We hired Asheville Painting and Deck in April to complete a straightforward deck repair and painting job. Its now August 12, and the job isn't finished. I will say this: the workers that finally did show up, Jimmy and Ronald, are awesome, and we very much tried to convince them to start their own business, because they are in an unfortunate situation of being strapped to this sinking ship of a company. I won't bore you with the details of the multiple calls, emails, texts, begging and pleading with Asheville Painting to come and complete the job they agreed to do. I won't go into detail about the complete lack of follow-up or the office staff and managers who have no idea where or what their workers are doing. I will tell you this. When we contacted the manager this week (Derek) to tell him that after waiting an additional three weeks for them to come out and complete their job, after several phone calls asking when they would come out, we told him we had to finally hire another company to complete HIS job. His response was simply "OK"..... In a text message....... Now ask yourself this: If you owned a company that provided a service, and after multiple calls asking you to PLEASE come and complete a service that you had agreed to do 4 months prior, and you had failed to do so, what would your response be when a customer tells you that they have hired another company to complete YOUR job?........"OK"?....By text message? Without so much as a phone call to see what you might be able to do to remedy the situation? Think about that.....And.....Look Elsewhere

Response from Asheville Painting Co
We are truly sorry that you had such a bad experience with our company. After reading [member name removed]' review I thought it required a detailed response as to how things lined up and that there was a lot of communication between Asheville Painting Company and [member name removed] and [name removed] despite the above mentioned "lack of communication". There are many things that I would like to point out though. [member name removed] stated that he had been working with us since April that is true, but we did not receive the signed contract for work until May 12, 2015. So there lies 3 weeks of checking in and seeing if they wanted to complete the project. On 04/29/2015 we advised that work for the staining would not be until around July 6-8 and at that time also advised that we would need colors and a signed contract to begin the project. On 06/23/15 we tried to call you to let you know that we still have not heard about colors, but could not leave a voicemail due to the mailbox being full so we sent an email asking for colors and letting you know if you needed assistance to please let us know and we would give you a free color consult. That same day 06/23/2015 [member name removed] called back and stated that they were on vacation, but will send us the color selections when they get back. I received the colors on 06/25/2015 via email. We sent an email 06/25/15 letting you know that we received your colors and verified the pressure washing was to take place on July 3,2015. We sent another email on 07/02/15 to again verify that we were on schedule to complete the pressure washing on 07/03/15. We did complete the pressure washing on 07/03/15, but we also emailed [member name removed] to let him know that with all of the rain that the job prior to his was pushed back since it too was an outside project and when it rains we cannot paint/stain outside. I also advised that I would update them on Monday 07/06/15 as to what day that week we would be able to start his project. On 07/06/15 I sent am email to [member name removed] advising that we were going to have to push his project until Thursday of that week. He understood, but was not happy about it. On 07/13/15 Derek, the Vice President texted me and advised that [name removed] called him and stated that we were not allowed to leave her job until it is done for any reason and that she only wants to deal with Derek from now on. The next communication we have from the office to the [members names removed] is on 07/21/15 when the invoice was sent after the completion of the job. On 07/23/15 [member name removed] called the office and stated that there were a few spots they would like us to come out and touch up. I advised [member name removed] I would call him back after speaking with Derek. I called [member name removed] back on 07/23/2015 to let him know that we would be back out when the weather permitted us. On 07/27/15 I called and Spoke to [name removed] and advised since there had been so much rain we have not been able to get back out to complete the project and I would get with Jimmy (painter who completed the job) and see when he thinks would be a better day to come back out. [name removed] said Okay and Thanked me for the update. On 07/28/15 I called [name removed] and advised that Jimmy would like to know if Thursday would be a good day for him to come back out, received voicemail and left message. [name removed] called back the same day and stated that it would be okay for Jimmy to come out on Thursday and that she had shown him what areas that they would like touched up. I got off the phone with [name removed] and I called jimmy to let him know Thursday was okay and that she has left the stain outside just in case she was not home. On 08/03/15 I called [member name removed] and [name removed] to see if they were happy with the touch-ups. Left a voicemail asking them to call back if there were any issues. On 08/10/15 [member name removed] called and stated that Jimmy had not been out to their house to fix the issues. I advised that Jimmy went back out on the 30th to complete the work, but they stated that they had not seen anyone. [member name removed] then stated that he thinks it is time that we schedule something to where one of them could be there and I agreed and told him I would let Derek know and see what date would be good for everyone. Not even 10 minutes later I received another call from [member name removed] and he stated that he was just going to have someone else come to his house that week to complete the work since he could get him out that week and not to worry about coming back out and he would mail us a check for the invoice sent. In the second call [member name removed] was very rude and condescending. While talking to Derek and letting him know what [member name removed] had said in the last 2 phone calls I found out that between the calls on 08/03/15 and 08/10/15 another of our painters had gone out on 08/07/15 and touched-up those areas again, but they were still not happy. I think that we attempted to fix any issues more than once, but with the weather being a deciding factor in our type of work all of our dates are not set in stone. Again, I am sorry that you had a bad experience with Asheville Painting Company and hope you the best in the future.

