Hugo and his guys are fantastic. They are very easy to work with, do a great job and are reasonably priced. We are remodeling a mother-in-law suite and Bautista Bros installed about 200 sq ft of roll vinyl that we purchased from them, as well as removing the existing door and installing one we bought at Lowe's as well as putting in a garage door opener that we also bought at Lowe's. Then a new 14x28' deck was built and its beautiful. We couldn't be happier. We've gotten other quotes for future jobs but haven't completed them yet.

Number one problem was being able to get in touch with Mr. Bautista other than through email which had many delays. The assistant did a sloppy job on the ceiling drywall repairs so they had to come out to be redone and I was charged extra for that. Lastly, I pretty much had to chase them down to be able to finalize job and payment. The constant excuse was apparently too busy and thus the job was always rushed. Missed opportunity for future business not only with myself but referral to others in my neighborhood and others. I am interior designer looking for a construction business to use for future clients and was not impress to use them again. The work quality was pretty decent but customer service not the best.
Description of Work: Rail replacement on front porch, leveling of countertop behind stove (a separate piece from the rest of counter area that was not installed properly initially by original installer), plus caulking, bonus room ceiling tape replacement and patch. No painting involved.

During a major rain, we suddenly had major problem with water leaking into house causing damage to exterior and interior walls. Mr. Bautista was able to fit me in on an emergency basis. I was very pleased with the promptness of his response to my query and with the quality of the work provided. The project included gutter repair, carpentry, insulation, and painting. He showed me the issues he was dealing with at each stage of the project, and I was very pleased that the work was completed in two days and careful cleanup followed. I will definitely use this provider again.
Description of Work: Identified source of external water leakage and repaired damage to house including removing siding, removing and replacing damaged insulation, studs, & boards. There was major external repair and minor repair and repainting of interior drywall.

It went very smoothly--professional and efficient. The crew arrived a little later than scheduled but finished by 3:45. The repairs fixed the problem at the source and now the ceiling looks like new. I plan to use his services again for other home repairs.

Hugo and his associate were prompt, professional and courteous. Communication was primarily through texting - which worked very well indeed. Jobs were done quickly and well. I especially appreciated the safety precautions they took while cleaning out the gutters. An azalea was in the way of the new hand rail. They voluntarily relocated it to another spot. I am very pleased with their work!

The front stoop to my house has 6 or 7 brick steps leading up to it and wooden railings on either side. On one side the railing continues for the length of the top of the stoop, an exterior wall is on the other side of the top of the stoop. The wood railings were rotting in spots - in some places very badly. The components of the original railings were not all pressure treated. Also one side was always loose at the base where it was anchored to the brick. Hugo's team removed the railings and built and installed new ones. The new ones are all pressure treated. The new masonry anchors are much more substantial. It is clear that the new railings are stronger in design and should also last longer since they are all pressure treated. Hugo's team completed the job in a few hours. They removed all of the old pieces and cleaned the stoop. They also returned the potted plants onto the steps were they were prior to construction. Hugo was pleasant to speak with. I plan on hiring him for other jobs in the near future.
Description of Work: Replaced the wooden railings on front stoop.

I'm not sure why this company is called Bautista "Brothers", since Hugo (owner) and his family do much of the work. I didn't meet any "Brothers", but I did meet a lot of family... and they were all terrific. When I unexpectedly found the property to be in need of extensive repairs, my biggest concerns were whether I could I find someone available to start the job quickly and complete it on a tight schedule. When I met with Hugo to have him quote the job, he was very up-front about his availability (limited for the next 2 weeks), but promised to work me in and complete the job on a 3 week timeline. His price was competitive (I bid 3 contractors and he was in the middle on price but offered the best schedule) and previous reviews here on Angie's List gave me some additional confidence that he would deliver as promised on quality and schedule. At start time on day 1 I got a call from Hugo. He was still picking up supplies and would be over shortly. When was the last time a contractor called you to say they'd be 15 minutes late? I was impressed. Hugo kept to his promise on schedule, completing the job with an all-hands push at the end of week 3. We met a few surprises along the way (wasn't expecting to have to replace 4 skylights and the sliding glass door.), but we managed to keep the schedule and the quality of the work was very good. The finished project invoice matched the quote, with a few exceptions for the unexpected surprises we found along the way. I was satisfied with the price, schedule and quality and thought the additional costs to handle the extra unexpected work were fair and consistent with the prices already quoted. Writing this review about 6 weeks after the project was completed, I feel that the work was handled professionally and as a customer I was dealt with honestly. The total project cost was well over $10,000 when you include materials that I picked up myself for the contractor to install. I would recommend Bautista " Family" Builders and plan to work with them in the future when this property needs repairs I can't handle myself.
Description of Work: Our rental property needed a major face lift. Our last renters caused a bunch of damage and other things were in need of repair due to age and the elements. The place was repainted from top to bottom, two exterior doors were replaced (one sliding door replaced with French doors), new flooring in the kitchen and master bath, replaced 4 skylights, replaced and tiled a damaged tub surround, refinished kitchen and bath cabinets..... and more.

