From our first contact with Bill Laity to the end of the work in June, he was a joy to work with. His design ideas reflected my wish list and the final results exceeded my expectations. His entire crew is a true reflection of his personality and work ethic. They communicated well, worked so hard in all kinds of weather and were a joy to have around.

While professional in attitude and bearing and mostly punctual, I can only describe the results as abysmal. Out of some 60+ plantings, at least 50% died. They were given assiduous treatment just as he required, for the first three years. He did replace some of the plants along the driveway, but to no avail. After the extremely poor results, we simply gave up. It was simply not worth the effort to call him again. The rocks for the fountain, however were well done. I waited this long to review in the unfounded hope that there may be more positive results. I would NOT recommend this firm to anyone.

Lawn repeatedly failed in spite of our watering efforts, plus employees coming out 4-5 additional times to reseed. Employees used very little straw to cover, very little grass seed in many areas. We had to go back out and cover better with more straw. Several plants died, were replaced and many again died. Never had this kind of problem with the 4 other landscapers we have used. Grading was poor, we have standing water. Employees laid out design for the pergola, fire pit and sitting area and poured concrete where the pillars would be. Concrete was poured too high, distance from back pillars to beds is not even, and the pergola itself then is not centered straight out from the basement doors. Flagstone patio was the worst. Employees were out 5 times to remedy the situation. They obviously didn't know what they were doing. There were raised trip hazards that had to be repaired. The grouting was very poorly done. There were different consistencies due to improper mixing and storing. Some so soft you could sweep it out. Some hosed out. The few places that were hard and had to be ground out creating a fine dust that coated our newly, professionally cleaned windows, coated the screens on our screen porch and the floor and rug. It would not hose off and everything had to be scrubbed. We did the clean-up ourselves. The grout is a consistent color now but only time will tell if it is durable. It is inconsistently installed at varying depth. Very disappointing. . It was obvious to us that the workers were people that had limited skills and knowledge. The owner would occasionally show up briefly but never really supervised the work. When he finally came out after the fourth attempt to fix the patio he said he would come out himself with one of his workers and complete the job. This never happened. Seemed he wanted to avoid us. Only sent out an employee to take his place whom he stated knew how to do this work. After the last effort to repair the grouting (there were many) the worker left his dust mess and the owner never returned nor called to see if we were satisfied. We will now renovate the lawn ourselves and replace the dead plants in the spring. The pergola area is what it is.
Description of Work: Met owner in fall of 2014. He stated he was too busy to design the work for us so we hired another individual to help us with our design. Actual work began then in May of 2015 and was completed in November 2016. So this has been a two year ordeal. Minor grading Layed out design and poured concrete for pergola foundation (Integrated Landscape could not build and install the pergola so another contractor was hired for this feature), fire pit, and sitting area Install lawn, beds, mulch, plants and boulders Install flagstone patio

The rescheduled appointment went well, the vendor was knowledgeable and took time to listen to my concerns and ideas and to provide feedback.
Description of Work: I waited 3 weeks for an appointment, had it cancelled the day of the appointment and be told that they would not reschedule because they were too busy. However, I did eventually get a call back to reschedule along with an apology and a rescheduled appointment. The appointment went well and I am waiting for an estimate.

Dear (Member name removed), We extend you our sincerest apology for our last-minute cancellation of your appointment last week and for not offering a rescheduled appointment at the time of the cancellation. When Bill had his medical emergency on the day of your appointment we were panicked by the emergency and overwhelmed by how far out his appointments were booked. It was a mistake for us to not offer you an appointment or at least let you know we would get back in touch with you as soon as possible. Please accept our apology for our poor handling of that. And thank you so much for our recent re-scheduled appointment. It was a pleasure meeting with you and discussing your projects.

