We have used them two or three times actually. We had them come before and they did the best job. They do good lawn service.
Description of Work: I used the services of Hoaglandscape. They replaced some of the plants. A year before that, they did the landscaping for us.

It went well. Mr. Hoagland and his brother were very communicative and responsive throughout the processs. I was concerned when I was getting estimates because this was such a small job and not a fancy patio that would make for eye popping photos. The Mr. Hoagland(s) treated the job as though it was as important as any "big" job. I will certainly recommend Hoaglandscape in the future.

The repair of our water feature took longer than expected and the additional repairs that are under warranty have not been corrected.
Description of Work: This company does not stand behind the product that they install. We have fountain and lanscape lighting that was installed by Hoaglandscape. All of the lighting is inoperable and the fountain has malfunctioned multiple times. The owner Brian infromed us that the lighting was under warranty (15 year warranty) however after 5 years they indicated that they would need to charge $250 to replace the lights. After provding a quote for $250 to repair the lights as well as handle some of the other issues. The owner informed us that he would now have to charge $400 to do what he had already quoted $250 for. I've never seen a situation where an item is under warranty and the company says you have to pay to have it replaced. I feel that this company has tried to take advantage of us. The first quote for $250 was sent to me via email and then when my wife attempted to contact the company to have the work done they gave her an entierly different price of $400.

The original lights were put in for a previous house owner more than six years ago. I met with the new homeowners more than a year ago and I told him after he contacted me about replacing his pump that I could switch them out for $250. I replaced the pump promptly and billed him, but received no payment for nine months. So, after going through this experience, I didn't feel comfortable working with him unless I upped the price. We work on the promise that we will be paid upon completion. The owner did not stand by these terms.

We love our new front yard! Brian was great from the first contact - he listened closely to our ideas and suggested wonderful options for the area we were replacing. He really fit the scheme to us. The first estimate was more than we had budgeted for this job and Brian was great about adjusting the plantings, scope of the work, etc. to get it down to what we needed. His crew arrived when scheduled and worked hard through a very hot, muggy day - finishing the job in mid-afternoon. They even did a fantastic job of cleaning up afterwards, sweeping up the unused dirt and mulch on the street. The only areas that I would have wished for a small change would be in communication. Once I got hold of Brian, it was great, but I did find myself sending him an email once in a while to chase down the latest status of our project (final estimate and start date). I also had hoped for a detailed breakout of the estimate to include a per-plant cost. I did receive a breakout that included a total plant vs. labor cost. I had hoped to compare plant costs to get a feel for market rate on the sizes that were planted. Overall, I am nothing but thrilled with the final project. My new butterfly bush has quadrupled in size and has attracted our first hummingbird. We will very likely go back to Hoadlandscape when the time comes to complete the original work planned for the front yard and what we hope to eventually get done in the back.
Description of Work: Suggested plants for color and minimal maintenance for full sun area. Removed all existing plants/ shrubs in front of house. Added topsoil and compost, planted 19 new plants/ shrubs, added mulch, trimmed existing tree to shape it.

I got an estimate and Hoaglandscapes. They came as scheduled and completed all of the work in one day.
Description of Work: Hoaglandscapes planted ferns and annuals. They removed leaves and put down several truckloads of mulch to cover all of our bed. Additionally, they put down 48 bales of pine needles and removed a concrete lift station (from a previous septic) and filled in the hole with topsoil. I have used this company several times in the past and have always been pleased with their promptness and their work. Our yard looks terrific. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend their services.

