Dennis came on time to do the testing and was very professional and knowledgeable. He looked at the insulation and was not sure it was mold because the wood was very clean and looked good. He checked around the whole basement and told us that he was almost certain that we had no moisture problem in our basement. Dennis said he would test it, but he didn't want to just take our money. I thought that showed so much integrity. He could have done it anyway. He only charged us a small amount for a house call, as well as all the good advice he gave us. We thought that was fair. He discussed the workshop/garage that we have in part of the basement and some other things that we should do before we begin the process of finishing the basement. I would recommend HHR because of how well we were treated in this process. Even thought the testing was not completed, we felt confident that Dennis gave us such good advice and information.
Description of Work: We had a concern in our basement that there was moisture or mold on the insulation. We were planning to finish off the basement and wanted to make sure before we put walls up that it wasn't mold. We had already used a mold kit from Lowes and we knew that that may not be accurate, so we contacted HHR.

It was a pleasure working with Health Home Restoration. Dennis provided a fair price to encapsulate the crawl space. Amy who was the person of contact, would let me know in the afternoon what work was planned for the next day. Each day the crew arrived on time. They worked steadily and did very professional work every step of the way. They kept the job site clean while they were there. In the end the crawl space was encapsulated and the smell of mold and mildew was gone from my house. To top it off, Dennis came back at the end to inspect the work and found some minor items that he wanted his crew to fix. This was after I paid him. The crew fixed them just a few days later and we were very happy with the results.

They were timely, efficient and great price. I actually had a situation where I needed this installed in 2 days and they made an exception and were able to come out in that time. I got a total of 6 quotes from other companies. I went with Healthy Home because they were they 2nd least expensive and were able to get it done when I needed it.

HHR is a wonderful company to do business with. They treated my home like it was THEIR home, and as a homeowner, I really appreciate this. The work started with, Dennis the owner, coming out to see what was going on in our crawlspace. He patiently explained everything very thoroughly and provided a quote that day, which was very competitive. He clearly knows his stuff. Basically, we needed a drain dug around the perimeter of the crawlspace to handle the water issue. We decided to go ahead and do encapsulation as well...this was not needed to fix the water issue, but the crawlspace had mold and rodents and was just very dirty. It is now clean, mold-free and rodent-free. Amy or Chris would call me each day and let me know who would be there the next day, what they would be doing and what time they would arrive. Each and every employee that came to work at my house was top notch.....they were friendly, helpful, attentive to fine details, quality oriented, and had very positive attitudes. I highly recommend HHR.....they are an A+ company!
Description of Work: I first used them when my insurance company brought them in for water mitigation when my dishwasher leaked all over my hardwoods. They sealed off the kitchen and brought in industrial drying equipment and 'heat mats' (not sure this is the right term) which went down on the hardwoods to suck up the moisture. I liked them so well that when my crawlspace developed a water problem a few months later, I hired them to fix it. They put a drain around the perimeter of the crawlspace (inside), and routed the water out of the crawlspace and into the backyard, and drained it into a space away from the house. Then they encapsulated the crawlspace....this process cleans up the crawspace, removes all the old insulation and mold, puts a vapor barrier across the entire floor & up the walls, and seals the vents and any hole or cracks that rodents, etc may be getting in....when they were done, it was sealed up tight! I also had them insulate the walls of the crawlspace with foam-board insulation.

The job went very well. Dennis C*** (the owner) came out as scheduled to give me an estimate. He is very personable, straightforward, and knowledgeable. I wanted a solution that I could set and mostly forget about. HHR's estimate was far below others, mainly because did not try to sell me anything I did not need. He was very helpful in answering all questions and putting them in plain English and took all the time I needed to help me understand what solution he was recommending. Other companies were trying to offer solutions that required constant upkeep and maintenance. Before the work was to have begun, I discovered some standing water where I hadn't noticed any before, shortly after a rain. Dennis came back out to take a second look and recommended additional drainage that was not part of the original estimate, which was no problem for them to merge with the existing job. While this job was more than I had originally planned on spending, I now have a cleaner, drier, and healthier crawlspace. The team was able to start on the start date, and, though it took an additional day or so due to the additional drainage work and the weather, I was pleased with the thoroughness and professionalism. I always got a call at the end of each work day to update me on the progress and when they would arrive at my house, in addition to any potential issues. All questions and requests were handled very well. After the work was completed, Dennis came out to inspect the final product. I would happily use them again for their other services and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I have a 1950s home with a damp and sometimes wet crawlspace. Previous owner put plastic down on the ground, but did not seal to the foundation walls/piers so I still had a moisture problem.

