I have lots to say about Portofino, I would strongly advise you to read the full review if you are thinking of going with them. If you notice the good reviews on good it’s because he pays to have the bad ones removed (verified to me by several employees). General summary: 1) they’re not actually cheaper, 2) no amount of money is worth dealing with Bob, 3) they did work without proper permits (and lied about it), 4) of the three people I know who used him, none would recommend him, 5) he will tell you your design/likes are stupid, 6) when they ask for a check, verify the numbers, they will have you overpay 1 – It’s not actually cheaper. He doesn’t include a lot of costs in that initial number he gives you to get you to agree to go to his meeting that costs you $1000 if you don’t sign the contract after. For example - Permits and dumpster together are $1000, not included in the initial number - Painting isn’t included (he conveniently waits until you’re about to sign to tell you that). Add on about $2K for that. Think you can do it yourself? Well it’s not just painting its all the final trim work, filling the holes, doing the finishing mud on the walls etc. Just plan for the $2K. - Several other items we included in our scope we sent him that he then charged us extra for at the contract meeting. 2- NOTHING IS WORTH DEALING WITH BOB. I repeat, no amount of money in the world is worth dealing with Bob. We had an issue with our countertop and he berated me over text. I was so taken aback by the sudden anger I was legitimately scared. In the end he said we’d have to pay the $1,000 arbitration fee for him to fix it without charging us for his mistake. We ended up fixing it ourselves. In a $45K bathroom you would think you would get an actual countertop that fits correctly and not have to fix it yourself. 3 – They did work knowingly without the proper permits. We had them put in windows downstairs and in the attic. I asked towards the end of construction to verify the windows were permitted and their workers told me they weren’t. I knew if I raised the problem at that moment then he wouldn’t finish the bathroom (since he already stopped all work once waiting for the countertop resolution) so I waited and asked to verify. They lied and told me they were permitted. I asked again and they lied again and said it was permitted. I finally said I had already talked with the town and inspector and it wasn’t. Eventually they filed the proper paperwork and got it through but had I not said anything it would have been unpermitted. 4 – I’m the third person I know who used them and none would recommend them. All of them were way behind schedule (closer to 3 months not 3 weeks) and two of the three of us he threatened that we would have to take him to arbitration to get him to fix his mistake. THAT’S 2 OUT OF 3 PEOPLE THAT’S HES THREATENED ARBITRATION. This is not an uncommon thing for him. This is not a standalone issue. I wish I had talked to the other people before deciding to go with him. 5 – Word of advice if you do decide to go with them. Trust your gut and do not listen to Bob trying to talk you out of your design choices and him saying “I know bathrooms I’ve been in business for over 40 years”. He tried to talk us out of basically every element of our bathroom but we decided we wanted to keep it how we planned it and we are so glad we did. 6 – They don’t give you much warning when they need a check and say “here’s the amount give it to the worker right now” so to be fair I didn’t do my due diligence. But it ended up at the end we only owed $26 instead of the $1,000 we should have had left. Also they tried to tell us we owed $376 because they “forgot” about a credit we had. So be careful with what they say you owe and make sure you’re keeping good track of it. I tried to be as transparent as possible in this review and share details I think are important to you making your decision. There’s a lot more that went into our interactions with Bob making it an extremely unpleasant experience. If I could do it over and pick someone else I would in a second.

It was excellent. Everybody was very professional and responded to whatever questions you have. I like that they just do baths.

They were great. They give you a 7 day window. It was just not in our budget due to an insurance issue.

They were punctual, responsive, and the work is high quality. Although the job lasted somewhat longer than estimated, we did not care as the result is excellent.

Very professional - cleaned up every evening - they started a couple of weeks earlier than I anticipated and that threw me into a bit of a tizzy! If an personal item was accidently damaged, they made it right by repairing it or replacing it. I would use them again for remodeling bathrooms! He uses top quality materials and coordinates all the trades he needs [plumbing-electrical-tile] so you don't have to do that. That, alone is worth the extra costs. Neighbors called our remodel "the Taj Mahal" of bathrooms! Thanks so much!!

OK, I just finished having my entire master bathroom completely remodeled by Portofino Tile. I would first like to say that I worked in the construction industry for 15 years and I know all the problems that can happen with scheduling, inspections and other miscellaneous items. Having said this, I would now like to say that Portofino tile is without a doubt the BEST contractor I have ever worked with. The job went so smoothly and the final result was absolute perfection! Portofino does nothing but bathrooms and they know their stuff! They have their own team of tile, countertop, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and painter so the scheduling is awesome. My entire bathroom was finished in 7 working days. The final inspection by the city took around 5-10 minutes and everything was perfect! Bob is so talented in design and he guides you along the correct path as you select your colors, etc. He has cutting edge design software and when you walk out of the showroom you know that you?re getting exactly what you want. Nicole is the epitome of efficiency. If you have a question, need something?.anything at all, call or email Nicole and it is immediately handled. Every single tradesman in my house was courteous, friendly, professional and extremely good at their trade. Honestly, I have never, ever had a better experience. My only complaint is that they don?t do kitchens too!!! BTW, I hardly ever write reviews unless the job was so above and beyond that I just need to let people know.

