Working with CRS is so easy. They measured and provided a quote. They walk you through everything that will happen if you select their services (photos, clean up, product lines, qualifications). Any time I had a question, they responded quickly. They were on time starting the project every day. They alert you when any additional sheets need to be replaced so you don't have any surprises when it comes time to write the check. My new roof looks fantastic- no more leaks! I'm so pleased with the results and how easy it was to work with them.
Description of Work: Replaced roof (shingles, edging, any plywood, flashing, etc.) and added venting (which replaced two useless attic fans). My house is a Victorian-style with gables and has a few porch roofs as well that were replaced.

Roof repair was fine. My gutters needed two elbow spouts installed. One on the left and one on the right. Unfortunately they had only one elbow spout on the truck at the day of repair. The missing elbow duct was not replaced until earlier this month after I had to call the owner from Aug. 2011 to Feb. 2012. He told me to engage another company to replace the elbow spout and I left numerous messages for them but they never responded. I continued calling CSR every 4 -5 weeks to remind them. In Nov. the owner of SCR called the lady and told her to add this part to my roof. Unfortunately he left that msg on my answering machine. I called and reported same to Son of owner. I finally called again earlier this month and the owner of the company exploded on the phone and thold me he had never met anyone that had "hounded" him this much and to get the builder to take care of the missing part. The builder never agreed to repair anything claiming a short two year roof warranty. (Another story all together).... I reminded CSR of the circumstances of the situation and FINALLY a company came and installed the missing elbow spout. It took from Augl 2011 until Feb. 2012 to get this missing part installed. I did not appreciate being scolded for asking for something to complete the roof repair 100%. It is not my problem how they stock their truck!
Description of Work: I previously gave this company an A+++ ranking and still think that they are a very good roofing company. They were professional, punctual and thoroughly tested the roof for leakage after the work had been performed.

This lady had a contractor go out and tear off her fascia, gutters, and some soffit. They would not go back and finish the work. She called our company and we went out and told her she needed some shingle work done before the gutter work was installed with her EXISTING down spouts. Both down spout elbows were missing and we gave her one elbow that we had on the truck. All of the work was done and we told her that the other company had removed the elbow and suggested that she get them to return the elbow and replace it. She called back later and said that they had thrown it away and we should replace it. I asked her why we should replace what someone else threw away. Her answer what that the other company refused to go back out again. Why are we the bad buy for what they did? I finally told her to go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the elbow and I would personally put it in for her. Weeks later she called again and said we need to come and install the elbow. I asked her if she had purchased it and she said no. So I gave her the gutter company that does gutters for us and told her to call them and that they would go out and install the elbow at no charge. Months later she called and said she could not get them to go out. She was very rude about the fact that we should have done the elbow initially. We only contracted to CONNECT her existing down spout to the new gutter we installed. She continued to call and complain. I called the gutter company one time and they agreed to go, which they did. I have no idea why she could not get to the gutter people. I made one phone call, got them to go out and install a $3.00 elbow. This homeowner is nice enough, but she just assumed since we did a repair, that we should be responsible for anything left undone, regardless of what our agreement was. She was never scolded, she just didn’t hear what she wanted to hear. Our agreement was completed and now the original contractor’s work was completed by us as well. Unfortunately this client had a bad contractor who took advantage of her, inside the home as well as outside. Our work was completed August 2011. We repaired the other contractors’ work February 2012. I’m sorry for her bad experience with the other contractor, but isn’t it strange that she wrote this review after we fixed someone else’s short coming on their work? R. Van Starling, Sr. President

I had a really good experience and I think they have a long term good track record. They did a really good job and were pleasant to deal with. I have a crew that’s been with them for many years; so it’s my understanding that most roofers in our area, we’re nonunion state but unfortunately the union folks are few and far in-between; so you don’t get that longevity in skilled trade. Most of the people doing roofs are doing it for 6 months or less. This crew has been together for 22 years. They showed up 5 minutes till 8 and they were finished my 4 and cleaned up totally by 5. There was hardly a nail that we found; they just cleaned up everything. They took some photographs of some damage on the back that we had suspected was there but we couldn’t get up to it. They had to change the plywood on it. We had a very good and satisfactory experience with them. Their price was competitive or maybe a little bit more, but it was worth every penny. We didn’t have to call them back at all and they were incredibly courteous. They seemed quite skilled and they had a supervisor on site all the time which was very unusual. They are right on top of my list. They are not into small jobs, they only do whole roof replacement jobs.

They did a great job, and we were very impressed. They arrived on time, and worked all day long. There was a supervisor onsite at all times. The crew was very professional and never stopped working, even when the supervisor left to go get more materials. They picked up all of the nails and debris. We appreciate this because we have grandchildren.