I called HHR with concerns that we had mold in our kitchen (nothing was visible). After relaying my concerns, they said that instead of having to spend the cost of the mold inspection and the mold tests, they could have a technician come out and do a spot check to see if they saw any signs that would necessitate scheduling a full inspection. They were able to get a time scheduled within a day and with something that worked with my schedule (which was super nice considering I wasn't yet a paying customer!). Mike arrived on time and and was very friendly to us and our dog. He listened to our concerns, checked the areas we were worried about and our crawl space and gave us some suggestions on how we could take care of the issues ourselves and what they could do for us. We didn't end up having to schedule a mold inspection and tests, but Mike gave us some suggestions to help prevent future mold issues and heating and cooling efficiency. We will definitely be calling them back and will keep them in mind for future work.

It went great.......It started when the owner, Dennis Coons, came to the house to do the inspection and provide the estimate. He did a complete inspection, took pictures and measurements, and then came into the house and explained the situation. He took a great deal of time and effort to go over issues like humidity control, sealed crawl spaces, dampness, drainage, insulation, mold and mold remediation, etc....he explained the various methods of crawl space encapsulation and what they were designed for and the effectiveness and purposes of each of them. he then recommended a course of action for my particular crawl space, why he was recommending that particular course of action, and results I could expect based on his personal pre and post installation data collection and findings from previous jobs he had done. Dennis also gave me a rough estimate of how much time it would take and when they could start the work, assuming I awarded the job to them. I called HHS the next week and talked to Amy Heckler in the office and told her I was awarding the job to HHS. She thanked me and then said she would pull up the estimate, review it, and call me back within a day or so to schedule the 1st part of the work. She called the next day and gave me a start date and asked if it was acceptable. It was and the professionalism of this group just took right over from there, I was called the afternoon before the work was to start by Amy, to remind me that the work was starting the next morning and asked if it was still a good time to start. The next morning I received a call from the gentlemen that was starting the work to tell me he would be at the house in 15 minutes, that he understood that I was not at home, but in case someone called to report activity around the house, he would know it was me. Once the job started, there were workmen there everyday. Every afternoon Amy or a PM would call from the office to tell me the workmen had finished for the day and left, and who would be back in the morning, and what they were going to do. If I was not able to directly answer the call, they left a message and a call back number, in the event that I had questions or issues. They completed all of the work in about 5 days. When the work was completed, Amy called and informed that the crew was done and that she wanted to schedule a walk through with Dennis at my convenience. We settled on Friday March 29th for the walk through at 2PM. On Friday, Dennis called me when he was approximately 10 minutes from the house to confirm I was there and to notify me that he was on the way. The inspection went great with 1 minor punch list item to be followed up on this week. This was a terrific experience with a well run company. It's clear that professionalism and customer service are the major tenants of this company, along with delivering a superior experience, backed by top quality work and results.
Description of Work: The team at HHS rebuilt the footing drains for my house, including trenching the inside of the crawl space foundation on 3 sides, bringing in crushed stone, laying over 100 ft of drainage pipe, and installing a new 6 inch plastic pipe at the foundation drain out into the original drainage spot. They sealed off all of the crawl space vents. They installed heavy mil plastic on the floor, up the foundation walls and the up the piers in the crawl space, taped it closed and sealed with the taped areas with furring strips. They sealed around all of the vents from the duct work as well as all of the entry and exit holes for pipes and electrical wires. They treated the relevant areas with mold retardant. They insulated between all of the floor joists where they lay on the sill plate. They installed a vent in the duct work so the heat/air conditioning could flow into the crawl space. And finally, they rebuilt the door to the crawl space, insulated it, installed weather stripping around the door opening and installed additional slide locks on the outside of the door to keep the door securely closed and sealed.....

