Steve seemed professional enough. Pricing was somewhat higher than another bid, but he was willing to lay down barrier sheeting. Worked generally performed in evenings for a few hours, some visits on weekends. Since crawlspace not locked, I was not always present during whole time that work was in progress. One vent in Livign Room did not blow out air previously. After ductwork replaced, that one inside vent still did not have perceivable air flow. Steve figured new collars needed. This was $225 in addition to the primary contract. He installed 3. Still no air flow from that 1 vent. I left voicemail asking if he had any other ideas. No response. With summer coming, I called in another contractor to see if he could figure out solution. Contractor#2 went under house. He said the work was not up to code, that a permit should have been pulled. Multiple connection points were not adequatley insulated and wrapped. Not even the vapor barrier was laid out completely. Only the area close to the hatch that a would be able to see was installed properly. Steve incommunicado most of April and May. Did not respond to emails. Voice mail box full - would not accept any phone messages. Finally resorted to filing formal complaint with NC Licensing Board. Received form letter back that complaint was received and would be investigated.
Description of Work: Under written contract, supposed to replace old rigid metal ductwork in crawlspace with insulated flex ducts, ensure connections tight and sealed, install plastic sheeting as vapor barrier.

I usually don't read the Angie's List printed magazine, but I picked up the April 2013 addition and saw a coupon from iAir advertising 50% off of service calls for Angie's List members this month. We live in a rural area (McGee's Crossroads) that many companies on Angie's List won't service, but when I called iAir on Saturday they didn't hesitate to put me on their schedule. At my request, Steve came out on Monday morning to look at our system. After looking at the duct work, he came back with good news. He explained to me how duct work was constructed (an outer layer of plastic, with an inner layer of insulation surrounding the actual "duct" that carries the air). He told me that what the other contractor saw was water inside this outer layer of plastic (due to a small tear) -- the inner duct was completely dry and not exposed to the crawl space environment. Steve gave me a quote to replace this duct, but was honest and let me know that it was "not an emergency" at this point. He recommended that we complete our work on drying out the crawl space first, then we could consider replacing the return duct if we wanted too. At this point the minor damage to the insulation on the return side is not strongly affecting the efficiency of our unit, however, prolonged exposure to water could cause further deterioration. Steve was both friendly and knowledgeable. The next time we need service on our unit, we would definitely call him.
Description of Work: We are having drainage issues in our crawl space that another contractor gave us an estimate on. The crawl space contractor noticed what he thought was water inside of our main air duct return line going back to the exterior HVAC unit. He recommended we have a professional HVAC contractor diagnose the problem as it was out of his field. Steve Stargardt of iAir was hired to look at the unit.

The process went very well.
Description of Work: We're adding onto our home. The person who began the installation of our new HVAC unit went out of business. According to that estimate, the initial hvac person still had $1,000 of work left to do. We called iAir for an estimate to finish the project. Steve came out promptly, evaluated the situation, and told us "There's not $1000 worth of work left to do." We were impressed with his honesty. When Steve emailed his 1st estimate, however, it showed just a bit over $1K. We took out some of the labor costs by doing some things ourselves, and ended up paying $589 for the following: He wired 2 thermostats to existing t-stat wire, installed control panel and discharge air sensor, connected controller to the thermostats, connected a zoning damper , reprogrammed controls for efficient operation and test, prepared the refrigerant lines for charging with refrigerant, checked system for leaks, released refrigerant into refrigerant lines, performed standard start up of equipment, integrated zone control panel with previously installed HVAC system and returned all components to normal operation. Provided two 20X20 return grills with 1 inch filter compartment. This work was all done promptly, and it seems that all is in great working order! We plan to hire him for the semi-annual check of both our hvac units in future.

Steve stated depending on where the leak was he could possibly fix it. He indeed fixed it saving us considerable of money.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our evaporator coil. Most companies wanted to replace coil for 1,800 or replace the whole unit because it was 8 years old.

Response from iAir, Inc
iAIR, Inc was contacted by the Member's and were prepared to offer quotes for new systems and replacement parts. We feel our pricing was very competitive. We set ourselves about from many HVAC contractors because we believe that most all equipment can be "made whole" for a significant savings in costs when placed against the cost of a replacement system or parts. This was the case here. There may be additional problems in the future because of the system's age and lack of regular maintenance but replacing the coil was not the most attractive option here.