William was good about getting back to us and spent a lot of time measuring our slope and explaining exactly what would need to be done to solve our drainage problem. We get a few lakes in the back yard when it rains, and water in the crawlspace. We also have a very flat lot and several other landscape companies were not sure how to fix our problem due to the flat land. Bill did all the math and showed us how it would work, and assured us that his plan would work for years to come. We followed his guidelines, and also hired a person to dig the trench with a tractor since that was going to be too hard for us. His name was Robert and he was recommended by Bill, and he did an amazing job. Since the installation, we have had zero water in the crawlspace for the first time since we moved in. Even with all the very heavy downpours we've had this year, there is no water in the crawlspace. The lakes in the back yard disappear after a few hours of rain. We are very pleased with the work and information and would recommend William Laity and also Robert to anyone. He does seem a bit pricey, which is why we opted to do it ourselves. But you get a very high quality and reliable outcome from that price.
Description of Work: Bill came out to measure and write up a plan for a French drain system in our backyard. We paid him to make up the plan and then we were going to do all the installation ourselves.

This is the third time that I have used Bill Laity and his landscaping crew, and as usual I am totally satisfied. Bill is professional. knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and creative. He listens to your ideas, and then makes suggestions for changes/improvements. He is prompt to supply his proposal and pricing, and is open to changes as things progress. He is on the job site as the work begins, and shows up again as things take shape. His crews are reliable and friendly, and I have never had a complaint with their work. His office staff is friendly and very helpful. I moved to Asheville a year ago. However, I purchased property in the area ahead of time, and Bill did the basics for me, starting 5 years ago. Being recently retired, my budget has been my concern. Bill was very open to re-doing my yard in stages, letting the scene (and my finances) be flexible. Twice in the past we coordinated my landscaping jobs with me living in California. Communications were smooth, and all went well. However, it was a lot easier and a lot more fun working with Bill face-to-face this past year! No matter how small the job task, he has always made me feel that my business is important to him. And his actions and results prove that to be true.

Very responsive, hands on company owner. He was easy to talk to and accomodating to changes we made to the original plan. He was able to incorporate old granite pavers that came with the house, in addition to providing additional new concrete pavers. We got all that we asked for and a beautiful end result! WOuld highly recommend this hardscaping company.
Description of Work: We had a hardscape patio, meandering paver walkway and large stepping stones placed in the backyard. Several limitations were noted ahead of time, including our desire that finished paver patio and walkway be placed in such a way that we could add vegetable gardens. Also asked that he use old granite pavers to outline hardscape; old granite pavers were >100yrs old and had originally been cobblestone street pavers.

As I stated in the previous paragraph, Laity's crew on always on time, they clean up after themselves, they are trustworthy and decent. The projects went beautifully and we are very pleased with the outcome. We recommend Bill Laity without reservation. He always oversees his projects carefully, and there is no carelessness involved.
Description of Work: This is the second time we have had to rely on Bill Laity and his excellent crew for serious water drainage and remediation problems. We had a landslide, about the width of a car length--- that went 60 feet or more down our mountain. We also had water run off from our driveway. In addition, about 200 pounds of sand and clay, with rocks, eroded from the cutbank in back of our cabin. Bill gave me information on how to remediate the cut bank. He also did repair work on the ground below the cut bank. His crew laid in a trench to take care of the water run off from the driveway, which he diagnosed as being a contributing factor to the landslide. I think Laity is probably the ONLY person in this area who can handle problems of greater magnitude. He has repaired much larger landslides. The crew put in locust or hickory (it's the hardest wood) posts with rebar and cradles of rock and rip rap which will allow the water than comes from natural springs inside the earth to run down the hillside without causing further erosion. He also mulched the entire project. When possible he uses materials we have on hand. He is not cheap; his prices are somewhat costly, but the costs are well worth it, because he knows how to solve problems. He is honorable, responsible, dependable. I cannot recommend him more highly. He is extremely intelligent and a cut above similar kinds of contractors.