I've worked with Dennis twice. First, I was in an apartment that I suspected had mold in the basement because I got extremely ill. Dennis came out to test it, and I shared the results with the complex. I was able to break the lease, vacate the apartment and begin the process of healing my lungs. Second, a few years later I was in the market to buy a condo. Before I signed the paperwork and just to be on the safe side, I called Dennis to do an air quality test and mold inspection. Dennis understands the dangers of living with mold and remembered how sick I was, so he made certain to do a thorough assessment. He crawled into small spaces, got extra equipment from his truck to do so, explained what he was doing, and answered all of my questions. Dennis was able to work me in quickly to fit the schedule of all of those involved in the real estate transaction. In this seemingly-immaculate and well-kept condo, he found evidence of black mold, which the lab confirmed. I am so thankful that I kept Dennis' contact information all of these years; I honestly believe that Dennis saved my life ... and he has a repeat customer for the rest of it!

We had another company mention to us that we should consider doing a Vapor Barrier due to a few things found under the house. It so happened that I had noticed that they were having a special on it on the deals page. The company gave me a quote since they were already at the house performing other services. To confirm that a vapor barrier was needed I wanted to get a second opinion and get other estimates. I called Healthy Home Restoration and scheduled an appointment because all the reviews were great. With Healthy Home Specializing in this area, we were pleased to find that they were honest and upfront that the items the other company noted are completely normal and that really the current vapor barrier we have was fine and still had more years of life to it. The estimator left with no real issues, but did offer a full seal to be done later on down the road, but as of right now, everything looked good. We will definately keep your card handy for future needs. Thanks!
Description of Work: We called Healthy Home to provide us an estimate for a Vapor Barrier and to inspect if anything else needed to be done under the house. With this being their specialized skill, I was interested to see if we needed to improve on anything going on under the house (the LEAST looked upon spot).

This is a small company with excellent staff. They care, they are professional and they get the job done. No they do not "restore" or offer turnkey service but for me I wanted a reasonable cost to correct and get the home's water damage back to safe and sound. I planned to contract out work with plumbers/ tiler etc we already knew. Perfectly happy and would definatly hire them again. PS Their quote was 800 and another A rated restoration company on Angies was 2000 for the exact same demolition work (and I mean apples to apples). I couldn't believe the difference in price. I am happy to say now that the work is done I saved 1200 bucks without an ounce of quality sacraficed. I would call Healthy Home first next time.

