This is an exemplary service. We were impressed fromm beginning to end, including when the estimator and project manager (Aaron -- a true gem) took off his shoes as soon as he entered the front door. This was a huge project, and it went more smoothly than one could ever expect. The workers were friendly, responsive and competent. All aspects of the job were handled with professionalism and excellent attention to detail. Highly recommended.

I called Paint Force and made an appointment for an estimate. Aaron came out (1/2 hour late though he called an said he was running behind) and looked at the doors. I told him that I wanted them removed, sanded and painted while they were laying flat. He assured me that would not be a problem. I received his estimate after a few days which seemed reasonable. I questioned him about the effectiveness of one coat coverage in his estimate and he assured me that the preprimed doors would only need one coat since the Benjamin Moore ($56.00/gallon) paint had the primer inside. So, he gave me an estimate for one coat coverage. I also questioned him about the sanding which I couldn't find in his estimate. He said it was there and would be done. The day David the painter came out (1/2 hour late he also called) he was absolutely clueless as to what he was supposed to do. He did not know he was supposed to sand the doors or take them down. I called Aaron in a panic because I was worried if he even knew how to paint. Aaron assured me he was an excellent painter and that he only just received his instructions. David did not know how to remove bifold doors, luckily I was there to show him. He took the door outside and was going to put on the wet grass, I stopped him and asked him to put something under it, which he did. He removed the bifold doors, lined them up outside, and while he was painting a wind came and knocked them down like dominoes. I moved him and the doors into the carport and fashioned shims under them for stabilization. He painted most of the bifold doors when I came back and noticed that the white paint was not covering in one coat as promised. He said "white almost never covers in one coat". He could not take off the slab doors because they were solid core and very heavy so he painted them where they hung. He spent the whole day painting. He kept adding touch ups to try to cover the shadows that showed through the paint. I called Aaron at the end of the day and told him that his one coat paint did not do the job. He wanted to come out and see for himself, which he did the next day. He took pictures and discussed with my husband what the cost for two coats would be. He left and went to Benjamin Moore to resolve the issue with the paint. My husband and I decided we would not pay for a second coat if that's all they offered. When Aaron called my husband told him this and he said there would be no charge. Three of them came out (40 minutes late again they called) to put on the second coat. I gave them a gallon of the Lowes Kitchen and Bath paint to use. No doors were removed. It took them about an hour and a half. We paid them and they left. I am not pleased with the quality of the painting which is still deficient in some areas. In an effort to make the paint cover in one coat or two they touched up over drying paint that was tacky and it left a grainy appearence on the doors. They also used short strokes instead of long even strokes. This ensures that you can see wherever they started and stopped painting on the doors. I hired painters to do a job I didn't want to do myself. Now, I am looking at sanding down all of the doors to the bare wood, priming, and painting (2 coats). Plus, I am out $338.00. Even though Aaron was very nice, and they were accomodating, I cannot recommend them.

Response from Paint Force
Proof that "No good deed goes unpunished", The proposal for painting the doors was for "1" coat. We recommended the customer use Benjamin Moore "Aura" paint. Benjamin Moore has stated that "Aura" is the finest paint they have ever made. We thought the paint would cover in one coat and that by using this paint, the customer would save by not having to do 2 coats. When the paint did not cover in one coat, my estimator gave her the price for a second coat. When the customer did not want to pay for the second coat, we decided to provide the second coat at NO cost to her. I suppose it's much easier to go to Angie's List and talk about and post the problem rather than call the owner and discuss a solution. As a result of this unfortunate experience the customer has had, we are now putting into the contract notes the following: "Please Note: The price of this contract is based upon the specified number of coats for the specified substrates as contained herein. PaintForce, Inc. is not responsible should there be insufficient coverage after applying the specified number of coats. Any situation, whereby there is additional work outside of this contract, shall require a change order and agreed upon by both parties". Additionally, she never wanted to pay for a second coat, and now she is ready to sand down to bare wood and do a 3 coat process? That process is NOT necessary. As a professional painting contractor, and the owner of PaintForce, Inc., I would be willing to come and personally inspect the doors. If any of the doors are not painted to industry standards as prescribed by the PDCA (Painting & Decorating Contractors of America), I will gladly repaint any door or doors as it pertains to the original proposal, and ensure that they are painted to industry standards. But, there is always a but, the customer must agree to pay me for the 2 coat price which I feel is more than fair. I am Jeff Minor, the owner of PaintForce, and can be reached at office 828.258.2040 or my cell is 828.776.1678.

Project went very well. Because the nearest franchise was some distance away and the job was relatively small....the owner asked me to email him a photo of the areas that needed painting. I sent a photo along with square footage and he provided an estimate based on this. We agreed on the price and the work was completed in a prompt manner.
Description of Work: I was painting my house myself. There were a couple of areas that were so high that I did not want to attempt. I called PaintForce and they performed the work.