We are completely satisfied with Brian and his work ethics and integrity. This was a relatively large job and so we were a little nervous about the possible outcome but in the end we are very happy. Brian spent time explaining to us how to care for and maintain our new landscape and plants. Our landscaping is now second to none in our development. I highly recommend Hoaglandscape and would definitely use this company for my future landscaping needs.
Description of Work: Brian came to our house and looked at our yard and we asked him to work up a proposed landscape design. He came back several days later with a detailed drawing and recommendations for all the specific plants, trees and beds. He took into account our preferences and overall goals. He presented a very detailed work breakdown and estimate for each area of our yard which included exactly what was to be included in the price for each area of our yard. Brian is very knowledgable about plants, shrubs, and trees and understands landscape design. He put a lot of thought and effort into producing our design. We decided to complete all the work in his estimate and he started the job within 3 days of our agreement to proceed. He and his crew completed all the work over a two day time period as he had communicated he would. The scope of work consisted of creating a new large raised bed in the middle of the front yard, replacing all existing shrubs and plants in two existing beds next to the house, creating new beds at the side of the house, a new bed in the front side yard, and drainage work. His crew planted at least 50 or so new flowers, shrubs, trees, boulders, etc. and applied new mulch to all beds and pruned existing trees. Additionally, Brian is going to reseed our lawn in the fall as part of this job.

Brian is very down to earth and really a personable individual and he was very helpful because we talked about what my ideas were and he gave me his ideas also. We had very good communication between us and it was very helpful. The only thing that I did have a problem with was that I really wanted more color and I don't think that he met what I had in mind, but all in all it was acceptable. I thought the price was a little expensive for what I got. I would probably use the company in the future if they gave me better pricing.

From my understanding, the client has not personally seen the project -- only the photographs I sent her. I explained that the perennial flowers we purchased for her were not yet in bloom. I believe once she returns from out of town, and sees the perennials in bloom, she will get the color she asked for. The client specifically stated her budget after I gave her the original price and with a few changes we got down to her specific number. Our prices are right in line with our competition and she now has the prettiest yard in her neighborhood. That is money well spent and worth every penny. We would enjoy working for her again as she is a very nice lady.

My experience with Hoaglandscape was very good. Brian is very pleasant and very professional. He responded very quickly and the work was done a day earlier than promised. I had asked that they be careful and not leave dirt on my driveway as I had just had it pressure washed and when I got home that day, I could not even tell that they had been there. I am very pleased with the work that Hoadlandscape did for me.l
Description of Work: I contacted Hoaglandscape and asked for a quote on a landscape project. Brian responded to my e-mail the next day and we set up an appointment for him to look at my project. I received a quote within a couple of days. I did not do the entire project as planned but Brian did everything that we talked about and I added some additional plants at the end of the project and he took care of that very expediently also. I am very pleased with the results of Hoaglandscape planting 36 Blue Rug Junipers on a hill in my backyard, putting down fresh pine needles over the new junipers and also at the bottom of my yard.I would highly recommend Hoaglandscape and will use him again if the need arises.

It went very well overall. I would highly recommend Brian Hoagland. He is very knowledgable, experienced, reliable and very nice to work with. The process and the end result are great.
Description of Work: We have a very small patio with landscaping that was totally in disarray. Many of the plants were dying and the layout was all wrong. Briain Hoagland was recommended by a friend who uses his services and has been very happy with his work. Brian is very knowledgable about plants and has a good eye for design. He redesigned the yard by moving some existing plants and adding some new ones. We had a limited budget with which Bryan was able to provide good solutions. Everything was done in a timely way, regarding the plan, quote and actual work. The end result is great. I would highly recommend Hoaglandscape.

They were very prompt in every aspect of the experience. They arrived promptly on the first day of the project and finished one day earlier than planned. There were a few delays caused by rain, but everything that Hoaglandscape did was as planned. They sought our concurrence with the design and any alterations throughout the project. They provided excellent communications throughout and returned calls promptly. Brian was very professional and friendly, as was his crew. They guarantee all of their plantings for a year and will replace any that die.
Description of Work: Hoaglandscape removed many old bushes and plantings in the back, side, and front yards. Some bushes were relocated. They designed the bedding areas and the various types of new plantings. The work included about 40 new plantings. The bedding areas were tilled with topsoil and all planting areas were covered with mulch. The work also included a dry rock bed. They also prepped the yard by killing weeds and aerating, and then sowed grass. There were a couple of very heavy rainy days during the work and they came back to address some damage done to the new landscape by the rain.