Called Healthy Home Restoration upon recommendation of plumber, whom we'd called to to perform simple repair of leaky toilet - which was much worse than we'd expected (see above). Estimator came right out and did thorough inspection of damaged areas, took lots of pictures, including in the crawl space, and did a thorough job explaining what was wrong and what would need to be done to repair the damage. Their 2-man crew was able to come and do the agreed upon demolition within a few days and they did a great job getting the damaged, rotting wood cleaned up and putting in temporary sub flooring, along with setting up drying and dehumidifying equipment. The only minor complaint I have is that they left the vanity/sink in our living room - but it was either that or outside on our porch. They returned in a few days and cleared away their equipment - but the next part of this project is where it all 'fell apart'. The major complaint I have about this project is regarding the repair companies Healthy Home Restoration recommended to us to complete this job. The first one they recommended took days to return my calls, and then stated they didn't have time to do the job. In the meantime, I asked if they had another contractor they could recommend and they said they would call another person they knew who was 'good'. I waited another few days (the demolition had been completed by this time), and never received a call. I called Healthy Home Restoration and they again said that they would contact the person. I had to make a point ask to receive a name and phone number of the contractor so that I could follow up, which they finally gave me. When the contractor finally contacted me later that same day, he indicated was VERY busy, but could come and inspect the bathroom to give us an estimate several days later. During his inspection, he stated that the flooring under the tub/shower was also damaged and would need to be removed before he would even be able to give me an estimate. He called Healthy Home Restoration and they sent someone out immediately, along with a plumber, and the three men proceeded to attempt to remove the tub/shower enclosure, which included removing about 6 to 8 inches of drywall around the tub. After this was done, there was some discussion amongst the three different specialists, and the repair contractor stated that the tub didn't need to be removed and he would send me an estimate for repair, but had a family emergency and he would be out of town for a few days - but he would send me an estimate by email before he left. I never received the email, and I called and left messages which were not returned. He called several weeks later and said that my email had bounced the estimate, and, after confirming my email address, he would re-send it. I never received anything. I hope this guy isn't on Angie's list because, frankly, his customer service is hideous. We eventually found another contractor (through Angie's list) and the job was completed a month and a half later, but the whole experience with both of the repair contractors recommended by Healthy Home Restoration, especially the 2nd one, leads me to downgrade them overall. If you use Healthy Home Restoration, DO NOT bother to take their recommendation for follow-up contractors.
Description of Work: Bathroom demolition and clean-up following toilet/sewage leak and subsequent contamination of subfloor and vanity/sink. Removed toilet, vanity/sink, vinyl floor, subfloor, insulation in crawl space; clean-up including disinfecting and dehumidifying bathroom, flooring, and crawlspace. Attempted to remove tub and shower enclosure, but after removing dry-wall all around tub enclosure, decided floor under tub was OK and thus, removal was not needed.

Top grade professional work throughout. Detailed estimate was provided up front and Dennis worked with me (patiently) to add and remove some items from the work list, in order to fit my budget. Dennis did a complete inspection and provided digital pictures of the crawlspace so that I could see the trouble spots. The job took several days and the crew worked quickly and professionally & never left a mess behind at the end of a day's work. Once the job was complete, Dennis came out for a final inspection to ensure that the work was done to satisfaction. Amy provided clear and precise information before, during and after the work was complete to ensure that I was satisfied with the work that was done. The final bill was exactly as quoted in the estimate. I am highly recommend HHR and would gladly use them in the future.

HHR salesman was very professional and honest. The service team was excellent. They cleaned the crawl space of all debris, cleaned the mold and replaced the installation in one small area and laid down new plastic on the crawl space floor. The crawl space looked brand new which was amazing for this 30 year old home. The service team was very professional and showed me all the work that was performed first hand.
Description of Work: Home inspection prior to home sale noted that crawl space had mold infestation. They recommended that we bring in a company to remove the mold. I called HHR and two other firms near the home. HHR came out and performed a thorough inspection of the crawl space. They found that there was a small amount of mold but the bigger issue and most apparent was a cricket infestation which gives similar appearance to mold. They found that the sump pump for the air conditioner had tripped the breaker and caused moisture in the crawl space and that the previous company had not fully covered the crawl space with plastic. They gave me a quote to clean the mold area and replace the installation ($450)in that area plus remove and lay down new plastic. The other two firms spent little to no time in the basement and gave me a quote to remove the mold, replace all installation and lay down new plastic. No mention of the cricket issue. The other quotes where very high between 4- 6 thousand.

The crew was great. I barely knew they were here except the last day (it took 4 days to seal my home) when the crew chief had to come in to install an air vent in a closet. this draws air into the crawlspace to keep it about the same temp as the upstairs. When the next cold spell hit, I could feel the difference. I could walk around in my bare feet in the morning and when I sit in my living room at night, my feet are warm (I keep my furnace on 72 during the day and 64 at night). My tooties thank HHR. I will know about the energy efficiency in Jan and Feb. but I do know that my furnace isn't running as much as it was. My crawlspace is clean and neat. I hope any potential buyer of my home in the future will appreciate the crawlspace improvement.
Description of Work: After a friend had her house inspected for a sale, the inspector found mold in the crawlspace . She was forced to have it removed and seal the crawlspace to complete the sale. I decided to have HHR inspect my house's crawlspace for mold (it's NC, of course there is mold in the crawlspace!). my house's crawlspace had the typical vapor barrier laid down on the earth and fiber glass insulation between the floor joists with tiny covered air vents in the foundation. They found a little bit of mold, but a little bit in a house that isn't even 10 yrs old will become alot over the next 10 yrs (about the time I might consider selling). Besides sealing the crawlspace will improve energy efficiency and make the home feel warmer in the winter time. I figured I might as well enjoy the warmer and drier home now. So the first week of Nov HHR sent their team to my home to seal the crawlspace and install drainage along the front wall where water from the driveway and house gutter spill is seeping in.