Mr. Laity responded to my internet inquiry promptly, was pleasant and informative when visiting to make an estimate, and followed up quickly with a written estimate. Part of my motivation for calling him was to learn about apparent problems with the retaining wall and to get a sense of how quickly I needed to act on repair. Mr. Laity helped me to understand the problem and to prioritize the solution. (Plenty of other home repair projects to worry about!) Ultimately, I chose not to prioritize the retaining wall repair and thus have not yet had the work executed, but I would not hesitate to return to this company for service.

The work that was done completely changed and upgraded the appearance and function of the house. We could not be happier with the work. It was done artfully and professionally. I would recommend Bill Laity with high confidence for any landscaping needs.
Description of Work: Drainage and erosion issues were repaired. All rotten landscaping wood and rails were replaced. Rotten timbers were replaced with stone borders and old plants were removed and replaced with more appropriate plants for the location. Retaining wall was rebuilt. Improved the function of the culvert drainage. A large part of the yard was regraded and soil was brought in to fill sunken areas and reseeded.

The team came in and spent several days excavating. They installed a french drain pipe, which was covered with material and then gravel, and then cut under the deck to run the pipe lower down the mountain. They brought in a different colored gravel at my request. HIs price seemed expensive, but I had interviewed a couple of other people, none of whom seemed capable of such a large job, and I believe no one could have done better work. Bill is really smart and has the engineering knowledge to complete all kinds of work. He is exceptional in that one doesn't often find such highly qualified and gifted people in his line of business.
Description of Work: Bill's team dug into the surrounding rock bed and clay to install a 60 foot french drain in the back of our cabin, which drains the runoff from the mountain. It was a major undertaking, with serious excavation of the rock and clay soil and rockbed. Bill and his team were good natured, highly qualified, friendly, decent and extremely helpful. I will hire him again and would recommend him to anyone. He has a real work ethic, returns phone calls, is professional, and polite, as well as highly intelligent. His team, as well, is above par, with the same sense of decency and integrity. He is a relief to discover and to deal with. He has my highest recommendation. He leaves the job site in good shape and will come back if he sees something that hasn't been done or covered.
Overall, everything went without a hitch. When planning spring work the weather can be challenging. No fault of the contractors, but good to keep in mind.
Description of Work: We began working with Bill Laity in early spring 2011 on a landscape design for our new home. Bill provides great attention to detail, is knowledgeable, flexible, and not pretentious. We spoke with several landscapers in the area and Bill's demeanor, expertise and landscaping were a cut above while his prices were affordable. Bill solved the drainage issue behind our house. We now have a beautiful retaining wall and dry grass to walk on! His team was punctual, friendly, and left a clean work area at the end of the day which I greatly appreciated. He is also quite flexible in planning. We started out with one design and have revised it along the way. Bill really wants you to be happy with the end result and understands how after you've lived in a house for awhile your landscaping ideas evolve. In addition, Bill and his team worked great with our stamp concrete folks from Cane Creek Concrete. We had two major hardscaping projects - drainage and a stone retaining wall and fire pit, and a stamped concrete entrance walkway, patio and patio area around the fire pit. Bill did a great job of organizing this as one project, which we needed. All plantings are guaranteed so long as you water them (which of course makes sense). We've had two Leland Cypress Trees fail to thrive (one in 2011 and one now). Bill has upheld the guarantee without a fuss. We're looking forward to working with Bill for the next stage of our landscaping in 2013.

