Description of Work: Carolina Air is/was the designated service provider via HSA home warranty. Carolina Air was contacted on April 20, 2015 for HVAC repairs at the home I've just purchased. Upon their first visit it was determined that I needed a new HVAC system for the upstairs. Since then I have been blown off and given excuses by Carolina Air. My HVAC system was finally replaced on June 15, 2015. Since the I have had to contact Carolina Air multiple times because the brand new system keeps tripping and shutting down. I've worked with Carolina Air a total of 5 times for this HVAC system. Avoid this company at all costs.

Response from Carolina Air Inc
Good morning Mrs.[Member name removed], Sorry for such a late response and thank you for the feedback. I have looked into this and apologize for the time it had taken for your replacement. However , your warranty company was in debate of replacing the system which caused a lot of hesitation on equipment ordering. Unfortunately our policy through your warranty company at the time was to wait until we receive authorization for any repairs needing to be made. Now that your system was replaced by our company directly you will no longer need to go through a warranty company in the future. You will deal with us directly and get an immediate response. Please feel free to contact our office anytime with questions , comments, or any concerns you may have. We hope to gain your trust back in the near future. Best Regards, Jenna

We purchased a home (14 years old) that had an original a/c unit serving the upper floor and a newer unit serving the downstairs. The day of the closing, we noticed the upper floor seemed a little warm. The following day, it was even more warm, so we realized there was a problem. We had a home warranty and they sent out Carolina Air. Roger P. was our technician and he immediately found a leak in the coils in the attic. He then found another leak outside in the condenser unit and he also noted there was NO freon in the unit at all. A likely scenario is that the previous owners had the system topped off with freon prior to the inspection so as not to alert to a leak, but by the time we moved in, the freon had all leaked out. Our dilemma was whether we should repair the system (a band-aid fix until who-knows-when the system would eventually give way) or replace the entire unit. A repair meant new coils (covered by the home warranty, but the fittings that connect the coils to the adjacent parts of the unit would be $250 (our cost)). The condenser would have to be patched and then the system refilled with freon ($320 after home warranty allowance). So we were looking at $570 to patch a 14 year-old unit that we would likely have to replace down the road (as Roger mentioned these systems lasted about 15-20 years). It didn't make sense to spend so much money on a patch job if we would eventually have to replace the system, so we decided to go ahead and replace the entire unit that serviced the upper floor. Since the unit didn't just quit working on us, the home warranty was not going to just replace the entire system, so they ended up giving us an allowance of $800. Carolina Air told us the new (2-ton) unit would cost $5200 (including the furnace), less the $800 home warranty allowance=$4400. Roger requested approval from Gary (the owner of Carolina Air) to waive the $75 service charge that we were supposed to pay that day as part of our home warranty agreement. Gary was very kind and did waive this. The only reason I gave a B rating on the price was because we had previously gotten a verbal quote for a 2.5-ton HVAC system for $4600, so $5200 was a little high in comparison (though I don't know the brand or details of the other system). That being said, after we made the decision to go with a new system, Roger got the OK from Gary to put a temporary patch on the condenser unit (could not do anything about the leak in the coils) and fill it up with a little freon so that we could get through to the installation date without boiling upstairs. That was unexpected, but a very pleasant surprise! Jesus and Carlos came out a week later (sooner than expected!) and installed the new system. About a week later, Gary himself came out to inspect the installation and ensure everything was to code. Despite what was a most unexpected and unpleasant "surprise" left for us when we bought this house, I will say that Carolina Air turned the experience around and made it as best as it could be, given the situation. No one ever wants to be faced with taking the plunge on an expensive home purchase, but Carolina Air had such excellent customer service that we really felt much better about the purchase in the end. Not only that, but we had full confidence in the work that was done, so we didn't feel like we were being taken for a ride. Gary has a terrific crew of technicians, from Roger to Jesus and Carlos and everyone was extremely respectful, polite and upstanding. We were so pleased that we are now looking into having them service our HVAC system (both units for the entire house) on a regular, twice-yearly basis. I normally don't think very much about the service folks that come out to do work, but this crew really stood out in the best way possible. Many thanks, Carolina Air.
Description of Work: Carolina Air inspected our a/c system after it stopped cooling the upper floor of our home. They discovered 2 leaks and we thus chose for them to replace the entire system. They came out a week later to do this installation.

We were in need of a new hvac system and sought bids. A representative from Carolina Air in Carthage came to our home and spoke to us on their HVAC products and service. He was very polite, knowledgeable and patience in answering our questions. After weight our options and the 3 bids we received we selected another company.

Carolina Air came highly recommended, and we were visited by Sean, who described in detail what we would need, the process involved, and what results we should expect. Sean mentioned right up front that we would probably be able to find a cheaper contractor, but his professionalism and degree of detail convinced us that we would probably not find a better contractor. The installation was completed on time, and exceeded our expectations. Sean also completed paperwork for the local energy company rebate. Thanks again!!

We are extremely satisfied with the service provided by Carolina Air owner, Gary Bullard, and his awesome crew. They 'all' were concerned about the problem we were faced with by not having air during that 100 degree August day in 2011. Gary and all his employees are professional and very knowledgeable of the current heating and air technology on the market. We are extremely pleased with our customer service and our new unit since it works accurately in our home. My husband and I would highly recommend this company to you for your next heating and air service. Carolina Air deserves a grade of A++ and we will definitely use them for repeated service in the future. Larry & Cathy Beck 103 Deer Trail Lane Carthage, NC 28327
Description of Work: Our heating and air unit was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm during August 2011. The following day it was 100 degrees while my husband and I both worked at our public jobs that day. Once we arrived at home, it was >95 degrees in our house and we were shocked because it was cool that morning. Our house is insulated really well so it stays cool and warm well during each season. Once discovered, my husband called Gary Bullard with Carolina Air in Carthage, NC. He sent an accessment crew out to our home to evaluate the damage. After they determined that it was a unit totally damaged by lightning, they contacted Gary and he came immediately to our home. Once he arrived, the entire crew performed an analysis of our home's square footage and checked out the duct work to determine the size of the unit that should be installed. Gary reviewed on paper their assessment and the cost it was going to install a new unit. He went over all the details with my husband before he signed the contract for the installation of new heating and air unit. Gary assured my husband that he would take care of us and he had his office bring a mobile unit to install in our bedroom area so it wouldn't be so hot that night so we could sleep. Remember, it was a 100 degrees that day and it was still in the 80's that night. Due to the mobile until being installed, we were able to sleep comfortably that night. The next day, the Carolina Air crew installed the new unit and made appropriate adjustments to the duct work and the electronic thermostat. The unit they installed stabilizes the humidity in the house air which is an awesome breathing environment if you have allergies or dry skin. It also helps you breathe better while sleeping. It also keeps the house at an even temperature so it remains comfortable throughout the entire house. The quality is superb!!
