Marlon and his team exceeded our (very high) expectations and we could not be any happier with the results! Marlon and everyone on the crew was friendly, prompt, professional, and very considerate of our property. The quality of their work was exceptional and they are awesome to work with! From our first meeting with Marlon, we were very impressed and felt everyone's goal was to provide exactly what we asked for. Marlon was personally on site for all or part of many work days and was also immediately accessible via phone or email. Marlon Triplett and his crew did an amazing job on all of the work. They worked on my deck over Christmas of 2016. They worked despite rainy conditions, setting up tents and making the best of it. The deck turned out beautifully - the materials and workmanship are high grade. The patio was built about month later due to the rainy ground conditions during that time of year. It turned out beautiful as well. They also built a new porch rail on my front porch and added an enclosure around my A/C unit in the back yard. Everything was left unfinished and my husband and I stained it ourselves. It thought it looked great before it was stained, but now I just love it - I get compliments on the deck and patio from everyone who visits. I would highly recommend Deck Specialist if you need work done. They are flexible, knowledgable and well priced. In addition they always left things neat and tidy at the end of each day and communicated with me throughout the process to make sure I was happy.

I would like to recommend Deck Specialist and Outdoor Living to anyone that needs any type of renovation or new build of a porch or deck. Marlon Trippett came out when scheduled and gave us an estimate on a new screen porch with a tin roof and ceiling fan. He listened to our ideas and made some valuable suggestions. The crew started on time and worked hard every day. We were able to ask questions as the project progressed and add a few things along the way that we discussed with Marlon. We decided to have them stain the rough cut timbers used for the ceiling supports and they turned out excellent. Top quality workmanship and excellent follow through. The porch was completed as scheduled and any necessary adjustments or repairs after the work was completed was taken care of in a timely manner. Terrible. They promised to have done in 3 days and it took them a month to get project completed in stages. The fence is a year old and they have had to come numerous times to correct sagging fence and gate problems. Work was not completed on time and sub-quality materials. This was the 1st 8 ft fence they ever installed (they did not tell her this was their first 8 ft fence otherwise would not have hired) and project was a disaster from the start. Inexperienced workers (owners buddy from high school that had never done this type of work) and most of fence had to be taken down and reinstalled again under the close eye of the contractor. Post still not holding the weight of fence. Owner is a joke. Would not take the time to return daughters phone calls. When asked that he come inspect the problem and see what could be done He had office staff promise everything would be corrected and sends same workers out that screwed it up the first time. Poor response from office staff and owner. Stay away from this company and hold payment until you know the project won't fall down. Hire at your own risk.

Marlon was great to work with. He was very easy to contact and tirelessly patient with all of the questions my wife and i had. The crew did a great job and the deck is beautiful. The quality/grade is much higher than the original.

Deck Specialist was a fantastic group with which to work. Marlon and his team were professional, friendly people that did the work in timely fashion and on budget. I asked for some adjustments in the middle of the job. Marlon discussed any pricing differences and made those changes quickly and easily. I couldn't give a higher recommendation for Deck Specialist. I've had three neighbors come by to comment on how great it looks.

After getting estimates from 2 other contractors, we set up an appointment with Marlon and he was on time. We wanted the old deck (12x12) torn down and replaced with a larger one (16x20). We decided to have the deck flooring with treated lumbar and the railings and ballisters using a composite product Trex for the low maintenance. Everything went on schedule as Marlon stated with the supplies coming within a week and 2-3 days for construction. It took 2 1/2 days with only a couple hours to tear down and take away the old deck. They cleaned up beautifully, nothing for us to do but enjoy our deck. We are very pleased with the work and would definitively hire them again. Marlon and all the crew are very nice and friendly. Marlon always would respond quickly to any emails or phone calls from us. We have gotten a lot of nice compliments from neighbors and family on our new deck.

I tried to but actually they wouldn't return my call or get back to me, its been like two months because I had something that I needed them to repair. It was a sixteen thousand dollar deck and it was less than a year ago finish and I just wanted them to come look at minor repair.