They are a local company. From the estimate they gave me, they were thorough, detailed and it was excellent. It was a fine line and they would have been our second choice. Our contact with them both with the estimator and the written estimate was excellent. The price they quoted us was approximately $2,000. The thing that stood out about them is that they had such an over detailed estimate. It listed every single item on each side of the house, which was a thorough estimate and led me to believe that their work would be thorough as well. They got back to me within days with the estimate.
Description of Work: Paint Force came out in the first week of July and gave us an estimate for interior painting.

When the screen installers got there, they pointed out many areas where the spray had missed the surfaces that would be covered by the screen. They declined to install the screen until the staining was finished and the wood surfaces were adequately stained. I called the painter back and pointed out the areas that had been missed. He told me that one of the areas "didn't need to be stained because the screen frame would cover it". I told him the screen installers specifically said that it did need to be stained, even under the frame. The area still wasn't stained even after I pointed it out to the painter. The painter applied two coats of translucent stain to the porch. I learned too late, after they were finished, that the directions on the stain container and the manufacturer's web site say to apply ONE COAT ONLY of the translucent stain. The porch now looks like it was painted or stained with a solid finish stain. I told the painter I was not satisfied with the finished look. He told me that I shouldn't have chosen translucent stain and "it is covered solid now". I called the sales rep back to the house and told him I was not satisfied with the result. He told me there was nothing they could do. He said that he considered me an "easy sale" because I had agreed to two coats of stain and therefore, the end result was my fault. I told him I had relied on his company's expertise in applying stain and gone with their recommendation. He offered, for an ADDITIONAL fee, to have the same painter come out and strip the stain off the floor of the porch. I told him I didn't want the painter to do any more work on my house and I was not paying any more to have them fix the problem. The salesman said he was truly, deeply, personally sorry, but there was nothing they could do. I'm left with a new screened porch with a terrible looking paint job. In addition to the missed areas, there was overspray on the gutter, and sloppy edges. I don't think this company was interested in doing a professional job. If I can figure out how to add pictures to this report, I will. Mr. Minor, the president of PaintForce, left several phone messages for me saying that he wanted to talk to me about my review on Angie's List. He said that the review was "unfair" and he would send Cabot stain representatives to look at my porch. His voice sounded very angry in the messages. When I called him back to explain why I thought only one coat of stain should have been applied, he interrupted and lectured me on why he felt that PaintForce was not at fault. He never offered to pay to restain my deck. I asked him to please stop calling me. I sent a check for the full amount of the remainder of the contract cost, primarily to end all communication with him. I've never been treated in such a disrespectful manner by a service provider.
Description of Work: Paintforce agreed to powerwash, stain, and paint the newly constructed screened porch at my house. My building contractor recommended a specific brand of stain for the new lumber. I chose translucent oil based stain. Siding was to be painted to match the existing color of the house. The salesman seemed very knowledgeable and eager to do a good job. After powerwashing was complete, he checked with the manufacturer used a moisture meter to check and see if the new wood was dry enough to stain (it was). He told me that PaintForce always recommended applying two coats of finish for extra protection. I agreed, thinking that these guys knew what they were doing. The chief painter on the team of three sprayed the stain on the porch. The contractors who built the porch were ready to come back and install the screen in a couple of days, so the painter said that the outer surfaces were sufficiently coated and ready to have the screen installed. He would come back to paint the siding and other areas after the screen was installed.

Response from Paint Force
After reading the report from, I was completely outraged. How could we go from 28 A’s and 2 B’s from the 5 jobs that we completed for Angie’s List customers, to the report she gave? After speaking with Aaron (Estimator) and Donnie (Project Manager), it became evident that she did not speak the truth with some of her assertions, or did not tell the full story. I have been serving the Asheville community for the last 10 years. In that time I have worked on very high profile and prestigious projects. We were featured in Southern Accents Magazine, we painted the HGTV Dream Home in Lake Lure, and we received a National Award from our trade association, the PDCA (Painting & Decorating Contractors of America). So when a customer rates their experience so negatively, you can bet that I am not pleased and take this matter very seriously! Here are the undisputable facts: In her report, she states that she chose a translucent stain. That is a false statement. She chose a semi-transparent stain from the Cabot Stain Company. This fact cannot be disputed because she also chose the color, dune gray, and that color is not available in a translucent finish. She also references many times in her report that we used a translucent stain. We did NOT use a translucent stain. We used a semi transparent stain, and that was her choice NOT ours. In her third sentence under member comments, she stated that we always recommended two coats for extra protection. The truth is that when my estimator Aaron showed up to look at the job, she informed him that her contractor recommended a Cabot oil based stain and that she wanted 2 coats. She also asserts that the stain container label and the manufacturers website say “to apply one coat only of the translucent stain”. Again, she chose a semi transparent stain, NOT a translucent stain. If you look at the product data sheet for the Cabot semi transparent stain, it CLEARLY STATES THAT TWO COATS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR NEW WOOD FOR MAXIMUM DURABILITY. I reiterate the fact, that she specified she wanted two coats. She also asserts that she was not satisfied and called my sales rep and that “after” speaking with Aaron, he considered her an easy sale. That too is false. When my estimator showed up to give the estimate, she said she wanted Cabot oil stain and she wanted two coats. Aaron said “well that makes it easy”, as she already knew what she wanted. She also states that she is left with a terrible paint job. I have left two messages with Miss Carpenter informing her that I would like to have the Cabot sales rep come to inspect the job. I have also informed her that if the Cabot sales rep finds that we have not applied the product properly, I will gladly pay to restain the deck where necessary. I am VERY confident that we have applied the product properly. As for the small bit of overspray, I will gladly clean this. In closing, the member still owes PaintForce, Inc. $865.00 per our signed contract. It is my professional opinion that the color and finish that she chose, and was recommended by “HER” contractor, did not look the way she expected it to look. Therefore, she is placing the blame on us. It is my hope that after she reviews the facts, she will realize that PaintForce is not to blame.