Mostly well. The remodeling took a long time to complete from start to finish but the workers we had were very good. It look much longer than we thought it would but the bathroom looks like a magazine ad. We are very pleased except for a few minor fixes we need to have. The shower head has come loose and we need to have a plumber tighten it. Plus, there is a chip in the granite. Other than that, we are pleased and would use them again.

The work was completed in about five weeks. It would have been quicker, but I added a few things toward the end that slowed things down a bit. All the workers were professional, responsive and did excellent work. My bathroom is completely transformed!! The price I paid was exactly the price Bob gave me before the work began.

The whole project went very well. Bob was able to quickly present a suitable choice of materials that complemented the rest of the bathroom, & he has an uerring eye for design.

Bob has a great showroom with an extensive selection of beautiful tile. He was very helpful in assisting us in the design process so that I didn't feel overwhelmed with choices. We were able to put together a design for the new bathroom during our first visit. Bob explained what to expect during every step of the process and I found that he's an excellent communicator. He did a great job keeping me informed of who was coming when. The bathroom turned out beautifully and we couldn't be more pleased with the end result. Bob has good people working for him. They were always polite and made every effort to keep the area clean as well as the rest of the house. The end result is quality products and quality craftsmen and a beautiful bathroom!

They were very prompt and followed through with what they said they were going to do. There were no surprises, they cleaned up well after completing the work, and did an excellent job

They were great! We picked out new tile, and decided we didn’t like it just before the installation took place. The owner couldn’t have been nicer about it. His attitude was ‘no problem’. He really wanted us to be happy. He was always available to answer questions, and extremely responsive to my phone calls. The workers covered our stairway and bedroom to keep everything as clean as possible during the installation process. I’m very particular, and I couldn’t have been happier with their service. I would highly recommend Portofino Tile to others.

The best thing about Portofino is that they do more than just tile work. Bob, the owner, is very creative and is able to create detailed drawings for you view before work begins. I would recommend you have Bob come over to your home, because he has great ideas for the kitchen, fireplaces, ect.

The work that they did was first class. Their quality of work and professionalism was very good. We had no problem with them. They came and left when they said they would.

The workers showed up on Monday morning as promised. They covered the floor and put up a plastic "zip" wall to keep work dust from getting into the rest of the house. Besides the tilers, there was a carpenter, plumber and an electrician. They were all experienced and professional. They would have been finished in 5 days (by the weekend) except one box of tiles from the tile company was erroneously shipped. The job had to be finished up after the weekend, on Monday and Tuesday. The only negative I have is that I originally wanted a plain color sink vanity top (a corian type for example) and Bob talked me into granite which I don't like at all.

I chose another company because they were too expensive, but I didn't have a bad experience.

Ray, the service person, was scheduled to arrive at noon but was 45 minutes late. He did apologize for his tardiness and then inspected the shower and took photos. He then left and said we would have an estimate by no later than Saturday. Bob, the owner, did call on Sunday asking for an e-mail address and said the estimate would be sent that day or the next. However, we never received an estimate, so I phoned Bob to ask what it might be. Bob was very rude on the phone and didn't want to give us an estimate. He said that the other companies I had over didn't know what they were talking about and that he was not interested in doing business with us.

I replaced my wood burning fireplace and was attempting to lay ceramic tile myself (it looked easy). I got part way through the work and I did not like how my DIY project was turning out. I made the call to Bob at Portafino Tile and he was able to take out all my bad work and replace it with top shelf craftsmanship. Portafino Tile had remodeled my Master Bath floor and Shower last year and I knew they did great work.

I was going to purchase tile and attempt the project myself. I met Bob at Portifino and the price he quoted was not that much more than I had planned on spending doing it myself. The work was completed on time and on budget. The workmanship was fabulous. So much so that we had Portifino come back in April 2009 to tile our fireplace.

That price included the tile and the labor costs. Their advice that they gave us was helpful. The showroom was by appointment only. We met with the owner and he was good to work with. He had strong opinions on how the work should be done and that was extremely helpful. We were pleased that the supervisor came to our home to get things started. He then came at the end to make sure everything was done properly.
