_________________________________________________________________ At the completion of our project, Mr. Raneri told both me and my husband that if we had any issues on work performed on our project to give him a call, as he provides a 1 year warranty on his work. Now, Chris Raneri is defaulting on his express promise and moral/ethical obligation as a licensed NC General Contractor and as a PMP PROFESSIONAL. In December 2010, we noticed a couple of boards in our rec room that were beginning to peel up. Since Mr. Raneri said to call him with any issues, we tried. My husband or I called Chris several times (12/15, 12/17, 12/20), leaving voicemails that we had an issue and for him to call us. To help ensure that he would get our message, I also sent him an email on 12/17 to both of his email addresses (chris@cprconstructionnc.com and cpraneri@yahoo.com). However, Mr. Raneri never responded to my email or any of our calls, and we had to go directly to the flooring contractor, which Chris hired. At the end of December, his flooring contractor told us those boards would need to be replaced. The flooring crew came to our home on Jan 12 and replaced the bad boards. As of this writing, Mr. Raneri has NEVER contacted us regarding our voicemails or email. Would you hire someone you have heard has been dishonest/deceitful to a client, lacks character and integrity, and, in essence, takes your money and runs? _________________________________________________________________ There are before and after pictures of our renovation on CPR’s website. The clincher on this is that Chris Raneri took these pictures without first asking permission to take pictures, nor did he get verbal or written permission to use them to market his work. By his doing this without my permission, he has egregiously invaded my privacy (tort of instrusion). Mr. Raneri is not only holding out the pictures of my home to evidence his alleged quality of work – particularly the shoddy painting – but he is also making money off of his website by obtaining new customers at my expense and on something that is my “property,” which he obtained without my express or implied permission. Since he is benefiting from something that is my “property” without getting my permission, I demand that Mr. Raneri reasonably compensate me for the use of my property since the 3rd week of July. If Mr. Raneri would like to continue using the photos of my basement, he may do so if and only if he agrees to compensate me for their use. Otherwise, I demand that Chris Raneri immediately cease and desist from any further use of any “before and after” pictures of my basement renovation, i.e., website, portfolio, or wherever else he may have pictures of my basement, and turn them over to me, leaving no copies to surface again in the future.
Description of Work: UPDATE: Chris Raneri was reported to the NC Attorney General and the BBB of NC. His responses to both of their inquiries did not address all issues, but what he did choose to address, he so grossly falsified his responses. Is this the type of individual you would like to have to work on your home project.....an individual who doesn't have any self-esteem and can so grossly and uncaringly compromise his own integrity? We not only learned from our own personal experience, but from these falsifications, that Mr. Raneri has his head so high in the clouds, he is not getting the necessary oxygen he needs to differentiate his fantasies from the actual truth. WARNING: Think twice before venturing into a contract with Chris Raneri, DBA CPR Construction. ------------------------- We have 3 complaints on Chris Raneri, DBA CPR Construction The first issue is with the painters Chris hired for our project. With regard to our painting issue, we would recommend NEVER hiring CPR Construction, i.e., Chris Raneri, for any kind of painting. That is one aspect on which we totally distrust this GC! Mr. Raneri claims on his website (www.CPRConstructionNC.com) under the “Remodels” heading under the “What We Do” tab that he offers “custom painting.” From our experience with the painter which Mr. Raneri hired for our project, his website statement is false. In essence, Chris Raneri is falsely representing himself, is guilty of false advertising, and therefore, lacks integrity and character. The 2nd issue is with Chris Raneri now defaulting on the 1 year warranty for his work. With respect to that issue, we strongly suggest NEVER hiring Mr. Raneri for any kind of renovation or repairs. His word means nothing! Thirdly, Mr. Raneri obtained and is illegally using my property for his benefit. And with this being said, ask yourself if this is the kind of person you want to hire to perform work in your home – your personal space!!! There is a “Testimonials” page on Mr. Raneri’s website. If you so choose to read any of these “walk on water” testimonials, please don’t let them fool you into hiring Chris Raneri, DBA CPR Construction!!! As it stands right now, Chris Raneri took our money and ran, even for the painters, with no plans of ever returning, and he’s making money off of my “property” that he illegally obtained. This man totally lacks integrity, morals, ethics, character, trustworthiness, honesty, and professionalism! If you ever hire him, you are doing so at your own risk!!! ***N O T E *** Please see below for the details regarding each complaint. _________________________________________________________________ In April 2010, my husband and I hired CPR Construction, i.e., owner Chris P. Raneri, to renovate our basement. CPR commenced renovations on May 10, 2010. Chris hired and managed all of the sub-contractors, one of them being a painter. The painting company which Chris hired was – The Painting Company – owned/co-owned by a fellow by the name of Ricardo. Prior to our project commencing, Chris told us that he did not know who he would be hiring to paint our basement. That should have been a clue for us right then. Almost as soon as The Painting Company crew began painting, we