My experience with Hoaglandscape went like clockwork! From the set appointment to the delivery of the evaluation and estimate I was completely satisfied. Brian showed up to our home on time, worked efficiently and effectively gathering his information and went over our desires for our landscaping as well as his suggestions. He worked up several different ideas for us to look over and gave us a breakdown we could use to build upon. it was a very good experience. We have yet to fulfill our end and complete the work, but as time permits we definitely will.
Description of Work: Brian came to our home and did a thorough evaluation of our landscaping needs. He gave us several options as to how to upgrade our landscaping. He did a great job! We are going to use his company as soon as we determine what options most fit our plans. I would highly recommend Hoaglandscape!

The project was wonderful. The owner, Brian Hoagland, provided information, suggestions and a full estimate. We were very pleased with his knowledge and understanding of what we wanted. Brian gave us a date and promptly appeared with crew in hand and all the new plantings. His brother, Steve, was our project manager and demonstrates the same friendly manner and professionalism. The project was completed in two days and Steve was on site and always willing to answer questions and chat with us about the work. We were very pleased with the outcome and Brian visited after the project was completed to check on the work and make sure that we were happy. I will continue to use them for my landscaping needs. They are great to work with.....

They are extremely friendly, nice and conscientious people. The problem with Brian is that he will take on projects that I don't think he is totally proficient in. They were wonderful in that they spread extra mulch. They used our compost in the landscaping plan. He tried very hard to work with me to get the price down. Everything would probably have worked out great if I had not needed him to do the drip irrigation, the hardscaping, the drainage work or the landscape design. I suggest that you go with this company if all you want is somebody to transplant where you tell them to plant, tend your lawn and mulch things. This company is very good at that but not with things like drainage and drip irrigation. The drip irrigation was installed incorrectly. I asked them to fix it and they came out to do that but it is still incorrectly installed and looks terrible to this day. The drainage problem still persists. Some of the plants were installed in bad areas and that killed them. Plants that need shade were installed in sunny spots and were killed by the sun. He is not very knowledgeable about plants. I would not have him design a landscape for me in the future. He is not very knowledgeable about the requirements of landscape design or the fundamentals. The trees that he recommended to be transplanted died within six months of transplanting them. All but one tree died. I had them inspected and they died primarily because they were planted too low in the ground and they got waterlogged. I recommend that anybody who wants to use this company should buy their own plants from a trusted greenhouse and not to buy them from Brian and his greenhouse because every plant that I bought from him, save a few, struggled desperately through the first year and I lost 30 percent of them. Brian guarantees his plants for a year but some of them died within a month or two of being planted. He came back and replaced them with new plants and those died as well. After replacing them once he told me that he would not be replacing them again.
Description of Work: I have used Hoaglandscape for landscaping. He came out and gave us a design plan. They did hardscaping work, mulched the pathway, planted gladiolas, and transplanted some trees from the front yard to the backyard. They also transplanted some existing trees from the backyard to new locations. They mulched beds and created flower beds. They mulched the perimeter of the yard and removed overgrowth of weeds. They trimmed some of our trees and recommend a company to come and cut down some trees to open up the yard a little bit and make it look bigger. They also installed a French drain and tried to address problem drainage areas. They installed drip irrigation although they did not claim to be specialists in that work.