Asheville Painting was very professional from the first telephone contact through the quoting process and the actual work. They always showed up on time, were neat and clean, and worked efficiently. In the end we got a very nice paint job on a timely basis and at a reasonable cost. I would definitely use them again.

They were very nice and did a god job, my only concern is that I never got any response back about a small area of vinyl siding that was cracked, I think, whilee they were pressure washing the house. It may not have happened during this time but I did ask that it be looked at and never got any response one way or the other.

They not only did a fantastic job throughout, even suggesting a paint color when what we chose just wasn't right, in several cases went above and beyond. In one case they found that some of the crown molding was not properly attached and took the initiative to fix it to be right and then caulked all of it to look very professional. The house was empty but they were extremely careful to protect the flooring, windows and kitchen cabinetry. The job took slightly longer than planned but they worked extremely hard, and very long days, to get it done without sacrificing the quality. We are very pleased and will call upon them again.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a home and wanted the entire inside painted, ceilings, trim and walls, as well as removing a chair rail and some wallpaper. In some cases there was some wall repair to be done and to smooth out some rough surfaces.

The workers came late and left early, rather than finishing a small job. The job was done the next day, but so poorly that they had to come out and redo it. The job was still not done right, many areas left unpainted. Photos available on request. Do not use these people. it is hard to believe that they have so many good reviews, but perhaps they put their efforts into larger projects.

[member name removed], First we would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review. Although this is not one of our best reviews- it will certainly help us to learn and grow. I would like to say that the person who completed your project is not longer working with us due to multiple reasons. As a company we have high standards for quality and customer service and we regret your job did not meet your expectations. Your project was completed the last week of April 2012, according to our records. We received a call on April 30th stating the job was not completed to your satisfaction, and the crew left early on Friday. We do not condone our crews leaving early on Friday's and have sense addressed this issue. On June 6th, 2012 we received a call that the knots of the wood were showing through the white stain. We do not include the sealing of knots unless requested, which is very rare. The owner of the company, Ted Irvin, went out and touched up the knots. I called on June 8th, 2012 to confirm this was done to your satisfaction in which I was told it looked good. On June 16th we got a call of when we were going to come and touch up the knots again they were showing through. Ted went out again and touched up the knots, which was completed on June 25th. We did not hear anymore complaints and sent a survey out to confirm. We did not receive any feedback on the survey and did not hear anything until this review was posted. We give priority to customer service and our customers, which is why we returned more than once. We do give a one year warranty with our deck projects and are more than happy to come out and fix the knots again. Please call us by the end of the month if you would like us to come back out.

The work performed by the Asheville Painting Co.'s employees was excellent. The employees were very concientious; and careful and respectful of our house and landscaping. During the process of setting up a schedule, figuring out how to best clean the pergola, and getting it painted, there was some misscommunication within the company. While it wasn't bad, it could have been better. Overall, the pergola looks beautiful and we would call Asheville Painting Co. again for work.
Description of Work: Asheville Painting Co. was highly recommended to us by a neighbor. We have a three-year old pergola and wanted it cleaned and stained. The pergola is made of cedar, which is a soft wood. Standard power-washing proved to be too harsh on the wood, so it was cleaned with a strong bleach and water solution. This concerned me because it completely bleached the wood to a very light beige. Asheville Painting Co. recommended Cabot Australian Timber Oil as a treatment, and it was painted on. The pergola looks better than it did when it was new. I believe this oil was a good selection.

