David is a perfectionist. His cost is totally reasonable and he takes his time to make sure it's what you want and not just for him to make money. He was available and easy to reach. Even while on other jobs made time to get back to us in a timely basis. Our kitchen work took some vision and he made it happen. A very personable young man and I would recommend 100%.

My ceiling fan in the living room did not have an attached light fixture. One of the items on my vacation honey-do list was to remedy this. Went to Lowes and bought a light fixture for the existing ceiling fan. Hooked it up, flipped the switch, no light. With a basic understanding of electrical wiring, I narrowed down the issue to a couple of suspects and decided a professional was needed. I called David on New Year's Eve at 8:30 in the morning. At 11:00, he was in my living room on a ladder. He showed up when he said he would and couldn't have been more professional. He was very personable and made sure he explained everything to me and what my options were. He also made sure to explain to me when things would cost extra and when things would not. I could not be more pleased with the service David provided. If I ever have any electrical issue in the future, there is no other option for me. I am all for David and Stinger Electric. Oh yeah, his prices are incredibly reasonable as well.
Description of Work: David fixed a wiring issue I had with a ceiling fan light fixture the same day I called.

Don't understand why he would bother to show up and then not followup or communicate with us.
Description of Work: I called Stinger based on reviews from Angie's list. Took a couple of calls to get him to return my call. He stopped over on June 16th and was very professional as we did a walk thru of the house and the work we needed. Said he would get back to us with an estimate in about a week. That was 5 months ago. Never heard back from him. Posting now because I'm trying Angie's List again to find a contractor as we still need/want to have the work done. Surprising given all the positive reviews.

See above. Very happy.
Description of Work: We are extremely happy with Dave's work. Initially we had Dave over to diagnose an electrical trip. He came over fixed the problem right away. We were impressed with him and asked him to quote an electrical project we had in mind for some time. He gave us a quote to intsall 30 amp marine and 20 amp circuits on our dock plus 5 lights on 2 switches. He and Jeff came back at low tides so they could install the wiring under the dock. His work is very profiessional and he is very flexible as our plans for the lights evolved during the project. The outcome is better than we thought. I would definitely have Dave back at our house to do our electrical work

It was 4:30 p.m. when we called Stinger and the owner, Dave, said he would be able to come by around 6. He'd call before he came. Dave called to confirm he would be by shortly after 6. He and my husband did a little investigative work that left Dave puzzled as well. He continued to test and work until he found the problem. A close inspection of a GFI that looked OK revealed that it had shorted out melting a wire into the plug. All was well after a new GFI was installed all was well. He was here close to 2 hours so we were pleasantly shocked when the charge was only $65. Dave was very nice, very helpful and had a good sense of humor about figuring out this puzzle. We highly recommend him to anyone who needs an electrician. Great guy!
Description of Work: The outlets in our dining room blew due to a surge then would not work again. My husband did his due diligence to find the problem even replacing one outlet and a GFI. When he couldn't figure out the problem we called Stinger Electric.

I called Dave ahead of time working on finishing a foreclosure. I had to schedule painters, roofers, etc., and I gave Dave about a weeks notice that I would like to have him come in and install a few GFCI's....I initally thought this was all we would do, but after painting the walls, the 25 year-old yellow switches and receptacles showed their age, and I asked Dave to change all the receptacles...I'm guessing 30 or so...to the childproof receptacles. He also changed all our switches from old and quot;almondand quot; to white. He also installed all the fixtures in our house...maybe 10 hall lights, three bathroom lights, two fans, two pendants, and a dining room chandelier....then their was the death fan. This antecdote should sum up how professtional Dave is: We have a 20 foot ceiling in our den that had a ceiling with a slop of approximately 40 degrees. Most fans allow for a slope of around 14 degrees. I didn't know that at the time. Basically fans are cradled in a bracket that allows them to self-adjust a little bit, but past 14 degrees your fan will not drop straight down. They make a bracket for such an occasion but you have to order them and I hadn't done this ahead of time. Dave battled my fan for the better part of a day without this special bracket. He did this, because he knew I was on a schedule where my family and I were moving in in less than three days and we wouldn't have the scaffolding that allowed Dave to hang the fan for long enough to wait on the special bracket. Finally Dave used a and quot;pancakeand quot; box for a fan and installed it with a few extra nuts on one side of the pancake. This allowed for it to screw into the rafter at an angle, and it gave the fan base enough of an angle to use the and quot;normaland quot; fan bracket. Point is: 99% of all electricans would have said....sorry, you need to get the part and you'll have to wait on your fan, and/or get more scaffolding....not Dave. He battled death fan and won! Don't hesitate to use him.
Description of Work: Dave changed every outlet, switch, switchplate, fixture, and fan in a foreclosure we bought. It was a monster amount of work...he did it in four days, and worked on Saturday, and he did it for $425....what?! If you use another electrician in Wilmington, you're crazy. Not only is Dave the least expensive, fairest electrician I've ever dealt with, he's a great guy. More than once he took intiative in making smart descions without being asked to (i.e. heigth of fixtures, etc.). Not only was I comfortable leaving Dave in my home, he locked up after himself when I wasn't there, took out a large number of boxes we had full of trash, and he broke down the scaffolding I had set up for the fan installation and put it in the garage for me. If you hire this guy, and it doesn't work out....something is wrong with you, not him. I'm that confident in the guy.