From start to finish we were extremely happy with the process and the final product. We had received quotes from several different companies and Marlon was by far the most responsive, seemed to understand what we wanted, and even offered suggestions on ways to save money by changing minor elements of our idea. The entire project took about 3 weeks start to finish (with some snow days in the middle), which was exactly what he told us to expect. I had a lot of questions in the beginning phases, and Marlon was very patient and helpful in explaining exactly what they were going to do. His work crew was very polite and made sure to clean everything up at the end of the day. Marlon himself was also on the job site almost every day to check everything out and make sure we were happy with the progress. The project was completed exactly the way we wanted, and we couldn't be happier. It included a pretty large (and tall) gabled roof with rustic beams, electrical work, and a few other odds and ends. We have been practically living on our deck since the project was finished, and it's almost like we added another room to our house! I have already recommended Deck Specialists to a friend, and we plan to call them again in the future when we get started on some other projects.

Deck was torn out and rebuilt between Christmas and New Years. The guys showed up on time, worked hard, and left the area clean each day. Rain was an issue during the week and they erected tents and continued working despite the conditions. The deck was finished within the week and the quality and workmanship is amazing. Due to the extensive amount of rain and snow we got during that time, the patio was not installed until February when ground conditions permitted. The area for the patio was dug out, and the ground prepared. The stone was laid beautifully with a secure edging. The guys again, did a great job and left the area neat and tidy for me. After the deck was completed, I decided to have a few extras - I asked them to build a lattice surround for my A/C unit and to also put a skirt around the patio. These items were taken care of quickly and also look wonderful making my yard as beautiful as I could have imagined.

We had several deck companies and general contractors submit designs and proposals for the addition of a screened in porch off the back of our home. Marlon was right in line with the other estimates, but blew away the competition in terms of the amount of time he spent with us, his attention to detail, and his flexibility in meeting our budget and functional needs. We had to get HOA approval and Marlon was very helpful in putting together the required documentation including modifying his plans where needed. We wanted to get the porch framed/screened in right away and then complete the finishing items the next spring (trim, paint, fan, lights, floor, etc). A couple of the contractors we talked to were flat out unwilling to be flexible in this regard. Marlon didn't hesitate and instead, he walked us through what needed to be done up front and what could wait including a detailed breakdown of costs for a couple different options. Marlon was extremely professional and truly a pleasure to work with. The crew showed up on schedule and worked hard over the course of a couple of weeks to complete the work. We were kept informed of any changes and questions along the way. The crew was very professional and left the work-site clean at the end of each day. My wife was home most of the time with our small children and was somewhat concerned about having a bunch of people coming and going every day. The crew (led by Marlon's brother) could not have been more friendly and considerate and quickly made her feel comfortable being at home alone. The work was completed as planned, on time, and on budget. Marlon even took care of several things that came up along the way at no additional charge. They were flexible in making some changes along the way even though I know it must have resulted in some re-work. We needed them to complete the work before Thanksgiving as we were expecting guests. Near the end of the project, they worked late and came out on the weekend to make sure it got done in time. We love our new outdoor space and can't wait for warmer weather. Do yourself a favor and have Marlon come out to sit with you and talk through a design. Then you can rest assured that he will deliver!

