Well-Loved Piano

Tim was extremely professional. Prompt in providing timely response while coordinating when we would have him perform services. Arrived early, and ready to go. He is very knowledgeable and trustworthy, and gave us guidance on how to better care for our piano to ensure that it performed to its potential and we could prolong the use of it. Nice guy, great service and value.

It went very well. Their adminstrators were prompt, the appointments were added to my calendar in an easy and professional way, they fixed the piano and tuned it, and they went above the call of duty to repair the piano's humidifier system and to help.

Tim arrived on time and got right to work tuning my piano. The only fault I have with him is that his piano playing far far far exceeds mine .......I hope to be better next time he returns.

Tim was very professional, seemed to have a passion for his profession and possessed expertise. Took time to explain his process and answer all of our questions.

We have an old piano (1929) that was found in a warehouse. My mother-in-law refinished it and had it tuned before giving it to us. We had Barnes Piano look at it and there was some damage that had to be repaired before properly tuning it. This required two visits to our house. Both times, Tim was very professional and timely. His office staff were great at communicating the schedule and sending reminders. After Tim did clean the piano, he revealed a Latin phrase and emblem that was painted inside the piano. Even my mother-in-law did not know this existed even though she tried to clean it many times. The piano never looked so good. I would definitely recommend Barnes Piano and we plan to use them for our future piano tuning maintenance.

Scheduling was easy, and they sent several reminders. Tim showed up on time and was polite and friendly. He examined the piano and gave me options since it hadn't been tuned in several years. I picked and option, and never felt pressured to choose a more expensive set of services. When he was done, Tim talked in detail about what he had found, what it meant for the piano, and how to care for the piano in the future. We went ahead and booked next year's service (pianos should be tuned at least once yearly--we were just behind).

My whole experience with Barnes Piano from start to finish was a breeze. I purchased an Angie's List big deal for a piano tuning, and was promptly contact by the office to schedule a time for service. They were very friendly and accommodating of my schedule. Tim arrived on time and took the time to familiarize himself with my piano, then gave great info about the condition of the piano and his recommendations. I chose to add a pitch raise and felt treatment to my original tuning package and was very pleased with the results. Tim was personable and knowledgable and I would definitely recommend Barnes Piano. I will be using them in the future for my piano tuning needs.

It went really well. He explained that I needed to control the humidity better, but said that considering the age of the piano, that it was not in really bad condition. I used an Angie's list deal, so I felt that the overall cost was a good deal. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone. I was very pleased about the entire experience.

Tim was very clear in his explanation of what was being done. The original deal was $99 for a fine tune. It turned out that a fine tune wouldn't be successful unless an adjustment was done for an extra $65. The explanation sounded logical and honest, so I said go ahead. He did a beautiful job. The piano has never sounded so good. This is a man who knows his business.

He was terrific! He worked a lot of hours and did a lot of work on our Grand Piano. He is very nice and very talented. He took our piano apart and put it back together. He did a very nice job.

Timothy Barnes arrived at the scheduled time and did a detailed analysis of the condition of our very used piano. Gave honest feedback about its poor condition and spent the time tuning and repairing as much as possible. He then spent a good amount of time explaining all the additional repairs that needed to be done and weighing the pros and cons of spending that amount of money on repairs for this particular piano. He then prepared and emailed me a a condition report detailing what he had spoken about so I could make an informed decision on whether to spend money on repairs or replace the piano with one in better shape. He was very professional and knowledgeable and I would not hesitate to use Barnes Piano again the in the future.

I felt the value of our experience with Barnes Piano was an investment in our piano. It was an education as well. So often experts don't really explain what they do or why they do it. When Tim was in our home he gave us information on our piano, pointed out the parts that he was working on and was very forthcoming with why the work needed to be done and what we could expect in the new "climate" He also explained that our piano used to be an old "player" piano. We never knew. Tim was personable polite and courteous. Although he was running late, he called to give me an estimated updated arrival time and met that deadline. He was respectful of my time and worked very quickly to repair and tune our piano. I love to play my piano, it brings me great joy and is an investment for my children, I feel like I have found a trusted friend who will help me keep my piano tuned and working for years to come, so my grandchildren can enjoy it just as much as I have. Just like you need a good doctor for your health, a good mechanic for your car and a good place for BBQ...you need a good piano tuner. Barnes Piano is quality with a song. You will be glad you called.

They were pricey, but the staff was extraordinarily professional and knowledgeable. The piano sounds great, too.

Tim came by to pitch tune and service my Great Grandmother's piano at our family lake house. I will start by saying this piano hadn't been serviced since my grandmother passed (so probably 10+ years and 1 move.) We had 9 "dead keys" as I called them that were permanently pressed down. B/c we don't live permanently in the house and we have no real piano players in the family its only played 10-15 hours a year (much less since the keys started going out 3 years ago). I have never called a piano servicing/tuning company before b/c I was afraid it would cost a fortune to service this 60+ year old piano and for the low utility we get out of it... It just wasn't going to be worth it. Then enters Tim... Not only did Tim tune and repair the piano, but he also showed me how to fix and replace the plastic elbows that were causing the keys to die. He explained that the plastic they used back then can grow brittle over the years and have the tenancy to break over time. He left several replacements for me to use should one break in the future. He said it would save me from having to call a service man the next time one breaks! In under 2 hours he had finished everything. Tim, shows a tremendous amount of passion for what he does. I really liked the guy. I spoke with him for about 45 minutes while he was servicing the piano and learned he is the company founder and owner. You can tell his business has a bright future ahead of it. He said he's slowly expanding his business beyond Charlotte to become the go-to service for piano repair throughout the Carolina's and beyond. He teaches and speaks in annual conventions and seminars about growing and expanding piano servicing businesses. I had no idea such a thing even existed, but it's wonderful to hear someone talk so passionately about their industry and their business. My only regret was not calling Tim 4 years ago. The piano sounds great and I'm now thinking of hiring a piano player for my engagement party I'm hosting this fall to play our freshly tuned piano! Thanks again Tim, it was great meeting you!

I called Barnes Piano to have an piano that I was looking to purchase evaluated (it had potentially been damaged in a fire). They were very responsive, and they were able to arrange an appointment on very short notice. Timothy arrived early for the appointment and got straight to work. He was thoroughly knowledgeable not only about every aspect of the piano itself, but also about the various types of issues caused by intense heat and soot. He spent a good deal of time inspecting every part of the piano. He was able to point out several things that I never would have been able to determine on my own, that made a world of difference in my purchase decision. Timothy was a complete professional and an absolute joy to work with. If you are looking to purchase a used piano, I would strongly recommend that you give Barnes a call. Their knowledge and experience is worth its weight in gold not only in what it might save you financially, but also in what you will learn about your specific potential investment.

The piano was moved 5 years ago and had not been tuned in many years....he did an excellent job and I will have him continue to tune the piano going forward.

Timothy is awesome. I had told him that I purchased the piano on Craig's list and wasn't sure of the condition it was in, but Timothy put me right at ease. It needed some minor repair and a big cleaning and tuning. Now the piano sounds wonderful. Barnes Piano Services is prompt, reliable, and trustworthy.
