Great. A nail had come out or rusted out. Also, recommended that we have a roof vent along to ridge of the roof which we did.

Very well. I was short on time and was scheduled to have work done within the time frame I needed. The worker kept in touch with me as to any delays from another job he was working on. He was professional, cleaned up all debris. I would hire this company again for other roofing repairs.

Very well. We were not present when the work was done, but, at our request, photos were taken and sent to us online. The cleanup was thorough.

Great! My new gutters were up and the old ones were hauled off within just a couple of weeks. The gutters look marvelous and it's great to be back in the dry!

It didn't, I never heard back from them

It went very well. The roof looks great. They cleaned up well and, considering the size of the job and amount of debris they had to fling off of a 2-3 story house, with very little damage to plants and shrubs. (And I have a lot of plants and shrubs. They actually built a plywood tepee over some of my shrubs and plants to avoid hurting them.) I spoke mainly with Jesse, Tina, Russell, and John Paul. They were very responsive, easy to work with and easy to communicate with. They are what all housing contractors should strive to be.

It went very well. They did the job they said they would do.

Jesse was on time - although the company is so busy that we waited over 3 months for an appointment- pleasant, informative, familiar with tiled roofs and thorough. Many roofing companies we called did not want to tackle "an attempted fix" - that is, the old sky light leaked and now the new sky light still leaked and a couple of attempts at fixing it had failed. Jesse took off a wide circle of the heavy, concrete tiles around the sky light and spent time looking at the situation to be sure there were not multiple causes for the leak. We had had an infra red study done to prove that the leak was not coming from higher up on the roof but right at the sky light. Jesse saw that the rain channels were damaged and directing water into the sky light well- when the tiles had been replaced. The flashing was replaced and extended. The tiles were replaced and Jesse took the time to tell us exactly what he had done and why. McClung roofing does NOT guarantee roof repairs - just roof replacements, but Jesse promised us that he would come back promptly if there was a further issue - and he did. He needed to come back and seal the sky light glass. The sky light had been moved and played with so much that the seal was damaged. Part of the $1,000 fee was for a new flashing kit but still the charge for approx 2 hrs of work seemed high. However we had spent far more than that on replacing and repairing this sky light; so if this fix works it will be the best money we ever spent.

We decided to use John McClung Roofing based on a friend's recommendation and their competitive pricing. Plus they have decent reviews on Angie's List. After signing their contract we were told that it would be about 5 weeks before they could get to our house. They called at 7PM one night and said they would be over in the morning to start. At that time we had not been provided with any color options for the shingles and had to scramble and pick out a color from the Certainteed website. A crew showed up and did a quick job of tearing off and replacing the shingles. They did a pro job with the installation and the roof looks good. They could have done a better job when removing the existing shingles and clean up. They parked their dump trailer in the driveway very close to white garage doors that are only about two years old. The doors now have many scratches, scraps, and black markings from the shingles hitting them. Several places where the vinyl siding wraps the house were also dented and marked. After they were finished I walked around in our driveway (which is concrete slab) and picked up 20ish nails. When their guy showed up to collect payment, I showed him the damage to the siding and asked him about using the coupon for $100 Home Depot gift card that they are advertising on the angieslist.com website that comes with paying for a job over $3000. He assured me that these would be taken care of. It has been about 9 weeks now since we paid for service and we have not yet received any follow up communication from John McClung Roofing staff.

Reliable, professional, and completed the work on time. Stayed in contact while waiting for time to complete. Fixed the leak that another contractor could not. Would call again if needed.