My wife and I have wanted a screened back porch for years and finally decided to make a move. I thought I would bid out the project and one of the companies I wanted to get a bid from was the Deck Specialist, Marlon Trippett, who had really good marks on Angie's List. Before I called him, I inadvertently ran into him at his display at a local home improvement floor show. My wife and I liked him immediately, both as a person and a seemingly knowledgeable building professional. He took our name and number as did about 4 or 5 other companies at the show. His company was one of two that actually called us back. We made an appointment for a home visit, and Marlon came to our house. He was personable, courteous, friendly, and was a good listener. He made recommendations, based on what we said we wanted and needed, that significantly improved on and surpassed the expectations we had developed in terms of the size and location of the porch. He took measurements, asked some more questions, offered some options, and then gave us an estimate on the spot. It was pretty much in line with our budget, but I didn't feel we should pull the trigger right away. He said he would send us a revised estimate via email with whatever discounts we might qualify for (including an Angie's List discount), and we could let him know our decision. No pressure, no hype, no big sales pitch... just a pro who apparently knew he was offering a really good product at a reasonable price. Once he left, we talked it over and decided that with his Angie's List creds and our quick assessment of him personally, we wanted him to build our porch. We never got another estimate. Marlon told us that payment would be made in thirds: one third at project beginning, one at the midpoint, and one when finished. We felt that this was a totally fair and equitable arrangement for a consumer and a committed builder; he can pay for the materials to start the job, and keep it going, and you know he doesn't get completely paid until the job is done. We were not on a really tight schedule, which was a good thing, because we experienced an unbelievably wet November and December here, and many days the conditions made it impossible to work. Nevertheless, on those days that allowed work to be done, the Deck Specialist crew was always prompt, friendly, courteous, considerate, tidy, and from what I know about building, meticulously professional. The two main guys, Wes and Jason, were great people to have working on your house. When the project seemed about to fall behind schedule, these guys, and some other folks from the Deck Specialist crew, worked on rainy days using tents and tarps. They also worked on some weekends when the weather forecast looked like it would be difficult to work early in the following week. Who does that? As the porch progressed, and we walked out onto it from our house each evening to "inspect" the work after they had gone, we got more and more excited, and more and more impressed by the quality of that work. Now that it's done, we could not be more pleased with the way the porch looks and feels and blends in with the rest of our home. It is everything we had originally imagined and more. We tell people that it seems this porch has been on the house as long as we've lived here (6 years) but we somehow just hadn't discovered it 'til now. Marlon came out to the house recently for the final payment and to see what we thought. He noticed some damage to the grass lawn next to the porch that had become muddy due to the incessant rainfall and its 'low' location, and the unavoidable need for worker traffic around the porch area. He offered to take care of it or give us a rebate so we could take care of it. We chose the latter. To the end he was attentive to our needs and insistent on being sure we were satisfied customers. This is the 7th or 8th time I have used Angie's List to find a professional service provider, but by far, the largest project in scope and cost. All of those experiences have been good, but none as gratifying as this one. We would recommend this company to anyone interested in great, conscientious, professional work at a reasonable price.

Marlon came out and discussed options and gave quotes, twice, and patiently answered questions, offered ideas and waited while I considered choices and decided what I wanted to do. He and his crew started when scheduled and finished a few days earlier than expected, despite a day or two lost to rain. I could not be happier with the results. The kiln-dried decking, stained Royal Mahogany, is beautiful. The Trex railing and ballisters give my house a whole new look. I LOVE my screened in back porch- a beautiful a living area I can fully enjoy without mosquitoes! With porch dimensions of 28x10 and 28x8, the cost of materials and labor did add up, but I feel the price was reasonable and worth every penny. I felt very comfortable that the crew knew what they were doing. The quality of all work was excellent. Definitely recommend Deck Specialist!

Marlon and his team are a rare find. Marlon shows up on time, starts a project when he says he is going to start it and then finishes it either ahead of right on time. His workers are courteous and take great pride in what they do. They also do a great job cleaning up the work site and leaving it as unscathed as when they first arrived. All in all, a very good experience and would work with them again.

They removed the old deck boards, checked the main boards to make sure they were solid, and then replaced the deck boards with pressure treated boards. They also replaced 4 boards on the deck stairs. They finished in the estimated time they gave us. They were very professional and did a great job! We highly recommend them.

Very pleased with the new decks. Couldn't ask for a more professional crew. Work was done promptly and well. They did everything we asked for and made good suggestions. Very responsive to questions and concerns. Cleaned up so you'd hardly know they were there. Also gave us maintenance tips.

These guys worked their a**** off. They did an outstanding job and I am now talking with them about pouring a pad underneath the deck for yet another leisure area. The new deck looks amazing and we thoroughly enjoy having coffee on it in the mornings.

It went well, we did have some minor trouble getting in touch with the company in the early stages, but they process was extremely smooth after they came out. They provided high quality work that was done in a timely manner (which was nice as we were waiting to get this done to put our house on the market). In addition to doing the work that was listed above, Deck Specialist also completed two small jobs for us (removing two old planters that had stripped screws we couldn't remove and straightening out our screen door so that it would actually shut as it is supposed to do. I'd highly recommend this company and if we ever need deck work in the area again, I know who we'd call.

Jeff (Marlon's brother) was the carpenter. He and his crew worked for 3 weeks in rebuilding our deck. They worked in the hottest heat and even through heavy rain periods. Showed up everyday to work and worked all day . Very impressed with their attention to detail and quality of work. Highly recommend them for deck work.