The owner of Asheville Painting came out, surveyed the job and later bid upon it. His bid included pressure washing, replacing three boards, scraping, sanding applying primer and two coats of paint. His crew came out and pressured washed. The next day, despite our protest, they started painting part of the house and scraping other parts of the house. At that time I pointed out to Ted, the owner, that painting the day after pressure washing left the wood too wet for the paint to adhere. .Despite my objections, he continued painting. The day after the paint was applied, huge sections, sometimes over ten square feet, bubbled. When I pointed this out to Ted, he said the paint would adhere after a few days. The paint did not adhere and I had to argue and force him to repaint those sections. He scraped some sections but did not sand at all. Also in contrast to the contract he wrote, large portions of the house were not primed. He also did not apply 2 coats to about 1/3 of the house. Instead he complained about being over budget because I demanded that the bubbled paint areas be repainted. The paint peeled all over the house within 2 years but unfortunately, my health prevented me from dealing with the problem within the 3 year guarantee period. The peeling paint and dealing with Ted were just not possible because I was fighting for my life. When I was finally healthy enough to talk to Ted, in February of 2011, at first he refused to come and look at the problem, he also ademantly refused to give me a copy of the original contract telling me that it was my problem that I lost the contract.I explained to my health problems to him and that the paint had been peeling since the second year, His response that it wasn't his problem and he didn't care. He insisted that the problems I was having had nothing to do with his work and that he would call the paint company for me.. He did not call the paint company. but now refuses to answer or return any calls from them. Finally,I contacted the paint company and they came out and took samples, The paint company sent samples of the peelng paint to their laboratory and determined beyond a doubt that it was the application of the paint, especially the painting right after the pressure washing, was the cause of the peeling paint. In other areas the surface was not sanded as contracted nor where there 2 coates of paint as contracted. Now he is refusing to answer or return any calls from thw paint company. All in all, Ted did very little that he specified in his contract and what he did was done wrong. I would warn everyone to stay as far away from these painters as possible! UPDATED JUNE 18, 2012: Asheville Painting has lied in its response to our complaint. The paint company said that the surfaces were not property prepared, wet, unsanded, primed incorrectly in some areas. We had a THREE year warrant as they have always stated in their ads and in our contract. We did exactly what was asked of us by Asheville Painting prior to their starting. Asheville painting on the other hand did not do what their contract said they would do. They painted too soon after pressure washing( a guarantee for paint failure). They didn't sand those areas that needed to be sanded, they used caulking that cannot be painted in some areas and then painted over it. When the paint started to bubble the day after it was applied, the owner said that it would adhere the next day, something he KNEW was a lie. The owner got angry during the job because he said he was over budget. He wouldn't have been had he prepared the surfaces properly and hadn't had to paint over and over again because the paint was failing almost as soon as it was applied. Do it right the first time is what i say, he apparently doesn't believe in that and instead prefers to insist everyone else is wrong but him and lie about the descrepancies.Good luck to anyone using them, you are in for alot of problems. He wouldn't even provide us with a copy of our contract when we thought we'd lost it. We found it though and can now stubstantiate all of our claims

We have done some research in regards to this review. We did complete the exterior painting of this customer’s home in June of 2007. When we completed project we supplied a one year warranty for the work. This was not our usual 3 year warranty because of the condition of the existing siding which was discussed at the time of quote. It was advised to her at the time of the quote that it would be best to replace the siding that was in poor condition, because the paint is only as strong as what it is put onto. She was not financially able to do this at the time and chose to paint. We replaced 10 boards of siding that were in the worst shape and not able to just be painted over and we did not charge her for this. We went above and beyond the scope of work that was quoted for her job, because for us customer satisfaction is very important. Over the next couple years went back and complete multiple touch ups and a few other items that were not covered under our warranty; for example weather damage, pets, and normal wear and tear. In 2011 she called and requested we repaint her house before her “5 year warranty” ran out. We have never provided a 5 year warranty on any of our work. In an attempt to do our due diligence with this customer we asked if she had a copy of the five year warranty- she said yes and we asked if she would send it. We never received this. We also visited her home as well as the Sherwin-Williams District Representative Chad Horton- who explained that it was not the paint peeling but it was the deterioration of the siding that was causing the paint to come loose, which meant it would not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. We feel we have done everything within our ability to satisfy this customer. Repainting a project that is not holding up because of non-paint related issues would not be in the best interest of the customer or the company. If this was done it would continue to fail year after year, which would only lead to more issues down the line. We wish the customer the best, and thank her for her business.

Asheville painting was amazing. From the first phone call, throughout the estimating process, the paint selection process, and the cleaning, prep work, and the apinting itself, the workers were completely professional, dependable, and conscientious. We cannot speak highly enough of their wonderful work ethic, and pleasantness. They were neat, reliable, and courteous, and we would use them again and recommend them to all.
Description of Work: The entire exterior of our home was painted, siding one color, trim, a contrasting color Three decks were also painted, as well as all the railings around them. Two of the decks had to have the paint completly stripped off so they could be stained. This was very tedious work, but the painters did an excellent, conscientious job. Our home is on the side of a mountain, and the sides and back of the house are on a very steep slope, and very high, but this was no problem for the painters. They are accustomed to this type of work situation. Very well trained and safety minded. Power washing the house and decks, as well as scraping and caulking were all included in the price.