I was contacted promptly. Dennis C*** came over to the house and conducted his inspection. He submitted his report and photos to me electronically within a few days. We discussed what needed to be done to the crawlspace and set a service date. Service was conducted over 4.5 days. I inspected the crawlspace and wrote a check for the service after it was completed.
Description of Work: The company conducted an inspection of my house and crawlspace and also did air quality testing for mold. The company then produced a written report with photos of its findings. An estimate of what services would be needed was produced. The company cleared out my crawlspace of old insulation, rodent droppings, camel crickets and a snake, evened out the crawlspace floored, sealed all the house vents, relocated and upgraded my dryer vent, installed insulation on the top of the crawlspace, installed a thick plastic vapor barrier throughout the crawlspace and replaced/upgraded the door to the crawlspace.

Background: A Lowes contractor came out to measure my house for new flooring. He measured the moisture content of the subfloor around 46% in certain areas. I was thinking I needed a new vapor barrier or there was some other major issue, so I called Healthy Home Restoration to investigate and provide an estimate on what I needed. Dennis C*** came out on time and investigated the situation. When he was finished he told me I had a leaking toilet (and that it leaked when it flushed so if I just stop using it I would not need to cut off the water supply) and a duct sealing problem and AC rain guard leakage. He told me to hire a plumber and a heating tech! He also explained to me the Lowes contractor did not properly measure the floor and that he needed a different tool to measure or to use the same tool, but pull the carpet back in order to properly measure the floor. He spent a lot of time with me and I am VERY thankful to him for his expertise and honesty. I asked him if I owed him anything for his time and he would not accept any payment. I immediately called the plumber and he said I needed an additional wax ring. I then called the AC tech and he pointed out the exact same areas of concern Dennis C*** had showed me needed repair. I then called Lowes and had the contractor remeasure with the correct technique - which he reluctantly agreed was incorrect the first time - he only measured the carpet. The new reading read 11-18%. Dennis was accurate in each situation. I am truly thankful for his analysis and honesty.

I was thinking I needed a new vapor barrier or there was some other major issue, so I called Healthy Home Restoration to investigate and provide an estimate on what I needed. Dennis C*** came out on time and investigated the situation. When he was finished he told me I had a leaking toilet (and that it leaked when it flushed so if I just stop using it I would not need to cut off the water supply) and a duct sealing problem and some AC rain guard leakage.