They get a slight "ding" for not having sent the roof repair report documenting the roof before; during and after repair along with photographs. I need this report to convince the Builder to refund my money. By the same token, I also understand how busy this company must be considering the damage hurricane Irene left in its wake. BUT I still need this report and have requested it twice already. One VM and one email. I expect a response soon and once again recommend this company to all Angie's list customers.
Description of Work: Consolidated Roofing was one of three vendors that actually inspected my roof for the cause of two rain water roof leaks into the interior of my house. The other two vendors were sent 1. by HOA 2. Builder. The first vendor nailed plastic over my holes. The second vendor was called and replaced the plastic w/shingles on the Friday (Aug. 23, 2011) that Irene was coming to Cary. That was the longest night of my life. When it became apparent that the Builder of my 3 1/2 year townhouse would not help me with my roof repairs; I hired Consolidated Roofing Systems which I found on Angie's list with an excellent rating. Mr. Van Starling, the Owner, came out personally to inspect the roof and provide me with an estimate. My roof was in very bad shape and had been since the beginning because of shoddy work during the initial construction process. They came out in full force (4 workers; plus the Owner and Son). The replaced my soffit, gutters, repaired my fascia and replaced my rotting sub-fascia and also replaced all bad shingles. Mr. Starling then spent at least 30 min. on my roof running water from a water hose to make sure that there were no more leaks. I give this company a TRIPLE A+ rating for responsiveness, explaining the problem and estimate; testing the quality of work afterwards and cleaning up after themselves. Punctual, dependable, honest and a pleasure to work with.

The first team was fine--on time, polite and seemed reasonable. Did check into something other than the roof (exhaust pipe) but it seemed fine. Said let us know if you have any more problems. The man that came the second time I did not meet but I believe he is the one I talked to on the phone--as I said he never gave his name. He began yelling at me before I even finished my explanation. I finally had to hang up on him as he was just getting angrier. I was perfectly happy with the first people I dealt with but I will not tolerate being yelled at simply for questioning a bill.
Description of Work: Company came out on July 1 because I had water coming in the ceiling of my bathroom--thought I had a roof leak because I first noticed it after a very heavy rainstorm.. They came on time, were very nice, checked the exhaust fan drain off the attic (where the air conditioner is located--they had to crawl behind it to see the fan pipe) and then the roof where they found shingles that had "all the grit off them". Replaced these. I actually asked them if there could be an air conditioning problem since I had just had the AC serviced in June and wondered if they had done anything to cause this and they said no. But water kept coming in and we kept having a lot of rain so I thought it was still the roof. Called them back and I believe the owner came back on July 12 (I wasn't there, my mother was). Evidently he looked around and said it was not the roof but the AC. Then he left a bill for $170 more. I got the AC company out, it was the AC so that is getting fixed. But I called Consolidated back to ask them about the bill--$170 seemed excessive to me when this was a call back for work I had already paid for. The man who answered, who did not identlfy himself got very angry when I explained the purpose of my call, began yelling at me that "this isn't Walmart or KMart" and that I had NO idea what it took to run a business. I tried to explain that I did not expect them to come out again for free but that I thought $170 was excessive to just tell me it wasn't their problem. He said that it was to cover 3 men (only 2 came), a truck and 2.5 hours of time! They weren't there 15 minutes! He said that was travel time from where they came from. I told him I wouldn't mind paying half of that but he just yelled at me to forget about it since I didn't know anything about the cost of business. Well I may not know that but I do know customer service and yelling at your customer is never a good thing. I will never use them again.

We did send a project manager and 2 men to her home. After checking the roof, we informed the member that her roof was not leaking. She paid us and we left. The member called back and said the roof was still leaking. We sent the same people back and the Project Manager stated that the roof was not the problem. At that point, the statement was made about the AC unit and could that be the problem. The crew went into the attic and it was indeed the AC drip pan overflowing. She was told such and a bill was left for a service call - only $170.00. This has been our rate for 20 years. Any time there is normally a service charge, a minimum of $170.00 plus material. The AC condensation problem has been a big problem this year because it has been so hot. A lot of times the drip pan gets clogged from the outlet and over fills. Had it been a roof problem, we would have charged zero. When the member called about the bill, she was told the reason for the bill and spoke to the same individual. He indeed did compare the rate to Kmart and WalMart. He has since been let go for such remarks to a homeowner. As for the yelling, I did not notice any yelling in his conversation with the homeowner(he has a naturally loud voice); but if she feels he did yell, I offer my sincere apology. As for the amount, I told him to tell her if she felt we were over charging her, just pay what she was comfortable with. At this point, we have received -0- from her. As for the amount being fair, take a look: $170.00 Service Call - 60.00 3 men 1 hr - $25-$20-$15/hr respectively - 46.75 Workman’s Comp @ 27.5% - 19.00 diesel fuel - 5.02 Insurance for vehicle ________ Balance $ 39.23 Not exactly an overcharge I do apologize for any wrong the member felt; but by no means did we overcharge her. I only wish she would look at the list after her or before her - on the list ALL “A” ratings. Never in all of our years on Angie’s List have we had anyone who we did work for grade our company this way. We, after all, did find her problem and it was non-roofing. This was her second call to us and her problem was plumbing.

