Although I have an electrical engineering degree and have fixed dryers before, there wasn't enough time to deal with the dryer at the moment, and so I reluctantly called a repairman. He showed on up time, and spent about 15 minutes looking at it before declaring that the start button was bad and I should just replace the entire dryer. This didn't sound right, so I asked him to call back the next day with an estimate for repair just in case. I then looked up the switch on the internet and despite what he told me found that the switch was $10!When I didn't hear from him after two days, I took apart the dryer and tested the switch myself, and it was working perfectly. In fact, based on the way the top of the dryer was aligned, I suspect he hadn't actually tested the switch. Too bad, since that would have been easy to fix, and it had only taken me 10 minutes to pull the switch and get the product codes. So, not only was the part cheap, it would have been an easy fix. Too bad he didn't actually diagnose the actual problem. The repairman eventually called back a week later, only now his story was the motor was bad and I should buy a new dryer. No mention of the start switch at all, and he hadn't taken apart the dryer to even test the motor! The repairman was either grossly incompetent or the entire thing is a scam and they don't actually try and fix your appliance.UpdateReturnReport Status: Active
Description of Work: The repairman came to my house and inspected my non-functional dryer, promising to send a repair estimate the next day. A week later he called, changing his story as to the nature of the problem, and refusing to give an estimate.
