They were excellent. They did exactly what they said they would, showed up when they said they would, and finished when they said. They cleaned up everyday and it was a good experience. We had one issue since their installation and they came out and fixed it very quickly.

Van Sterling came over with an estimate, which was fairly priced for the work needed. He was extremely professional - on time for the appointment, and brought lots of literature that clearly explained everything. We ended up deciding not to have the roof replaced due to other issues, not because of the estimate. Can't comment on their work, but both their responsiveness to our request for an estimate and their presentation were top notch.

CRS, Mr. Van Starling, provided a comprehensive estimate for the replacement of an A frame roofing system and a badly deteriorated flat roof, over the addition to the home, which had been addressed many times over the years, but continued to fail and leak despite many different solutions to fix the problem. Mr. Starling thoroughly explained his proposed solution to the problems with the flat roof and the proposed materials and their benefits that he was recommending. His recommendations took into account budgetary constraints, yet provided for a durable & cohesive roofing system that would have greatly improved the function & appearance of the home. Unfortunately, the family chose to use to another vendor. I would recommend discussing your roofing needs with CRS.

Wonderful. They protected the plantings around the house and cleaned up very well. They hand nailed and drew lines up the side to make certain the spacing was correct. Did not remove the roof over the garage so it stayed protected until the second day when the job could be completed.

Sales rep, Tommy, was thoroughly entertaining while he explained the "basics" of roofing and the options available through CRC. He was very informative and confidant in their products and even suggested some tips on getting other proposals. I shouldn't have wasted my time with the "others", which were considerably less informative, more "pushy", and not really any less expensive (one of the "big name" competitors was actually a substantial amount higher). The install process went extremely smoothly; the crew was on-time, very polite, and very efficient. The install supervisor kept me informed every step of the way and fixed some minor problems related to some hidden wood rot and documented everything with pictures (I wonder whether the competitors would have simply covered it up and left it to worsen???) I expected to find pieces of shingles or nails around my house or in the landscaping but there was not one single scrap and absolutely no evidence of them being there except for the great looking new roof! During the follow up visit to make sure I was completely happy with their roofing services, Van and Tommy mentioned that CRS also does attic insulation. After another educational description of the process, I accepted their very reasonable proposal and 2 days later the attic was insulated with no problems and absolutely no mess!!! A few months have gone by and I'm extremely happy with both the new roof and the attic insulation! The house is noticeably quieter (no more pitter patter of squirrel feet!) and I have already enjoyed a reduction in the heating/cooling costs since the HVAC system doesn't need to run as hard to keep the inside temp constant. Many thanks to everyone at CRS for making this a pleasant home improvement project!
Description of Work: Thinking it was going to be a messy (and expensive!) hassle, I had been delaying getting a new roof. CRS made the entire process very easy and even enjoyable and I also ended up having them insulate the attic.

The sales representative, Van, came for our appt. He was here at the time we agreed upon. We talked, he took measurements and answered my questions and listened to my concerns. I was concerned about damage to my Leaf Guard gutters, shrubbery and 35 year old Japanese Maple. He assured me there would be no damage done. We made an appt. for him to provide an estimate and show us the product. He returned at the appointed time and showed us the products they would use, described the work to be done and duration. He gave us his estimate, which included an Angie's List discount of which I was unaware. His estimate was not the least expensive we received but we felt he carried a superior product and had the training and resources to do the job properly the first time. We agreed to have his company reroof our buildings. The delivery truck with pallets of shingles and all other roofing materials arrived at 6:45 AM (even the delivery man knew about the maple and not to damage it) The work crew and their supervisor, Steve, arrived at 7:45 AM. All workmen have attended the Certainteed "school" on The job supervisor was dedicated to my job and was on site except for about 30 min. when it was necessary to make a run for some wood for repairs. The roofing crew were on my roof at 8 AM removing the old materials. They draped huge tarps and put "dams" on the roof edges to prevent old shingles and material from falling and damaging our shrubbery. They worked solidly, stopping only a few minutes for lunch on site before continuing. They finished re shingling the main upper roof and front porch roof by 5 PM, cleaned up all debris and trash and left for the day, hauling that days debris with them. They were back at 7:45 AM the following day and immediately went to work stripping the garage, back porch and playhouse roofs simultaneously. They stopped for a short, < 30 min. lunch on site and went back to work, finishing the entire job about 4 PM. They conducted a thorough cleanup and swept for nails. The supervisor went on all roof surfaces with a hose to wet down and inspect the finished job. When he was satisfied, we were invited out to look. Soon after he presented the invoice which included additional charges for carpentry (removing and replacing wood) and the cost of the replacement wood. He gave us the warranty and explained it thoroughly. Both Consolidated Roofing and Certainteed each offer their own. The Certainteed is transferrable to a new owner. Finally Steve mentioned damage to the roof as in storms, hurricanes or tree damage. He stated that should we have any occurrence that compromised our roof, to call Consolidated and they would send a team to put protective tarps over the damaged area until repairs could be made. They said what they would do and did what they said. They are a super group to work with. Although it cost a little more than another estimate, I feel that we truly did get what we paid for.
Description of Work: Shingles, tar paper and nails were removed from the main house, free standing garage and playhouse. All damaged wood was replaced. Power attic ventilators were installed on house and garage. Nylon reinforced synthetic was placed on all roof in lieu of tarpaper. Special ice and waterproof synthetic material was placed on two lower porch roofs with less pitch. New boot on vent pipes. Special water proof material around chimney, power vents and vent pipes. Lifetime (50 years) Certainteed Architectural shingles with transferable warranty were installed on all roof surfaces. A ridge vent was put on playhouse.