Van Starling, his project manager and team were all extremely professional and took time to explain the process, warranty, recommendations, what was and was not included, and answered every question I had. The roof was in bad shape and needed many sheets of new plywood and installation of proper ventilation, but the job was completed in just one day with updates from the project manager. The roof is beautiful and is warranted for 30 years for materials and labor. I could not be happier. I could have gotten a roof for less, but certainly not as well done and without the warranty and peace of mind. The yard was completely clean, too. I didn't find one roofing nail! (As an added plus, the crew took down my Christmas lights for me!)
Description of Work: Two layers of shingles and roofing paper were removed, and 12 sheets of rotten plywood replaced. A ridge vent was added to accommodate the cathedral ceiling and improve ventilation. Waterproofing was added around the chimney, pipes, and vents. Fiberglass felt and energy-saving shingles were then put on and the house washed off and yard cleaned.

The member called our office and said she wanted an estimate on her roof for a repair. I asked her what problems she was having and she replied, "I have some shingles coming loose." I told her it would be so much per hour for 3 men plus any materials needed, whereby she said I want someone to come out and give me an estimate. At this point, I again explained, to replace loose or missing shingles, etc., it would be $85/hr for 3 men plus materials, whereby she said "Just forget it, I'll get someone else and hung up. On minor repairs, we always charge time and material and simply go fix the problem. We just are not set up to send someone around to give the same quote as I gave her on the phone. I'm sorry she wanted us to go out, but on minor repairs like she had, the cost is straight forward..time and material. She didn't like the quote and simply hung up. Most people appreciate the labor plus material quote and actually come out cheaper. This is why we give the homeowner the quote on the phone. They typically want the repair fixed and agree on the charge. It's ironic that someone we never met or did work for graded our company this way. As for being rude, we monitor all calls on repairs and the only rudeness was when she suddenly hung up. I'm sorry she feels that way but for 30+ years, our homeowner is the most important part of our company and rudeness is not tolerated.

Everything went very well. Everyone from the gentleman doing the estimate to the roofing crew arrived within 30min of times we were told and were proceeded by a phone call to let us know they were on their way. Roofing crew was very efficient--completed job in 1 day. Very happy with results--roof looks great with no leaks after several heavy rains. Crew cleaned up mess very well--were a few shingles left under back porch--but was no big deal. I would definately use this company again, I was very pleased from start to finish. (Updated, 6/18/10) The whole project went great from start to finish. Everyone from the gentleman who gave the estimate to the crew coming to replace the roof were there at the time they said they would be and called to let me know they were on the way. The roof looks great and we have been very happy with the job that was done. They stayed very close to the estimate given. The cost did go up slightly because they had to replace five sheets of plywood that were obviously damaged and that they could not have known about until the roof was torn off, and I was pre warned that this could be a possibility and was clearly told the additional cost if this was to occur. My only complaint if my previous post was that they left some shingles under the back porch, however when they returned to do the previously mentioned repair the foreman said they do this in case a shingle is damaged they will have an exact match already present to be able to do the repair, which I think is actually a great Idea.
Description of Work: Replaced roof, 5 new peices of plywood (Updated, 6/18/10) Replaced entire roof on house. This is an addition to a prior report I placed on this company before. The company is excellent and I would recommend them to anyone who needs roofing or additional work on their home. I am adding this additional report because I had a problem with the roof and they immediately (the same day I called) were there to fix it. I had a section of plywood start to come up along the edge of the back of the house, I called the company and they were there within 5 hrs of my call and had it fixed within ten minutes. It is very nice to see a company give a warranty and be willing to stand behind it!!!!

They were punctual and friendly, kept things very tidy. However, on the first day, due to lack of diligence with the tarps, our hallway and bedroom got rained on and as a result, a family antique was damaged. They took the damaged furniture to have it refinished (so it turned out looking nice) and they brought in a painter to fix the ceiling in the bedroom and hallway...but it was really annoying to have these added issues to deal with and the bedroom ceiling is still water damaged. Then, they told us that they'd need to put down new plywood all over the roof. They quoted us a price per sheet, but didn't explain how much the total cost would be. The plywood ended up costing $5,000!!!! We were presented with a bill that was $5,000 more than the estimate ($7,500), and expected to pay it immediately.