Response from HOAGLANDSCAPE
The primary challenge with this job centered on drainage. The client's house sits at the low point in the neighborhood and on their side of the street all the water during a rainstorm runs down all their neighbors' yards above them. This was resulting in a lot of wash. To help with the problem we installed two drainage grates and installed piping from them to the low side of the yard. They were also having water enter their yard from their next door neighbor whose gutter spouts were exposed. We installed a french drain to catch this water as well. Assessing drainage problems is difficult, you never know the exact volume of water you are dealing with unless you witness it during a storm. They were still getting excessive water in their beds. So, we went back to replace dead plants and weeded their beds complimentary, as well as add to the french drain. All of this was done complimentary, even though this french drain was not quoted in the original estimate. Unfortunately, this could still not handle the volume of water. I told them they needed to consult an an engineer or landscape architect. I also suggested that we perhaps add another french drain. This was turned down. At the time of the job I told the clients transplants were not warranted. We planted them high enough, but the continuous drainage problems flooded the beds. The trees sank. I returned again and said the reason for their stuggles was the excessive water. They agreed and I left with no complaints. The hardscaping we did for the client amounted to a mulched path with metal edging with one side of a portion of the path accented by small cane river rock. The client complimented us on the look. The mulch in the path did not wash away. Later, the client complained you couldn't walk barefoot on the mulch and asked for another kind. She originally agreed to the mulch we used, so I declined the request to replace the mulch. The client hand-picked what drip emitters they wanted to use for the irrigation. We replaced them free of charge. They were unhappy the drip irrigation line was showing through the mulch. We re-mulched and hid the line. Over time drip line will get exposed due to rain, mulch decomposition and excessive wash. This is what has happened. All the plants -- most of which the client picked -- were planted in correct locations for sun and shade. Excessive moisture killed them, nothing else. Finally, we do not have our own greenhouse. We buy local, nursery stock and it is excellent quality. So after replacing dead plants the first time in accordance with our warranty, I told the client I would not replace them again free of charge until the drainage situation was rectified. That will take neighbors' cooperation in attaching downspout pipes and a site engineer to develop a very comprehensive plan. At a cost of more than $2,000 in plant replacements and multiple hours of additional labor, we tried to rectify this client's situation to the best of our ability. We even mowed the lawn complimentary. Our proven track record on Angie's List is important to us, and we work hard to give every one of our clients the best in service. We did so here, too. Loved working with Brian and you will too. He showed up at the appointment time to go over my problems in person. Then we communicated over email which is so convenient for me. He made recommendations to solve my problems and will quote work in stages so you can do the landscaping step by step as your budget allows. This is how I approached my work in the backyard. Best of all he was at the jobs each time he sent his crew and I was able to speak to him to be sure we were on the same page. I have had other landscape companies and I see the owner at the initial quote and never face to face during the work or after. My husband is very picky with any work that contractors do at our home and he is so happy sitting on our deck and looking at our backyard now. Brian the grass is growing!
Description of Work: Cut down small trees along property line, Trim up trees to allow light into yard and haul away all dedris. Attach downspout drain to existing undergrown drain.Construct dry stack stone wall (2 tons of stone) around deck. So glad these clients were happy with our work! The back yard had a claustrophobic feel because the wooded rear of the property had a low profile that reached toward their beautiful deck and blotted out the sun and view of the woods. After we pruned the trees up and let in light, it opened up an entire new world. Member had some great ideas to help accentuate the backyard like a small dry stack retaining wall. We hope to do more work for these great clients again!

I had called Brian several years before; but we ended up waiting to do our landscaping. Once we added a deck and porch we called back and had new plans drawn up. Brian and his team were very creative in picking out plants that were unique and would give four seasons of interest. His team was timely and professional in all ways. He came back to address several small concerns that came up. Our yard is easily one of the best in our neighborhood. It has color, interest and variety. We are looking forward to seeing things as they come back to life after such a long winter.

Brian was terrific to work with and we enjoyed his honesty and work ethic. He kept us totally informed and called whenever he could not arrive at the specific time expected. Our drainage problems got solved and our yard is absolutely gorgeous.
Description of Work: We had a pond and waterfall that was leaking, grading that was forcing water onto our deck and into our crawlspace, a wall that was preventing water from leaving the patio and bushes that were blocking our view of the traffic. We immediately liked Brian's solutions to getting the water away from the house and deck and knew that the waterfall and pond would be a more complicated issue, as we didn't know exactly where it was leaking. In addition, our pond had been constructed in an unorthodox manner with some equipment that wasn't working the greatest. As he started to work, it became apparent that in order to do the job properly, the entire thing would need to be torn out, which also meant that we would lose a lot of our landscaping. Hoaglandscape tore it out, redesigned and rebuilt it and then landscaped the whole thing anew. In addition, a dry creek bed was constructed to move water off of the deck and out of the yard. We ended up tearing out the stone wall, and installing a stacked-stone wall that allows the water to drain off the deck. It also unified the look, as the stacked stone was continued on to act as an edging to the patio. Bushes were torn out of the front and lower varieties installed, so that we won't have the same problems in a few years.