So for so good. We have had some heavy, wind-driven rains since the repair. I haven't had any leaking during or after those events. I am hopeful that my problem is at last solved. McClung was recommended highly by Angie's List and by my insurance agent. I was very pleased with the initial visit. The other 2 companies that came out wanted to redo 3 mistakes made by the previous company, and Randall from McClung wanted to redo 4. Even though this meant I would be spending more money, what he said made sense to me and I wanted this taken care of once and for all, so I decided to go with him. He seemed to know more than anyone else about how to flash a stone chimney. Once they decided to start the job (which was a full 2 months after I signed the contract--they are very busy) it went smoothly and well. They started about 8:30am and finished about 5pm. I'm a female senior citizen so I'm not about to go up on the roof and look the job over. But from the ground I could see that the area around the bottom of the chimney was visibly changed. For the first time in 3 years, it looked to me like chimney flashing should look. The crew obligingly took my suggestion that we should run my hose up on the roof and see if we could see any water coming into the attic. Fingers crossed--I think they did a good job!

Addendum: Regarding the situation with the gutter installation discussed below, two days after this review was posted, a gutter crew came to the house and completed the cleanout of debris and installation of the box gutter and gutter guards. They presented me with an invoice showing that the gutter job had been done at no cost and offered an apology on behalf of the gutter supervisor. While the facts as I have related them are true, I must add that ultimately the company did respond to my concerns, made the situation right and completed the job. This speaks to their professionalism and their concern for customer satisfaction. My thanks to them. OK, here's the deal. The contract was for roof replacement, installation of gutters and installation of gutter guards. The house is an A-frame with parts that have a very steep pitch, and a part that has a more normal pitch. The scheduler kept calling a wrong number, and as a result, on the day of installation, called at 8 AM to give me thirty minutes' warning that the roofing crew was on its way. I have total respect for that crew. They were all locals and they had a positive attitude. No swearing was allowed despite the difficulty of the job. There were a few details left to be worked out at the end of the job, but those were promptly corrected. They left the site cleaner than it was when they arrived. Great looking new roof, with a lifetime guarantee, they are great. I recommend the roofing department of John McClung without reservation. However, there were some difficulties. One is that half an hour after the crew pulled out, I got a call asking to "negotiate" an extra $1200 in the price because there had been more labor cost than they anticipated and they had to use longer nails. I could understand an upcharge if there had been undiscovered rot or they had to replace decking, something like that, but this was basically a matter of they didn't estimate correctly and they wanted to make it up at the end, without warning me that this was coming. We managed to settle for a lesser amount but if you are concerned that the contract price might not end up being the actual price, you'd be right to worry. Some of the other roofing companies that I interviewed had clauses in their contracts that defined when an upcharge would be added, but this one did not. So buyer beware. But the worst part of the story is the gutter job. The roof was completed on October 28 and the gutters were to come shortly afterward. The first install date was to be November 2, but they didn't show. Afterward a series of no shows, calls offering excuses and explanations, rescheduling and more no shows. On November 14 (a Saturday) they showed up and put up most of the gutters and downspouts but no gutter guards. They were going to come the following Monday to finish, but again, no show. I called asking what was going on and was assured I would receive a call from the gutter supervisor, but he never called. Thanksgiving came and went and I wrote a letter essentially detailing the problem and asking them to either finish the job or declare that they would not finish it so that I could hire somebody else. About a week later a crew showed up at 4:20 in the afternoon, put up a ladder and started cleaning out the debris from the gutters but they declared that they didn't have the tools they needed and they left. Again they were supposed to come back on Monday, followed by more no shows, explanations, rescheduling and no-shows. We are now at December 13 and the gutters still have no gutter guards, and one section has a gutter lying on the ground, uninstalled. The gutters have debris in them. I have no clue when they are coming to finish, or indeed, if they are. I certainly believe that John McClung Roofing is as perfectly capable of timely and professionally installing gutters as they are of doing a great roofing job on a difficult roof, but as of today I don't have the job complete, there is no date scheduled for the job to be completed, and this gutter situation is a complete fail, beyond the fact that there are some unprotected, debris-filled gutters on most of the house. I've been patient and cooperative. I put my concerns in writing, so none of this should come as a surprise to the folks at John McClung, but all to little avail. Perhaps tomorrow I'll be pleasantly surprised and this will all be a bad memory, but right now I'm feeling pretty disappointed.