Hugo and his crew are kind, efficient, and very hard working! I've used Bautista Bros for numerous jobs over the years like hanging a new front door, cleaning the gutters, and repairing my bathroom floor. The recent job, however, of removing my old vinyl siding to show the original wood siding underneath was a huge undertaking and they did an amazing job! Hugo was great about communicating and scheduling. The job was done over the weekend and I was amazed at how much they were able to get done! The new paint job is fantastic and it's nice to see the house restored to its former glory. Will absolutely continue using these guys for more jobs in the future. They're my go-to guys for all repairs!

Everything went great. Mr. Hugo Bautista and his assistants are very experienced, and they knew exactly what they were doing. They knew totally what the right way was to construct the building for longevity and sturdiness. They built it just like he would have constructed his own home. The site was clean and neat when he left us with a completed building. We have total confidence in Hugo. The variety of items that he and his workers have done for us is very long and varied. From converting two thirds of a large garage into a studio for my wife that was completely wired and finished....including two sliding doors and a triple window and a concrete floor for the entire structure and installation of a wood parquet floor. He totally renovated our bathroom providing the wiring, plumbing, installing a new vanity, toilet and shower. An exhaust fan was installed which included the wiring and running the exhaust pipe through the attic above and out the roof. I have reviewed some of the items that he has done in the past. The list is so very extensive that I am amazed every time I start reviewing all the work. We have total trust in Hugo. All the work on the bath was done while my wife and I were on vacation. He had total access to our home, and we absolutely gave it no thought. He and his wife (who provides cleaning services for our home) have one of our house keys and permission to use it as needed.
Description of Work: Constructed a wooden, 10x12 lawn barn with a very sturdy wooden floor. The building included shingles and a large storage attic area covering about a third of the area.. The building was constructed on an incline so the whole structure was leveled using cinder blocks. A large ramp was built for the front double doors to carry a large lawn tractor.

Good points: they were punctual. Bad points: they left trash in the yard that I had to pick up; the ceiling in the room that his crew painted has bled through stains that he failed to correct even after I pointed them out; they were rushed the entire time; they took shortcuts and did not paint under the outlet covers and I had to ask them to go back since I had bought all new covers and the old paint showed and still they failed to paint under all of them so I had to go back and paint it myself; a piece of furniture that Mr. Bautista worked on still has a sticking door and now needs to be stained because he took off so much wood with his planer; a member of his crew parked on the grass two of the three days they were here when I asked them not to park there; it took three people to install the ceiling fan after much trouble and they had almost given up on it and told me that I would have to take the fan back after it was in pieces; Mr. Bautista was in a rush the entire time which led to mistakes and trash left in my yard; it was obvious that Mr. Bautista was not interested in working on my house; it is difficult to contact Mr. Bautista by telephone because he never picks up; and there were gobs of white mud or spackling dropped on closets doors. The mud was removed but not painted over even though he was using the same color paint. Mr. Bautista later mentioned his rich clients and I later realized that was the reason for his apathy on my job. Mr. Bautista seemed more interested in his rich clients. I paid him in full the same day he completed his work. But he refused to correct the problems I pointed out with the ceiling paint. Please view the photos attached. More bad points: Mr. Bautista borrowed my sander to work on my furniture and he installed the sand paper incorrectly. I have to buy a new plate on the bottom of the sander. The door he worked on still sticks so I will have to work on it myself and then stain it. After his use of his electric planer, I lost confidence in his work, became worried about my furniture and objected to the bad smell coming from the planer. I told Mr. Bautista about the trash in the yard but he did not come back to get it. I found another piece of trash this week. Later, I found out that Mr. Bautista is very successful and has a lot of "rich clients" and wants to keep his reputation and will not work on my house because I thought his workers had inadvertently taken my rubber hammer. Because I had to paint after him, I had to get out the paint, and couldn?t find my hammer to close the paint can. I had a lot of my own painting tools out in the same room his workers were in and thought they had inadvertently picked it up. I later found it and apologized before he ever read the first email because I wrote the email late at night. I sent the second email before he would have received the first one but he used that excuse to say that he would not work on my house again as previously promised although I do not want him back. Since he thinks that I am not a rich client as he mentioned them, he did not seem to care much about me. Perhaps that explains for the substandard rushed work. He told me about how successful he was this year and last. He also told me that although he had a $30,000 construction license, he gets around it by separating jobs into smaller jobs and can make considerably more than $30,000 on a job. His brother was building a house. I consider that unethical and greedy. There are more than 3 workers on his crews as it states on the description of his business.
Description of Work: Paint touch ups in the living room, install a new ceiling fan, paint a nearly empty room, and minor work on a new sideboard furniture piece needed to be done.