They came and did the entire job in one day. They left the property in perfect condition.
Description of Work: We needed to replace a 21 year old roof. We got several estimates from respected roofing companies, but liked the products used by this company. They were slightly more expensive than comparable roofing contractors, but we felt it was worth the difference. They removed everything down to the plywood. Three pieces of plywood had to be replaced due to water damage, but that was no surprise to us. They put a barrier called Titanium directly over the plywood-- something the other companies do not use (although they use respected products in its place.) Ridge caps were added at the peaks to improve ventilation. The shingles are high quality with a nice warranty as well.

They did an excellent job. Van Starling was the only contractor that followed up with me and he did it from start to finish. Was not present for the work. I am impressed with the finished product. Cleanup was as if they were never here. No ruts in the yard. Foreman Bob was very professional. Came from Clayton on Saturday to finish the deal.
Description of Work: Roof shingles, vents, chimney flashing replaced.
I got a quote from them about 2 years ago. They made a wonderful presentation and we had decided to go with them. Very honestly, they said that we didn't really need to replace the roof for a couple more years. So two years later, I called them and we signed the deal. They arrived on time and completed the entire job in two days. Highly professional. The crew was very experienced, friendly, and answered all our questions. They did a great job replacing the roof with lifetime shingles, waterproofing the chimney, replacing boards that had been water damaged, cleaning up all around, re-mounting and positioning the satellite dish, cleaning out all of the gutters, and even power washing most of the house. It could not have gone more smoothly. And we are very happy with the result.
Description of Work: They put on new roof on our 19 year old house. They also waterproofed our chimney, which has always leaked.

As part of a larger project to replace the tiles on the roof of our home we contracted with Van Sterling the owner of Consolidated Roofing Systems to replace two skylights. We requested the brand Velux which we understood would need to be made to order because the openings in the roof were smaller than standard sizes. The skylights were installed and immediately had problems with dripping condensation. We complained to the company to discover that they had installed the incorrect skylight. We asked for the site manager to come to our house to discuss what we wanted. Mr. Van Starling, the owner, refused to let the manager do this ? saying the problem was solved. They knew which skylight was needed for the replacements. The new skylights did not leak but we noticed that they did not fit the opening properly. On further investigation we discovered that the company had installed skylights from a different manufacturer than the one we had requested. The consequence is that they restrict the possible light entering the skylight and do not look good. We contacted Mr. Starling to tell him the skylights were too small. He sent a crew out with the information that they had been improperly installed. At this point the manager was able to see the skylights and agreed they were too small and they were not made by Velux. When no action followed this inspection, my wife phoned Van Starling to persuade him to inspect the skylights for himself. Van Starling came to the house and attempted to insist that the skylights were the correct fit and of good quality. My wife insisted that they were not what we ordered and were an incorrect size. Van was abusive. He argued with her, raising his voice and saying he had installed these skylights in million dollar homes. When she pointed out that he was shouting at her, his response was that she should hear him when he really gets going. He claimed that Velux did not make skylights of this size even though my wife told him that we knew that they did. Eventually he changed his tone and said he wanted us to be satisfied with the work. When he left my wife was under the impression that he had agreed to make good on the work with new Velux skylights if they were available. We subsequently contacted Velux to ask them to confirm that they could make the skylights. We measured the size of the two roof openings, and discovered that the measurements given us by Mr. Starling were incorrect. We sent this information in a letter to him with our request that he fulfill his contract by replacing the skylights his company had installed with Velux skylights of the correct size. In a follow up phone call my wife was told that they were checking into the Velux windows and would clean up the internal trim around the window. However, we received a letter from Mr. Starling saying that the skylights were satisfactory as installed and offering to send out a carpenter to adjust the trim around the skylights. At this point in our dispute which has been running for several months we decided to submit this review to Angie?s List. Re