Project took a long time to start as they are very busy. So about 2 month wait after committing. Took 4 days. They did a nice job. They recycle the old shingles by taking them to a place that makes them into asphalt for roads. I installed two sun tunnels to try to brighten up the house during the day, I would have preferred that someone would point out to me that the location of the top outlet affects how bright the light is coming through, so one is bright and one not so much as I put the outlets as high on the roof as possible not realizing. They used a magnet to find the dropped screws. They were punctual and polite. The roof is awesome and I am excited for it to rain. I used the color aged copper, so it is a light green color.

Russel at John McClung was great to work with. He gave us an estimate and was right on with it, we were not surprised by any extra charges in the end, he didn't go over it by even a penny. What a relief, we had heard and read of horror stories of surprise charges that people have encountered with roofing jobs. We have a 1930s house so we didn't know what they would find once they started the tear off but they took care of everything and stayed on target with the estimate. We were scheduled to start on a Thursday but they called and were able to start a day early, which was great. The crew came in and went right to work and got the job done in a few days, exactly what we were told at the time of the estimate. Re-roofing is a messy and they did a great clean up job, we have not found a single nail. There were a few places on the house that had some black marks but they took care of that right away. The office staff was very friendly and helpful the couple of times I needed to call. Our house looks so super cute! I highly recommend John Mc Clung and their crew. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again but I sure hope I don't need a roofer for a very long time. I'm glad they have a lifetime guarantee!

Our home inspection revealed a couple of places where there seemed to be water and decay issues with the roof. Our real estate agent recommended John McClung and they were our first call after closing. We dealt with Herbie and he was prompt and easy to work with. He was very thorough in inspecting the suspected damage and explained everything to my husband. After inspecting the property, he recommended that we not take any action at this time. Wow! It's rare that you find someone who places doing the right thing over making the sale. We are very impressed with the integrity and professionalism of Herbie and the company. We are very thankful for such a great experience as first time homeowners. John McClung Roofing will now be our first and only call for any roofing needs that arise in the future.

I called three roofing companies. One was too busy. The second one came and said would email estimate next day. Not heard from again even though I phoned. John McClung responded immediately and did the job on time and professionally. I would trust them to do any roofing job.

Great process, start to finish. Jesse was our coordinator: John Paul our project foreman. Both men extremely polite and professional. Everyone shows up when they say and the project was done on time. The only B here is because sometimes it takes an extra call to Jesse. We feel this really isn't his fault: he's tremendously busy this time of year, his phone never stops ringing. Just know to give a reminder here and there... he WILL get back to you. Great communication from everyone once the project was started. If you have a special question and email John McClung, he'll get back to you the same day, if not the same hour. Extra Praise: We had skylights installed at the same time, so the inside work had to be coordinated with the outside job. McClung's crew was very good about working with, and around, the interior contractor. We threw a couple of curveballs and they responded well. Always courteous, adjusting things when necessary. We were impressed. Two thirds of the roof was on when rain started to move in. The crew worked until 9pm to finish what needed to be done. Then someone came back and worked until 10pm, making sure everything was tacked down and the tarp was on well. Jesse called the next morning to make sure we were dry on the inside. Nice touch. McClung's uses Rhino something-or-other instead of regular felt (tarpaper). Do your research: it's better. We asked our other estimates if they'd use it and were told the price would go up. McClung came in right where our other 4 estimates did and they only use Rhino. We think it's worth mentioning that we got our estimate in April and, due to this and that, didn't go through with the project until August. Jesse picked right up where we left off, and McClung's honored the price quote 4 months later. They also moved us up, since we had an obvious leak by this time. Thanks, Jesse. Bottom Line: Great company, great crew, great product. We're happy!

Herbie took his time and looked at all the possible sources of the leak, including crawling into my attic. He diagnosed the problem as being with the rock chimney. The mortar needs to be replaced. He recommended a person to do the work. Once the mortar as been replaced, he will return and seal the chimney with ClearGuard, giving me a reasonable quote. I am proceeding with the plan he proposed.