01/27/2010 Left a voice mail message with Jeff Minor owner of Paint Force inquiring about having him come out and give me an estimate on painting and staining the exterior of my home. He promptly returned my call early am on the 28th. He said he would have his estimator call me in the next few hours. His estimator Arron called me a couple hours later and arranged to come by after 3pm. The estimator arrived he looked at my residence an stated he would have to return at later date to measure the job. 28 days later no calls from Paint force. No interest means no job.

The homeowner called to have an estimate done for the exterior of his home. On the day we showed up to do the estimate, there was MAJOR snow and that made it impossible to do an estimate. We told the homeowner we would come back at a later date. We knew of course, that it was the middle of winter, and that painting couldn't happen until spring. We should have done a better job of communicating with him, but if he needed the estimate sooner, he certainly could have called us.

Was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from Jeff within 10 minutes of posting an online request for an estimate to repaint the exterior of my home. I mentioned that I found him on Angie's List and we agreed on a home visit by one of his employees three days later (my choice) at a time convenient to him. Unfortunately, the employee did not show nor did I receive a call from anyone at Paint Force to cancel or reschedule. No show equals no business.

After requesting a quote and they were able to come out in prompt fashion. My questions were answered in an honest and forthright fashion. The quote contained the necessary detail and proved to be competitive. Communication was both by phone and email. Several requests for updates and even a follow up visit were handled in friendly and expedient manner. Paint force was willing to work with me to accommodate specific requests, like inserting the aluminum backing behind the siding seams on the north face of the house. We agreed on a general start time frame of either a Friday or the following Monday. I was called Thursday prior and we agreed to a Monday morning start of 8:30/9. The team arrived on time, we confirmed the details of the job, and they got to work power washing the decks. We ended up having some issues with the water flow, since they were pulling through the whole house filter. They were pleasant about this and after clearing the filter a few times - we moved the hose to the pump head and this resolved the issue. The decks looked awesome after they finished - the guys did a really thorough job. The painting went in similar fashion. Any large areas were taped and sprayed. The first coat was laid on fairly heavy and one coat may have actually served (the proposal broke out pricing for a single and double coat). Some sections that were more complicated or to onerous to tape up, were brushed. The team did a great job at cut in. Any time there were questions, they asked, presented options as well as pros and cons. The job took about 5 days, with the same core folks there most of the time, but crew ranged in size as appropriate. They checked the start time for the next day and always showed up promptly. I should also note, they left the job site clean every day - the ladders were neatly stacked, paint put back, and tools and sprayers assembled in an orderly fashion. They also took care to cover anything that might get over spray - including plants, furniture, yard items. At the end of the job, they walked me around and we only found one very minor spot to touch up, which was dealt with immediately. Payment was only expected when I was satisfied. The job looks awesome - I am super impressed with the quality of work they delivered. Overall - Paint Force provided a solid, competitive quote. Delivered timely response and showed willingness to work with me to accommodate specific requests. Provided a great team, pleasant to work with, thorough, professional, and cleaned up after themselves everyday. Arrived when they said they would. Followed up responsively to both email and voice mail. Delivered a gorgeous finished product.
Description of Work: The entire house was painted with two coats of paint using different colors between the daylight basement and the upper stories. The trim was included and white stain was used. Caulk was refreshed as needed and aluminum backing was cut and inserted behind the siding seams on the north face. In addition the decks were power washed. Paint was provided directly from Cabot in warranty for issues with the previous coating.

It went well. Had to reschedule (mutually agreed on) to begin 3 days later than original agreed-to date. The painters assigned, led by Eldridge Rawls, were courteous, efficient, interested in pleasing, and completed the job in three days. I later found a couple of spots that were missed, and one where some paint needed cleaning off. I contacted Eldridge and he came back and fixed everything to my satisfaction.
