GreenSource is a green builder who utilizes local materials, focuses on energy efficiency and uses a waste management plan to help a job of any size be as green as possible. We have 1-3 educated and skilled carpenter on staff at all times. Being a small business allows for each job to get the attention it needs. Currently GreenSource is not a General Contractor and can only do jobs under 30k. Pricing is dependent on the scope of work and include free estimates. Although GreenSource is a newer business, we have over 6 years experience in green building in the Asheville area. This includes the first LEED Certified home for Southern Living magazine and the first LEED Certified home on Extreme Home Makeover.

Showed up on time installed, as above. Floor felt much more solid, basin dug and pump installed. While they were here they noticed our tankless water heater and the pump system in place to provide us with hot water. They suggested installing a recirculating system, saying it would be more efficient and just as effective. (No, they aren't licensed plumbers either). Sadly, rather than going back to our great plumber (A2Z Plumbing), we said ok, go ahead. They installed this recirculating system and after installation, we found ourselves in the shower when suddenly there would be no hot water for 30 seconds to a minute, then the hot water would resume. This might happen 1-3 times during a shower. No fun in January. In researching this ourselves we found that this type of system greatly shortened the warranty on the water heater. Repeated emails back and forth to Josh, no solutions, no answers. Last we heard on this was that he'd be contacting some of the guys he worked with to see if they had ideas....that was 6 weeks ago. Then we had a heavy rain - good test for the sump pump - well, it failed. Apparently they tested the pump (which worked) but their design/setup was faulty. I spent 2 hours down in the basement and finally figured out that the hole/basin was too shallow: water was over the top of the basin edge before the arm could be raised to turn the pump on. Phone calls to them on the weekend this happened got the lackadaisical response that they'd try to be out on Monday afternoon. After I figured out where they went wrong, I told them where they went wrong... In summary, he needs more time learning his trade. Ok for small stuff, but I wouldn't hire him again as a stand alone builder.... UPDATE - Wondering why someone would offer to do work they weren't qualified to do. Saving money was not really the major issue, it was that an idea was presented that they said would be able to do. I don't recall that anyone ever told them the issue was "taken care of". We actually waited to hear back from them for some time before we did call someone else.
Description of Work: Found this guy through a recommendation from Greenbuild to look at some questions we had about the foundation of our 1923 bungalow. We'd been having some water intrusion into the basement and were looking for some way to prevent or remove water from the area and as well had some general questions about the uneven floors (one with a good bit of bounce to it) as we wanted to make sure things were still solid after all these years. Josh took a look at these things and gave us an estimate, in his favor telling us up front he didn't have his contractors license, but that he had 7 years working in the trades and felt comfortable with giving his opinions or referring us to someone else. We admired his gumption and the price was reasonable, so we said go ahead. Initial services were to install framing in the basement under the bouncy floor and excavate a catch basin and install a sump pump in the area where the water came in.

Response from Green Source Sustainable Building
Wow, these comments are certainly unexpected and a bit skewed. This customer knew we were not plumbers and decided to try and save money rather than talk to his plumber (who is also a friend of mine) When he called on the weekend with a problem, I responded and when I was ready to head their way he told me it was taken care of. This is an example of trying to help someone save money and energy and it coming back to bite you in the back side.