noticed that the quality of their work was sub-standard and shoddy, and their common consideration for a homeowner was totally careless and unprofessional. The Painting Company’s paint job was far from “custom,” as CPR claims they provide. Their work was most definitely unacceptable! Anybody can claim they’re a painter! Although I’m not a professional painter, I could have done a better quality job than The Painting Company! I articulated my concerns to Chris upfront regarding this painting crew’s overall intelligence, as well as their lack of painting quality and professionalism. Apparently, Chris took great offense to our concerns and comments because I gave him the facts and truth about someone he had hired, and I suppose the truth hurt! Chris told me that Ricardo had done work for him at Toll Brothers in the past, and he had never before experienced any issues with Ricardo’s work. Once we voiced our concerns about the painters, Chris evidently chose from that point on to pretty much ignore our complaints and feelings about having this particular painting company around. He allowed them to remain for the life of the project instead of firing them and hiring a more experienced, competent, intelligent, reputable, and professional crew to provide us with the “custom” paint job we deserved, for which he supposedly takes pride in marketing, AND for which we were paying. Possibly because Chris hired them for real cheap and by firing them and hiring someone else, it would have not only put the project behind, but it would have meant less money in Mr. Raneri’s back pocket? I later learned that a realtor who had been recommending Chris to their clients had dropped him from their recommendation list as well as from their website because they had been receiving numerous complaints about Chris and/or his subs. We learned that Chris had an obligation with this realtor to use their painter, but Chris chose to use his own painter instead, which for our project, was most definitely a mistake. When this realtor heard the details of my complaint, that reassured them that the decision they had made to drop Chris was the right thing to do. This was proof to them, and to me as well, that Chris lacks morals, integrity, ethics, and professionalism. Chris should have never permitted this paint crew and/or their constant mistakes to continue for as long as they did. It only put undue stress and wasted effort on everyone involved. He should have fired this incompetent crew of painters near the beginning and hired a more competent crew that could have gotten the job done in a much more reasonable timeframe, and with less stress!!! And because of the way Chris handled this situation, we lost an undue amount of respect for him! As a “professional” painter, or as the GC in charge of a project, you take precautions upfront in protecting things that need protecting prior to commencing work. Common sense tells you that!!! There is a long list of issues, but just to give you a flavor of unintelligent and careless errors that occurred with The Painting Company, with which Chris Raneri allowed throughout the life of our project, below are the major issues: The crew spilled paint on dirt next to our patio and instead of immediately cleaning up the spill, they covered the spill with a board. When I saw that this board had not moved for 3-4 days, I decided to move it, which is when I discovered the spill. At that point, I brought it to Mr. Raneri’s attention. After doing so, believe it or not, the paint spill was not cleaned up for another week. What was most disturbing to us was that Chris Raneri KNEW we had two dogs that took care of their business in this backyard where the spill was. And, if you’ve ever had a dog, you know they tend to be very curious and get into things that aren’t necessarily good for them. Neither Chris Raneri, nor his worthless paint crew had the common decency, or consideration, to clean this spill up immediately once notified of it!!! Unbelievable! There currently is paint spray on our new woodstove insert, for which Mr. Raneri needs to be responsible for rectifying. Chris nor his painting crew thought ahead to cover our insert up and then keep it covered until the crew was finished painting. We used 2 colors of paint – one for the walls and another for the trim work. We constantly found paint drippings for the trim on our walls and new floor, as well as wall drippings on the floor. They seemed to get paint everywhere and did a halfway paint job. When painting, the crew completely missed paint on numerous areas of the walls, and in others, the paint distribution was totally uneven – thick in some places and thin in others. In lots of places when one color of paint bumped up against another color, the paint line was noticeably crooked instead of even. When finishing our brand new steps, they did an extremely poor, unprofessional job of finishing them. The polyurethane was very unevenly distributed – too much in one area and not enough in another. They couldn’t keep the polyurethane on the steps; they ended up getting more than they should have on the step risers as well as getting drops of the polyurethane on our new floor, and wall. And, Mr. Raneri constantly made excuses for the way the polyurethane looked. The Painting Company also damaged our two bottom steps, for which Mr. Raneri refused to take responsibility and replace, although the damage was created by a worthless crew that he hired. Mr. Raneri’s response to the damage was to #1 – leave it alone, but with the dents, or #2 – patch it. The patch job looks horrendous and is totally unprofessional looking, and therefore, Mr. Raneri needs to be held to his “high standard of work and professional ethics” and to his “high level of integrity” and make us whole by replacing these two steps, i.e., with no damage and finishing them the way they should be, which is what we paid him for to begin with and didn’t get. We did not pay good money for new steps to end up looking shoddy due to carelessness.