First let me qualify that the people I dealt with were not misleading and did not intentionally mishandle the job. Although they claimed a long history in the industry under a different name, at this point in time they had practically all new employees assigned to my job. The only reason we went with this company over other companies recommended by our insurance company is that they also handled sealing the crawl space, which was something we had intended to do prior to the water damage. I figured this would be the best time to do it since it dovetailed with the mold removal, replacement of insulation, and it would be better to deal with one company throughout the whole process. One of the first signs that I made a wrong decision was when I learned that they would only do the mold remediation and the crawl space - the middle tasks of replacing the flooring and drywall would have to be contracted out. If they had handled the contracting of the general contractor, I would not have been the wiser of some of the other red flags I'll describe later. Instead, they gave me the name of two contractors for me to call- but one claimed to being new to the industry and the other had four jobs ahead of mine and was not licensed in NC. My foyer/hall/bath/closets were all torn up by the time I learned they had not scheduled a contractor. I had not intended on handling all the coordination and scheduling of multiple companies. Here are some of the things that raised concern: - they left the tile in the water heater closet in place during the initial drying process. This was where the most severe water damage would have occurred and should have been removed at the same time all the other tiles were removed (not days later) Tthe tile wasn't even under the water heater, so it's not like they had to remove the water heater first. - although they took care to hang plastic with zippers in all the doorways, it was not secured adequately with gaping wholes that defeated the purpose - the dryers they used were huge and made a TON of noise - so much so, that we had to get a hotel in order to sleep. The reason I know the dryers were unreasonably loud is because the replacement crew used smaller dryers that literally hummmed in comparison. - did not recommend any wood floor removal, but I later learned that water had gotten under the flooring in the master closet and that floor needed to be removed/replaced. - they did not replace the window screen that was removed when they vented a piece of their equipment. - did not show up with adequate equipment: forgot the batteries for the camera, didn't have a broom one day, borrowed my movers straps to move the heavy washer - things I would have thought they should have thought of - there were some things in the crawl space that the new company re-did, but since I never actually went down there to check, I cannot say exactly what was done incorrectly the first time. - as mentioned earlier, having to handle the job in a piecemeal fashion was what I'd hoped to avoid, which could have been prevented with better communications (I suppose I can take responsibility for part of that - but this is the first time I'd been through something like this and didn't know all the right questions to ask) The owner of the company personally came out to discuss the situation with me. He was very professional and courteous and regretted I ended up with a less-than-experienced crew. He offered to try to make it right, but at that point, I wasn't sure that he could do so within an immediate time frame. I was also extremely impressed with one of the other companies listed with our insurance company, so I was more comfortable going with them. It pains me to give a negative review because, like I said earlier, they were not intentionally performing poor work. Although I would not hire them again at this time, I do believe they will take lessons learned from this job and are committed to building an experienced team that will provide exemplary work and customer service in the future.
Description of Work: Water leak caused extensive floor damage and mold in the crawlspace. They started on 9/21 and were asked to wrap up by 9/27. Insurance covered the expenses incurred directly with the company, so I do not know how much they were paid. They removed tile, dehumidified the space, treated the mold in the crawl space.

Excellent service all around. Denise did a full inspection providing pictures from all through the crawl space and detailed estimate. Scheduling by Amy was fantastic (she was great to work with!). Very professional workers - cleaned up every day, explained what they were doing, etc.

Healthy Home Restoration was great - they were very quick to respond and handled everything for us - and they made the whole process as smooth as possible for us! We had water damage in several rooms and under the floors, and they dried it out very well, and went above and beyond expectations in their service. We would definitely hire them again, and I highly recommend them.

It's a lot of money, but we got a solution to a big problem. This was the only company that provided detailed information about what was going on in our crawl space, without scare tactics, detailed information about what we needed, and the only company that allerted us to the fact that we had termites. Once the termites were treated, the company came in and sealed the crawl space, protecting our house and our home from mold and mildew, and helping us lower our electric bill. The owner took extensive pictures of the problems, and was thoroughly knowledgable. And, he was not the most expensive quote we received. Everything went well, and we were glad we did it.
Description of Work: In one week, workers pulled out all insulation, cleaned out the crawl space (including snakes), sealed the space with proper materials, installed a new access door.

Suspected mold problem in one of my closets. The man came checked closets and looked around. He checked around and assured me that there is no "mold causing" problem. We were not able to come up with the reason how the mold started. However I felt much better to go forward cleaning the area. He also told me using the dish washing detergent will do the trick. Dry the cloths after washing in a dryer should be good. He was very helpful answering my questions. My dog loved meeting him as well. They did not charge me any for coming over and checking. The experience was very pleasant from the beginning starting when I called the company as soon as I got the name by calling the Angie's. I was given 2 company names. Ones of them had special. I thought hard and decided to call this company which did not have special. I think it was the right decision. I will call them again if / when I ever need any of the services they provide. Calling the Angie's list and selecting this company was the great decision. I was treated with respect. Thank you!
Description of Work: The service was excellent and very professional!
