gas grill repair
+ -1 moreMcCall was prompt to call me initially and also to come out and see what was needed for repairs. However, when he called to advise parts were in, he was two days late in coming out and that was only after I called his cellphone. When he was on first call, I told him that if the job entailed too much expense, that I would just buy a new one from Lowes. He adamantly tld me that Lowes was no good and that the repair would not cost as much as a new grill. After I was informed of the charges, he told me that replacement cost was cheaper than buying a new Ducane grill. I was stunned.t I did not make any further comment and just wrote out the check and he left. It is true that no actual estimate was given but I know, based on current economic situations etc that I was ripped off.
Description of Work: Called Plato McCall to fix my Ducane gas grill since the ignition did not work. He came out and told me I need new ignition. Also recommended that I replace two bottom grills. I told him to order them too. McCall called me Tues 4/07/09 to advise parts in. We agreed he would come out next day Wed 4/09/09. He was a no-show Wed as well as Thursday. I called his cell phone (828)507-9650 and left message asking when he was coming out. He showed up Fri afternoon. He replaced the ignition. Put in the two replacement grills and put in lava rocks which I had previously bought. I sat down with him at my table and he told me the amount was $225.00. I reminded him that I had mentioned buying a new grill if this repair would be too much money. He told me that it would be cheaper to repair. His response was that his charge of $225 was cheaper than buying a new grill. He also told me he had had to make two trips out and I was charged therefore $150 for his labor. I feel his labor bill was preposterous and outlandish. I was gouged.