I am surprised to see this report coming on line so late. We did her roof 12/16/08. However, there are a few things the member left out of her report. As for the leak...it did not occur with the rain. It came after when we pulled the tarps off the roof. There was a pocket of water that was caught in a fold of the tarp; and when we pulled the tarp, the water ran in. We immediately got with the homeowner and took care of any problem. There was NO damage to the house; but we re-painted her entrance ceiling which was beadboard not drywall. The piece of furniture was an old chest that water dripped on and it spotted. When we took it to an antique dealer to re-finish, he said the spots were a long running of applying wax along with age. The furniture was NOT effected. He simply cleaned off the old wax and the furniture was fine. As for the bedroom ceiling...that was an old stain NOT from our work and the homeowner agreed. Had it been from our work we would have fixed it while our painter was there. As for the additional cost of the plywood to re-deck the house, I explained to the homeowners (both) when we first met how much it cost per sheet to replace the plywood. When we took the old roof off we found the house was originally built with an old slatboard deck for woodshake or tin. This left 2-3 “gaps between each board and the manufacturer does not want shingles put on a deck like this due to nailing pattern and not having a solid deck area. The homeowners were told exactly what the additional cost would be when we first took off the old roof which was two layers. Additional work above the original contract was 89 sheets of plywood (which we gave her at $15/sheet discount).Rebuilt 4 rafters over the back door (2 men 4 hours each) and installed $1,148.00 in new gutters which they wanted. We did not create the problem. We solved the problem. Many roofers would have just covered up the roof and taken their money and left. First, that is a bad moral way to work and second as a member of CertainTeeds Roofer Advisory Council, we are only going to do the work one way....THE RIGHT WAY. When we left in December of 08 at the completion of the work, the homeowners were very happy.

The only complaint is that the estimate was for $7500 and the total was $3000 more. There was an extra layer of roof that needed removing and they said there could be plywood that needed replacing. Those added to cost, but I was not advised or warned that my total would be so much higher. Supervisor did call saying there would be additional work necessary, but did not make clear how much more expensive this would be. If not for the steep increase in price, I would give them an A. Future customers should be made more aware of how much costs can increase.
Description of Work: Roof was beginning to leake and needed replacing. Had gotten several estimates, but Consolidated Roofing walked us through the process and described in detail the work they would do and how they will stand behind it. Sales rep was extremely responsive without being pushy. Once work was scheduled, it started on time and was completed in 2 days (rain caused a slight delay). They cleaned up without leaving a trace behind and the roof looks great.

We are in receipt of the member's remarks and somewhat surprised. The original contract was for $7,752.00 1. Per the contract which he signed it states 2nd layer $30/sq $1,072.00 2. Per the contract we replaced 18 sheets of rotten plywood and hauled it to the landfill 900.00 3. The homeowner added a garage to the original contract. $1,050.00 TOTAL $3,022.00 As you see, we didn't change the contract, we just corrected the problems. 2nd layer of roofing, 18 sheets of plywood and re-roofed the garage that was added on.

We are happy with the work. After they finished the work, we found that there was a leak and we got it repaired from somebody else. It is not their fault. We did not call them. They also changed few things on the roof.
Description of Work: TI used them to do roofing in my house last year. They also put sky proof on the roof.

The weather slowed them down just slightly but they did a quick and efficient job only taking about 3 to 4 days including a day off due to rain.
Description of Work: Had my 20 year old roof reshingled plus 10 sheets of plywood were replaced. The job was very professionally done and the removed a old ceiling fan and installed ridge venting to take it's place. The did an exceptional job and cleaned up all along as they worked. I had 5 estimates done prior to selecting them. The were not the cheapest, but I've not always had good results in the past going with the cheapest. I usually like to select one of the middle priced estimates. One thing I liked is there interview process beforehand that really makes an effort for them to understand what you want as the genuinely want to be sure you are satisfied.

Overall good experience-prompt and professional. Orginally would not come out to give estimate but luckily I had someone estimate it first so I knew what the problem was. Even with the visit the job ended up over quoted price because of boot replacements and additional wood required. They did forget to realign my dish so that involved a service call from dish people

Response from Consolidated Roofing Systems, Inc.
We went out and did the repairs and the homeowner was happy. We are NOT the TV dish people, nor are we qualified to re-align the dish. When we left there were no problems and we gave her a 10 year warranty on our work. No one else would do that. You can always buy cheap but then you will always have headaches.

Excellent. Quote was complete and very professional. Van came out later with three packages of samples to help me make final color selections. Job took 1 1/2 days to complete. Crew arrived on time first day and completed roof on house. Cleaned up the property completely. On second day they competed the garage, installed soffit vents and completed final items. Nails and trash were cleaned up and hauled away. Very professional job!
Description of Work: Replaced the roof on both my 2600 SQ FT 2 story house and detached garage. Removed existing shingles and paper. Replaced one sheet of plywood that had rotted, and 2 sheets for exhaust fans that were removed. Installed dimensional shingles and ridge vent. Installed soffit vents and covered the gable vents. Cleaned up very well and did no damage to my plants.