The project went extremely well. A few plants were not available at the time of the project, so spots were marked in the yard with flags and the crew will return in a couple weeks to plant them. Other than that, everything was completed in a very timely manner. We could not be more pleased with the professionalism, work, and end result. I rated price a "A" because it was in line with other estimates we got. It was totally fair and reasonable but in addition, we were given a 10% discount for hiring the crew during a slow season (February 2012). March 7, 2014. The waterfalls lose water when running and have for many months now. I paid them to come fix it, but they were only able to slow the rate and charged me $100. The paving stones used for the patio and walk have c racked and flaked away - on some cases rather large chips have come off. It still looks good, but I have to wonder how long they will last. Plants put in front of the house grew way to big and blocked our bay windows. I would have expected that plants in front of windows would have been ones that don't grow 4 or 5 feet tall. I cut these way back and will see if they survive. I may remove them and put in lower profile plants. I lowered the quality from A to B because of these issues but stand by all the other ratings.
Description of Work: Using contractors who specialized in various parts of the landscaping, we had plants added to all 4 sides of our home, two trees planted (cherry and dogwood), a paver path to the back and wood chip paths in 2 other places, a 20 x 30 patio of pavers , a 3 tier waterfall with approximate 4 x 6 pond, and mulch throughout the project. Bill Laity met with us twice before the project started and provided a very detailed and comprehensive estimate including a sketch of the proposal. He listed to us carefully and shaped everything to our desires. He came to the project nearly every day to check on progress and make suggestions or changes where needed. Bill also set us up with an electrician to install flood lights and inside switches for outdoor lighting. That went very, well, too. The workers who laid and cut stone, planted a variety of perennials and trees and bushes, carted stone for the water feature and created the falls and pond, and performed other tasks checked in with us frequently to assure they were doing exactly as we wanted. The end result pleases us so much that we will hire Bill Laity again in a year for a second phase project of paths through our woods with resting areas.

I found Bill through his website, and I think it was one of the best phone calls I have ever made. We discovered a very significant water problem in our crawl space, caused by a complete lack of drainage in the back yard. I had spoken with a couple of other contractors about the job before I met with Bill. One contractor was absurdly high and the other very low. When we were able to meet with Bill, I was very impressed with his thoroughness and thoughtfulness when we were discussing our project. We were able to talk through all aspects of the project, and the plans changed as we talked and thought of different issues. He was very knowledgable and we had complete confidence that he really understood the issues and what needed to be dealt with. He was very upfront and candid with us about the cost of all the individual components of the job, and was making suggestions about how we could save money by doing the non-technical things to prepare for the project ourselves. As the project started, I was very impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of his crew. They were always willing to answer questions and didn't hesitate to call Bill if there was anything I wanted to discuss. Bill was always very prompt to answer any questions we had, either by phone or email. He addressed every question or idea and took whatever time was needed to make sure we understood the plan and were confident in what was going on. There were problems that we ran into along the way, of course, and they were dealt with quickly and with a very minimal amount of stress. When the problems extended into other areas (like the leak they uncovered in our main water line), Bill kept us informed of what was going on, but also took care of the problem himself by calling other professionals that were needed. The work that was done was clean and efficient, and when the french drain was complete, a second crew very efficiently cleared out a disaster of an overgrown terraced yard and mulched everything. The change was amazing and we couldn't be more pleased with the work they did. We will be calling Bill again in the spring to complete the landscaping and probably more. The total cost was broken down and in writing, with no surprises. The price was very fair for the quality of work, and while it was by no means the cheapest quote we received, I am confident that every cent we paid was worth the quality.
Description of Work: A 120 foot french drain was installed, followed by clearing and mulching the entire yard.

They were very good in it. The owner is very meticulous in describing what he does. He draws up a clear written contract, that this will be covered, so that you can go into it to know what’s going to happen, know what the time frame is and he keeps a close watch on his crew. He crew has all been with him for a number of years and work very well together, keeping good communication. They also did some brick paving work in the garage, which they completed within the 4 day period. Considering the fact, that most of the people I called, didn’t get back to me or showed up and advised to be there, but I found his work reasonable. I will call them back, in future.

He's great. He's very knowledgeable and reasonable price wise. We have gone through a couple of landscapers and he's worked out the best for us. His prices are fair and reasonable. He doesn't hire illegal immigrants so he pays people a living wage so he isn't necessarily the lowest. We still use him and would absolutely hire him again.