The owner got a relative to do the work and it wasn't done properly. I think the person who did the job was inexperienced. I had them come back and redo it, and they still couldn't do it. They brought some more rock out and tried to rebuild it and they said that's as much as they were willing to do. I paid for the extra material and added a corner when they came to rebuild the wall. However, we were not satisfied with the work and I finally rebuilt the wall myself. They did not respond professionally to me. The previous job that the owner had done for us was great but the crew was different.

When the wall was first completed, the client expressed that she wanted to make some changes, specifically adding to the end of the wall so it curved around some stepping stones. I told her we would be glad to come back out and do this. The client was not home when we did the addition. We added $100 worth of stone and she was not billed extra for that or the labor/transportation. After our return visit the client did not give us feedback of any kind. It's been almost a year ago since the project was done and we never received a complaint. The wall received my personal inspection and it was completed exactly to the specs of the contract and looked great. It is unfortunate the client did not give us feedback.

This was by far the best experience my wife and I have ever had with not only a landscaper, but with any contractor ever. He not only was upfront with everything but he did what he said he was going to do. he even made a follow-up call to tweak a couple different things. I called out brian to give me an estimate he had the estimate within 1 business day. we had over 8 landscapers try to give us pricing and quotes some were outrageous and some were way to cheap and inexperienced. Brian had the best price with the best ideas. His crew came out and worked extremely hard. I work from home a lot and it was easy to see that these guys put a lot of hard work into their jobs. Brian was here a lot also helping, not just handing it off. Look above at what the services they performed and did all of those services in a very professional and timely fashion. they always cleaned up after themselves including my driveway, back areas, and even weed eated my backyard where it needed it! I have attached some pictures in which I hope they come through but anyone is welcome to contact Brian and have them come see my place and see the amazing work they did. Angies list only lets me put 4 pictures on here or else I would have taken one at every angle of the property. My wife and I can actually enjoy our backyard now!
Description of Work: They created a dry creekbed to solve water drainage issues in natural area, they piped all my downspouts underground and extended the pipe outside of the property, created tons of beds, spread and raked in new mulch in new beds front and back yard, laid down weed fabric underneath the dry creek bed, created another dry creek bed to the side of the property to flow into the larger creek bed to solve water issues on the right side of our property, removed all debris and trash out of the natural area, sprayed entire natural area for weeds (twice), removed a couple tree stumps, removed some dead trees, hauled away trash, removed a dead tree in the front yard, dry creek bed consists of really nice cane river rock and red river rock and big boulders, also put nice dirt down and seeded the yard where they piped all the drains.

Brian was very responsive when we reached out to him for ideas. We used Hoaglandscape two years ago and the service and professionalism continue to be top notch. Bid was received quickly, work schedule and a solid team arrived right as planed. This was a multi day job and the Hoaglandscape team left our home clean and organized each day checking with us before leaving. Everyone working our site was a pleasure to interact with and you could tell they put their all into quality product. WELL DONE HOAGLANDSCAPE TEAM! We look forward to a continued partnership.
Description of Work: Pavers on side of driveway. Two Slate patio areas for grill and fire Pit locations. French drains for back and side of house. Plant relocation and new shrub and plant landscaping. Trenched all bedding areas and applied ample mulch making the exterior of our home look updated and fresh.

We had bought a new house, and they essentially did all of our landscaping on a barren lot. They created a water fall and flower groves, they created a walking path and did lots of different plants and trees.
Description of Work: They came out to our home and did a big project on our yard.

THIS JOB WAS AMONG OUR BEST, THANKS IN LARGE PART TO THE CLIENTS COOPERATION AND COMMUNICATION. IT WAS DONE IN THE BRUTAL HEAT OF SUMMER WITH NO SHADE, AND THE MEMBERS HAD FRESH SUPPLIES EVERY DAY OF GATORADE AND WATER. I TOLD THEM WE WOULD SUPPLY OUR OWN, BUT THEY INSISTED. WE HAVE SINCE RETURNED FOR OTHER PROJECTS AND LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING A LONG RELATIONSHIP WITH THESE GREAT PEOPLE!

I was very impressed with this company and look forward to using their services again. Brian did a great job in designing a landscape plan for my front yard. He has a hardworking crew that left my yard in great condition. When it is time to landscape my backyard, I will be using this same company again.
