we ended up stopping everything before the signing of the proposal and requested deposit.. I emailed my sincere apologies to Mr. Arriaga and explained the situation. I haven't heard back from Mr. Arriaga, but hopefully we can proceed sometime in the future with the additional input of the family and come to a happy resolution for our project.

It went great. The only thing I had to buy was the materials and I expected that.
Description of Work: I had a big deal for them to fix a tin roof, they replaced some doors, they'd repaired some siding, and a number of things.

we never heard from them after they came to do a quote for the work.
Description of Work: we met with the owner who came to give us a quote on fixing the posts on our deck pergola and replacing the deck stairs. He confirmed our email address when he left and we never heard from him again.

Response from Unlimited Resources LLC
We have in our records that we contacted Member with a proposal on May 20. We heard nothing in response until she posted her unflattering review on Angie's List. We have since called and e-mailed (the last e-mail on June 26) in an attempt to rectify the situation and never received a response.
