David called before arriving, he was on time and courteous. He installed a ceiling fan in two hours and charged a very fair fee. We talked some, and it is clear that he is honest and a fair business man. I personally have a business on Angie's List and value someone that can be trusted. David and General Electrical Contracting is by far a Grade A! Business. Thank you David

It did NOT go at all. We called GEC and discussed with Brianna our need for an electrician to handle the services requested. We explained we were in the middle of a kitchen remodel and needed this service between Aug. 24-26 when the walls would be ripped out and wiring exposed for the requested services. She gave us an appointment for Aug. 25 between 9-10 a.m. We made it very clear we needed an electrician to complete the work requested as we were in the middle of a kitchen remodel with exposed electrical wiring and switch boxes and no electrical power. She assured us GEC could handle all we required. At 9:45 on Aug. 25, the electrician called to say he was ill and could not come. We explained it was critical to have an electrician before the end of the week. He said that was not possible. No options were offered and we had no choice but to suspend our renovation until we can find an electrician to make the necessary electrical changes before we complete the wall and cabinet installations in our kitchen. David, the ill electrician, further explained that he was only coming by to give us a quote on GEC services...THIS IS NOT WHAT WE ORDERED. We requested FULL SERVICE on the work needed, NOT A QUOTE as he says he was told. The word "quote" was never even used in our booking conversation with GEC. We requested and expected an electrician to arrive and provide the work required. Additionally, as a reputable company listed with Angie's, we feel GEC should have notified us either the evening before or earlier than 15 minutes before we were expecting them the day of service. This is our FIRST use of Angie's List and may well be our last. We do NOT find Angie's List beneficial and at this point regret joining.

Response from General Electrical Contracting
As a company policy we always schedule an estimate before begining work to assure our clients are fully aware of what to expect when the work is completed, and there are no surprises with pricing. Also we must compile a list of required materials and labor times ect before a job of this nature can be started, so wprk can be preformed efficently and cost effectively. We sincerely appoligise if this misunderatanding of the way we conduct business with jobs of this nature caused any undue delays to the project, its all in the name of transparency and ensuring clients know what to expect when the bill arrives and receive work completed exactly to client expectations.

Bought $75 Angie List deal for ceiling fan installation. Played telephone tag for a while (he always returned my calls) and set up an appointment. Was delayed in arrival because of an extended earlier job. He called me to ensure that this was OK (which it was). Put a drop cloth over our hardwood floors below where work was to be done. Our ceiling was 12 feet so he needed long ladder which he had and used. He removed the old fan and neatly packed it into a box. He assembled the new fan and installed it. New fan had different switch control which was flawlessly installed. He removed has ladder and drop cloth. Everything was neat and clean.

It worked out very well. They scheduled the appointment and showed up for the job. Everything was fine. After the big deal was purchased, they came out after several weeks to do the work but it was under my request because I wasn't quite ready to do it. There were no additional costs. I liked the price that they gave me and that they followed up. I have no dislikes.

Stress is to have a bed and breakfast and on Friday when the ceiling fan in a room dies. In bed and breakfast land, I do not know why, everything has a penchant to die on Friday. With a 2 hour window left before the first of the guests are expected to arrive...Fan dies. Ok, off to Lowe's we go. Find simply beautiful fan. Husband scurries home to install the fan to avert unhappy guest. He has done fan installation many times. Voila....fan spinning with grace. All's right with the modern world as a cool guest in July is a happy guest. Alas, a problem. Happiness ceiling fan has dark bulbs. Not a working light in sight. Flipping on and off of switch renders continued dark. Husband sends out alert to hunt down Angie's List for electrician as he cannot for the life of him get lights to come on. I make Emergency alert call to General Electrical Contracting without a grain of hope that in the remaining moments before guests arrive i will score service on a Friday. David Gross to the rescue. Springs into action with the mere replacement of "a faulty switch." Not only will I now have cool and content guests but husband has been vindicated in his continuing supremacy of "fan installer." A win-win for sure. On a side note, David Gross is a neat electrician. Debris not scattered about with this fellow. Neat and tidy he is. Thank you David. David is also on "on time" electrician even when basically provided with zip notice. Thank you all so much. Weekend saved. We'll certainly call again should we need an electrician. Our sincere thanks!