I could not be more pleased satisfied.
Description of Work: Dave is an extremely personable & competent professional. After 5 hours of work, $210 was a most reasonable price for the time-consuming challenges he solved in my old house. One electrical outlet installation was easy but converting another electrical outlet to a switch for a disposal and an outlet under the sink cabinet was tricky since there is no access from under the house to that wall.

I had called David several days earlier to get an estimate. I shopped around after receiving his estimate but couldn't find anyone cheaper. I called David back on 4/3 to set up an appointment for the installation. He told me he could do it that same day - which he did. He had to go into my condo's attic through a very small entrance located in the top of my closet. It took some time but he did a great job. He didn't have time to move the ceiling fan from the dining room to the living room but said that he would get back in touch to set up a time to do that job. 5/29/12 - David never came back to move the ceiling fan. I called him around the first of May to see if he had forgotten me, or just didn't plan on coming back. He told me he was slammed with work and would get back in touch when he had time to do the job. It's been almost a month and I've never heard back from him so I guess never planned on coming back. He should have been honest enough to tell me that at the beginning. Because of that, I have given him an F in responsiveness and an F in professionalism.
Description of Work: I asked David to hang a ceiling fan (that I had purchased) in my bedroom. He hung the fan, added a wall switch and a remote control. I also asked him to move a ceiling fan from my dining room to my living room.

Installation of a new outlet and light switch. Seemed pricey for what I got. He picked up the electrical equipment for installation and I guess I should have made a point of saying I didn't want the cheapest possible fix. I ended up with a big metal exposed outlet box and the world's cheapest light switch. He forgot his vacuum so there was a bit sheet rock dust in places. He said he would e-mail me an invoice after I had already paid and I never got one. I also don't think he pulled an inspection permit for this job which I later found out was required. I had similar work done a month later in my bathroom by Meade Electrical for much less money and I know Meade Electrical pulled a permit since New Hanover County Inspections came by after the second installation and actually inspected the work. I was disappointed with my experience with Stinger Electrical. I won't use them again.

If you need an electrician in the Wilmington area, there's no need to call anyone else. We needed a light fixture repaired and a new light installed in our condo at Mayfaire Townview. We called Dave on Friday and he was able to come on Saturday when we would be there. Dave installed a new hanging large pendant fabric light and repaired a flushmount lighting fixture. He and his assistant were professional and took the time to do the job right. It took them a little over an hour or so (I didn't keep track of time). Having had many light fixtures installed in the past 2 years, I was stunned when he charged just $50.00 for such high quality work. If you need any electrical work done, you won't find a more professional and reasonably-priced electrician. His super service award is well-deserved.

I purchased a new bath fan to install myself. When I went into the attic to remove the old fan, the electrical was a nightmare. The junction box had five lines in it with my original 1948 wiring (I think it's called Loomax. It looks like the wires are wrapped with yarn and paper). I tried to install the new fan myself, but instead managed to shut down the power to my house for 24 hours. Once I started messing with the junction box from h***, I couldn't tell what was what (there is no white and black with Loomax), and suffice to say, threw in the towell and decided to call for help. I called Stinger electric based on Angie's list recommendations and Dave came out that day. He looked at the wiring, gave me a couple of options, and then went to work. He worked for two hours and charged me $60. A ridiculously nice guy, too. I'll never use another electrician in Wilmington for sure.
Description of Work: David rerouted two main lines to a new junction box in my attic. Then from that box, ran a line to my bathroom vent fan. Finally, he wired the vent fan properly.

Dave came the next day after I called him and provided us with an estimate for the work that was acceptable. As I was explaining the job to him, he mentioned doing some things that could save us money. The previous electrian who gave us an estimate was a couple hundred dollars higher than Dave. I am really glad we went with Dave. He is a great person, friendly and professionail. The job took longer than any of us expected but that may have been because it was an odd job. I would hire him for any electrical work to be done in or outside the house.

I called David on Tuesday, he answered the call immediately even though he was on another job. He came over the same day to see what needed to be done. He called me in the evening to verify the time-and also mentioned that he could get a replacement part rather than an entire unit. He arrived the next day, the part didn't work, so he went back to the store and got a different part which was less expensive. He did save me money and my exhaust fan does work. I plan on having he come back next week to install a security light out front. I would definitely recommend him.!

I called Dave Singley at Stinger Electric and asked if he would check the spotlight on our beach front condo. It had stopped working after almost a year of no problems at all since Dave had originally installed it. Dave came by within two days and fixed the problem, a burned out bulb. His fee was $ 20.00. How many electricians will do anything for $20?

On behalf of the Home Owners Association of our building, I found Stinger Electric listed on Angie's List. I called and asked Dave Singley, owner of the company, for an estimate. He returned my call promptly, gave us a very reasonable estimate and completed the job within a day or so. Our old spotlight was poorly designed and short circuited almost every time it rained. Our former electrician just replaced the bulb and the problem had continued. Since Dave replaced the entire unit with a waterproof model, the problem is fixed. For almost a year, we have had no problem with water leaking into the spotlight whenever it rained. We think Dave Singley is a great electrician. He is very customer focused and takes pride in his work.Dave replaced the entire spotlight for about the same price as our former electrician had charged to replace the bulb.

There was nothing I disliked about them. He was prompt and attentive, and explained what was going to be needed to be done very well, especially because I have had no background with what we were asking him to do. He gave us multiple options and price, because there were a couple of different ways we could solve the electrical issues we were having. I thought he was as professional as, if not more professional than, any other electrician or service provider I’ve dealt with. I didn’t have a problem with the price or the quality of work. The first time we called them, he was able to schedule by that afternoon, which was nice. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
