This builder was contracted in Feb. 2011 to build a custom home for me. The estimated date of completion was Oct. 2011. During this time, the General Contractor (GC) began working on his own home. The GC did not oversee his subcontractors on our job and as a result, many mistakes were made and many things had to be redone. In August 2011, the progress on the house slowed significantly. In October, the GC told us we would be "surprised at how quickly things would progress." They did pick up. On Nov. 17 the builder requested a $32,000 draw from the bank for work completed. We had concerns, again, after the draw and attempted to contact the builder by phone. He did not return our calls. On December 5, we received a phone call from his assistant that the GC was "sick." On Dec. 9, the assistant, customer liason and secretary all resigned from his company. On Dec. 10, a lien was filed on our property by one of the subcontractors for non-payment. Between Dec. 12 and Dec. 15, we learned that approximately $50,000 had not been paid to the subcontractors working on our home. We had requested and received the draws from the bank and paid the GC but the GC did not pay our subs for the work done on our job.