The service was excellent. The technician called prior to the appointment to insure that everything about their service was fully understood. I was interested in teplacing an existing ceiling fan with a new remote controlled fan. He fully explained what type fan I needed to purchase to be able to do this. On the appointment date he arrived at the scheduled time and did an excellent job removing the old fan and installing the new one. He was very cordial and professional. He carried away the old fan and left the room neat and clean. I had a number of smoke detectors that needed to have the batteries replaced. They are on the ceiling and I have balsnce problems when climbing a ladder to replace them. He offered to do them for me. When I asked him what I owed him for that work he said it was his pleasure and I owed him nothing. I insisted that he take $20 which he did. I highly recommend this company.

We had him install a motion light outside, at first the motion light that would not come on when spotting small objects, only large; and then it stopped working altogether. We ended up calling him back out and he ended up having to get another light to install. We also had flourescent lighting that was not working. After he fixed them a bit later a few of them also went out. We had to contact him again to come out and fix them. The project ended up costing me more than we thought it originally would.

We were called to troubleshoot a malfunctioning motion detector flood light, and to repair a few florescent fixtures in basement that flashed and took a long time to turn on. Customer specified the specific flood light fixture that he wanted to replace the non functioning unit (both low quality Lowe's fixtures around $25). The new unit functioned properly when we left. Also replaced several ballasts for fixtures in basement. A few weeks later home owner informed me that the flood light did not detect his cat coming onto the porch, i suggested a quality fixture, which he had me install. Also the florescent fixtures that were not functioning properly were units that we did not repair, after replacing the ballasts in the remaining units they all functioned properly.

Thank you very much for your review, we value your opinion. We are pleased to hear that you were satisfied with the work we completed, our clients satisfaction, and your happiness is of the highest importance to us. We are sorry to hear that you were surprised by your bill. Let me explain why the bill was a little higher than you may have expected. We are located in Asheville NC and we had to travel about 40-45 mins to your location. We were originally called for a simple service call (to repair a few switches). We repaired the four way switch that was defective, and then left the first house and followed you to another property to troubleshoot a defective switch in a ceiling fan. Upon further inspection of the fan, we determined that the fan had a defective motor. The fan was installed in the entry room of the house and there were two of them in line, the other of which was working properly. You specified that you and your wife would have to wait until later in the week to go to Lowe's and shop for new fans so we left, to return when you purchased the fan. A few days later you had the fans purchased, and we set up a time to come back out and install two of them (so they would match). We had another 40-45 minute trip to your location. Upon removing the fans, we noticed that the boxes were very loose and needed to be secured better. After both new fans were installed you mentioned that you wanted the working old fan relocated to the bed room where no fan was previously located. After covering the furniture in the bed room and removing the old fixture the box also had to be secured. The fan was installed and we left the premise and sent you an invoice via e-mail. I believe what made you feel surprised by the bill (from our subsequent email conversations) was the fact that the time you had calculated did not include the travel time. We always suggest that people get several quotes for their jobs. When we received the initial call, to replace a couple switches (very small quick job usually less than an hour) an estimate was not requested. In any event an estimate would not have been very accurate as the job had several additions after we had started (changed from replacing a bad switch to replacing the fans, then added installing one of the old fans in a new location). I hope this clears up any confusion or misunderstanding about the total of your bill. We value our clients satisfaction, and your happiness is of the highest importance to us. If you have any further concerns or questions please don't hesitate to call me personally at 828-989-6604. We would also like to offer you 10% off any future service for the misunderstanding. Thank you again for your business. David Gross General Electrical Contracting
