Greg Peterson was very responsive and professional. Our home is an unusual home - modern in design, but 30+ years old with lots of windows, slate, and concrete, which made the mitigation plan not as straight forward as it might be in a more traditional home. Greg did a great job of identifying the source of the problem, then installing a system that did not interfere with the living spaces (visibly or audibly).

Greg is excellent at explaining radon testing, the pros and cons of alternative measurements and possible radon remediation. He lays out the facts, and isn't hard sell. As a result I felt very comfortable with his ethics and recommendations. Since we were beneath the threshold of 4.0 pCi/l, we elected not to take any additional actions. Based on my experience, I highly recommend Meriidian.

 + -1 moreI know Greg doesn't need another glowing recommendation but I really wanted the rest of the people reading reviews to know something about Greg and Meridian Home Inspections. I called him on a Tuesday and left a message telling him that I would like to contract his business to perform an inspection on a prospective house. He called me later that day from outside of the USA. He was on vacation with his family and decided to use Skype and give me a call letting me know that he would like to start on the project once he returned from vacation. That type of dedication and professionalism in this day and age is so difficult to find and Greg has it. There is no need to look for other home inspectors if you live within 50 miles of Asheville. Call Meridian and Greg and you will be as pleased as we are.
Description of Work: Greg performed a complete Home Inspection on a 2004 home of approx 3000sqft. He went from squirming in the crawlspace to climbing on top of the roof to get every nook and cranny of the house properly inspected.

SHE WAS AGHAST THAT THE INSPECTION WAS TO TAKE 3 HOURS AND AFTER SOME RESISTANCE, AGREED TO LET GREG, MY SON, AND I IN TO CHECK OUT HER HOUSE. GREG STARTED FROM THE ATTIC AND WORKED HIS WAY DOWN WHILE THE HOMEOWNER AND I SPOKE FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS BEFORE WE DISENGAGED AND MILLED AROUND THE HOME WITH GREG OFF AND ON. HE FULLY NOTATED ALL DEFICIENCIES AND INCLUDED BOTH MINOR REPAIR RECOMMENDATIONS TO OBVIOUS DEFICIENCIES. AFTER THE INSPECTION WAS OVER, WE STOOD AROUND A WHILE TALKING TO THE HOMEOWNER IN A VERY CORDIAL MANNER. GREG WAS THE CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL THE ENTIRE TIME.
Description of Work: FULL HOUSE INSPECTION PRIOR TO PURCHASE. GOOD JOB...SPENT A GOOD THREE PLUS HOURS. VERY THOROUGH AND COURTEOUS WITH HOME OWNER WHO WAS ON SITE THE ENTIRE TIME. After providing an accurate estimate, Greg started installing a radon mitigation system by setting up three radon detectors throughout my house to get a baseline assessment and determine where the highest levels were. Upon returning the following morning, we reviewed the results and Greg explained in detail his plan to reduce my radon levels. Greg immediately got to work! As I checked in occasionally, I noticed how methodical and deliberate Greg is with his work. Also, Greg's attention to detail was obvious in the finished project, as he is truly a craftsman. By the early evening, Greg's work was completed and he reviewed the specifics before leaving. He also left two radon detectors to confirm that his efforts were effective and the radon was being vented to the outdoors. After reviewing the favorable results, Greg concluded that there were a couple places that could benefit from sealing the foundation to further improve the results. After sealing the places (each the result of the previous homeowner's addition), Greg left another radon detector to perform the final 48 hour test. Upon reviewing the results, each hour was far better than Greg had guaranteed in his proposal and Greg asked if I had any questions. Although it has been less than two weeks, the system is working flawsley and I am extremely pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Install and start-up radon mitigation system to reduce exorbently high radon levels in my family's home. This was a relatively difficult installation, since the home has a couple different additions that needed to be vented and three levels to route the large pipe through.

 + -1 moreWhat stood out about Meridian Home Inspection Service is that Greg Peterson, owner, did everything that he promised. When we first contacted him, he said that he would gladly spend the time that we needed for him to explain everything he was doing and that he might discover. And sure enough, Greg did. He calmly and accurately explained things in layman's terms. He pointed out in the basement, for example, some empty spaces adjacent to the chimney that if left the way they were, would act as air channels if that area was to catch on fire, and thus, spread more rapidly. His knowledge of various building systems was extensive and valuable. The simplest way to see for yourself how Meridian Home Inspections operates is to view its website ( http://meridianhomeinspection.com/home/home-3.html ). There you can see an detailed example of what your house's inspection report would look like. The site also lists the firm's fees, which are based on square footage and age. And believe me, whatever Greg finds will also find its way onto your report. So having this report will help you even years later as you review what may need to be addressed as time goes on. The report is invaluable. So spend some time looking over Meridian's website. It's worth it! Without a doubt my wife and I would hire Meridian Home Inspections on any house we consider buying down the road! Greg delivers everything he promises!
Description of Work: We hired Meridian Home Inspection Service to inspect a 44-year old house that our son was considering purchasing. He also had a radon test done. We were promised a comprehensive report detailing what he inspected in the various systems (electrical, structural, heating, plumbing, roof, etc.) in addition to him telling us things as he inspected different items. And sure enough, within 48 hours my son had the report, complete with close-up color photos that illustrated what Greg was talking about in the report. Greg was on time, in fact, arrived a few minutes early and went right to work. He again told us that he would stay after his inspection was finished to answer any questions or concerns we had. He kept his word, as he was there more than three hours. Little escaped his scrutiny, as he found small but significant items that might need addressing, either then or in later years (he made notes in his report to keep an eye on these things). Greg also did a radon test. When the test period was over, he provided my son a hour-by-hour printout of specific radon gas readings. In addition, he provided information that detailed what the readings meant, as well as a plan of action.