Response from Consolidated Roofing Systems, Inc.
As with any story, there are 2 sides. First, we installed 2 skylights custom made and they will not drip condensation. They are double layer glass with a condensation channel inside the skylight. When we were notified about the skylights, I personally went to their home and discussed the skylights and the installation. I explained that Velux did not make a skylight that small. So I made the decision to replace the skylights with another more expensive brand at no additional cost. The skylight has maybe a ½" plus/minus overhang on the opening. I told her if she wished, we would take down her old trim which was for the same purpose and trim out the skylight opening. I again explained to Mrs. (member name removed) that Velux DID NOT make a custom skylight to fit her opening. When she would not accept that, she informed me that she contacted Velux and they said they did. We contacted the Velux service technician and the Velux company. They both said they did not make a skylight that size. When I told her this, she wanted our crew to come out and check the skylights. We did. They were good. Again she called insisting that Velux would make the skylights. At this point, I told Mrs. (member name removed)that we would put in new skylights but her husband must measure the opening of the skylight. We would put them in at NO CHARGE and trim them out if needed. When the skylights came in, they were the wrong size. Mr. (member name removed) had measured the ceiling opening not the skylight opening. With this Mrs. (member name removed) was very upset with her husband. We told her we would reorder the skylights, but she would have to pay for the 2 measured incorrectly which were close to $1,000.00. She refused and said she would get back to us. Now a year later, not one word from Mrs. (member name removed) and you get this report. I still have the 2 skylights sitting in a box. I have photos of the old original skylight and the awful trim that covered the old skylight frames. As for shouting at Mrs. (member name removed), I told her then, if I raised my voice, I apologized. I have never been accused of being abusive to anyone much less a woman. I am sorry but everything in timing of events and actual events are completely bogus. We documented each service call, each phone call, and any correspondence by mail or e-mail. Our business has been stellar for 35 years with thousands of happy homeowner and Angie’s List members. We have been a Super Service Award winner with Angie’s List for years, because we make every effort to make each homeowner happy with a good job. We will be glad to bring a factory authorized service man to the (member name removed) home. I guarantee he will tell them the skylights are installed properly and the only thing they need is a small wood trim around the inside opening. Again, I await their reply.

I met with an experienced estimator, and he certainly knew his stuff! The quote was accurate....they did a little repair work on a few spots to the underlaying wood and though it was more than the other estimate, I was impressed with the estimator's obvious expertise. The job was booked in short period, and the promised number of workers and on site supervisor appeared and worked quickly to complete the job in two days. My concern for my bushes and plants was considered with care, and the area was protected throughout the job. They kept the job site immaculate, worked steadily even when the supervisor left for brief periods, and didn't even play music, let alone make unnecessary noise. No money was requested until I said I was satisfied with the job. It was a great experience with a very professional group....salesman through the workers who installed the roof!
Description of Work: Best crew I ever experienced. They were quick, competent, QUIET, and respectful of my plantings and property. The entire company was a pleasure to deal with, a supervisor was on site most of the time, and any questions were answered immediately, and to my complete satisfaction. Since my house sat at the top of the first hill in our small neighborhood, several neighbors were able to watch the installation, commented on the professionalism of the installation crew, and booked roofs over the next months. Very happy I used them, and I think the pretty roof helped me sell the house in a short time.