Hugo and Adrian were very skilled, knowledgable, and pleasant to work with. I had a couple of 1900 windows which were allowing water to get in. Hugo replaced the rotted sill, matching the historic design, and created a drip cap above the window to prevent future water from getting in. He created the new piece above the window and made it slope slightly, which was his idea and advanced handiwork. When we took off the window trim and saw the rot was just a bit further and another piece to replace, he did not charge me for the extra step, and was also willing to wait while I ran to pick up metal flashing. He was flexible to do things the way I wanted, but also knowledgable enough to suggest a better way. I believe the window was taken with care and we will not have leaking issues going forward. He also built a ramp for us the same day, and built it to our design, but added extra supports. He brought all of the necessary tools with him, even a router bit that matched the design on the railing. He is good at communicating and will ask if an issue comes up so I would have the opportunity to decide. I appreciated that he showed up on time, and that the two of them finished all of the work in one day. He worked efficiently and decidedly but also with attention to detail when it was needed. He also took the lumber scraps with him and left us a clean site. Also, he is professional, helpful, and polite.

Bautista Builders might be more successful if they produced a sheet informing the potential customer exactly what they are prepared to do, i.e. obtain the building permit, submit engineering and plans, purchase materials on their own, have materials delivered, insurance, bonding, etc.
Description of Work: Rogelio and Hugo Bautista of Bautista Bros. Builders, Inc. frame houses. They were both framing $400K houses in our neighborhood. Hugo had a crew and Rogelio had a crew and they worked separately on the two houses. I was looking for a framer to add a screened porch over an existing 12 x 30 deck. I asked Rogelio to come over to look at it. He did so and I found him very professional to work with. From the homes he and his brother built from scratch, I know they know house construction. I did not choose to go with Bautista because I did not understand whether they would obtain the permit, submit engineering and drawings, purchase the materials and do the work. Perhaps Rogelio thought I might purchase the materials, get the permit and merely hire him as "work for hire". When I was anxious to get the job started, Rogelio informed me he had to go to Texas for 8 days and would call me when he returned. He called me today not an hour after I gave the job to someone else.

After contacting Bautista Bros., Hugo came out and we discussed the work that needed to be done and agreed on a tentative date to begin. I have never seen anyone work as hard and as consistently as these men. The work done on the roof (at a previous time) was a very big job and they worked from around 8 until it got too dark out and they finished the job. Bautista Bros. are very versatile and do excellent work for a fair price. While pulling out the washer to install the flooring Hugo noticed that the plumbing fixtures were rotted and leaking, something I had not known. He readily offered to take care of the problem and as usual did a great job. Whenever I have anything at all that needs work I will always call Bautista Bros. first. Hugo has said that he cannot always do more advanced work in some areas but so far there has been nothing he has not been able to repair. His work is high quality and I would recommend him to any one. And, he is a nice guy.
Description of Work: I had a variety of work that needed to be done and Hugo and his crew were able to take care of everything including; installed vinyl flooring, painted the living room ceiling, repaired 2 large sections of fence where a tree had fallen, repaired the roof where a falling limb had left a large hole, repaired the entire length of the roof which had been rotted out, painted parts of the exterior, fixed the chimney and painted the area, replaced the plumbing behind the washer. This review includes a previous job that was completed.

This work was done at two homes located in Chapel Hill and Durham. The amount that we spent indicated above is just the amount we spent for the large trailer load of furniture that was moved from Durham to Chapel Hill this week. with it being loaded, unloaded , positioned and the re-installation of the washer and dryer.
Description of Work: We could not be happier with the services that Mr. Hugo Bautista, David and his other employees have provided for us. There is very little about a home and lawn that Hugo can not handle with the possible exception of building one from scratch. We started using Hugo In the summer of 2010 starting in approximately July. We were referred to him by a good friend that had been using his services for at least the previous year if not longer. Hugo and his associates have performed so many jobs that it is very possible that one or two might slip my mind. He painted a deck and all outside trim. He repaired siding and replaced a flashing. He power washed a garage. He installed a garage door opener. He has hauled away several large trailer loads of trash. He installed two new storm doors. He installed a new vinyl kitchen floor including plywood to cover the previous layers. He moved the dryer venting to a new location which involved approximately twelve feet of duct work and through a brick wall. He provided an electrician to relocate the dryer electric outlet and to install a new outlet with a separate breaker. He removed a small tree that had decided to grow from the top of the chimney and repaired the brick and mortar that it had displaced. He has just this week moved a large trailer load of furniture from Durham to Chapel Hill and is in the process of correcting a problem with the washer drainage. He has built kitchen cabinets from a kit that I ordered from an online manufacturer and installed a new sink in those cabinets. He reseeded my front lawn and limed and fertilized it.. He has quite a few lawn and landscaping customers, also. We asked Hugo to promise that he would still be available to assist us even after his popularity exploded after many more people were aware of his tremendous value via Angie's list. He is extremely fair in his pricing to the point of us having to insist that he take more in several instances when he grossly undervalued his services. We truly feel that "handyman" does not fully describe the large number of areas where he can offer outstanding work. He will be replacing a large window for us in the near future along with laying carpet in our entire house plus many jobs that have yet to come to mind. Hugo is a fine family man and a man of his word. We fully and completely recommend his services without reservation.