I called Meridian on 6/4/12 and Greg promptly returned my call. He came to my house the next day and replaced a defective 15 year-old radon removal fan. He tested my slab in two places to determine the effectiveness of the new fan. He also discovered a hole in the concrete slab which had likely been a source of above normal radon readings. The plumbing hole should have been sealed when the system was installed by another contractor 15 years earlier. He sealed the hole and left a radon monitor for two days. The monitor indicated that my radon levels were now in a safe range. Greg was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I strongly recommend him for radon system installation or repair.
Description of Work: Defective attic radon removal fan was replaced, basement was surveyed for effectiveness of system, hole in slab was discovered and sealed, basement was monitored for two days for radon.

. Greg Peterson is owner/operator of Meridian Home Inspection Radon Testing and Mitigation. I discovered elevated Radon levels in our basement and confirmed the elevated levels as recommended by state and federal guidelines. After researching radonremediation on line I discovered Meridian Radon Mitigation services received highest recommendations. I met with Greg, who was very well informed and experienced in radon mitigation. He gave me a price which was all inclusive and a plan for radon removal which was minimally disruptive to my home and was completed in a timely fashion in one day. The work was professional and well done and with no hidden costs. He was prompt and arrived at the scheduled time, cleanup was complete and we are well pleased with his services. Post mediation testing showed complete elimination of radon. We were extremely pleased with his work and would strongly recommend him for radon control problems
Description of Work: Radon levels were found to be elevated in our basement. Greg and his assistant drilled 2 5 inch holes in our basement floor and diverted the radon through 5 inch PCV pipes through our garage wall and then through the attic of the garage with a suction fan system installed in the attic. The basement walls and cracks were sealed and the pipes were finsihed at the ceiling and through the walls with covers leaving a finished appearance. The installation and wiring were done in one day. A monitor was leftin the basement to measure for residual radon post completion for 72 hours. No radon was found.

 + -1 moreGreg arrived right on time at 9:00am and proceeded to do a thorough inspection of the house, both inside and out. I was present for most of the inspection and he answered all my questions. In fact, he explained some advanced features of the HVAC system that I had never seen before. He left his equipment to measure the radon which he came back and collected three days later (on a Saturday). He provided the report for the inspection by 5:30pm on afternoon that it was done. The radon report was provided within hours of when he collected his equipment.

Greg gave a written estimate then once work started, he found an unforseen problem with sub-slab surface. He needed to install a larger than expected system but didn't change the original estimate. Work was very professional. Final system looked very good and greatly reduced radon level. He guaranteed his work and left a sophisticated monitoring device in place for several days to ensure system worked as planned before taking payment. I would highly recommend Greg at Meridian Home Inspection for any type of work.

We were very pleased with Greg's professionalism and depth of knowledge about radon mitigation. He continually reported back to us as to what the next step would be and showed up when he said he would. He was willing to work with us even though we had already purchased our fan which some probably would not. He was always looking at ways we could keep the costs down and always offered options. I highly recommend Greg to anyone who is concerned about radon in their home. We will certainly call him again for radon mitigation services.
Description of Work: Greg set up radon monitors and found our home to well exceed the normal limits. As we already had the rough in piping put in our home when it was built we asked him to go ahead and install a fan that we had already purchased. Radon levels were still high so he came back and relocated the pipe to another location which brought the readings below the normal level.

 + -1 moreI was very pleased with the service I received from Greg. I was traveling from out of state and had to schedule the inspection on short notice, and within a very limited window of time. Greg was accommodating from a scheduling perspective, and made it easy. He arrived on time, and went through the house from top to bottom ... checking all kinds of things that I never would have considered. He spent about four hours going through the property. I especially appreciated the fact that he took the time to talk me through the major issues, and patiently answered my many questions. He also talked about what was right with the property, which was helpful when deciding whether I really wanted to take it on. A couple days after the inspection, he provided us with a detailed 75 page report, replete with pictures to support all of his findings. Needless to say, the report was a bit disheartening, as it focused on everything wrong with the property. Fortunately, the conversations I had with Greg on the day of the inspection helped me to put it in perspective. Nearly a month later, I dropped him an email asking his opinion regarding potential renovations. He was kind enough to give me his thoughts, despite it being outside of the scope of the inspection. Greg seems like a nice, honest guy. I would absolutely use him again if this place doesn't come through.
